If poker is not your thing then every Tuesday there is a pub quiz which is fairly well attended not to mention the beer is very good as well, the gantry offers a large selection of fine spirits and beers so there is lots of choice on offer. The cabin used to do great meals but all of a sudden they stopped and to be honest nobody knows why however I think the most money comes via the poker nights moreover if you are playing well on. Sunday it can last for hours on one occasion I played for seven hours and lost Every Saturday night is also very busy as they always have either live music or a DJ and every time I go there there is always a great atmosphere , the interior is very clean and tidy and the gents is spotless the staff also know there stuff as on more than one occasion I have had my tipple passed to me and I'm not a regular so all in all this is a great pub for regular entertainment and for me as a poker weirdo it's really my first choice pub for that and a nice glass or two of white wine , give it a try if in the area you won't be disappointed

However assuming it won't change massively, Franklyns is a pretty rubbish pub. I won't comment on the decor since I've sure it will look quite nice when it reopens. However previously it always had a problem with attracting some very young customers - young to the point were you wonder if they are quite old enough to be in there. The music is okay and the prices are relatively cheap. It's also really busy most weekends and quite busy during the week so someone must like it!

It's a small pub, but I thought it was really cosy and warm and I quite liked it! It's sort of an old mans pub, but the interior is quite contemporary, with bare stone walls and big plush couches, and a well populated darts board in the corner. It's got a couple of 'rooms' almost, with two seating areas away from the bar, and its also a sports bar, with large screens showing sky sports channels. Great wee atmosphere, and good for a drink after dinner in Riva!

As the name would suggest it's loaded with American style food, don't be down heartened though this is no run of the mill 'American diner' serving cheap hot dogs and yucky burgers from the cash and carry. The food from Nic's is tasty, well thought out and delicious. There are of course the likes of baked potatoes and sandwiches with lovely looking toppings to be enjoyed. My eyes however were very much glued to the Hot Dog menu where you can try such delights as the amazing Cheesy Pig Dog ( bacon and cheese) or the BBQ Dog (sweet fried onions, BBQ Sauce and dill pickle) or the very tempting Glasga Dog ( black Pudding and fried egg). What makes these dogs in my opinion the best take away dogs in Glasgow is that they fry off their dogs for a few minutes which makes them extra tasty. I've not tried the freshly made pancakes or waffles yet but they do come with some lovely looking toppings - the Banana Beast ( banana, maple, pecan nuts and ice cream) Peanut Butter Jelly Time (peanut butter and blackcurrant or strawberry jam) or the Sweet Porker Stack ( bacon and maple syrup) these are definitely next on my list to try from the menu. On my last visit I finally gave in to the cool looking doughnuts. These lovely little clouds of light dough are made in-house ensuring they are as fresh as they come. The base is so soft and flavoursome, the topping is a luscious thick layer of fondant sprinkled with a variety of American style toppings - Oreo, peanut butter cups, smarties, marshmallows......the list is endless. What really excited me tho was while chatting with the girls they announced that they were expecting their doughnut menus to arrive any minute. Hang on! Let's just think about that for a second........a menu......dedicated to doughnuts.......it's the stuff of dreams! Nic's is a great wee lunch spotwhere they use really good quality food and the girls who work there are all lovely and helpful when trying to make your selection....what's not to love about this place.

When you go in, it looks just like a normal deli... then you notice the amazing menu (taco bowls, proper dogs, "Triple Bypass" baguette etc.) and the cheeky bottle of Buckfast that's apparently used on Fridays to make some of their food a little more special. Going back to the food, it did take me a couple of minutes to choose what to have because EVERYTHING looked awesome. Even the SALADS!!! I was guided by the lovely staff who work there and plumped for the Taco bowl. A large, crispy tortilla shaped into a bowl stuffed with salad, guacamole, sour cream, PULLED PORK (this was my topping), covered with jack cheese and some Glasgow Megadeath chilli sauce. Great stuff. And for dessert you MUST get one of their special donuts... loads of flavours. Think Krispy Kreme but without the nasty aftertaste (you know what I mean!). If you've never been here, cancel all of your other plans and go here ASAP! You won't regret it...
