I made a grand entrance by falling on the floor either by slipping on something or a shoe malfunction but the owners & owners daughter were so quick to come over to me as I made a spectacle of myself, & were so kind, they picked me up & dusted me off and promptly gave me ice for my swollen hands. They couldn't do much for my bruised ego however but once we all decided on the 2 course between 2 and a bottle of wine, that helped me laugh of the embarrassment! Great specials by the way with lots to choose from. After living in the US and not getting the "British/Italian" version of lasagna at my disposal or prawn cocktail Marie Rose I knew exactly what I was having. Both were delicious! All six of us had incredible meals. The owners were witty & chatted with us. One graciously tried to take a group photo & failed, we asked the other owner who quickly said no no we are awful with cameras & phones I will get my daughter. We all laughed afterwards. The staff was great, we had a great night there. They put up with a bunch of 50 year olds hooting & hollering telling old childhood stories, although I suspect they enjoyed the banter. I've never been to any other Di Maggios, and I'm keen to try another to see if it can change my opinion on the company. I've been in this restaurant a few times when I was younger so I don't remember it much, but my parents never liked it. But I went in about 6 months ago with my friend Maria and both of us were so disappointed with the service we received. Over the course of the evening we were served by about 13 different staff members so we didn't actually ever know who our waiter was. They managed to get both our starter and main course orders incorrect, but we weren't offered any sort of consolation such as free desserts or a free drink, which is normal in a restaurant when they make mistakes regarding orders. The only reason I'm not giving this place one star is because, when they get it correct, the food is actually not bad. They have a delivery service which I'd use because I do like the food and wouldn't have to put up with the bad service, but I'd never go in the restaurant again.

We all just looked at it when the waiter put it down because the bacon looked as if it had not seen heat never mind being crispy. It was rectified immediately but how any chef/cook could put something that was not cooked out for a customer has obviously no pride in their work. Maybe he/she just didn't care. Who knows, we were not given an explanation. It kinda put us off so we skipped puds and left. I have eaten here a number of times but this time, well .... there was something not just quite right. The childrens' meals are a proper variety of good nutritional meals. The restaurant is based on the New York Italian diners that offer pizzas, pasta and burgers. ( there are a lot of other dishes too ). I like the comfortable booths and the decor. The walls are plastered with hundreds of black and white photos of old famous movie stars and baseball players from old New York. They play lots of old rock'n'roll tunes as well. They sell pre-prepared compilation CD's of all the music you here. ( bit pricey though ). This is a great place for popping into after the cinema, or if you have a big party, or if you're on a date, or even if you just fancy a good meal on your own.

It's cramped inside with a cold interior and average service. It also takes itself a bit too seriously I think, encouraging bookings even though it's never that busy. The food is good, but quite overpriced. I have only ever sampled the least Italian elements of the menu, to be fair, but no-one in my parties have ever complained to be honest. It's a good place that is tucked away, quite intimate and cosy in the right company, but it is quite expensive and the wait on the food is often unbearably long. Good, not great. Better for couples, given how cramped it is inside.

We were both quite hungry and looking forward to some Italian food! I had the scallops with Parma ham to start. This dish was delicious! The scallops were cooked to perfection and the crispy, salty ham complemented the sweet scallops perfectly. I loved the accompanying salad of spinach, tomato and Parmesan with balsamic dressing. For my main, I had the prawn and clam pappardelle. It was rich, full of flavour and very filling. The tomato sauce was delicious and the seafood was brilliant. We started off with mozzarella sticks, I can't remember what they called it but it was sticks of yummy battered cheese and dip, then I had the penne carbonara. You could choose the pasta you fancied, penne's one of my favourites. Then for a sweet I had a strawberry sundae, it finished off the meal perfectly. I would definitely come back here as the prices weren't too bad, the décor was smart, especially as it's still fresh and new and of course the food was delicious.
