We enjoyed our stay at Hotel CURRENT - we booked a Snooze and Cruise package where we stayed overnight and they shuttled us to the cruise port and our car stayed in their lot for the week. We were anxious going into it, but Hotel CURRENT really has made a good setup, we booked our time slot and the van was there waiting for us when it was our time. The pool area is beautiful, good space to lounge and enjoy. The water was a bit chilly for me, but my kids enjoyed it to the fullest. The room we had was spacious, good sized bathroom, and the bed was quite comfy. We'd definitely stay here again for another snooze and cruise or even just a stay.

I'm back!!! Pleased to say the hotel has had some updates, but unfortunately they still don't offer the breakfast. The rooms are clean but the beds are only full sized beds. They do have the shuttle for the cruise port once again so I'm pleased to report that!

Google search lead us to booking this hotel for one night while traveling through Long Beach. Booked the same day (Saturday) through Expedia for a total of $219.72 (price includes all fees and taxes. We were genuinely surprised at the level of cleanliness, upgraded design and lovely hospitality of this hotel. We would have never picked this hotel based on the exterior - it looks rather dated - yet wow with the inside! The photos posted on Expedia are SPOT on. For a Saturday night, this part of Long Beach was very safe and quiet. We're definitely staying here next time! Let me know if you find this review helpful?

Worst Hotel EVER! My dad booked for this hotel and first thing when we got there My mom went to the lobby and staff was extremely rude. When we got to our room the floor was extremely dirty. And im not exaggerating. I mean dirty like dust, pet food, vomit, and hair! We went to the store and when we came back there was a HUGE worm. Most likely not coming back. Also not to forget the additional fees.

cockroach (dead) in a different room

I am utterly surprised that this hotel received such great ratings. While parking ($15/self park) was fine, the spots were narrow and there were many times lack of parking if you stayed out too late. However, my biggest issue were the cockroaches. Yes you heard me. In two different rooms, I have videos, photos, it was one of the most horrifying experiences I had ever had. Imagine going to the toilet, opening up the toilet and finding a 4 inch cockroach in it. That's INSANE. That's literally what happened. I tried flushing the toilet MULTIPLE times without avail. The management (not the actual managers, just the staff), tried to help by moving us into different rooms but the different rooms ALSO had the same issue. How can this hotel be operating still? What are their cleaning procedures? Forget covid, these roaches are very much alive!

Spacious shower showing the shower head and soap dispensers

What's NOT current at Hotel Current We stayed here for the first time since it's near our kid's dorm and it received good reviews from other parents who've stayed for college events. I've seen it many times on our way to and from the campus and was hesitant but my wife makes all the arrangements and so I just keep my mouth shut. I was actually okay with Current but not at the current price we paid. Having a complementary breakfast and parking would've sealed the deal but instead a trip to Wallymart for bagels and McD's were necessary. "I" think the hotel was trying to make themselves seem more opulent than what it really is by making the bed high off the floor and the sink that sat at my belly button and almost shoulder height with my personal concierge wife. The mattress was actually comfy but the pillows were totally uncomfortable. Pillows were not full sized pillows but half a regular sized pillow so it was hard for me to sleep comfortably. I recommend bringing your own. They also placed these disgusting ugly stained pillow throws on the beds that were totally unnecessary! The AC unit was well past its useful hotel life and a newer unit that's quiet with an accurate thermostat would be nice. The little AC unit struggled to cool the room and it would just stop. I had to turn the power off and on just to get it working throughout our stay. The noise would drown out the tv and irritating trying to sleep. One good selling point is the bathroom and shower. Our room had two slider doors; one to separate the bathroom from the bed area and another that separated the sink from the commode / shower. The shower was very spacious with a rainwater shower head that worked well with sufficient water to wash off soap which were provided with dispensers of body wash and shampoo but no conditioner which wasn't a big deal for me but to some it may. My concierge didn't complain so it didn't bother her either. In my opinion, the room should've been priced less than the hotels closer to the airport which provides breakfast. My only real gripes were the parking fees and air conditioner but let's list what wasn't current at Hotel Current: 1) Air conditioner. Just replace them 2) Pillows and throw pillows. Just delete the pillow throws and provide full size ones that are comfy 3) Floors seemed to be clean but stained and dingy 4) Cabinets were also dingy and looked like an Earl Sheib paint job (who's earl sheib?) 5) Shower tile grout were either dingy or had areas with different colored grout. I didn't want to look too closely because if it didn't see it, it didn't exist 6) Lamps looked like they came from grandma's house and I'm in my 60s! 7) Door seals on our room needed to be replaced or installed because i could see daylight around the door 8) Bed frames. It was a slight struggle getting onto the bed. My short concierge wife had relive her childhood days by making a running somersault leap onto the mattress for which I gave her a score of 9.5. With all those outdated discrepancies, the best part of our stay were the staff. They were all delightful and I was greeted with a nice "Hola" our first morning .

I walked into a space that is smaller than some larger Japanese gardens, but the layout feels carefully planned with winding paths, traditional landscaping, a koi pond, waterfalls, bridges, and quiet corners throughout. It is the type of place where taking your time matters more than trying to see everything quickly, and the smaller size actually makes the experience feel more intimate. The garden feels like a world apart from the campus surrounding it, and the transition from the university grounds to the garden is immediate and effective. The koi pond is easily the centerpiece of the garden and one of the most enjoyable parts to spend time around. I found myself lingering by the water, watching the fish move through the pond as the sunlight filtered through the trees. The fish are large and active, and the surrounding greenery, stone features, and water elements create a very relaxing atmosphere. The garden does a good job balancing natural scenery with traditional Japanese design, with each section offering a slightly different view and feeling as I walked through. The bridges and stone lanterns add to the sense of place, and the sound of the waterfalls creates a calming background that stays with you as you move through the space. What I liked most about this garden is how calm it feels despite being located on a college campus. It feels separated from the surrounding area once you enter, making it a nice place for a quiet walk, photography, or just taking a break. The landscaping is well maintained, and the entire space has a slower pace that encourages you to actually stop and appreciate the details rather than rushing through. The garden's design rewards a slow approach, with each turn in the path offering a slightly different perspective on the pond, the plants, and the stonework. The visit is fairly quick since the garden is compact, but it works well as a relaxing stop rather than a destination that takes up an entire afternoon. Reservations are required, so it is worth checking availability before going. Admission is free, although parking is an extra cost and can be the main inconvenience, especially during busy campus hours. The garden's location on campus makes it accessible, but the parking situation can require a bit of patience. Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden is a beautiful spot if you are looking for a peaceful escape rather than a large attraction. The koi pond, thoughtful design, and quiet atmosphere make it a place worth visiting, especially on a nice day when you can take your time walking through the garden. It offers a brief but meaningful pause from the surrounding city and campus life, and the care that has gone into maintaining the space is evident in every corner.

My wife and I discovered The Modern during a special event right before I proposed, and we knew that if we ever got married, this would be the place. Following our engagement, we had a tour of the place with Mary, and we were 1000% convinced with the place since Mary came with the package lol. The communication throughout the course of our planning was outstanding, and both Abel and Mary addressed all our inquiries and concerns without hesitation and with clear answers. While the conditions of the contract initially seemed rigid, all guidelines and expectations were stated clearly, and both Abel and Mary provided all the support necessary to ensure the vendors understood and executed per the contract accordingly. All terms of the pricing were transparent, and we found the costs to be worth every penny, as we were 1000% satisfied with the venue. Through the course of our two-year planning, Abel and Mary were available and offered the walkthroughs necessary for the vendors and us to plan accordingly and execute an impeccably perfect wedding. Mary did an outstanding job and exerted so much patience with both my Wife and I through the course of food and drink tasting. She assessed our preferences and perfected our specialty cocktails and food menu to reflect my wife, our guests, and I. We appreciated the opportunity to host our rehearsal brunch at their Kitchen and Bar located below the venue. Our guests enjoyed getting a small taste of the delicious food and drinks they'd be having the following day at the actual wedding. The day of the wedding could not have unfolded so perfectly, both aesthetically and logistically. Abel and Mary coordinated and collaborated in unison with our group of vendors, and they really outdid themselves by providing the foundation to our dream wedding, literally. They did an amazing and efficient job at flipping the venue space for the reception. All while our guests were enjoying themselves in the lavish lounge during cocktail hour. The venue itself is perfect. It is very modern, clean, spacious, classy, and their furniture and greenery were the perfect accessories necessary to complete our wedding day. And that's not all. The VIEWS are one of a kind as the venue has an entire wall space made up of windows that overlooks Long Beach Airport and an outdoor terrace that allowed us and our guests to enjoy the views. We literally had airplanes flying up and down during our entire wedding, with a grand exit of us flying off in a helicopter. My wife, our guests, and I cannot believe how perfect the entire day turned out. They will not stop raving about how perfect and beautiful everything turned out. From the food to the drinks and the wonderful bartenders, and of course to how magically, beautiful our wedding was. None of which would have been possible without the fantastic venue, Abel, Mary and their team. While we are saddened to turn the chapter from the wedding planning and wedding, we are so so so happy we chose The Modern.
