Enough that I think I have a pretty good barometer for what is genuinely five-star and what is just marketed that way. Victoria Jungfrau in Interlaken is the real thing. What stood out wasn't one flashy moment. It was the consistency and attention to detail from every single member of staff I interacted with. That kind of alignment doesn't happen by accident. It reflects culture and leadership. There's something here that feels like old-school European excellence in hospitality. Service that is confident, calm, precise, and not overly theatrical. It feels intentional. Lara at reception was excellent. Professional, efficient, and warm without being overdone. Check-in was smooth and polished, but never stiff. Chantal at concierge was exceptional. She noticed me every time I walked into the hotel. Not occasionally. Every time. She remembered what she had arranged, followed up naturally, and clearly paid attention. That level of detail is rare, even at top-tier properties. It made a difference. I genuinely felt that she wanted my experience in Interlaken to be great, not just adequate. In a world where many luxury hotels rely on branding and design to carry the experience, Victoria Jungfrau delivers through people. That's harder to manufacture. And it shows.

Ruth and Othmar Suter own and operate this charming hotel. Their staff is also friendly and helpful. The location is perfect for Mürren, with sweeping views from the rooms and the open patio, where meals can be served. They have the towns only coin-operated laundry service, which is a big bonus for travelers coming from other places. This is open to the public, so sometimes there is a wait to use the machines. Some room packages come with free breakfast, which offers a delightful section of breads, cheeses, fresh fruit, and sliced deli meats. Anyone coming to the Bernese Oberland area should seriously consider a stay at the Hotel Bellevue in Mürren. You won't be disappointed!

Singers at a nearby restaurant serenaded every night for dinner. Horses and buggies were taking riders around the area. The stores were great for chocolate, watches, clothes, souvenirs, etc. The hourly church bells were charming. Every employee I encountered was friendly and helpful. Online reservations through Expedia and check-in were easy. The lobby is beautiful with a bar, lounging area, and even shopping. It feels like a casino. There are three elevators; I only had to wait once because of a large group that just arrived. I was in a single room with a nice bathroom (shower) and balcony. I would have liked fluffier pillows and one more towel plus washcloths for showering. I also made reservations to eat at their awesome restaurant (Top of the Met) with panoramic views and gourmet food. I wish I could get the recipe for their sauce that came with the roasted chicken. I could drink cups of it. Unfortunately I wasn't able to try out their sauna or fitness center. Next time!!

Smelled faintly of cigarette smoke (rooms are non-smoking, but they allow smoking on the balconies), but I just kept the window open and that helped. The room was clean and spacious with a beautiful view of the falls. Usually we don't like to eat at the hotels where we stay (unless we have to), but the restaurant here was top notch. Liked it so much we ate there 2 of the three nights we were in town. I had the deer both nights, absolutely scrumptious). Their pizzas seem popular, though we did not have one. Super conveniently located across the street from the train station and next to the cable car up to Murren and next to the Coop Grocery (easy to pick up snacks or a bottle of wine). Not for the faint of heart, though. Dragging our bags up the hill to the property was a job - thankfully we were up to it, but if you're booking keep your fitness level in mind (or maybe the hotel offers some sort of help? I didn't ask.) I would definitely recommend staying here. If ever back in Lauterbrunnen, I would stay again.

Breakfast was included and was excellent. Coffee and tea available 24/7 in the lobby. Staff super helpful. Would definitely stay again!

An exceptional experience. The ambiance, customer service, quality and dining far exceeded our…read moreexpectations and we look forward to staying at Sunstar, Grindelwald again. We purchased the Christmas package and stayed for four nights. It included a real Christmas tree in our room, meals, and an evening walk (torches and all with the hotel Operations Managers) to an authentic Suisse mountain cabin for drinks and appetizers. DINING: The hotel has two restaurants. One is buffet style and open for breakfast and dinner. The other restaurant is by reservation and has a cozy Swiss charm to it where we enjoyed a great fondue dinner. We expected to branch out and eat at another restaurant in town at least once, but the food at Sunstar was so good, we never ventured out. The Chef took great care in creating traditional Swiss and German dishes such as the traditional Swiss Christmas dinner of oil fondue when we dined Christmas Eve. The presentation was elegant with great variety. My family of meat eaters, vegetarians and pasta lovers were all satisfied. One can eat very healthy or indulge in gourmet creations from duck to spaetzle. Service was excellent. ROOMS: Our adult children stayed in the newly renovated rooms which were sleek and contemporary. Their headboards were backlit and shaped in the form of the Alps. We stayed on the other side of the hotel in the more traditional rooms which had a Swiss mountain charm which we really liked. It felt authentic and we were glad we paid extra for the suite which had a nice sitting area. Bathroom was huge and clean. We paid extra for the mountain views for both rooms and was worth every cent. It was incredible to wake up looking directly at the Alps - breathtaking. STAFF, MANAGEMENT & FRONT DESK: The new Operations Managers clearly have a five star luxury background and high standards. They are constantly seen throughout the hotel talking to guests making one feel welcomed, at home and very well cared for. They were always at the restaurant in the morning and evening greeting guests with a warm and genuine smile and conversation. We had drinks by the fire in the main lobby and played card games every night. Families opened their Christmas gifts in the lobby as well. The space is so huge and inviting with many little nooks to cozy up in that a lot of guests took advantage of the space. The bartenders were very attentive with drinks and snacks. We always had a lot of questions and the front desk was very gracious and helpful. I used the spa for a massage and the experience was excellent. Environment was calming and elegant. LOCATION: You can walk from the train station but we took a shuttle because of all our luggage. The location is great and you can easily walk to town. Lastly, we would like to mention some exceptional staff and say a special thank you for making our stay so wonderful: John Hewitt and Lukas, our waiters, Adrian Bolsmann, the head chef, Marius, at check in and the Operations Managers Cornelia and Marsell who were instrumental in our amazing experience. Thank you!!!!
