COMPLETE TRASH HOTEL--SUBSTANDARD AND DANGEROUS--DO NOT STAY HERE!!! Don't let the "Tribute Portfolio" label fool you--this hotel is not where you want to be. The one star is for the bar/lounge, which is very nice with a great bartender. But I digress. Let's start from the beginning. I was excited to book here for a business trip. I typically stay in downtown Houston, near my firm's office, but I had a holiday event to attend near the hotel, so I thought this would be a great choice. WRONG. On day 1, I left my room briefly to go to the gym, after carefully laying out the clothes I planned to wear to my client meetings that day. There was no "Do Not Disturb Sign" available, but I thought to myself--surely housekeeping wouldn't enter my room without an express request that they do so, given post-Covid protocols. Welp, that definitely wasn't the case. I returned an hour later to find my clothes had been handled and moved so the bed could be made, and I'd left valuables and other items out that I never would have, had I known my room would be entered without my knowledge or permission. I called the front desk immediately and asked to speak with a manager. Instead, I got a clueless clerk who couldn't provide any good answers for why my space had been violated. Later that day, as I sat at the desk to work, which was right next to the HVAC unit, COLD air started coming out of the vents, and my attempts to adjust the thermostat were useless. I call to the front desk for the SECOND time that day, and they send two bumbling idiots who called themselves maintenance men to attempt to address the temperature issue. After two different trips and lots of ridiculous explanations for why they couldn't control the temperature, I insisted on being moved to a different room. My mistake for thinking a room change would fixt the issues. The next room was worse than the first. At least the original room had nice panels to cover the retrograde circa 1990 old-school HVAC units that they want to pretend can be controlled by their thermostats. They can't. While attempting to work yet again at the desk in the room, here comes the cold air again. It's freezing outside and in the room, and this hotel couldn't do a thing about it except make nonsensical excuses. I call the front desk YET again. They send the same idiots again, who were incapable of resolving the issue on day 1. By this time, I've had it. I tell the maintenance guy to save the lame b.s. excuses about why a thermostat on the wall can't be relied upon to control the temperature in the room. They offer to set it to "manual" but that's the same offer they'd made the day before and it didn't work. Mr. Idiot decides to get indignant when I remind him of his incompetence from day 1, and my lack of confidence that he can do any better on day 2. What happens next? The idiot "manager" shows up at the door with an attitude worse than his simpleton "maintenance" men. He's confrontational and combative. Marriott needs to send him back to manager training because he is clearly lacking in every respect. To account for his inadequacy and that of his staff, he proceeds to tell me I need to leave the property since I'm raising so much heck about how I'm paying $400 a night as a Platinum Elite Member to freeze to death while I'm trying to get important work done. You want me to leave? GLADLY! I promptly left and went straight to the St. Regis--a REAL HOTEL--unlike this 3-ring circus of clowns at Hotel Vesper. Save yourself the trouble and don't bother checking in to this DUMP. You'll also avoid dealing with the substandard manager and staff. At the St. Regis, I was treated exactly the way I should've been treated at Vesper. But apparently, Vesper didn't get the memo. The definition of "vesper" is "evening prayer." Well, it's my prayer that you never spend a single evening in this trash property with it's trash manager (who, by the way, wears clothes that are at least one or two sizes too small for him) and his garbage staff. Never again! read more
