Stayed here 3/14/2020. I was celebrating one year new life journey anniversary. I could not have picked a better place. The rooms were great and staff was friendly. The architecture and history of Hotel is not to be missed. The third floor on south wing has interesting artifacts and descriptions of items. The Spruce Farm and Fish Restaurant was wonderful. 1. First, I travelled globally for business for over 30 years. I've stayed in many of the better and best hotels in NYC, Wash., D.C., San Francisco, Boston, LA, Florida, Texas, Mexico City, London, Paris, Beijing -- you get the idea. I've also said in some marginal places. I know my hospitality. The Boulderado ranks among the worst on delivering good hospitality. I stayed in a youth hostel in China that cared more. The rooms are furnished in a failed attempt at antique mall chic. The staff is pretentious in the worst way. My room was so small that when I entered the door to the room banged against the open bathroom door. On one side, the bed was 15" from the window drapes and on the other less than 12" to a small chair (the ONLY chair) that I could not imagine how one could sit in. 2. When you arrive, they tell you in the interest of being green, of which I'm all in favor, they won't clean your room unless you ask. That's fine. What they mean is that they didn't bother to thoroughly clean before you arrived. There were ants crawling around on the bathroom floor and into the carpeted area of the room where I couldn't trace their origin. Where there are friendly conditions for ants, bed bugs and mice can't be far behind. I didn't see any of those, but you have to wonder, and when you wonder, it just ruins your stay. 3. When you arrive, with a cutesy sort of intro, they say you can ride in their antique elevator. What they mean is that they don't have a full service elevator to get you to your top floor room. I'm 70, and I saw/helped folks older than I struggling up those stairs because they didn't want to wait for the tiny, old elevator. That's embarrassing for any hotel and there should be a warning in case you have knee, hip or oxygen issues. 4. As I said, this sort of experience ruins your stay. Since the mid-90s, I've stayed at the Boulderado half a dozen times, as well as other hotels and private rentals in Boulder on many more occasions. The Boulderado has really gone downhill but, so has Boulder. Pearl Street is a theme park version of its former self, with many vacancy signs in boarded windows. It lacks the raw vibrance it used to have. Touring around my old haunts in Boulder I saw an uncomfortable number of for sale signs in yards. Are people getting out while they can? I can't imagine returning myself. Thanks Boulderado. This one's on you. read more

Stayed here for a third time - first time was in the original section, 2nd and 3rd times were in the newer section across the bridgeway. Quite comfortable and quiet. But he decor was more mid-priced hotel. IT works, just not quite the same. The advantage of that side is that it is quieter. And the room was quite large. Still my favorite in the area. read more

I had a great stay here! I love places with character, coupled with comfort and Hotel Boulderado had both. My room was spacious and had everything I needed - great big bed, good desk, plenty of places to plug in my devices, a comfy bathroom, tons of counter space in the bathroom and great aveda products. You can grab a great latte ifrom Spruce's lobby coffee bar and there are a lot of coaches and chairs in the lobby where you can read or work. I was in town for an event which happened to have a gathering at License No. 1 in their basement, and that place is awesome!! All kinds of cool nooks and crannies to sit with different groups and have great conversation. The location is very central. Easy to walk to Pearl St. (1 block away) for work, food and shopping. read more

Historic hotel! This hotel was built back in early 1909 and the hotel has tried to keep the historical look and feel. If you are young and have young children, I would not recommend this place. Pros: Low price (paid $149 for one night stay). Feels like you are going back in time. This hotel is right next to a vibrant outdoor shopping center. Hotel is clean, up kept, friendly staff. Good restaurants with lots of food options. I personally loved the downstairs area and the staircase, gives me a glimpse into history. Cons: If you are young or have children, this might not be the hotel for you. The walls, ceiling, bathrooms, bed head board, carpet, windows, tables and chairs are very old but that's what the hotels management want. They want to take you back in time (this may not be negative depending on your perspective and depending on when you were born). I probably wouldn't go back to this hotel but it is a hotel you must stay at least once, especially if you're going to visit Boulder CO. read more

So this is my second time staying at the boulderado. Its a turn of the century hotel so it has that whole "the shining" feel to it. I picked this place on the advice of a friend and it's been pretty sweet. here's the best parts pros- -you really cant beat the location - its right in the downtown area so theres lots of great food/shopping/bars hell theres even a strip club a block and a half from this spot. -It has a little divey hipster bar downstairs called the catacombs thats pretty awesome and has a great waitstafff. -pretty sweet decor - the glass ceiling was pretty impressive and im a sucker for dark wood. -valet is 10 bucks a day... pretty cheap - remember to duke them out neutrals- -service -it's good but then again your paying for it - roughly 140-190 a night. damn right i expect clean sheets and someone to get the door for me. con's -"q's" restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. the breakfast was kinda shoddy. i'd rather get the cafeteria at work or micky d's. -no drug stores nearby -the f-ing design - granted it was opened in 1908 - so the design of the building is kinda squirrely. for instance to get to my room from the front i have to go up a flight of stairs -walk to another building accross the sky bridge - then go up either stairs or an elevator. p.s. here's a little pro tip thats handy especially if your a smoker - if you want to grab a quick cig - take the elevators to the parking level. if your just walking around downtown - come to the alley and take the elevator straight up to your room without navigating the annoying front door. read more

Would give 3.5 stars if I was able to. Great looking hotel from the outside. Really good location, walking distance to the main streets in Boulder. I think what impressed me most was the staff. Super friendly and great service. Everyone had smiles on their faces and seemed to all be enjoying their jobs which was refreshing to see! The lobby and second floor interior are pretty fabulous old world splendour is how I would describe it. Also a great touch is the old elevator which is manned by a member of staff! Long trek to the room and confusing to me. Room was clean and comfortable. Not really the style that I like a little bit contrived with faux antique looking furniture but as I said clean and comfy. The lights by the side of the bed were flickering constantly which was a little annoying until I turned them off. On the whole very enjoyable and I would recommend for anyone staying in Boulder! read more

Let me start off by saying this hotel should have nothing but five stars for reviews. I noticed that there was some negative reviews on yelp about this hotel so I had some reservations when me and my wife decided to spend our honeymoon there and find out the hotel, the staff, the food everything was amazing place is beautiful the rooms are clean the restaurants are awesome and the customer service again was amazing. I feel the reviews are negative because well they're in Boulder and Boulder has some very snobby people so stay at this hotel. Ignore all the negative reviews this place rocked. read more

WOW! Gorgeous, old hotel with tons of charm. It keeps the style from when it was built and is worth a stay. Our room was huge, light, bright with wonderful accents and small courtesies that make a hotel stay more lovely. Real coffee mugs, little chocolates, fresh flowers, old fashioned headboards and so much more. Take a walk through and simply enjoy all the beauty of this old hotel! read more

I (typically) really enjoy staying in this gem. There is so much here to love, including a beautiful, wonderful historic setting, a great location and a fabulous restaurant. This time around, there was a constant smell of marijuana, a visit by the cops, lots of noise (why would they put the few of us staying here in the same area?) and a weird guy named Dan in the combined restaurant --who was anything but hospitable (he called us "crazy" for some unknown, uncalled for reason, without apology). I am always happy to reward those of us playing up esp during COVID, but I worry here, now, that folks are playing down. Hmmm... Hope I can return and experience the superior service I've come to associate with the Hotel Boulderado. read more

We stayed here door almost a week and from the first minute to the last we were greeted by the most helpful, nice, personable staff members we have ever run into. Consistent quality people! Despite food allergies too numerous to list, the chef prepared special off the menu dishes at no extra charge. Thanks chef Chris! We stayed in the historic part of the hotel and it was very nice. Art deco furnishings were a nice touch! The hotel location is wonderful and you can walk anywhere easily. The lobby is very old time decor and it's just fantastic! There are some very positive things about this hotel. The place (old part) is absolutely historic and beautiful and the location is right in the middle of Boulder. 3 restaurants/bars are very nice. New part (the addition) is far less appealing-frankly, feels outdated and dirty. We had a room and the person above had her kids jumping off the bed and literally shaking the floor. Management did absolutely nothing. We did get another (worse) room but had to change rooms ourselves. Overall, a great place if you get a nice room in the historic part. Otherwise, I'd go elsewhere. read more

I was looking for a charming, comfy getaway close to home and I decided to check out the Boulderado. What a gem!! The historical magic is over the top, the food is delicious, and the service is amazing (even in the midst of the pandemic). Highly recommended. I'll definitely be back! read more

There is a lot to like about the Hotel Boulderado. Lots of old, antique charm and lots of restaurants to choose from (all of which are great.) That being said, this hotel and the lobby area especially, feel so old and underwhelming. There is SO much potential at the Hotel Boulderado to have a booming and bustling lobby/bar, and instead you get an old looking area with no energy or liveliness. They just performed a renovation, and honestly, it was super sub-par. I can't picture anyone under the age of 65 hanging out here, grabbing a drink before dinner or making it any sort of a destination. You have a GREAT Corner Bar, License #1 (basement bar) and Spruce Farm and Fish all surrounding a very mis-used space. For instance, there is a stunning ceiling and mezzanine area that has NOTHING going on currently. They should consider putting a small cocktail bar on the second floor and have high tops surrounding the balcony. More live music too! The new area they made to be a co-working space in the lobby is a totally joke and misuse of space - why not make that a little expresso bar? During the renovation, they plastered signs eluding to the fact that a Boxcar coffee shop was coming to the lobby (people were jazzed) and instead, once opened, I come to find they are just selling boxcar coffee at the bar - what a tease! Hotel itself is fine if you like the antique/historical feeling. The rooms are really authentic (small furniture, tons of wallpaper) - I just think they have so many missed opportunities when it comes to the lobby. You can't beat the location of the Hotel Boulderado, and I just find that it's sleepy and a bit boring. The new "modern" furniture in the lobby was not a big enough facelift (hardly noticeable.) I was just at the Elizabeth Hotel in Fort Collins and was blown away.... I feel like places like the St Julien and Hotel Boulderado need to step up their hospitality game now, BIG TIME. Hope to see some improvements here in the coming years that will make the under 65 crowd want to hang out here on a Friday/Saturday night. Until then... (yawn) read more

I recently visited the Hotel Boulderado. We did not stay at the hotel but stopped in several times. We had drinks and dinner one night in the Bar. The place was spotless. The food was excellent. The service and friendliness top notch. Could not have been better. Very well set up for Covid 19 social distancing, too. After our time in the bar and as we were walking through the lobby, a manager just approached us, having heard us discussing the haunted vintage Otis elevation and offered us a ride. After this, he encouraged us to go downstairs to the currently closed "Speakeasy" bar to just look around. It was empty except for us, but completely lit and we could stay as and explore as long as we liked. It was real creepy fun and very nice of them to allow this. A highlight of our trip. Don't miss this place if you visit Boulder, Colorado. read more

David the General Manager, Keenan the server with the crab cakes, Sarah, and Mikey at the bar were all INCREDIBLE!! This event for the YELP ELITE TOUR EL' BOULDERADO was magnificent!! Be cautious that street parking is a nightmare, and it mostly offers valet or street at the neighborhood parking nearby. I felt like it was 1910, we had a wonderful, romantic experience here. My friend absolutely was glad I had brought her here. We got complimentary cocktails, drinks and small samples by the servers walking around. Lots of friendly faces, we had some small plates served on the second floor. We heard lovely piano music, and felt sensual at the soft and mellow melodies. We fell in love with the posh and Victorian style of the fabrics, wall, and lights. The elevators were functioning like in the old n' days omg. The tall black girl with the short dreads and piercing was gorgeous and very accommodating at the elevator. Mostly located at a snack bar in the first level. The stairs were even elegant, the rooms itself were lovely as heck. They had a full room, bathroom, mirror set up, and a small living room. WHAT THE HECK, MY STAYS EVERYWHERE ARE NOT A EXPANDED as this room!!! I still very much wished I had won a night to stay here. It's absolutely wonderful and soothing. They just recently put moolah to do some serious renovations, and I totally think it pulled off well. This is stunning, and very historical. There are supposedly haunted stories, but this hotel is too beautiful to be frightened by petty myths and legends. I think the small plates served at the actual event were wonderful and served in a small stale boat that was not a plate actually, but a decoration. We had red olives, yellow hummus, red pesto, crackers and bread. There was delicate mushrooms, and cheeses. We heard a toast, and soon rushed onto the grand tour. The tour was beautiful and amazing. It was very lovely and we had heard lots of valuable information from the host herself. We finally, at the end of the night went into an exclusive mini bar underground, I thought it was wonderful. I'll go four stars on the Boulderado. A very nice, homey and historic 1908 hotel with most amenities one would desire. The rooms are nicely appointed for the period and the staff is just delightful. Spruce restaurant on the first floor serves up every meal with excellence. Really really good but just a hair short of five star level. I am a profound foodie and a few things just were sub-perfect. Store bought hollandaise on the eggs benedicts, bland mignonette with the oysters, v-e-r-y bitter espresso and a few other minor issues. There is a huge historic bar downstairs as well as another corner bar on the lobby level with lite bites offered. Botton line is I will go back without hesitation. The overall experience in the heart of downtown Boulder next to Pearl Street is one to enjoy. Cheers! read more

Well-run historic hotel in a great location in Boulder. Staff is great, rooms are nice, and the hotel is cool -- even for someone like myself who isn't into "old things". Great coffee/breakfast/drinks spot downstairs; limited parking, so you have to valet in and out every time -- but $20/day allows unlimited in and out access via valet. Two thumbs up. read more

I use to work at Spruce Farm & Fish much to my dismay they let me go even though I had a transportation issue. Fast forward it's been years since that happened the Food and staff are always top notch,management on the other hand is quite different. I went there on Christmas expecting to run into nobody I remember and it was late. I was having a great time until Alex the old pastry chef now GM showed up. Much to my dismay she accused me of suing the Food and beverage director twice. She unceremoniously told me to leave and never come back or she would call the police. I guess management at the Hotel Boulderado or Spruce Farm & Fish have never heard of forgiveness at Christmas. You can ask J.S. but she is not with us anymore! read more

Was given a room on a very noisy corner in the new building as far, far, far down the most remote and dark hallway as one can get.

We live in Longmont. Every year from the first of June - about July 15th, neighbors set off LOUD fireworks. From about 2 p.m. until 2 .m. The police do drive-throughs. The noise stops for 15 min. then on again. So I was at my limit. About to go all Sam Jackson on somebody. Made a reservation online (we lived in Boulder for 20 years but in 1999 could not afford to buy a home there. Bought a "ticky tacky" viny home in East L'mont). So we love the Boulderado for Special occasions. Got there, Shaking. Room was GORGEOUS. And most importantly, QUIET. I had a long shower, hot water a-plenty. Lay down. Fell asleep in less than 10 min. A miracle. I have suffered from severe insomnia since I was an infant (according to my harried parents). Woke up Refreshed at 6:00 a.m. Lovely bath. Lay down, reading. Went for a long, heavenly walk in the dawn of Boulder. Took good photos. Delicoso breakfast. I was one of two people in the Spruce room. Fantastic, attentive server and hostess. (they are very clean due to covid19) Masks are Required if not eating. More time in my Quiet, lovely room (412) the elevator was broken when I arrived 9:30 p.m. Our gym (Planet Fitness closed due to covid) So I got my Stairmaster work out! Yes! The venerable Hotel Boulderado still stands mighty as a stellar Boulder structure.. However, customer service, which was one of this hotel's strong suits, appears to have fallen by the wayside... The rooms, the lobby, and the housekeeping staff were all world class.. The front desk staff and room service staff were seemingly stretched thin on Christmas Eve day and were dis- courteous to guests and guest's visitors.. Christmas is an important season for the hotel... There is no reason for staff to treat guests rudely, especially when the guests themselves are not being rude. I love this hotel and hope management is willing to take a look at this issue. Thank you. read more

Meh... first off, the "welcome committee" (front desk personnel) have zero personality and there wasn't a "hello" or "welcome" of any kind. The ghostly young blonde chick was just that. The room was just ok. Only one bar of soap between the shower and sink area and the coffee maker that lives on the bathroom counter (wtf), worked all of one time. They use real mugs, so wash them before you use them. Housekeeping is not allowed in the rooms unless you flip the green sign, because of COVID, but not a person in the planet of Boulder, Colorado was wearing a mask. The walk to my room was just nuts. I had to drag my bags up the stairs to the 2nd floor because the ghostly desk girl neglected to mention they had an old timey elevator that had to be manned by someone from the front desk, only when you rang the bell. I guess she didn't feel like walking the 10 feet. Anyway, I dragged the bags up to the second floor and then had to walk the hallway to this skywalk that has an incline to the the other side of the hotel. Ridiculous. Again, not impressed with the hotel itself. What they did get right are the restaurants connected to it."Corner Bar" and "Spruce Farm & Fish" were pretty damn good with great staff working both establishments, so there's a good chance you'll see the same waiter or two . Very attentive, although I've at both. I read some reviews that claimed they had bad waitstaff, but my experience at both were awesome. Seriously. Maddox was especially cool and funny af. All in all, this hotel was a bit too quirky for me, but I'd definitely hit up those restaurants again. read more

I only give it 4 stars since they have very limited elevator service- original antique elevator must be operated by staff only. We were on the 4th floor. The climb got old very quick. Reviewing my first elite event, and what an event it was. The first thing I remember was walking into the main area and looking up at the remarkable stained glass ceiling. The hotel has tons of history, and if you're a history buff... they make it easy for you. All you have to do is just walk around the main area or up and down the hallways and you can read the history on all the plaques. My understanding is that the hotel just went thru a remodel and I think they did an outstanding job. They did a great job on the second floor, really opened it up to let tons of natural light flow through the area. The space can be used for wedding events, graduations or parties of any kind. Can also be used for business purposes (meetings or team building events). The GM David was very polite, outgoing and knowledgeable about all aspects of the hotel. I spent some time talking with him and he really helped me understand the great history of the hotel. The executive chef really did an awesome job with all the food tastings...everything was perfectly seasoned and tasted really good. My favorite was the fish and sweet potato chips, followed closely by the duck quesadillas. Too wrap up the evening and would have to say one of my favorite parts of the event was License no. 1. A very cool speak easy style bar with all the old school style drinks. I had a Manhattan and it was delicious. Although we didn't get a chance to view any of the rooms beaches they were all sold out (a good problem to have), I think I would def stay at the hotel for a long weekend in Boulder. read more

Overnight stay for my birthday. Dani at front desk and Camille Burner were exceptionally cheerful and helpful and gracious and went over and above to accommodate us. Valets were super nice! The hotel was beautiful and our room was spacious and lovely on 5th floor. Bed extremely comfy. Jazz trio in lobby on arrival was very nice! The history in the hotel was very interesting to learn about. The old original elevator was a total treat. Spruce Farm & Fish restaurant was lovely. Oysters were too small not "plump" as menu indicated, but delish. Crab cakes were excellent as was calamari. Love the wine list. Breakfast was delicious...Crab and asparagus eggs Benedict great! Fosters French toast was so tasty. Can't wait to visit again soon. read more

The more I stay elsewhere the more I wish I were at the Boulderado. For me it's five stars. Everything mentioned in other reviews (nostalgia of the decor, history, lobby, food/cocktails) is on point. I don't mind the nature of the beast - "manned" elevator, thinner walls, noise from activity. To me it's part of the charm. If you won't like those things then stay somewhere else in Boulder. That's what I'm doing this weekend to appease my wanderlust and I wish I would have trusted my instinct. The grass is t always better, people. read more

The Yelp event at the Boulderado last night was lovely. My boyfriend and I work in Boulder but live in Denver, so this was a perfect excuse to come home later than usual and miss traffic! I had been to the Boulderado when I was in college at CU a few years ago, once to hangout after a Boulder Theater concert and another time to have dinner at the Corner Bar. Needless to say, I was super excited to return. We were greeted at the front entrance and told about some awesome deals the Boulderado is doing in June, like buy one, get one free brunch at Spruce Farm & Fish, $5 mules and martinis at the Corner Bar, free music on Mondays from 5-8 on the patio, and much more. We can't wait to head in for brunch sometime soon. The evening started out with cocktails and appetizers in the newly-renovated lobby. I started with the Spruce Martini and my boyfriend with the Boulder Mule. Both were tasty, though I had to make my martini dirty because I always forget I don't like non-dirty martinis. Servers were bringing around various small bites, such as duck quesadillas, crab cakes, fish and chips, and delicious hummus. My favorite was the crab cake.. It was seriously amazing! The hotel also had raffle prizes and my boyfriend won a free night at the hotel. We are sooo excited to return and spend a night in Boulder like the old times! The renovations are great-- they still have an "older" flavor, but are modern in reality. The old-times vibes are kept up with modern age comfort. Next, we were led upstairs to have a charcuterie platter and some delicious spreads (olive tapenade, pickled peppers, etc.). We enjoyed live piano music as well and checked out the second level above the lobby. Then we were taken on a tour of the hotel and event center, which was very informative. I had never seen the patio before, which is a lovely spot to hangout in during the summer. Lastly, we finished off our evening at License No. 1, a speakeasy-like bar in the basement of the hotel. Now this is where I was like WOAH. License No. 1 is the former Catacombs bar, where I literally went every week in college. I was not only taken back in time (1920s wise, back to the prohibition era with the speakeasy-style of the bar), but was taken literally back in my own time of life (back to Catacombs!). The new style of the bar is lovely and the Boulderado has obviously changed the spot for the better, but what is cooler than hanging out at one of your old college bars?! Great vibes. I will definitely be back to the Boulderado soon-- whether it be for buy one, get one brunch or for our free night :) read more

A perfect experience. They made staying in a strange city at a strange place very nice indeed. Room was very nice. Large. Extra sitting area. We had a clear view of the Flatiron Mountains. The staff is just delightful. Lot of young folks but well trained to be very helpful. For the older part of the hotel, there is a 100 year old elevator that's still in great condition. It requires an operator. We got to know the staff in one minute increments as they shuttled us up to the fifth floor. We would not imagine staying any place else when visiting Boulder. booked a flight through Alaska Airlines and booked a room through Alaska's "concierge" service. - Well - Alaska cancelled the flight and I tried to cancel the reservation - the hotel reservation person said the hotel would to refund my reservation if the third party booking service said it was fine - and asked for and received confirmation of my flight cancellation. Alaska concierge now informs me the that hotel is NOT refunding my reservation because of its "Policy". I consider this to be dishonest and disingenuous.
