I had the best stay here! I was in town for work but when my work stuff ended, I stayed a few days to see friends and family in Houston (I was born and raised in Houston but moved away after college). All the common spaces and amenities are really nice. The bed is one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. The room decor was a bit dated and leans heavily "traditional" but it was fine because the bed and the pillows were incredible. I actually found out where online I could order the same pillow for my house and ordered a set before I even got to my flight to go home. The covered parking pull-thru was great because too many downtown hotels make it stressful to arrive and unloading your luggage, or don't have anywhere for a friend picking you up to wait if you take a few minutes getting down from the hotel room. The valet parking was a little off-putting that the guy who ran to take the keys from a friend who valeted their car to eat dinner in the restaurant with me, was wearing an Ecko t-shirt rather than an identifiable valet service uniform. He just kind of looked like a guy off the street trying to take the car keys. Didn't love that, I guess. But overall this hotel is doing a great job and offers an exceptional value in downtown Houston. I can't wait to go back to visit and stay here. It's great to not even need to compare different options. Just knowing that I know a good place and can confidently make my booking without FOMO of some hypothetical better option. read more

My birthday weekend was a blast! The atmosphere was fun, the crowd was friendly, and the overall vibe made for a great time. We met some really cool people, and it ended up being a great place to network and socialize. The pool is on the smaller side, with the deepest point being about 4 feet 6 inches. There were around 30 people there on Saturday, and everyone was just lounging, relaxing, and enjoying themselves. That said, the hotel itself is definitely outdated, so I'd say the reviews mentioning that are accurate. I was also surprised by how expensive it was considering the condition of the property. While I had an amazing birthday weekend because of the people and the atmosphere, I probably wouldn't stay here again if my main reason was just to use the pool. read more

If you've found this review, it's likely because you are scrolling through trying to figure out if there is anything redeemable about this location. There is, and it's the reason why I gave it a 1 star... you will be able to tell your family and friends "I survived The Whitehall". The property looks nice, but it's as if there were outer space aliens working to create an interpretation of a nice hotel. The valet doesn't greet you, the front desk staff have a tinge of annoyance at any requests you make, and you will spend the whole night convincing your family that "this isn't ToO bad". No, this review is not "months old therefore it may be better", I can assure you a stay here will leave you drained and more tense than when you came. I would not recommend this place definitely for the cost and the amenities because a couple of things. First they don't have fridges in the rooms, you have to request them...what? And they don't come immediately or within a couple of hours. I walked in my room near midnight and the fridge was still warm Second why ask for special requests it doesn't matter. My request was pool view as i didn't want to see corporate downtown bc it would just remind me of work. The concierge told me I got the pool view, but it was wasn't...it was the corporate view. Then I called and the switched me to a "pool view" but i was just looking at the top of another building. Then I call back and they say its not available, why did they switch me? Just say in the first place it wasn't available. But then I got back in the elevator and a person walks in and tells me he just booked the room I wanted. . DO NOT STAY HERE... Very disappointed... Floor sticky, no door on safe, furniture chipped and rickety, carpet had stains, bathroom was a disaster from the broken shower to the torn and frayed towels. This hotel is disgusting. Arrived to brown stains on the sheets and a can of whipped cream in the drawer. Did no one clean this room? Update- the front desk sent a security guard up with some extra sheets and said absolutely nothing about the whipped cream and didn't removed it. In the morning the manager was informed and promised that house keeping would come get the whipped cream and yet the whipped cream can is still here. Also, I'm attaching a picture of the pee stained rug and the moldy keurig. I was very uncomfortable and the room may have not been cleaned recently. The sheets smelled old. It was not a comfortable room for me. There is a huge gap under the room door. Major upgrades needed. Downtown Houston, TX hotel Stayed here for work in March. I requested quiet room and they gave me a room right next to an elevator. The room was changed to an end of the hall but shower drainage wasn't working and had to be fixed. I couldn't raise the temperature of the room and without downcomforter it was very cold during the nite. The bed and the pillow were firm and comfy. The lights in the bathroom was too dim to put a make up on and the furniture were out dated. Their exercise room and swimming pool was small. I did not try the food at the restaurant but their coffee and wine was good. read more

I called the hotel on the same day I made my reservation specifically to confirm the type of shower in the room. I asked if the bathrooms had stand-in showers with glass doors or shower/tub combos with shower curtains, as I find the latter unsanitary and will not stay in hotels that use them. The representative assured me, "None of our rooms have shower curtains." However, upon checking in just a few hours later, I was placed in a room with exactly what I asked to avoid -- a shower/tub combo with a shower curtain. Not only was this incredibly frustrating, but the room itself was disgustingly filthy. There were chewed and spat-out sunflower seed shells scattered across the floor, stains on the walls and doors, and the towels were covered in what appeared to be pet hair. The toilet barely flushed. I immediately went to the front desk to express my concerns, only to be told they were at full capacity and couldn't guarantee me a room with the shower type I originally requested -- completely invalidating the point of my call in the first place. To make matters worse, the elevators were painfully slow; I waited up to 8 minutes just to get downstairs at one point. I would never stay at this hotel again and highly recommend considering The Laura or Marriott Marquis, both of which are nearby and offer significantly better service and cleanliness. read more

During my two night stay, I parked my truck in valet. While it was parked with them, something dripped on the truck hood that left two permanent stains (pics attached). I did not notice the stains until after we left because we were in a hurry. When I notified the hotel of the damage, they responded that they conducted an "investigation" and could not find a leak that caused the damage. They sent me blurry surveillance videos at the wrong angle to try and assert that the stains were not there when I left. I am now stuck with a damaged truck due to neglectful valet service that I paid extra for! Forget this hotel and spend a little more at a hotel that will take care of you and value your property. read more

I'll start with the customer service here because I felt that it was one of the best things here. The staff did a great job. They were all so friendly, nice, and helpful. The lobby also looked pretty. I liked the way the lobby looked. The valet area also looked nice. I felt the valet area had a nice set up and decor going on. Now onto the rooms: the room definitely needed a renovation. Trying to get some hot water was a total mess! It's either you know how to stop it at a certain point to be able to get hot water in the shower, or you're taking a cold shower. The tub also definitely needed a renovation. For the prices we are paying, I would think the tub could've been at least replaced by now. The phones: the phones never worked. I could call out, but nobody on the other line could ever hear me. This made it very inconvenient as we could've been calling valet to let them know we were coming down so our car could be ready by the time we got down there. We also needed to know where the ice was and the WiFi password. We had to come all the way from floor 7 to ask the front desk since the phones didn't work. Our room didn't have a fridge or a microwave, but I didn't mind since we could've just gotten ice for our drinks. In all, I wouldn't stay here again. Get new phones and a new tub, please. This was my first ever visit to Houston. When I arrived to check in, it was my first stop. And I couldn't check in because a homeless person was throwing a tantrum in the lobby because he wanted them to give him a free room. We had to wait 30 minutes for the police to get him to go outside so we could actually attempt to check in. Then the poor front desk lady (who was super nice) was literally traumatized. That was NOT a nice start to the trip, and made me feel extremely unsafe there. The other countless people standing all around the lobby said it had been going on for awhile before we arrived. When we got to the room, it wasn't that clean. The photos definitely made it look nice than it was. I would 100% not stay here again. read more

The Servers for the food were very attentive and professional. They kept checking to see if we needed anything. The food was good. I had a chance to meet two ladies I had not seen since I was a kid. I came to Houston for work and stayed at the Whitehall. First thing when I came up to my room the toilette wouldn't flush and the door to my room wouldn't close all the way. They gave me a new room and this room had a sink that would leak all over when I turned the water on so I had to wrap a towel around the the faucet to keep the water from flowing all over and multiple outlets in the room didn't work. Also, the room was not very clean. I try not to complain, however when you're spending a good amount on a room you don't want to be fixing things the whole time and made to feel like all these issues are just minor inconveniences. read more

Stayed overnight here while in town for a quick event. Really nice feel and ambience. The room is very large, for a standard room it was incredibly large. There is also an outdoor bar and patio area attached to the hotel. I tried the smoked cherry Manhattan and it was absolutely decadent! I wish I could have that as a standard drink in all bars. My plus one tried an old fashioned and was also impressed w the quality of the flavors. The pool fitness area is also really nice, cabana seating available, with fans. Overall I'd be happy to stay there again, it was a convenient location, within 5-15 mins from everything we wanted to do and central location to many different dining options. read more

We booked the room for 4 people and was given a room with only a king size bed. Called the front desk and they immediately rectified it. The second room we got was a little dated with a small bathroom. The shower door kept sliding open but we were only staying one night so it wasn't a big deal. Another thing was the hotel only had two guest elevators serving 12 floors. Aside from the bathroom issue and slow elevator I have no other complaints. All the staff were very attentive and great location. I would stay here again. Tip: they say there's only valet but there's actually onside street parking. We paid $40 for valet only to find out there's street parking later that night. If you're there on a weekend, street parking is free. read more

I stayed here this past weekend and the location was the best thing about it. They also provide you with two drinking credits if you don't get cleaning service, which I loved. As usual, the lobby looked fancy. But unfortunately, I was disappointed with the appearance of the hotel rooms. The hallways, carpet and rooms were all dated. I'm talking chipping, paint and plaster throughout the room and in the bathroom. The overall vibe was just kind of grungy. I got locked out of my room due to the keys not working and maintenance having to come up and fix the door and provided two extra sets of replacement keys. My cousin was roomed next to me and had the same problem with her door and we continue to have the door jam on us throughout our stay at the hotel. At first, the staff tried to blame me for why the keys weren't working, And told me to use the hallway phone in the event I get locked out again. So I go upstairs to use a new set of keys and it doesn't work. So I use the hallway phone like I was told & that doesn't work! So it became clear after they gave me the THIRD pair of keys, that this was an issue with the doors themselves. The pool was also small and shallow. The pool did not have a bar and again the pool area and furniture seem to be very dated. Another thing to note was that the elevators seemed to be very slow and did not indicate whether they were going up or down. This wouldn't be an issue if we had four or more elevators, but being that it's only two a lot of people would crowd on these elevators; some going up others going down. Overall, it was clean but it's not my preferred hotel for this price point. read more

It's clean. The staff is friendly. The valet did a great job with the car. I'm not sure if you believe in spirits, but I kept feeling like someone poked me just as I would almost fall asleep or different lights would randomly turn on. The location was ideal for what I needed. If you opt for fewer room cleaning visits then they give you a coupon. That was nice. The tv had cable that included HBO. Pleasant stay. read more

When you walk into the lobby it seems like the hotel would be beautiful but that's where it stops. THE ROOM: They are old! Although there was a posted it on the door that reads "this room has been cleaned and sanitized" it wasn't the tv and headboard had layers of dust. There were scuff marks on the walls. The air conditioning vent had dust all over it and the cover was broken. The AC made so much noise. The restroom was so super small, had no storage, there were 2 holes on the celling above the shower, and the bathtub paint was peeling. The TV was also small, it must have been a 20" TV. LOCATION: The hotel is located in front of the interstate, so you could hear all the traffic, cars racing on the highway, and gun shots (yes! we heard several gun shots). NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY: My family stayed on the 7th floor and I had other family staying on the 11th floor. Both floors smelled like weed. The room across from my parents had 2 guys in it, smoking it up. In addition, I felt as if I was staying at a strip club hotel because as we were leaving for dinner, about 20 girls leaving the lobby were dressed in very provocative clothes (ass cheeks, and boobs all over the place) I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO FAMILIES. Never heard of this hotel before my stay. I stayed here for a weekend for work and enjoyed it very much. The rooms are clean, the pool area is nice and inviting. They offer decent dining experiences, valet ($15), and a small functional business center which I actually ended up using for once. Needs a stapler! Ha. The catered breakfast was just right and I want some more right now. I stayed in a double queen with a coworker and the only annoying part during our entire stay, our keys didn't work simultaneously. If mine was working, hers wasn't (and vice versa). It was such a pain having to go to the front desk to rectify the situation...again. Gratefully we were together often, but the times we weren't was very inconvenient. I would have been more upset if I was paying. Nonetheless, I'd stay here again. I also had unusual trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi, but I got a feeling it was human error. All the staff from front desk, to valet, and banquet were courteous. read more

Decided to stay here for Mother's Day, great decision. The room is so spacious and very clean. Comfiest bed and pillows I've ever slept in. Booked the executive room which gives you the higher floor options with a better view. I had a great view of the downtown city skyline. The room had a walk in glass door shower, all black, felt very sexy. The pool area had plenty of seating options, chairs, loungers and shaded outdoor sectionals. The lobby and walkway on the 2nd floor to the pool, all beautiful. Valet was reasonable priced and very fast and kind service. The men were very helpful and very kind. Had a great experience. Icing on the cake, I left my fire stick in my hotel room and they kept it for me. It didn't "magically disappear" that's integrity on the hotel and housekeeping. We booked for a Sunday night and live 2 1/2 hours away. We drove to the establishment only to find that our thermostat was not working. The thermostat was set to 80° and we tried setting it to 69, to 66, and to 60. It would not change so we Left the hotel and headed to dinner, and then a friend's house, hoping that it would be fixed by the time we came back. We came back only to find that the thermostat was still on 80° and would not change for the next two hours we were there. We packed up our stuff and left. And drove home until 4 AM in the morning. read more

Very nice hotel. Nice staff. Valet parking. Pretty room was secured against any sound from the nearby highway (quite an achievement) but we were close to the elevator which was a bit noisy until about midnight. It wasn't really bothersome, but if you are sensitive to such things you might ask for a room that is not contiguous to the elevators. Coffee shop was open on a weekday (Friday) morning. I stayed in an executive suite (520 sq feet) for extra room for my family and it was worth the surprisingly small up-charge. I booked online directly with the hotel on the day of my trip and the difference was only $20 (compared to a standard room exactly one half the size). My only complaint, and it's fairly mild, was that the room's shower was slow to drain. I brought it to the attention of hotel staff before departure. Oh, and the staff is sending someone to look at the shower. Neat! read more

me and my friends booked here Sunday night. when we checked in, the thermostat was set to 79 degrees. we put it down to around 66/70 to try to cool the room off and it never budged. we got ready for dinner and left and set the thermostat at around 60 degrees and went to dinner and a friends house. we got back and our room was now at 80 degrees and MISERABLE. we could not sleep so we ended up packing up and leaving and driving almost 3 hours back home at like 1 in the morning. we attempted to get a refund and the front desk was extremely rude to my friend (who made the reservation on her card) and hung up in her face. it's already hard enough to receive good service these days. if we're paying a decent price we'd expect to at least have AC and kind receptionists. read more

I spent a total of six hours at The Whitehall. My husband and I were in Houston for work, and we booked a last-minute room on Hotel Tonight on our drive from Austin. It wasn't cheap, but we wanted to stay somewhere decent, since we'd be waking up before five and flying home and going to work the next day, a regular-ass Tuesday. The desk staff was friendly, and our room was small but attractive, with a comfortable bed, which was really all we needed. I slept as well as I could and was satisfied with my experience. One big complaint, though, which has nothing to do with the facilities or the on-the-ground staff. The hotel automatically added me to their email list and started sending promotional emails immediately--not my favorite souvenir from a six-hour visit, and I'm now seeing they don't include an unsubscribe link. This is not really okay, and makes me feel much less positive about this hotel. But if not for this, I would have been happy to stay at The Whitehall again. read more
