Our waitress was good at checking on but giving us time to review the menu or chat throughoit or dining experience. They have a bunch of good menu options to choose from. This time I went with the mac and cheese as my app, then the Fried Chicken Sandwich with Hot Honey sauce and sweet potato fries as my entree. Both were great portion sizes, flavorful and satisfying. I would come back again to try some other things on their menu.

I was with two other people, and we ordered several different things. We tried the cheesesteak spring rolls, but they did not have much flavor. They could have used more seasoning, and the outside could have been hotter and crispier. They also ordered the jalapeño cornbread. They said it was more sweet than savory and they could not taste any jalapeño in it. I tried the deviled eggs again, and they were uneventful. They simply did not do anything for my taste buds. I added a little hot sauce, which made them slightly better. The mini pierogies were too greasy for me. They came with an aioli type of sauce, but I prefer my pierogies with sour cream. The sauce they provided did not add much flavor or improve the dish. One person ordered chicken fried chicken without the gravy, along with grits and eggs. They said their food was good. The other person ordered one of the specialty burgers topped with turkey bacon , pimento cheese, and other ingredients. They only took a couple of bites. I am not sure whether they disliked the taste or whether it was because the burger was very messy with all the cheese. Overall, I gave this restaurant a second try and sampled several different dishes, but the food is still not doing it for me. I know taste is personal, so if you have visited and loved this place, I would honestly like to know what you ordered and what you recommend.

By comparison, the new one is much better and much more fitting, while still being moderately loud but not earsplitting, presumably due to both the ceilings being a lot higher and the tables being more spaced apart. It's also a lot brighter, with plenty of mirrors on the wall and larger tables. As mentioned by most others, the portions here are rather massive for NYC, even in comparison to some diners and delicatessens, which makes the prices pretty reasonable. Our large group went here for something I rarely do: brunch. The servers were reasonably overwhelmed, but still friendly. Knowing how big the portions are, I only ordered the $22 Spicy Chicken Sandwich, which is typically served with pepper jack cheese, crispy onions, and hot sour pickles on a home-baked brioche bun. I did something I rarely do, which was ask for a substitution. In this case, it was cheddar instead of pepper jack, and it was obliged. The sandwich was quite large and a bit difficult to pick up, as it was pretty messy, but the flavor was nice. The chicken was juicy, the batter was pretty light, and there was a load of crispy onions. The pickles added a bit of sour crunch and a bit of heat, and the bun did just well enough to keep it all together. Overall, it was tasty. In terms of other dishes, there were a ton. I had one of the many tasty Deviled Eggs for $15, served with pickled mustard seed, smoked paprika, and pickle chips. From the same appetizer section, I particularly enjoyed the $13 Okra & Chilies, made from smoked & pickled okra, red pepper flakes, and scallion. I liked the smokiness, and the okra had some good grill marks, with this being the lightest dish on the table, outside of the Pickle Sampler someone else got. If you're looking to have a heart attack, I would order the decent $19 Poutine. Featuring fries smothered in brown gravy, cheese, and a hollandaise drizzle, I would compare it more to disco fries or other forms of loaded fries. This was due to the lack of cheese curds and the style of gravy. Outside of the comically massive portion, it's fine. In terms of other mains, a few had the two types of Smothered Chicken, either with sausage or mushrooms, for $24. Someone else ordered the non-spicy version of the same sandwich I got. Finally, another got the gigantic $24 Chicken & Waffles, consisting of buttermilk fried chicken, a golden waffle, house maple butter, and powdered sugar. There was also another entree, but I don't remember the details. I preferred this experience a lot more than the previous time and would recommend them for brunch, at least. Just come very hungry.

Staff are super friendly. Our waiter was very accommodating and helpful. They were out of many signature drinks, which was disappointing. However, they made a killer espresso martini. Fried pickles for appetizer were just OK. Nothing to write home about I'd skip next time. Mike's hot honey carrots with yogurt for appetizer were absolutely incredible. I could eat this for the whole meal and be happy. The recommended $39 bbq ribs were dry, old, fatty and meh. Skip and get the brisket, which was incredibly tender and flavorful. $44 BBQ sampler platter was the way to go. You get to try many different kinds of meat and the portion is perfect. It can even be shared between two people. Ribs were disappointing, spicy sausage was surprisingly amazing, brisket was fantastic, and chicken was the star of the show. I've never been a fan of chicken, but this chicken was next level. The meat was so flavorful, tender and juicy. Still dreaming of the chicken and will return for it anytime. You must try it--you'll thank me later. Sides of garlic, broccoli, sweet potato fries, and potato salad were surprisingly great. I'd order those sides again. The place is good for parties. The table was sort of awkward as you need to have one side scoot into a tiny space. (Wasn't a fan of that). Music was good vibes. I think it was how the servers were like "are you done" after 20 mins into eating and getting served and then quickly packing everything up. Sort of friendly but seemed like they just wanted to turn a table fast. Don't really live in the area, so idk if I'd be back It's a good place to check out. Just maybe notyncuomof tea.

From the get-go, the staff is very kind, respectful, and quick to take your order. I got the cornbread, which, at similar restaurants, is typically free as a courtesy, but here it was $3. The cornbread was great; I'd give it a (9/10). Shortly after, our food came as I had ordered the fried chicken entree, which came with baked mac and cheese for an extra $2. From the bite of the mac and cheese, it came out really good; I enjoyed the crust and seasoning, and I would definitely order the mac and cheese again (10/10). I would give this restaurant 5 stars if only the chicken had come out better. It had a good crunch, but the taste was honestly pretty bland. I wanted some juice from it, considering it was dark meat, but it was also fairly dry. It wasn't the worst fried chicken I've ever had, but it definitely didn't make the list (5/10). All in all, this place was a good experience. The staff was nice, the wait wasn't long, and the portions of the sides and food are very big. The only improvement is that the chicken needs better flavor and less dryness. 3.75/5; good.

I've had me some soul food in Mississippi and 'Bama, though at a fraction of the price you get up North. Look, it's a Montclair thing. Pluses: Black owned restaurant serving cultural staples, plus foods for people who don't want Southern. Ambiance featured soul music, and at one point was playing Shaft! I can dig it. You're not left wanting for food quantity or quality. Plenty of shrimp in the grits, for example. Server was very pleasant to talk to with a little Southern twang to her voice. Why not five stars: Flavor needs deepening. For example, in the South I'm used to seeing okra chopped and breaded before being fried. Maybe more oily that way, more carbs... but more flavor as a result. I had the pulled chicken mac, which was a bit smaller of a dish overall (a bit intentional on my part) - and while the cheese flavors run deep, the meat did not. Shrimp and grits, I took a quick sample of my friend's grits and... I bet you can guess my finding there. Still, a very nice change from the usual Northern selection of foods. I would not hesitate to say Sweet T's is authentic and a nice visit if you're in town. You'll be paying a pretty penny wherever you eat, so you can tag this one on your list.
