All of the staff we encountered at Hotel Zaza were very friendly and welcoming during our two night stay. We especially appreciated the free coffee and tea service offered on each floor of the hotel every morning. This was a nice touch to start the day off strong. The room itself was on the small side and felt like the design and decor might have been little cooler / edgier a decade or so ago. Something about the young girl half nude photography didn't do it for me... We didn't get to experience this firsthand but they offer an on site spa, outdoor pool, and restaurant and bar. The restaurant prices looked a little $$ so we held off. Overall, a positive experience.

Convenient if you wanted that, but I needed space for my leftovers lol - No microwave, can be requested tho - TV has a red light that doesn't turn off at night (???) I was on first floor and you can hear the people walking around upstairs, they supply the room with air plugs. I heard them through my stay of 4 days, but overall it wasn't enough that I wouldn't come back. Great location, clean, comfortable room, and great host. I couldn't get my phone to do the virtual key, so Check-in took a little longer, but host helped me with 20 minutes and I was in. Parking right in front is limited, but was able to find one across the street when it was full. There is also access at the coffee shop, but I never had to use it. Overall if you want a walkable part of town to restaurants, shops, ice cream and more this is a great location.

I arrived around 7 PM and asked for a room for myself. He told me they had a room available and quoted me $75. Then he told me he was going to give me a room with two beds. I didn't ask for a two-bed room. I've paid $60 in person in the past , and online the price is around $55$59. The guy at the front desk told me that the prices are different during the week Monday to Saturday and that weekends are more expensive. I feel this was unfair, especially as someone who has been coming here for years. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back.

From the moment we arrived until the second we left, we were treated like royalty. The heart of this hotel is truly its staff--by the end of our trip, we felt like we had made genuine friendships and truly became part of the hotel family. The flawless service started at the door with Sam, who welcomed us with the most cheerful and polite attitude. At the front desk, Kevin made absolute magic happen. He quickly coordinated with housekeeping to get us into a room for a very early check-in, and he was incredibly personable and fun to visit with. Kevin also rushed to our aid with a first-aid kit when my son had a little fall, showing just how deeply they care about their guests. The incredible service extended everywhere. The bartenders are masters of their craft--extremely knowledgeable and brilliant at making you feel special the second you sit at the bar. We even crossed paths with the owner in the elevator; he went completely out of his way to welcome us and ensure our stay was pleasant. He is such a warm, thoughtful gentleman, and his hospitality clearly sets the standard for the entire hotel. Late one night, the hotel manager performed another absolute miracle--since the rooms feature a sleek, drawer-style fridge, she found a separate place to securely store our three bulky takeout bags from dinner. One of the biggest perks of booking through Amex Travel as a Platinum Card member was the daily breakfast for two (up to $60), a $100 hotel credit that we used towards room service, and other Fine Hotels + Resorts perks like early check in and late checkout. Few things about the hotel: -The lobby is modern and stylish, without feeling too pretentious. It has a great energy whether you're checking in or relaxing at the bar, which is right next to it.. The staff was also welcoming, and the check-in process was easy. -Our room was equally impressive. Gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows that let in plenty of natural light. We were also on the highest floor so it made it that much more captivating. The room felt spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom had that luxury hotel feel with a large shower, and nice finishes. Everything felt clean and well-maintained. -The foods we ordered via room service were all good, especially the salmon dish. -Valet is $60 per night, which is pretty standard for luxury hotels in Houston, but it's something to factor into the overall cost of your stay. I had a prenatal facial done on Friday July 10th. Morgan at the spa front desk charged me for the wrong guests ticket that cost ($330.98) Not only did she charge me incorrectly, she also made me pay for my own service ($287.26). Morgan said she took off the first charge but when I went to the lobby's front desk they had to reprint the correct invoice. We are ammex card holders so they said we should get $60 credit every morning for breakfast, and a $100 credit to use on the property. I am seeing they haven't applied those credits. We had dinner at Chardon for my birthday on July 11th and watched police take out a group of people from the pool area who were upset because they were cut off from drinking. We also saw another couple escorted out of Chardon because they thought the manager was being racist. I don't think that was the case, but it was extremely chaotic at this point. I felt like I was watching a carnival cruise YouTube video. I also had to call in and complain multiple time because our neighbors on our floor were extremely loud and obnoxious. There was security sent up on Friday night for that as well. I never got to enjoy the pool area because each time we tried to go out, there was no space/chairs to sit. I won't be returning to this hotel, at this price point there shouldn't be problems like these.

His quotes precede each 'story': 30 - "The highest state is laughter" Because he often laughed in interviews, he was referred to as the "giggling guru". The top of the building has a tree growing in the same location of the tree signaling the completion of the top floor during construction in 1971 of the Holiday Inn. Maharishi would giggle at that. 29 - "Problems or successes, they all are the results of our own actions. ... Karma." Holiday Inn failed. Bought and renamed Days Inn (1984). Failed. Bought (1992) & renamed by Maharishi, who went through a series of name changes himself. Again, the hotel failed, and new owners renamed it. Some architects now see the main value is the parking garage (Car-ma). 28 - "The Beatles made Maharishi great? Pah!" The Beatles did not find meaning through drugs, and dropped them when they found Maharishi. They travelled to India in 1968 to learn his TM techniques. Suddenly, Maharishi was world renowned, & after success with TM, his picture made the cover of Time magazine. 27 - "Man is born to enjoy" Their relationship abruptly ended when John Lennon was convinced by actress Mia Farrow that Maharishi groped her. When the Maharishi asked why they were leaving, John supposedly replied, "Well, if you're so cosmic, you know why." After packing their bags to leave India, an angry Lennon wrote the song ''Sexy Sadie". Lennon had scratched the lyrics into a piece of wood. The original title was 'Maharishi' and the lyrics contained obscenities. Lennon refined the lyrics, and had to change the title for fear of being sued. But, Maharishi is song's Sexy Sadie. Prudence Farrow, Mia's sister, was also there, and Lennon also wrote "Dear Prudence." 26 - "Absolutely everything is fixed, and absolutely everything can be changed at any time." Does that sound Helter Skelter? Because one of his followers was nicknamed 'Sadie', Charles Manson believed the Beatles were talking directly to him through their White Album. 25 - "I lack only $1 billion to make a better world" Maharishi's acquired a net worth of several $billion by travelling the world giving lectures, writing 20 books, and building an empire by setting up 370 TM centers with over 6000 teachers. 24 - "I will fill the world with love and create Heaven on Earth." One of his organizations bought this closed hotel in 1992 for $2 mil as a TM training center, giving it the memorable name. 23 - "I am upset and completely disappointed in the government, the millionaires and billionaires in the U.S. See what's happening to the country? Look at all the health problems, the economy and crime." Hotel did not make enough money, nor get Maharishi's money, to maintain it. Thus, the decline in hotel led to a decline in the clientele, leading to reports of drug abuse, theft & other crimes. 22 - Don't quote me on this, but the structure is still in good shape. No cracks. After Maharishi left, it became a crack hotel in the 90′s. The police cracked down and the City shut it down in 1998 for safety & building code violations. 21 - "In the USA we have the great Harvard Business School, but America is the country with the greatest debt in the world." Facing a huge debt, the owner New Era filed for bankruptcy in 2011 to avoid foreclosure. They cannot afford to clean and restore it, especially the asbestos removal. 20 - "Managers are the most creative people in the world" A 3rd investment management firm bought the deteriorating building with a creative vision to create a new living place. 19 - "We should not be influenced by the winds" Their vision was cloudy enough when hurricane Allison caused damage. Then they defaulted on the loan, and back to Yogi. 18 -"Nature knows best how to organise" After the storm, squatters starting breaking in to stay, and caused more damage. 17 - "The important thing is this: to be able, at any moment, to sacrifice what we are for what we could become." The problem investors have with the current structure is 8′-8″ floor-to-floor, too many columns, designed for equipment in basement (which hurricane destroyed, changing building code), too far from downtown and does not connect with the downtown tunnel system. Meditate on that. Oh! I know! A pet hotel! 16 - "Just think of any negativity that comes to you as a raindrop falling into the ocean of your bliss." Maybe the area will boom, creating opportunity. 15 - "Only a new seed will yield a new crop." Right now, this dilapidated building brings to mind the Beatles' song "Help!" and perhaps to the owner, the Doors' "Light My Fire". 2-14 - Review is cleaned of rubble to fit the Yelp 5000 character limit. 1 - "What you see you become." OH-H NO-O-O !!! Ommm...
