The interior is simple yet inviting, with ample, stunning community seating and a casual, laid-back atmosphere that makes it easy to settle in for a long stay or drinks with friends. While the historic nature of the building means the walls are a bit thinner, allowing some outdoor noise, this is the trade-off for staying in a perfectly preserved and modernized piece of history--a charm, not a complaint. Services/Staff: The service is friendly and incredibly lively, precisely what you want from a 5-star experience. Everyone--from the front desk to the staff members we simply walked past--was met with a genuine smile and a warm greeting. Our main hostess ensured our request for a tub was met and was extremely responsive to our emails, ensuring the room was perfect. Whoever is leading the culture here is doing it right by focusing on the little things that matter; the vibe here is palpable. The staff seemed happy to anticipate our every need, including the slippers we asked for last minute! Opportunities to Enhance: A couple of suggestions for perfection. It would be great to enhance the bar offerings at both the poolside and the extensive 10th-floor lounge area. That 10th-floor space is so expansive--with a pool table, TV lounge, and seating--it could be even greater with some good, lively music and dedicated bar service up there to solidify that "drinking spot" vibe. Again, it's already amazing, but just a suggestion for selfish reasons, haha. Summary: It's an absolutely perfect place to visit or have a staycation (what we did), enjoy the stunning amenities, and feel like you're somewhere else. The culture, the service, and the quality of the stay were all exceptional, and it's easily one of Houston's premier hotels. We checked in on a Friday and surprisingly, it didn't feel like we were in Houston anymore. One of the biggest perks of booking through Amex Travel as a Platinum Card member was the daily breakfast for two (up to $60), a $100 hotel credit that we used towards room service, and other Fine Hotels + Resorts perks like early check in and late checkout. Few things about the hotel: -The lobby is modern and stylish, without feeling too pretentious. It has a great energy whether you're checking in or relaxing at the bar, which is right next to it.. The staff was also welcoming, and the check-in process was easy. -Our room was equally impressive. Gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows that let in plenty of natural light. We were also on the highest floor so it made it that much more captivating. The room felt spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom had that luxury hotel feel with a large shower, and nice finishes. Everything felt clean and well-maintained. -The foods we ordered via room service were all good, especially the salmon dish. -Valet is $60 per night, which is pretty standard for luxury hotels in Houston, but it's something to factor into the overall cost of your stay. Not sure why parking in general is so expensive but that irked me. Overall, the Thompson met my expectations. I had a prenatal facial done on Friday July 10th. Morgan at the spa front desk charged me for the wrong guests ticket that cost ($330.98) Not only did she charge me incorrectly, she also made me pay for my own service ($287.26). Morgan said she took off the first charge but when I went to the lobby's front desk they had to reprint the correct invoice. We are ammex card holders so they said we should get $60 credit every morning for breakfast, and a $100 credit to use on the property. I am seeing they haven't applied those credits. We had dinner at Chardon for my birthday on July 11th and watched police take out a group of people from the pool area who were upset because they were cut off from drinking. We also saw another couple escorted out of Chardon because they thought the manager was being racist. I don't think that was the case, but it was extremely chaotic at this point. I felt like I was watching a carnival cruise YouTube video. I also had to call in and complain multiple time because our neighbors on our floor were extremely loud and obnoxious. There was security sent up on Friday night for that as well. I never got to enjoy the pool area because each time we tried to go out, there was no space/chairs to sit. I won't be returning to this hotel, at this price point there shouldn't be problems like these.

i hosted an afternoon tea here with a few other ladies. the first thing was that i had added a few…read morepeople to my list 2 days before the date and given their vegetarian requirements. i was told that it was confirmed and it was fine to add it on such short notice. when i got there they did not have the two people nor their dietary restrictions nor mine which i gave them a week ahead of time listed. so there was a hiccup there. however i was told that they would be able to add and accomodate on the spot. the tea was great. the food was very tasty. my only concern with the food was that everyone else got two scones and i got just one with my dairy free restriction and it felt like i was missed out of the experience because of that. our waiter was sometimes slow getting back to us and it took quite awhile for them to get our sandwiches out. it was taking longer than anticipated and some of us had to leave soon so we asked for our desserts and scone to be presented at the same time which they accommodated. so overall great food, great teak just some hiccups with service.

Parking right in front is limited, but was able to find one across the street when it was full. There is also access at the coffee shop, but I never had to use it. Overall if you want a walkable part of town to restaurants, shops, ice cream and more this is a great location.

The staff doesn't speak great English but they are nice and try their hardest to understand. We did get over charged $20 but Pete resolved that incident real fast. The only thing I didn't like is, there was no breakfast. They served individual wrapped blueberry muffins. And there was only 3 when we got down there and we didn't have any extra toilet paper. Don't let the look and surrounding area turn you away. They are under construction right now, but we didn't hear anything those 2 nights. I recommend this hotel to anyone!
