My 2nd time dining here and was just as good as the 1st. First time I tried the Double smash burger, this time I tried the Nashville chicken sliders and this is some good hot chicken. Crispy outside with a kick (your choice of heat levels) covering a moist meaty chunk of chicken. French fries are just as good. Smash sauce is very good and also has a slight kick. Was so excited to find out that Hot Motha Clucker is halal - love having different options in TO. Brought my family here on a Saturday night and was greeted by the kind gentleman at the counter who answered all our questions. They have shuffleboard, beer pong table, and TVs to keep you entertained while you wait for your food. Unfortunately a big group walked in 15 minutes after us and I could see our food was just sitting ready at the kitchen counter after the chef rang the bell to let the worker know it was ready. The worker was busy answering their questions and putting in their orders that our food just sat there until I finally got up to ask him if I could grab it. I heard another woman who was frustrated at pick-up as she was waiting a while for her food. There definitely needs to be more than one person at the front on a Saturday night. Today I finally checked out Hot Motha Clucker in Thousand Oaks, CA and damn did this spot hit! Even on a rushed hump day - between meeting clients - and adventure, I was able to make time to stop in. Seems like prices could be adjusted slightly to include it in a meal versus feeling nickel and dimed. The burgers came out pretty quickly. My family had theirs plain. Living in Agoura, options are slim and I hate driving over the hill, so I was excited to see a Nashville-style spot open up nearby in Thousand Oaks. I ordered the #7 Nashville Fry Up (medium spice), my wife got the #5 Tender Nuggets (country style, no heat), and my father-in-law went with the #4 Filthy Fries. The chicken tenders were...fine. The seasoning was solid and the crust tasted great--crunchy and flavorful--but the breading didn't stick to the chicken at all. As soon as I cut into it, the crust fell apart and ended up all over my fries. Not the worst thing flavor-wise, just messy and a little disappointing. The Filthy Fries were exactly what they sounded like--over-the-top in a good way--but nothing mind-blowing. My wife's country-style nuggets tasted like something we could've air-fried at home. Not bad, just not $15-worthy. We were the only ones in the restaurant (Monday around 4pm), and it still took about 10-15 minutes for our food, which makes me wonder what the wait would be like during peak hours. Decided to try this spot because there are only a couple of these locations and I am rarely nearby. I typically do not like tenders because they are often a dry flavorless hunk of meat and usually overrated. I'm so glad I tried these though because now I know how good tenders can be! Firstly, everything is cooked to order and comes out hot and fresh. For this reason I highly recommend ordering online for pickup or delivery if you're not planning to eat in the restaurant. With that said, I ordered a chicken sandwich, combo, medium heat and two tenders also medium heat. I almost ordered the hottest option but the cashier fair warned me that it was truly a heat that sneaks up and hangs around. I had my doubts but I'm glad I heeded his warning because the medium had a little sting to it that was slightly numbing, then a warm feeling that was comforting . So it is tolerable for those who like it a little hot yet still flavor driven. The tenders had a nice crispness along the edges and were literally tender, juicy, and oh so satisfying. I came in alone with nobody in front or behind me. I ordered two meals. As my meals were being made by the woman in the back, both the order taker and cook were chatting away while my order was sitting pending. Groups of people started to arrive as my order took around 20 mins to finish being made. Over the course of 45 minutes, waiting for 1 fry, 1 Mac, and a sandwich, a full 9-10 orders were taken while my food sat on the kitchen desk waiting to be bagged and given to me. I hinted to the woman taking orders that my Mac might not be made correctly without spice in order to get her attention to my food. She inspected the Mac, said it was okay, then placed my food back on the waiting table. The whole order was ready. She knowingly had me wait longer than necessary, despite being equipped with the knowledge that I was there for a LONG time. I waited 45 mins and gave her an opportunity to bag my food and get me out of there. Again, when I ordered I was ALONE in the shop. The ridiculousness of this doesn't end there. The coleslaw was just basic, nothing good or bad. Personally, on this one experience, I would take Popeyes Chicken sandwich over the Motha Clucker sandwich anytime. The sandwich came with a generous helping of fries. The price was right and the portion size was perfect for what I wanted. Not too much, not too little. Just right. Goldilocks style. Just wanted to note that these fries were excellent. Most places like this serve terrible crinkle cut fries or bloated wedge style fries, and these were perfectly seasoned shoe string style fries. Whatever seasoning blend was on the fries was great. No notes, but next time maybe a little less of the seasoning on top. Other than that, it was gangbusters. I also never get soda, but they had a pineapple cream soda at the soda fountain, and it was tasty as well. I walked out very satisfied and we'll definitely be adding this spot to our rotation. Wow an actual legit spicy chicken place in Conejo Valley. What a hidden gem this place is. I've only tried the HMC sandwich and hot fries on the menu and I'm hooked. Friendly reminder that their heat is on point! I love spicy food and mild is just right amount heat for me. If you don't like your food too spicy, definitely go down the heat level. I went here on Friday night around 7PM and there were not that many people dinning in inside. It does seem like they get a good amount of to go orders since they ran out of chicken quickly after I placed my order. We were staying in the area and on a recommendation we ordered food for pick up. Both my hubby and I got The Nashville Fry Up that comes with 3 tenders your choice of heat with fries. I wasn't ready for 'clucked up', so I ordered a medium l, original moths clucker sandwich combo. Not a bad choice, after all. Price was average. In fact, very comparable or on cheaper side than the McDonald's decent chicken sandwich combo menu. The decor of the place was pretty modern minimalist with dark washed background. A few tables for eat in customers and counter for order & pickup. There were a few puzzles for eat-in customers to play while waiting for their order. There was a pong game table for serious party goers. A line of beer kegs were lined up on the floor to fulfill those beer pong-gamers. I could visual a happy hour there (not sure if they have a happy hour; I forgot to ask) I also noticed a few Hookahs on display, not sure if they were available for customers to use. For those who were low on their cell phone, a charging station was available on the counter. Perhaps, paid per usage. Enquirer at the.counter. I was hesitant about the spice levels, but next time I will try the mild or medium. Without the heat seasoning, it was still fantastic! I would say 3.5 stars but it has gotten better than my first visit. Been back a few times since... Pretty good... Service is VERY slow even with less people there. Prices are fine. The chicken tenders and fries pickles are really good, the sliders and fries are just ok. Do NOT get the chef special as it's tiny and not as good as the tender or sliders. Fountain drinks do have a few selections not available and no fresh tea. I do agree with another yelper that the hall by the restroom reeks, do not sit by the fountain.
