An exceptional dinner and evening at Hotel Granduca with exceptional service, delightful courses and an elegant environment. We got to say hello to the chef who was just lovely and gracious. The food was divine, making it a great evening al around. The hotel bar closes pretty early but is a beautiful, quiet spot for a cocktail and conversation.

Terrible stay that was overpriced and unsanitary. I rarely give 1 star reviews but it started and ended wrong. I checked into a smoked out room but tried to make the best of a short stay by spraying my own air freshener and cracking the door for a bit. Sit on the balcony to be facing a bunch of dumpsters. I know trash has to go somewhere but upcharging for a dumpster view is insane! Suite had a full kitchen but the wine fridge was locked and there was no soap for dishes which was weird. Bar drinks are ridiculously overpriced. The last mercy blow was the roach that walked across the the bedroom floor. $300 a room and (yes they made me pay it). Disgusting place!

This review is for the High Tea Service, not for the hotel itself. Came here for tea with a group of friends expecting a lovely, girly experience given the price point. I wished I had noticed ahead of time that the reviews for this were mixed, because that's generally how I felt about the experience. Ambiance - Very reminiscent of a resort's replica of a European villa. You pass by some suits of armor and assorted art on the way to your table. A unique vibe that would appeal to many, but was not to my personal taste. The dining area was dignified but had a bit of a lonely vibe. Service - Overall attentive enough but experienced some hiccups. Our waitress spent more time talking to us about adding champagne to our service rather than talking to us about the tea options. They also don't automatically give a basic water service but offer bottled or sparkling, and charge for any option that isn't tap. I understand the desire for a business to upsell, but this practice felt very unsavory to me given the classy experience I thought we were in for. Also, all of the waiters including our main waitress happened to speak very fast, and it was hard to catch what they were saying especially when they were talking about what food they were serving us or what tea options were available. Food - The dinnerware was beautiful and the food itself dainty and tasty. The best item I had was the warm blueberry scone served with the dessert. We were served approximately the same amount of food I've had at other high teas I've been to, but here it's served on individual plates instead of leaving the beautiful tiered tray in the center of the table to nibble on at your leisure. They would then come and go to replace the savory plate with the sweet plate. Doing it this way made the experience feel more rushed instead of leisurely and luxurious. The tea selection was also lacking and there was no bespoke tea menu, so we could only go off verbal recommendations. I would have rather had a chance to look through all of the options. I've been to other high teas before where the food, service, and ambiance combined made the price feel appropriate. That just didn't feel like the case here. There are plenty of other options for high tea in Houston that I think I'd rather try in the future, but I'm glad to have had the experience and spend a good time having tea with my friends. - Ambiance: 3/5 - Food: 4/5 - Service: 2.5/5

Came here for a March of Dimes meeting to support loss of a child . Although mine happened years ago ,it was important to support others recently going through loss. It was a spiritual and beautiful ceremony that gave people some in a time when comfort cannot always be understood . The staff at this beautiful hotel could not have been any better with their gorgeous courtyard outside to host this event. They had a lovely guitarist playing sweet soulful music as participants told their story of loss. The restaurant offered their delicious homemade chocolate cookies to remind you that life can be sweet again even in the times when life makes your heart hurt. The end of the meeting they released the lanterns made that day with the names of their children lost into the pool with a prayer to all, hugs to many and kind words . Thank you to Hotel Granduca for giving a place for healing , kindness and support in your wonderful customer service and space . I appreciated that they closed this area off to the guests of the hotel to allow for privacy and reflection for this private event.

Get transported to a 16th century Palazzo in Savoy near Uptown Park. Inspired by the life and history of Adalberto Malatesta, Granduca of Monfallito, the beautiful Hotel Granduca Houston is a modeled after the Palace of the Duke. Love the open courtyard. So relaxing to sit by the pool, enjoy a cabana or sit in the garden. Very peaceful and tranquil on a breezy early evening in October. Would be a nice place to meet friends or have a quiet evening with someone special. Most recently came for a March of Dimes event. So sad to remember and honor lives that were lost much too soon. Nice to be able to float lanterns in the pool for those who have lost a baby. Would like to come back for afternoon tea. At some point, they also had cooking classes. Not sure if that is still an option due to the pandemic. Parking is available by valet or free self-parking. The light bites were good and served in oversized metal spoons. The tuna tartare was delicious. The burrata was a bit too soft and grainy, but maybe it was due to the Houston heat.

I go to the restaurant in the hotel for afternoon tea every year for my birthday and it is always the highlight of my day. This year they put us in a room with a big round table surrounded my windows and it was perfect. We have the same server every time and she is always so nice and so good. The tea, sandwiches, and desserts are all delicious. They have one of the best scones I've had. They also did a complimentary tableside tiramisu that was so good and I would've eaten more if I wasn't already so full. I love going here!

I've stayed at this property 3 times over the years and had a great experience each time. The staff has always been professional and courteous! The hotel itself is located in a nicer part of Houston, but what I like most is the fact that it's quiet at night. We've stayed at hotels in downtown and it gets very loud at night, especially on the weekends. The rooms are spacious and clean, we saw that during COVID they're using hospital grade sanitizing to clean the rooms. I have not tried their restaurants or afternoon tea service, but in-room dining has been a great experience for us. Overall highly recommend this property!

I really loved staying at Granduca! Yes, I only gave it 4 stars because the furnishings were pretty tired and worn, however, the place was super clean! We stayed the 4th July weekend and it seemed like we were one of about 5 guest rooms that occupied the place. On the 4th of July we were almost the only people at the pool. It was great to practically have the place to ourselves. We ate breakfast one morning and it was very good!! All of the food was fresh and we had a delicious pot of coffee. Everything that we ordered from the bar was well balanced and refreshing. By the pool I had Aperol Spritz's and they were perfect! They offer a yummy watermelon caprese and a very good fruit cup. The bartenders and servers were all super friendly. We stayed in a suite that had a kitchenette. We didn't need/use it but it was nice to have a refrigerator for some bottled water. I was a bit disappointed that when my husband went down to the breakfast area he ordered a pot of coffee to take to the room but he was told there were not enough coffee pots to take one to the room. I thought that was interesting because as I said occupancy was super low. There were only about 5 cars in the parking lot.

We went for a birthday celebration tea. The teas were delicious. The staff was super friendly. The food was tasty and different. It's not a lot of food and sweets. It's about one bite a sandwich. We have stayed longer at other high tea places enjoying the food. This went by super fast. Very rushed. I will say the hotel seemed run down and the music they were blaring all through out our tea service was pop music. It really took away from the nice fancy tea vibe were thought we were going to have.

I stayed here when I was in town for business meetings. The hotel grounds are beautiful and decorated to resemble an Italian villa. My room appeared recently renovated with newer carpet and bathroom. The room itself felt more like a master bedroom or B & B than a hotel. I would call my room and the amenities luxurious. The checkin process was smooth and friendly. The young woman behind the counter thanked me for coming again which was odd since I'd not been there before (more on that later). It took me a bit to figure out the elevator situation since I'd not set foot on the property. Need to use your room key to access the elevators. See pics for details on my room. I used the fitness area and the treadmills were nearly new and very clean! Bonus! The hotel is near several trendy restaurants and a wine bar so I walked to dinner. Very convenient. I had a glass of wine at the bar which was a bit overpriced but the experience was nice. The bar area is organized well and quiet despite having multiple tables with guests. My checkout process was also smooth. When asked if I wanted to see my receipt I said no and should have looked at it. While the price was correct the hotel put someone else's name and address on the bill. My card was charged but a woman with my last name and similar first name were shown on the receipt. Evidently she stayed there before which is why they thought I had too. I called the hotel and they made it right. Overall great experience. Reasonable priced. I would stay here again.

Assortment of Sandwiches and English tea
    Moquita Q.

The fine, yet elegant china, robust finger sandwiches, delicate sweets rich in flavor, and full bodied beverages made this afternoon, tea a sumptuous and stylish experience. Hotel Granduca takes traditional English tea and gives it an Italian flair. Their menu starts you off with a glass of Prosecco (well, who am I kidding? Several glasses of Prosecco) followed by a variety of piquant bites such as a Filo Dough Cup of Lobster Salad with caviar, as well as an assortment of pastries, scones and sweets. Served daily between 2 and 4 p.m. Tag someone you would share a High Tea experience with.

We came here for afternoon tea, $54/per person, comes with savory tea sandwiches, a scone and desserts + a pot of tea of your choice. From the sandwiches to the desserts, everything is elegantly made and tastes amazing, definitely higher quality of food than other afternoon tea places I have been in town. The atmosphere in the tea room is classy and upscale, the staff is friendly and warm, and the serveware you use is delicate and stylish. A great place for ladies' dates, mom-daughter time, girls' celebrations, and you can dress fancy if you would like =)

Non-smoking confirmation. All this was unnecessary as the hotel has so few smoking rooms and we checked in about 2p.

While I understand mistakes happen, what was completely unacceptable was the way the situation was handled afterward. When I called the front desk for help, I was met with rudeness, attitude, and skepticism, as though I was making the situation up. The front desk manager was dismissive and unhelpful, despite the fact that I even offered to personally look through the dirty linens to find my clothing. Two days later, the hotel finally called to say they had found my shirt, only to then ask me to pay for the shipping label to have it returned. No apology. No accountability. No acknowledgment that I was left scrambling and forced to borrow clothes from others in order to attend my event because of their mistake. To make matters worse, the concierge kindly assured me that his manager, Daisy Lopez, would be reaching out to address the situation. Despite following up twice, I never heard another word from the hotel. The issue was never the mistake itself, accidents happen. The issue was the complete lack of professionalism, empathy, accountability, and customer care afterward. For a hotel that prides itself on luxury and reputation, this experience was an absolute disappointment.

Not once did we feel uneasy (and we live in the Houston area - did a staycation for my husband's birthday). A few years ago, it would be a different story. There are a few homeless in the general area, but they aren't disruptive. We stayed in room 705, complete with a city view. It was quiet and lovely. I wish the rooms had a full-size fridge and cooking area, but for downtown, the suites are just as big as a studio apartment. There's space-themed decor throughout the hotel. I found the valet pricing to be a bit steep, and unfortunately, I have reason to believe two pairs of sunglasses were stolen from my vehicle. (I realize they should have been put in my purse immediately after use, but it slipped my mind, and out of habit, I put them in the console.) Regardless, it's frustrating. It also took 10-15 minutes for valet to pull our car around, so that's something to keep in mind. The evening reception was nice, especially with the two drinks/person/night. We had chips and queso, though they had a few other offerings. Make sure you get the card at the front desk. The front desk staff will also try to sell you on destinations for a cheap rate. I'm not sure when this became a thing, but instead of telling us about the evening reception and breakfast, they tried selling us on a stay in Chicago. I really just wanted to go to our room since I did everything on the app. We also found the breakfast to be worth every penny to stay in this hotel. I can't have gluten, and there isn't any GF bread. I had eggs, potatoes, grits, and coffee. There were cereal, fruit, yogurt, and waffle-making options as well. I appreciated the coffee bar having various syrups. The hotel was extremely accessible for those with disabilities/handicaps. We saw several people in wheelchairs or with assistance. Hearsay on the Green is inside the hotel, and the food is priced well for what you get (and it's excellent). If you DoorDash, the Dasher has to leave your food/items at the front desk. They are not permitted to go up to guest rooms. The rooftop pool and hot tub offer views of the city and Toyota Center (excellent people watching). Overall, I'd stay again (but I'd ensure I brought my cheap sunglasses and not my Maui Jims).

Fortunately, both of these factors live up to it's promise and glamour. The restaurant options are aplenty; all that connect to the hotel lobby. Prestigious options such as Xochi, Biggio's, and Walker Street Kitchen are all here. Xochi is the only one we visited during out time there and it's well worth the experience (see my review on that). The rooftop pool has several seating/lounge sections along with a full bar/restaurant at the front area. Additionally, there is a hot tub and a pool on the left side where you get a nice view of the Houston skyline and the Texas-shaped lazy river floats around all of these attractions. It's the main reason why you're coming to this hotel in the first place! Other amenities I liked is the very large fancy exercise room and the club area where they serve complimentary breakfast for platinum and titanium members. The breakfast has some delicious items including fresh pastries, charcuterie selections, and the scrambled cheese eggs. And there's a cappuccino machine included if you want something more fancy than coffee. All these things I've listed and I haven't gotten to our room! We had to find the A/C and turn the temperature down a few degrees. The hotel is located near the arts district where we were planning to spend our Saturday. The earliest we could checkin was 3pm, so we spent our day visiting the city and just left our luggage in the car. Checkin was super easy since we already had a reservation. Parking was included. The property has a fence around it, so the parking felt relatively secure. It was also well lit. The spots in the front were mostly taken, but you could drive around to the back of the building and easily find a space. The hotel has an elevator, but it is very slow. We used the stairs quite a bit, but found the elevator useful for carrying our bags upstairs. The view was limited and not very appealing, but the building only has about three floors. The breakfast area had several tables. the meal is buffet style. They do have hot items like scrambled eggs, sausage, and breakfast tacos. You can make a waffle or toast bread or a bagel. Cold items like juice, yogurt, cereal are also an option. Two staff members were there making sure food was readily available and that things were kept clean. There were a few items that bothered me about this particular hotel. One, there was no TV reception in my room. I couldn't believe there weren't any channels, not even local channels! I was also annoyed that the bathroom sink was not draining properly. My husband had to play with it to get it to drain at all, and even then, it took a very long time for the water in the sink to empty after washing my hands or brushing my teeth. Lastly, the light switch at the entrance of the room only controlled the lighting in the entryway. I had to go around and turn on individual lights to feel like it wasn't so dark. These were minor inconveniences, but for the price, I would have expected these not to be an issue at all. The staff at the front desk were very pleasant and went out of their way to help me. On the day of our departure, my husband wasn't feeling well. They provided me with some bottled water as well as a Sprite to help his stomach. I was so touched by this offer. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. We both got a good night's sleep.

I would say the decor is very old fashion lounge with there being a mix of table with chairs or chairs paired with a couch. Our server seemed very nice but a bit new as she could not tell me if one of the teas was decaf right away. Also, I made a note that I could not have tuna but they took this as I could not have fish so they gave me two chicken salad sandwiches instead of the salmon even though I had stated on the phone salmon was fine. She also could not describe one of the desserts but overall she was very pleasant. The amuse bouche was - interesting ( a strawberry with cream cheese) I didn't hate or love it. I didn't think the cream cheese added anything tbh. We had one dessert on the table waiting for us before we said down - a English parfait that had a white chocolate mouse, cake, and fruit. I loved it although it was a bit strange to have dessert already sitting at your table before you got your sandwiches but I am a dessert first girl so didn't matter to me other than it was constantly calling my name. You don't get to choose your tea and the two tea options are both black which is a lot of caffeine. The sandwiches themselves come across as unassuming but they are great and very filling. Each one has a different bread which was cool. Although not a fan of cucumber, the bread was milky and so soft. All the sandwiches were fantastic. Honestly, I was so full from the tea and sandwiches, I took the desserts home. One big misstep in service was the server forgetting to serve the second tea.
