The hotel is beautiful & in a great location, but the walls are so "thin" that loud/excited talking from a neighboring room woke me up as I write this at 2:47 AM. It's as if the other people are in MY hotel room. It's been like this for my 2 night stay and they're not even being loud loud, it's just that there's nothing to insulate against sound. I hear the cars, emergency vehicles, loud freeway noise as if it's right next to me IN my room. That's what woke me up the first night. Bring earplugs if you stay in a room like mine. Staff I interacted with weren't very hospitable for working in the hospitality industry, but I figure, maybe it's just b/c it's like we're in one big open room, or maybe they also have earplugs in and just didn't or couldn't hear my comments/questions. I don't know. This place would wear on me after a few days, too. Some other positives: Bed was comfortable, toiletries scented with neroli are very nice. Shower worked. Major negative: you hear EVERYTHING.

Yelp, I'm officially asking you to allow us to leave ZERO stars. Now for my review...online this hotel looks amazing! Even in person it's ascetically pleasing. But one you settle in you'll soon notice it's all a facade. From phones that don't work, to broken blinds, to a leaking shower, to blown fuses that take out the power in the bathroom and rough towels with the hair of previous guests, just disappointing. Every time I left the hotel and came back I noticed the lobby smelled like gas which was a little concerning. My room smelled like velveeta shells and cheese on the second day. I was really hoping to refer this hotel to future clients traveling to Houston area but I would never. So let's see, since I have to give one star, what I can say for that....great location.

Disappointed they are not what they use to be

Well, Houston is home and I'm in town for business. Let me say this used to be one of the class is most well respected hotels in Houston. I booked my reservations here, hoping to be close to the galleria, and upon my initial check-in I was definitely disappointed this hotel is not what it used to be! Let's get into it! So let's get started we all know that early check-in is never guaranteed at any specific hotel , however, on this particular day, I had been up for more than 24 hours I had just landed in arrive to the hotel around 11:30am. I had requested an early check in and was met with people lounging all over the furniture in the lobby, because everyone was waiting for a room. There was no specific details, but it was clear that it was going to be after 3 PM before we could even begin to move on the waitlist and I was number 34! I will say the front desk attendant was very kind and receptive. I was frustrated. I was extremely exhausted and she managed to get me pushed up a little bit early. With that being said, when I checked into the room, I was disappointed to see the poor condition that the room was in as you can see in the photos Wallpaper was torn. The desk was clearly dirty. There was still hair on the bathroom sink, and I also could not get the air conditioning turned off as it was set on 60 in the heat would not come on. I was desperate to lay down and get some sleep maintenance. Did arrive about 30 minutes later and got things fixed but it's just a very frustrating check in. It's disappointing when you come to a hotel of this caliber and they don't even have a comforter on the bed just a blanket in the closet . The pillows were hard and uncomfortable. The room filled have cleaned and it just wasn't a very pleasing aesthetic. Breakfast is included went down for breakfast the next morning, and it is served in a Buffay style . Everything on the Buffay was cold the potatoes were cold. The bacon was greasy and cold. The eggs were over scrambled in the toast sitting in the warmer was anything but warm. again, I have thrown many events at this hotel, and the wear and tear and lack of details is very apparent . Well, their prices are still very reasonable. I could not in good faith recommend this hotel to anyone and management should take a really hard look at the aesthetics of the room and the quality of the amenities being offered. If I could have canceled my reservation and moved to another hotel, I would have definitely chosen another location especially being here for business. This is not a comfortable stay.

Ugh, didn't want to leave the 1 star. DO NOT STAY HERE, IT IS NOT UPSCALE. First of all, I chose to self park. You have to walk on the streets and pass a public bus stop to get into the hotel if you self park without a hotel key. I booked the PENTHOUSE suite for a valentine's staycation. Check in is at 4pm, which is late enough. Tell me why the room wasn't ready?! The front desk told me 30 mins.... An hour later and they couldn't find housekeeping and I'm still in the lobby with luggage. Naturally, I asked for late checkout bc the room wasn't ready on time. The front desk told me I'd have to ask in the morning, it's not guaranteed. For the price I'm paying, y'all need to do something. I only wanted to get into a room and change for my dinner reservations. I asked about this package that included late checkout, cupcakes and champagne for $65 that was in my confirmation email. I was told I had to book that in advance. An hour and fifteen minutes later, I asked to cancel my reservation. I saw all walks of life checking in during this time. Sketchy looking folks piling in with pajamas and no hair combed. Nobody looking like we're at an upscale boutique hotel. I'm clutching my luggage at this point. Front desk workers are by no means helpful. By no means man. Sitting up there trying to call housekeeping for 20 minutes... girl get up and go find somebody!! Do you know the nightly rate of the penthouse suite?! Let me speak to Derek himself bc this ain't it. I got up out of there and ran for my life. No organization, no customer service, no security. You can save a ton of money by switching to another hotel lol I chose a Hilton property instead for the weekend with no issues. Hotel Derek wasn't trendy, nor upscale. Never again for me. My reservation number was 57076SE249668 and i better not see Derek's name on my statement.

As a hotel snob, I expect the best when a hotel boasts they're the best. This one fell a bit short. The rooms are fun, but could use some updating. The doors are scraped up and need to be stripped and repainted. The shower needs to be re caulked. The bathroom has rust in the ceiling, the furniture is dated. Art work isn't hanging up, instead it's sitting in the hallways. We had neighbors last night who were obnoxiously loud beginning around 4 am-the woman was either having the absolute best sex of her life or she was simply acting like it. We heard bodies slapping, banging on the wall, and a woman screaming and moaning over the course of two hours.

Looks very random of stuff that was placed there ??? I know it is suppose to be the "free coffee"

Wish I could leave 1/2 star or no star!!! This is not a good place to stay! Room we stayed in I very below standard! Not worth the money we spent. Everything in the room is outdated. See pics below. We only even stayed one horrible night. And we went to the parking garage people were smoking pot....dont get me wrong I am ok with it but why not in the privacy of your own home anyways....when we went to leave the pic below will show you what we arrived to!!!!! SERIOUSLY PEOPLE SHOW SOME CONSIDERATION!!!!

This hotel looks nice from outside but rooms are dated. Shower didn't work well. Doors didn't close well. The bar was nice. Watch your charges!!! I stayed a night. The bartender was nice. I didn't use the pool or have breakfast. There were some decent places to walk to. I also didn't have a vehicle and I am glad. If I go back to Houston I would stay elsewhere!

Everything closes at 10pm, but they won't tell you that until you check in. Good luck getting any help for anything after that...

I needed a local getaway for major self-care. I chose the Hotel Derek because of its proximity to 610 and the galleria area. It is conveniently located on Westheimer road. Self and valet parking available. Good customer service. Comfortable rooms, beds and pillows. Excellent stay so far.

Table next to bed not cleaned with some residue on it.

First off I think I have over 100+ stays over at this hotel since 2018 but have not been in the last 4 years since Covid. Upon arrival to check in, I was met with the most rude employee. I told him the front desk employees that I did not pay for the room and he was still trying to charge me for the room . After I showed him multiple times he finally just asked for a credit card for incidentals with a severe attitude. I had to confront him about this because it struck me off guard and asked him why he was giving me an attitude for no apparent reason. All I said was I did not pay for the room lol During this period he belched three times and sucked his teeth. Definitely not hospitality in anyway. Figuring that this hotel has such low standards at the front as the face of their business, I decided to do a check of the room where it is absolutely disgusting. Sadly it matched the level of care at the front desk. There are Bodily secretions that are showing up with my UV light all around the bed frame, ( see pics below) stains on the sheets, as well as residue on all the surfaces. The only place that looks decent is the bathroom, Nothing came up with the UV light. I'm saddened by this because This was one of my favorite hotels in Houston. They have lost all hospitality at the front and cleanliness is at a zero. I highly recommend you go with a bigger chain that has more standards and more accountability for their employees.

Why do I always forget to check Yelp before I book a hotel? Lol rookie mistake!! This place isn't bad. But for the price and all the hype that I read about it online?! I was expecting so much more :/ it's pretty old/dirty looking unfortunately - our bathroom in particular was lookin rough...yikes. I'll do a little more research next time we're in Houston :)

Our standard room was excellent with a large shower and a bed that was beyond comfortable. We were overlooking the pool area, and it looked mighty inviting, maybe next time. We loved seeing all the old movie posters and unique décor in the lobby and conference rooms. Even the restrooms have themes! While I understand mistakes happen, what was completely unacceptable was the way the situation was handled afterward. When I called the front desk for help, I was met with rudeness, attitude, and skepticism, as though I was making the situation up. The front desk manager was dismissive and unhelpful, despite the fact that I even offered to personally look through the dirty linens to find my clothing. Two days later, the hotel finally called to say they had found my shirt, only to then ask me to pay for the shipping label to have it returned. No apology. No accountability. No acknowledgment that I was left scrambling and forced to borrow clothes from others in order to attend my event because of their mistake. To make matters worse, the concierge kindly assured me that his manager, Daisy Lopez, would be reaching out to address the situation. Despite following up twice, I never heard another word from the hotel. The issue was never the mistake itself, accidents happen. The issue was the complete lack of professionalism, empathy, accountability, and customer care afterward. For a hotel that prides itself on luxury and reputation, this experience was an absolute disappointment.

Not once did we feel uneasy (and we live in the Houston area - did a staycation for my husband's birthday). A few years ago, it would be a different story. There are a few homeless in the general area, but they aren't disruptive. We stayed in room 705, complete with a city view. It was quiet and lovely. I wish the rooms had a full-size fridge and cooking area, but for downtown, the suites are just as big as a studio apartment. There's space-themed decor throughout the hotel. I found the valet pricing to be a bit steep, and unfortunately, I have reason to believe two pairs of sunglasses were stolen from my vehicle. (I realize they should have been put in my purse immediately after use, but it slipped my mind, and out of habit, I put them in the console.) Regardless, it's frustrating. It also took 10-15 minutes for valet to pull our car around, so that's something to keep in mind. The evening reception was nice, especially with the two drinks/person/night. We had chips and queso, though they had a few other offerings. Make sure you get the card at the front desk. The front desk staff will also try to sell you on destinations for a cheap rate. I'm not sure when this became a thing, but instead of telling us about the evening reception and breakfast, they tried selling us on a stay in Chicago. I really just wanted to go to our room since I did everything on the app. We also found the breakfast to be worth every penny to stay in this hotel. I can't have gluten, and there isn't any GF bread. I had eggs, potatoes, grits, and coffee. There were cereal, fruit, yogurt, and waffle-making options as well. I appreciated the coffee bar having various syrups. The hotel was extremely accessible for those with disabilities/handicaps. We saw several people in wheelchairs or with assistance. Hearsay on the Green is inside the hotel, and the food is priced well for what you get (and it's excellent). If you DoorDash, the Dasher has to leave your food/items at the front desk. They are not permitted to go up to guest rooms. The rooftop pool and hot tub offer views of the city and Toyota Center (excellent people watching). Overall, I'd stay again (but I'd ensure I brought my cheap sunglasses and not my Maui Jims).

And while the whole experience will hit your wallet, it is worth it. Let's face it, you're staying here because of either the convenience of the lovely restaurants connected to the hotel or because of the rooftop pool with the Texas-shaped lazy river. Fortunately, both of these factors live up to it's promise and glamour. The restaurant options are aplenty; all that connect to the hotel lobby. Prestigious options such as Xochi, Biggio's, and Walker Street Kitchen are all here. Xochi is the only one we visited during out time there and it's well worth the experience (see my review on that). The rooftop pool has several seating/lounge sections along with a full bar/restaurant at the front area. Additionally, there is a hot tub and a pool on the left side where you get a nice view of the Houston skyline and the Texas-shaped lazy river floats around all of these attractions. It's the main reason why you're coming to this hotel in the first place! Other amenities I liked is the very large fancy exercise room and the club area where they serve complimentary breakfast for platinum and titanium members. The breakfast has some delicious items including fresh pastries, charcuterie selections, and the scrambled cheese eggs. And there's a cappuccino machine included if you want something more fancy than coffee. All these things I've listed and I haven't gotten to our room! Well we had a clean king sized bedroom that directly overlooked the rooftop pool giving us a nice view of what we would be engaging in during the afternoon. The room also has a safe in the closet if you want to store any valuables. As I mentioned, it's gonna be pricey staying here with all the perks I listed. But would I do it again? HELL YEAH!

There was a lot of open space in addition to the king bed and the living room area. Even though it was February, it was actually quite warm and humid inside the room. We had recently experienced temperatures in the teens in Dallas, so being in a room with the temperature in the mid 70s, seemed unbearably hot. We had to find the A/C and turn the temperature down a few degrees. The hotel is located near the arts district where we were planning to spend our Saturday. The earliest we could checkin was 3pm, so we spent our day visiting the city and just left our luggage in the car. Checkin was super easy since we already had a reservation. Parking was included. The property has a fence around it, so the parking felt relatively secure. It was also well lit. The spots in the front were mostly taken, but you could drive around to the back of the building and easily find a space. The hotel has an elevator, but it is very slow. We used the stairs quite a bit, but found the elevator useful for carrying our bags upstairs. The view was limited and not very appealing, but the building only has about three floors. Amenities like a pool, gym, and laundry facility were also available at no added charge. The Wifi name and password were printed on the room key to make it easy to connect. Breakfast was included. The breakfast area had several tables. the meal is buffet style. They do have hot items like scrambled eggs, sausage, and breakfast tacos. You can make a waffle or toast bread or a bagel. Cold items like juice, yogurt, cereal are also an option. Two staff members were there making sure food was readily available and that things were kept clean. There were a few items that bothered me about this particular hotel. One, there was no TV reception in my room. I couldn't believe there weren't any channels, not even local channels! I was also annoyed that the bathroom sink was not draining properly. My husband had to play with it to get it to drain at all, and even then, it took a very long time for the water in the sink to empty after washing my hands or brushing my teeth. Lastly, the light switch at the entrance of the room only controlled the lighting in the entryway. I had to go around and turn on individual lights to feel like it wasn't so dark. These were minor inconveniences, but for the price, I would have expected these not to be an issue at all. The staff at the front desk were very pleasant and went out of their way to help me. On the day of our departure, my husband wasn't feeling well. They provided me with some bottled water as well as a Sprite to help his stomach. I was so touched by this offer. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. We both got a good night's sleep.

Also, I made a note that I could not have tuna but they took this as I could not have fish so they gave me two chicken salad sandwiches instead of the salmon even though I had stated on the phone salmon was fine. She also could not describe one of the desserts but overall she was very pleasant. The amuse bouche was - interesting ( a strawberry with cream cheese) I didn't hate or love it. I didn't think the cream cheese added anything tbh. We had one dessert on the table waiting for us before we said down - a English parfait that had a white chocolate mouse, cake, and fruit. I loved it although it was a bit strange to have dessert already sitting at your table before you got your sandwiches but I am a dessert first girl so didn't matter to me other than it was constantly calling my name. You don't get to choose your tea and the two tea options are both black which is a lot of caffeine. The sandwiches themselves come across as unassuming but they are great and very filling. Each one has a different bread which was cool. Although not a fan of cucumber, the bread was milky and so soft. All the sandwiches were fantastic. Honestly, I was so full from the tea and sandwiches, I took the desserts home. One big misstep in service was the server forgetting to serve the second tea. I had to ask for it and by the time we got it, we were tea'ed out. You are gifted a box of macarons at the end - we almost left ours but our server ran and got us in time. I definitely had a great time, there were small incidents that stopped it from being 5 stars.
