So you have to haul your luggage through the people drinking in the parking lot, around those sitting on the stairs smoking, and then to your room (and we were there on week nights; not the weekend). Looks recently remodeled but the trendy "barn door" into the bathroom was off the rails and kept trapping us inside. Pool is clean, the cabana and pool chair loungers are nice to have under palm trees. Not noisy at all. We liked our stay. I was invited to the grand opening party for this newly owned and renovated hotel last week. It's a a bit awkward getting there from 7th St coming from downtown LB, since you can't turn left on PCH, but hey nothing good is ever easy to get to right? Driving up, the exterior is a bit like a walled castle, all white with hints of ocean blue. We walked in to a decent sized lobby area. It was styled with contemporary furniture, which definitely was a nice touch. The lobby leads directly to the pool area surrounded by a few shaded cabanas and palm trees. I can definitely see how it can be a relaxing area to hang out. The pool area is surrounded by guest rooms as well as an on-site restaurant that look rather spacious. They had a few rooms on exhibit, so I was able to check them out. And, wow was I impressed! Fairly spacious, with clean white bed linens and modern furniture. The bathrooms were so nice too! The shower was large and I think made with stone tiles like if you were in those Caribbean resorts. The rooms reminded me of the nice boutique-style hotels I stayed at in Europe, but with more space of course. What a wonderful job the new owners did in renovating and redecorating this hotel! I was blown and this review went from a 4-star to a 5-star review! Hotel Current's staff is A+ as well with great customer service; patient and informative! I think another one of their plus is their shuttle service because you can take it to Long Beach Airport, Downtown Long Beach, and the Queen Mary just to name a few. They can also pick you up for free, too! Plus, they have deals on Yelp and Jet Blue; just ask for a discount! We stayed at Room 136, which was next to the laundry room for the staff. Stayed here for my wedding nd they were SO great!!! I adore this place! On the outside, it looks like a motel but when you go inside -SUPER modern! Very contemporary. I stayed in the apartment complex which included a bedroom, kitchen, living room and awesome bathroom. It was perfect for me and the bridal party to get ready. Bedroom: Tv and comfy bed. Only downside is not enough outlets to charge stuff in there. But bed was comfy. Kitchen: Stocked with fridge, microwave, plates, and coffee maker. Nice size. Living room: couch, chairs, desk, tv - nice Decor. Awesome space. Bathroom: very contemporary. Condiments: they have the shampoo/conditioner on the wall. So eh. Lobby: awesome lobby area. My criticism of this hotel on my last visit was the cleanliness of the room. This issue has been resolved. We found the room to be first rate, clean and remodeled. Very pleased with all aspects of this visit. We had a "lifestyle" room which faced PCH. While the sound of the traffic did not disturb my sleep, it did bother my dad. Suggest requesting a room not facing PCH if you have this problem. Gave this an average on the noise level, because of the road noise from PCH. Personally, I felt that this was a quiet hotel. This is a very clean motel. We checked into a jacuzzi room after looking at other motels in Long Beach. This was the best. We live in Long Beach but don't own a jacuzzi yet. The Tub is okay, not like newer multi jet models, but good for two. That night the AC unit quit. The maintenance man couldn't fix it so we left. The next day we called and they had already adjusted our room charge. This was unexpected and the front desk was very nice and apologetic about it. We'll Come back. They are that nice. read more

I live in Long Beach, therefore, I have no need to stay in a hotel in my city. But there have been a few times where I found myself in a hotel IN Long Beach because I had a little too much of the jungle juice. If my memory serves me well, this place used to be a motel of sorts before it transformed into a "boutique" style hotel. I remember always zooming past it on PCH, never giving it a second glance. Suddenly, I found myself at an event for Hotel Current's debut as a chic-boutique hotel. Synchronized swimmers adorned the outdoor pool, caterers and desserts covered every corner of the outside patio, people mingles and convened at the nearest bar. It was an event that had you rubbing elbows with Long Beach's finest. I, however, ended up bumping into my old childhood friends (whom I am no longer friends with because, well, ya know) and an old friend I used to work with back in my punk rock days (I am not the aging punk rocker to claim that statement, however, I did go thru phases in my lifetime). I did not stay at this hotel but was allowed to preview the rooms. Sure, they all looked upscale and nice -- a little reminiscent to the Standard in LA, but you really can't help but notice that...it's still a MOTEL. You still have to walk outside to get into your room and the rooms themselves are not all that big. The pool is small and there really isn't much of a view. Since this event was in the evening, everything was twinkling and lit up pretty nicely. I don't know what the scenery is like during the daytime - I can't imagine it being breath taking. The front area of the building looks new and polished -- again, very modern looking and clean. The rates are also on the above moderate scale. Hotel Current probably wouldn't be my first choice for lodging in the Long Beach area -- but then again, it is slightly close to Belmont Shore. read more

I was very happy with this hotel. It is an older hotel that seems to have been remodeled... It's very clean, modern and had great decor. I stayed for 3 nights and would definitely stay again. Pros: -- very clean, modern design... Very cute and spacious bathrooms -- relaxing location that isn't too congested and across from a golf course -- free parking & internet -- relaxing pool area with good seating and lounge chairs -- mini fridge in all rooms and nice flat screen TVs with lots of channels -- I can tell the cleaning crew works very hard and they are very friendly... Kudos to the hardworking cleaning crew Cons: -- I can't stand rainfall shower heads...the water pressure is horrible and for women with long hair it sucks rinsing with something that just sprinkles. I never understood why people like those shower heads... The pressure is horrible. -- it does get pretty loud at night or morning with thumping sounds... Likely people letting their doors slam shut. I am really frustrated with Hotel Current and will likely never stay there again or recommend it. I purchased the $119 YELP DEAL and when I called to book a room on the weekend, they were booked solid for a month, which was fine. I booked for a Saturday in mid-August and was told I could upgrade to a King bed room with jacuzzi because I booked through Yelp, pending availability. When we arrived at the hotel, the outside looked like a newly painted drive-up-to-your-room type of motel with very modern decor in the lobby. The woman who checked us in was kind of snooty and literally scoffed at me when I told her I had the Yelp voucher on my phone and not printed out, even though it says on the voucher that I would just have to give the promotion code when I booked the room (and i did that). She also didn't give us any other information, ie what direction is our room in? When is the check out time? Do you serve breakfast? etc. We found our room and I noticed right away that the door didn't fit quite right into the door frame so there was a bit of room under the door where you could see light from inside the room or outside the room depending on which side of the door you were standing on. Not a huge deal, just something I would fix if I owned the place. The room was clean, though you could tell it was an old building that had just been repainted. It had a nice king size bed with cozy white bed linens and a bright abstract painting above the bed. The lighting was sparse, but it did have a medium sized window facing the West. The very WEIRD thing about the room was that the bathroom wasn't separate from the room, as in you could stand in the middle of the room and on one side is the bed and the other side is the hot tub and next to that, a shower stall and toilet. So no bathroom privacy. TOTALLY AWKWARD. We woke up the next morning and went to the front desk to ask about breakfast - they DO have it, if I remember correctly it's from 6am-9am and they have a nice spread of generic hotel breakfast food. It's free, so not a bad offering. Ok ok - so the stay was ok, albeit with the awkward bathroom situation. The part I am frustrated with is that a week later I discovered Hotel Current had charged my credit card for the room! So I called, wondering how many people get double-charged and never realize it, and the friendly girl I spoke with was quick to refund me and apologize. (To be honest, it almost seemed common place for her to do this.) Then today I was checking my account again, to see that they placed another charge on my account of $10.00. WTF?! The guy I spoke with said it's a tax on the room that I have to pay for and is listed on the Yelp deal. Well, IT'S NOT. But it's $10 and I'm done with Hotel Current, so screw it. If you're expecting to stay at a decent hotel that is competent at guest billing, forget this place. read more

Really nice hotel for the price. Stayed overnight for the IBJJF International Championships at CSLB and they actually had a shuttle, which was nice. They even picked us up and brought us back to the hotel with only a phone call. The rooms have a great modern look to them, with nicely upgraded bathrooms, and are pretty quiet. The pool was a lot of fun to lounge by. I did partake in the free breakfast, your typical "Free Continental breakfast", but free is free. Decent price. I would recommend as an affordable spot for a night or two. Will be back for sure. read more

I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this hotel yet, I've been staying here for years! We love it here when we want a quick weekend getaway to relax our sore muscles in the in-room hot tubs. The rooms are always clean and the beds super comfy and plush. My son loves swimming in the pool which is also very clean, modern and warm. There's some great food options nearby and Wayne and the staff have always been kind and welcoming - they go above and beyond for anything we may need (they've practically watched my son grow up!). So it was our anniversary and we wanted to celebrate but didn't have the time to go away. We had a "staycation" and spent the night at the Hotel CURRENT. Seriously, I haven't been this relaxed in a long time. From the moment we arrived the staff was very courteous wishing us a "happy anniversary". They were really helpful in general which is a big plus. I walked into our room and was very happy. It felt light and airy and I immediately saw this huge tub. YES!!! A curtain separates it from the bathroom and then another from the bedroom. It even had jets. The room had a modern vibe to it, colorful art and open spaces. The bed was huge and very comfy. Basically so comfy that we decided to stay in and not go out to dinner. I appreciated the nice small touches like the cute towel display and scented soaps. Check out was at 12 and I appreciated that extra hour of sleep. I know that they've offered Living Social Deals before and I'd say it is well worth the deal. Its got a small homey feel which I liked. We had a funeral to attend in Long Beach and while looking for hotels we came upon this one. Base on the good reviews on multiple site, we booked Hotel Current. Our check in went smoothly, in fact they let us check in early as well. We got two rooms next to each other; one of the room (no complaints) the other room: on one of the bed, the sheet had a little brown stain on it and on the other one, the pillow had a stain. However, since we are the type of travelers who brings our own bedding, we didn't mind putting our bedsheet on top of their stuff. The shower was nice and roomy. There were no locks on the bathroom door, they were sliding door. There were plenty of parking space considering that the hotel was booked/sold out for the night. However, parking space was a little small/right for our Tundra. Over all, I probably wouldn't book this hotel again.. read more

My friends and I decided to stay at Hotel Current because it was listed on the Long Beach Marathon website and out of all our options, this hotel had the best amenities that we was looking for. I guess the hotel was recently renovated and you can totally tell when you enter the lobby. Very chic and modern. Looking out from the lobby was the pool and it looked like a nice place to hang out. The Hotel was located a few miles away from the start line but the best thing that they offer (all the time) is a shuttle service anywhere within a 5 mile radius. The room that we stayed in was not a remodeled one so it was just your standard room. Parking was a bit difficult but I think on a normal weekend, you should be fine. The morning of the race, there was breakfast served and I saw someone come out with waffles! I didn't have time to check out the breakfast though. They also offered a complimentary one day pass to Frog's Fitness (which I didn't get the chance to use, I figured running a half marathon would be sufficient for the week) The best thing that the hotel did for the runners was offer a late check out of 3pm. My friend ran the marathon so it allowed us enough time to shower and pack our things without rushing. Overall, I would stay at Hotel Current again if I ever went to Long Beach for some reason. read more

Without reservation, I can recommend this hotel. When you arrive it appears to be more of a motel, but wait until you walk into your room. When you open the door, you'll find fresh new decor with avant garde fixtures. the rooms are inviting and relaxing. Although my room faced PCH, I slept like a log due to the thickness of the sliding glass door. The breakfast is clearly European style continental. Wow. We've been here twice now and the customer service is top notch! We come here when they have softball tournaments which is usually July 4th weekend. We enjoyed the hotel last time- it's close to the fields, it's a decent price per night. It's also pretty centrally located in Long Beach. This visit we stayed in the unit with a jacuzzi. Pretty nifty I'd say- however the bubbles system wasn't working. We stayed one night before leaving for a cruise. Seems to be a trend here. The shuttle service was one of the reasons we chose to stay here as opposed to downtown. And the price was great with a groupon. When we arrived at the airport and called for the shuttle we were told it wouldn't be available for hours. Here we go was my first thought! However they told us to take a cab to the hotel and they would take care of it. Very professional. We arrived several hours before check in and they got us into a room right away. Another wonderful exams of great customer service. Our room was freshly cleaned with a very strong air freshener. Had to open the window and run the fan to air it out. The room was nice. Showing some wear n tare. The chair was torn and the shower curtain in desperate need of replacement. Otherwise in good condition. The mattress was very comfortable and the sheets cozy. The only problem we had was with the wooden bed frame. There is not a lot of room to maneuver around the bed in the room. The bed frame extended a few inches past the mattress. My husband and I ran into it multiple times and both had bruises on our legs and knees. A few loud yells I'm sure were heard from our room. We took über downtown because the shuttle still was out. But did have hem pick us up. The driver was awesome. He was courteous and gave us suggestions of places to go. He also took us for a drive to show us more of the area. Very kind! The morning breakfast was your typical hotel free thing. No complaints. We sat out by the pool area and enjoyed the morning. The shuttle took us to the cruise terminal very quickly and we were off I would stay again for here again for the convenience and the customer service. Stayed here with the cruise and snooze to San Pedro. My only criticism were the beds, a full size bed for my husband and I made for a long night. Otherwise this place and staff were great. Rooms were updated, clean and the pool area was beautiful. The transportation was by far the biggest benefit. They transported us to and from the cruise terminal as well as to Seal Beach on our day of departure even though we weren't even staying there that night; we had a late flight. We had a very AMAZING stay! Everyone was so professional and kind. The room was super clean. We are very grateful for the early check in and the surprise that they gave me for my birthday. My kiddos enjoyed the heated pool at night. The next day we took advantage of the free shuttle and since it couldn't pick us up until later they gave us a late check out. The driver was very polite and he told us a little bit about the town since it was our first time there. He gave us a recommendation of where we should go and it was a good choice. The free breakfast they offer was very filling. They had a little bit of everything. We requested a microwave in our room so we had some of their free breakfast burritos in our room. Well, well, well, I think the mice will come out to tell. Okay I need to be brief as I am on work/vacation. We booked for the newly remodeled rooms which have hard wood floor and the modern orange furniture. Our first room #167 was cool but the the chair and couch was worn and gave me the ugh don't want to sit on that feeling. The lower level rooms are the remodeled rooms. In the higher 100's facing the parking lot..However thees rooms are used more ( families with kids and partying folks) and after a night of thin wall noise activity I asked to be moved. That's when I noticed they have even nicer remodeled rooms which are over by the pool 127,126, etc. To cut down on the shannigians just ask for a newly remolded rooms by the pool. Okay since I am on my way to Santa Monica let me make it plain. Breakfast: waffle, bananas, cheerios, cornflakes, o.j., coffee, milk, and toast with jellies. Hey if you hungry it will do. No fights at the waffle maker takes about 3 minutes! Pool area: stays open from 8am -10pm. Clean water and swanky music playing along with retro patio lounge furniture. Rooms: I think they should just remolded the hotel completely. However I understand saving the really nice hardwood floored remodeled rooms for paying a higher rate. BUT if that is the case all of the rooms should have great furniture in them! They seem to save the pool view rooms for quieter guest that want to sleep or be respectful while enjoying each other.....ump hmmm ....I mean time here! Yet, you can hear the swanky music playing through your closed window? I guess better than listening to the other guest. Cute refrigerator,make sure you turn up the cool setting. Shower has nice warm to hot water from an over head spout and free shower gel and shampoo. Shower gel didn't dry out my skin and had a fruity apple/pineapple smell. Towels and wash cloths were, clean and thick not flimsy like some towels. Good sized bathroom a mini safe was an extra surprise bonus. IF you wanna be trustful and leave something you might not mind losing. I locked up my perfume , house keys, and some cute inexpensive earrings. Cool flat screen t.v with great sound quality and no sticky substances on the remotes. Beds were clean, white sheets , lots of pillows, and firm. Again the rooms by the pool seem to be a slight upgrade to the remolded rooms as a whole. I had a cute blue pillow on my bed, no heavily soiled furniture like I did in the other remolded room facing the parking lot. I HAVE allergies and a high keen sense of smell so I could smell other peoples natural body scent on the beds sheet in room #167. It wasn't foul but didn't smell anything on the sheets by the pool. Maybe the double laundry them. Location not so great but there is free parking, breakfast, and free wi-fi. Visiting from Nor Cal so in general I was lost. However, driving into LA and popular areas was at least 20-28 miles away. Better not get sleepy on the way home. Wayne the front desk manager helped switch rooms and I paid a nice $516.28 for 4 nights a bookit.com deal was a little pricey for this place. After I changed rooms I felt a LITTLE better about the money I was spending BUT I usually stay at the Westin or a ,Hyatt when traveling. We are visiting and it is a Easter/ Spring Break weekend for my daughter and I so hotels booked fast. The Deli News is a great place for pizza/Italian food in the area. Get a bang for your buck and eat like a Queen/King. Dont bring home a big doggy bad fridge is on the compact side. FREE Wi-Fi and parking was cool. Finally answer 3 stars! $316.28 would have been a fair price for the place. Especially for the noise,location, and inconsistent decor. I could use the extra $200 for gas and other traveling expense. The stars were earned because, I booked for a room with two beds and got two rooms in one! I loved that. The during checking the receptionist was friendly and helpful. -Pool was great nice and warm water, kids liked it -with laundry room, have not used it yet but I will. -a few channels to watch, but with free wifi, who needs tv what I didn't like at all, and killed my good mood was that every morning no matter how early or late we got up to the breakfast area there wasn't enough or good food, cereal and coffee with some gooey bread. one morning we were lucky enough to get waffles and toast. Keep in mind I didn't actually stay here but I had relatives stay here while in town and I did go over and spend a little time in the room while I was there. First of all, they booked two rooms and for some reason, instead of giving them two rooms next to each other, one was upstairs and one was downstairs. Ok, fine. No biggie I guess. The second thing that turned me off was some of the other people that were staying there. Maybe they were having some deals at the time that were attracting cheapies but there were two rooms full of college kids smoking, burping, yelling, and drinking Coors Light with the doors open. Good times. They didn't have to call the management because they said they shut the doors after 10:00 but this probably would have been a problem if the rooms were next to theirs. I live in the neighborhood behind the hotel and more than once have groups of obnoxious drunks walked past my apartment, through the alley, and onto the hotel grounds. The third (and major) problem I had with them was the state of the carpet. My nieces took their shoes off and walked around the room for 5 minutes and the bottoms of their feet were BLACK. They were playing on the floor and their elbows and knees were black. SO GROSS! When was the last time the carpet was cleaned? YUCK! They said the breakfast was ok but not a lot of protein and a wedding party that was staying there cleaned it out so they ended up going across PCH to Denny's both mornings they were there. We absolutely loved the hotel!!!! The rooms were lovely. I preferred the double room set up (the bathroom area seemed more nicely set up), but with only a shower, we switched to the king room with jacuzzi tub! The staff was very nice, and both rooms were lovely. I think the double was better but the jacuzzi tub was to die for. :) The gigantic bed was perfect and comfortable. The pool area was just so nice!!! Great combination of shady areas and sunny areas. The pool was perfect for my 4 yr. old because he could walk in. I loved the 9 ft. deep end. My favorite part was the staff let us use the pool after we checked out and we used it! I think we'll be spending quite a few weekends there over the summer! Stayed here again for Special Olympics Summer Games, because we liked it so much last time. A lot of things were still great. The breakfast was good, the staff was friendly and accommodating. Didn't go swimming, but the pool looked nice and the cabanas looked like a good place to relax. The beds were comfortable and had lots of pillows. I really like the green bent of the hotel too. They try to be as environmentally sound as a hotel can be. And the shower gel (in a dispenser) smelled yummy. They still don't have signs stating that the water in the rooms is not free. And the housekeeping has definitely gone downhill. There was a stain that looked like blood on one of the bedspreads. There was mildew in the shower grout and one of our towels was stained too. I mentioned the bedspread stain and got a small discount. So I am torn. I really like the hotel and like supporting what seems to be a small business. And I really like that they try to be environmentally friendly. But mildew is icky. read more

Current Hotel best price you can find. Everything is local from food bars and the beach. They've remodeled the place it's very nice. The pool is the best! One thing I highly recommend is a room with a jacuzzi every relaxing I wouldn't hesitate going again and staying in for 3 days. read more

Nice little hotel/motel, booked online for 1 night stay (3 stars). Arrived very late, and the place was sold out, king rooms had been handed out. Friendly desk agent quickly offered a suite and his personal parking space right up front since it was a full house! Desk agent was so incredibly helpful, in spite of being quite busy for the late hour - impressive! (5 stars go out to him for his thoughtful and attentive nature!) Our suite was clean and comfortable. We came in late and left early, so we missed trying the pool and breakfast. read more

The pool area is beautiful and a great bonus to know there is a restaurant connected to the property. The room was very nice and had an expensive loft feel.
