    tea from our balcony

My husband and I researched Switzerland for months since we knew we wanted to go to Jungfraujoch and decided to stop in Lauderbrunnen. This hotel was rated one of the highest out of all of them so we opted for this. They didn't take payments online but they were able to arrange that with us ahead of time since we didn't want to carry so much cash with us while traveling. Angie was very helpful and we felt at ease that we didn't have to carry so many euros to pay them. We opted for the room with the balcony and view of the waterfall and we got exactly that! The room inside wasn't much to care for, but we got our own bathroom and we were on the family floor so that's all I can ask for. However, once we open the blinds every morning, we were greeted with the beautiful waterfall, it was nice. Breakfast was nice and lots of options to feed the kids. They even dyed the eggs which made it a lot more fun for the kids to eat hard boiled eggs. On our last day, Angie realized we were in room 33, and she apologized that they ever put us in that room with 4 people, but we told them it was fine. I guess the worker that night that checked us in only saw one of our kids so he figured that room was fine. It was more than fine with us, we enjoyed the free tea and coffee everyday on our balcony, it's more than we can ask for. I love it. I would stay at this exact place again if we ever come back, which, knowing my husband, we will.

One of our favorite things about our recent European vacation was staying at this hotel. The location is sublime...views that will make you want to sit in the garden and weep with joy. The hotel is old and creaky in just the right areas, but the rooms are well renovated and extremely comfortable. There are spacious common areas that are often filled with friendly people...a great place to make new friends. The breakfast room is all windows to take in the view of Staubbach Falls, and the breakfast (included in the price) is generous and delicious. Free, safe parking is plentiful, and the wi-fi is free and strong. The staff here are incredibly friendly and helpful (Angie, the manager, is an angel!), and they can assist you in planning a day in the region. I do not have a single complaint about this fantastic place. Here is a tip: the south-facing balcony rooms cost quite a bit more, and if you can afford it, I'm sure waking up to the amazing view of the falls is a nice luxury. However, each floor has a public south-facing balcony that any guest can use; there is also the breakfast room and the gardens that have the same view, so you don't need to spend the extra money to take it all in. Ask instead for an east-facing room. They are cheaper, and they still have a nice view of the mountains and of the river running right by the hotel. We loved our valley view and threw open all the windows at night to take in the wonderful air and the sound of the river rushing by...very soothing.

Hotel Staubbach is a short 5 minute walk down the main street from the train station in Lauterbrunnen. The rooms here are incredibly quaint and cozy, with amazing views of the Lauterbrunnen valley. The breakfast downstairs is delicious and like everywhere in this hotel, has amazing views. There is free internet, no passwords/log-ins needed, computers to use, chess in the lounge room, as well as books and a tv. The staff here is incredibly friendly. I would recommend staying here if you are in the Berner Oberland region.

This charming hotel is worth the money for the view alone. The south-facing rooms have a beautiful view of Staubbach Falls and a small balcony with a table and two chairs to enjoy the mountain air, listen to the bells on the cows and even watch a few BASE jumpers make their way down into the valley. The hotel staff was extremely helpful in choosing restaurants and timing the train up to Jungfrau for hiking days. The location is about a 10-minute walk to the train station, and along the way there are several restaurants and a small grocery store. The rooms themselves are simple and a little older (also no TV) but very clean and there is great Wifi. There is a very small, slow elevator available, so we took the stairs unless we were carrying luggage. They have a small kitchen available for guests to warm up food and a fridge for drinks. The breakfast here (included in the reservation) had a great variety of options including everything from eggs and bacon to cold cured meats and cheeses. Try the Birchemuesli - a mix of fruits (cherries were in season when we went), muesli and yogurt!

We stayed in this lovely hotel in Lauterbrunnen in early March. The rooms were charming and unique,…read moreso unlike the large chain hotels. It was clean and the bedding was SO comfortable! Our room had a good sized balcony with table and chair and absolutely breathtaking views of the mountains. The location is excellent, just a few minutes walk to the train station as well as the gondola to ride up the mountain. Also close to shopping at three coop store. Breakfast was included and was excellent. Coffee and tea available 24/7 in the lobby. Staff super helpful. Would definitely stay again!

Loved our stay at this property in Lauterbrunnen. Not sure how/why, but we ended up with the 007…read more(James Bond) suite. Smelled faintly of cigarette smoke (rooms are non-smoking, but they allow smoking on the balconies), but I just kept the window open and that helped. The room was clean and spacious with a beautiful view of the falls. Usually we don't like to eat at the hotels where we stay (unless we have to), but the restaurant here was top notch. Liked it so much we ate there 2 of the three nights we were in town. I had the deer both nights, absolutely scrumptious). Their pizzas seem popular, though we did not have one. Super conveniently located across the street from the train station and next to the cable car up to Murren and next to the Coop Grocery (easy to pick up snacks or a bottle of wine). Not for the faint of heart, though. Dragging our bags up the hill to the property was a job - thankfully we were up to it, but if you're booking keep your fitness level in mind (or maybe the hotel offers some sort of help? I didn't ask.) I would definitely recommend staying here. If ever back in Lauterbrunnen, I would stay again.
