Singapore noodles that smell like feet
    Philip P.

This place needs to change their name from "hot wok" to "hot sock" because their Singaporean noodle dish smells like feet, seriously. I ordered the "crispy spicy chicken" and ended up receiving mildish chicken pieces drenched in marinade (probably containing 10,000 milligrams of sodium). The general Tso's chicken had a rubbery texture to it. I did some research on rubbery chickens served from Chinese restaurants and read that one of the leading causes is overcooking the meat. The next cause of rubbery chicken is a lack of moisture. It makes you wonder what the hell is going on back in their kitchen...

I had the hot and spicy shrimp lunch. Hot and sour soup was different but I really liked it. Was kinda small though. Food was good and for $9 with tax not too bad!!

    Pepper Steak with no peppers?

Ordered pepper steak what's missing? Portion was generous though. Got the meal which included soup, egg roll, and crab Rangoon.

Yelp reviews brought me here... I called and placed an order for pickup and was told it'd take 10 mins. Upon arrival I was greeted by a young lady at the register who was very nice and welcoming. The restaurant appeared to be clean and well lit. I ordered orange chicken with steamed rice. Once I returned home it was still hot and fresh. What I liked most about the chicken was that it didn't have a lot of breading. The flavor was really good and it had a little spice as well. Overall Great! Will return!

    Chicken Lo Mein

I'm new to the area so I haven't tried many of the local Chinese restaurants, but this is that kind of Chinese food that you order when you want to get it fast, take it home and plop down on the couch to watch a movie. I ordered pick up from Hot Wok because the weather has gotten colder and I wanted some chicken soup. I ordered a large wonton soup and a chicken lo mein. The large wonton soup is a steal at $4.50 because it's one of those large to-go containers and they gave me tons of wontons - probably 10-12? Maybe more? I didn't count them, but I was appreciative that they didn't give me a container of broth with 3-4 wontons. They also gave me two little bags of the crispy wonton chips. The chicken Lo Mein was tasty as well. It was pretty average as far as the lo meins I've had around Houston, which is honestly what I was looking for. Every once in a while I get a craving for an Asian noodle dish and this satisfied that craving today. The woman at the front was friendly and she had my order ready and waiting by the time I got to the restaurant. It appears that they might be doing only pick-up and delivery because when you walk in, the dining area is blocked off to customers.

This is my absolute favorite restaurant to order from. They are reasonably priced and you can get some great authentic Lo Mien as well as Egg Drop Soup (those are the things I order the most) and highly recommend trying the sweet and sour sauce. Although the menu has much more to choose from! The staff are very kind and loving and serve you very fast! I've been coming here over a year now and when I order carry out they bring it to my car for convenience sake. I didn't request it, but it goes to show that they care about their customers and it shows to great lengths. Thank you Hot Wok!

Guess who just lost a customer? Thanks for ruining the fresh paint on our door. Wish I could have caught a glimpse at the person doing this before they did.

Clay pot is the way to go. I also like the sesame oil flavor found in the egg drop soup. Clay pot dishes are yummy and their take on it came with more meat than veggies. So if you like more meat, then that's the way to go.

I'm so happy to discover this place, I received their menu-sheet in the mail box and decided to go give it a try. I ordered some spicy fish with rice I loved it. I started with their seafood soup omg it was amazing! I will definitely come back. For the convenience it's 1 Minute walking distance from my apartment.

We spent about $60, and unfortunately... this was one of the most disappointing meals we've had in a while. The food tasted old across the board. The egg rolls were burnt, the sweet and sour chicken was dry and flavorless, and the General Tso's chicken was soggy and overly sweet. The only things even remotely edible were the lo mein and fried rice. To make things worse, the service didn't match the price point. For a $60 order, we were given just four soy sauce packets, no plasticware, and no fortune cookies. When I asked for more soy sauce, sriracha, and duck sauce, I was initially given barely anything had to ask again and explain I had a full meal to feed. They eventually brought more, but still no fortune cookies. My husband and I eat out often because of our schedules, and we don't mind spending money on good food but this was not it. I had really high hopes because it's hard to find solid Chinese food in the Spring area, and I was hoping this could become a go-to spot. Unfortunately, it won't be. If I weren't so tired, I would've called back to complain but I just didn't have the energy. Chalking this one up as a loss and doing better next time. Would not return and I wouldn't trust the good reviews either. ‼‼

I have the pork with garlic sauce...it's very different than most restaurants in that it has huge chunks of fresh veggies and lots of garlic. I give the pork dish 5 stars! Huge portion for a great price. What I didn't care for were the egg roll and fried rice. The egg roll was just fried mush and the fried rice had a very strange flavor. But the main dish serving was so big it was all I needed. Hot and sour soup was ok. Service was great and on point. Over all I'd go back if in the area.

We wanted to try 1 dish of each specialty, so we ordered of course a Lamb Karahi, this is a very special dish, comes in a hot wok like plate, very traditional Pakistani, the flavor, texture and aroma of this dish is so unique, definitely a must, we asked level 2 spice and it was wonderful. We also had the Chana Masala, this is the best Chana I've tried, so garlicky, so good, the chickpeas had the perfect texture as well, again mild on the spiciness, just great. We also had Chicken Szechuan chaomein, great noodles, the Szechuan flavor on this dish was just spot on. I'm so happy we came to try this place, I can confidently say and confirm this is one of the best places to eat in Houston. I can't recommend just one dish, but don't skip the Chana Masala.

Dishes like Szechuan Spicy Chicken is still one of my favorite, and Garlic Snow Pea Leaves are delicious when in season. Bamboo House still holds its place as great spot for group dining. The portion is generous, prices are fair, and overall a solid restaurant that's still worth recommending.

The food was very good!…read more I was hesitant at first because some of the menu seemed to be fusion items. In a place like Houston, where you can get authentic Vietnamese food, this can be a luck draw if the fusion pays off. However, when I tried the food, it was a very flavorful and worth every cent I spent. Everything was very tasty. The wings were flavorful and crisp. It had a combination of crispy skin seasoned with a rich sauce. The meat was also moist. For a party of two, it was also very shareable because they gave six pieces -both drums and wings. I will say that you really gotta to get in there get your hands and face dirty though! (They did provide a hand wipe!) For the main dishes, the won tonic soup was very flavorful with sweet-and-sour elements with egg noodles that soaked up all this good flavor. The wontons inside were very standard. And the onion was added to provide some balance. Everything was very hardy and filling. My friend had gotten the vermicelli. Which came with crunchy egg rolls, shredded veggies, noodles, and shrimp topped with a fish sauce. It felt very light and refreshing with a balance of textures and savory elements'. Highly recommend as the number one and two selling dishes - it would just depend on if you're in a soup or dry noodle sort of mood. Service was overall fast and friendly. You have to pay by going to the counter. We had a newer waiter though, and it took him a long time to get our orders correctly and he had to get some help. Hopefully they're doing well, but overall, it's a very cute Homie little establishment. Seating fits around 30 around booths and tables.
