We arrived at the empty restaurant to find a small terrace and indoor section, furnished in a very German style. The view was breathtaking; the lake, mountains, and several little lake front towns were all visible from both the indoor windows and outdoor terrace. My mom, sister, and I shared the fondue, raclette, and hash browns, while my dad tried the local sausage. All dishes were cooked to order by the only waitress herself, and the portions were quite large. Excellent meal, the very best I've had while staying in Switzerland! Oh my, if you have had cheese fondue at one of those chain places in the US, it has absolutely nothing on this! This is real cheese folks....and as it cooks down, the crusty bottom layer is such a treat, that somehow you will manage to finish it even after insisting you cannot eat another bite of cheese! The bread served with the fondue is wonderful as well; fresh and crusty, with sunflower seeds baked in. The salads that come with the fondue were wonderful too. The vegetables were fresh, and the dressing clearly house made. Service was fabulous! Our server was delightful, and even offered to bring us tap water along with our beer and wine which is almost unheard of most places in Europe. The atmosphere was cozy and comfortable. I love the fact that the trail leads you directly behind the waterfall. It's so cool & refreshing up there. It's totally worth visiting on a sunny or rainy day. There's a café on the hotel terrace, as well as an indoor lounge with a restaurant. Many people were on the terrace enjoying a snack while viewing the waterfall and lake. We walked around the historical rooms and lounge of the hotel. It truly is a step back into the late 19th century. It was also cool to see the Giessbach funicular car traveling up the track from Lake Brienz. It's the oldest abt switch railway design dating back to 1879. Neat! I'd say it's worth a visit for the Nature Park. There are so many different trails that lead you to Iseltwald, Schweibenalp, Axalp, Brienz, and Bramisegg from the park. It's such a scenic drive up there as well. I can only imagine how beautiful it must be when viewing it all from a ferry on Lake Brienz. We enjoyed our visit here. It was peaceful & relaxing.

If you are looking for an experience with your hotel stay, this is the place for it. The atmosphere is breathtaking. Listen to some live piano music while sipping on a cocktail in the lounge and taking in views everywhere you look with a waterfall on one side and the magnificent Lake Brienz on the other. During the day you'll see a trolley that transports guests up and down to a ferry on the lake. My only note is that the comfort factor may not be quite as high as some other places, but the charm more than makes up for it. The buffet breakfast was what dreams are made of. Cheeses from local pastures, honey straight off the comb, fresh pastries, the best coffee and espresso--and that's just a few of my favorites. You also have your pick of fresh fruit, cereals, pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, etc.
