There were days I wanted to sleep in but that was NOT an option due to commotion throughout the building. One of those mornings there was some dude (staff?) right outside our door by the vending machine with a shopping cart just systematically purchasing every single White Monster Energy Drink out of the thing. So at 7am was just "beep beep beep... rumble-- SLAM!" as each drink was dispensed over and over again until I gave up and got outta bed. I have no idea why he was doing that. Maybe he was hawking them for more money down the street corner? I will say that the vending machine prices were very reasonable (name brand soda for $1.50 a can is getting to be unheard of in this economy); though it doesn't dispense change, so when I used it I ended up feeding it three bucks and getting two (a Dr. Pepper and a Mountain Dew Baja Blast). So anyway, we were here because the price was right. We were attending a furry convention (DenFur) about five blocks north at the Sheraton, but were not willing to pay Sheraton prices to stay. Hostels have done well by us when we're visited other cities like Chicago, so I booked us a stay here in one of their private suites. It meant it was just the two of us in our room, which had its own tiny little sink (pretty high up sink though, weirdly), and toilet/shower were across the hall. Decent set-up. The toilet and showers all seemed clean throughout the stay, which I appreciated. Though the showers temperature was strange... At first I struggled to get hot water and then I couldn't have anything BUT hot water. Even once I completely turned OFF the hot water dial, it kept giving me water with heat. Idk, weird. But the water pressure was good and they had free shampoo on the wall; good thing because I completely forgot to pack mine. Oopsies. We didn't utilize the kitchen much save for the large communal fridge, which we stored milk and soda pop in. The fridge worked well, though one of the days the staff were pulling it off the wall and doing some maintenance or something...? Which was disconcerting at the time but seemed to not have any major impacts to our stuff so alright. There was also a little area for you to leave behind anything you didn't end up finishing so someone else could grab it for free. Waste not, want not! I like that. Lots of little tables to sit at and consume, if you so desire, along with plastic cutlery. I didn't see any rules about not eating in your room, which is primarily what I did, but I also made sure to be tidy about it and not leave any messes behind. There's a pizza joint right next door which you get a discount for just by staying (I didn't go there; I was obsessed with the Torchy's Tacos across the street instead lol), as well as a Boba Tea place in the lobby (but they're using gen-AI for their logo and advertising so morally I was opposed to giving them even a dime of my money). Another door down is a convenience store which doesn't have the best prices but IS convenient, so that's where we got our milk, soda, and breakfast pastries the first morning. Still cheaper than eating out, so we were glad it was there nearby the hostel. Check-in and check-out were easy. We each were given a card for entry into the second floor of the building and our individual room. On the first floor is a lobby you can hang out in if you are visiting someone who's at the hostel. There's also a bathroom and a water fountain freely available on the main floor. There's some sort of discount for parking at a nearby lot that you can get upon check-in. Details were extremely vague prior to our arrival and I'd already booked us a spot about a block away for $18/day, so I didn't end up using whatever thing they had going. I wish the information had been more freely available ahead of time on the hostel's website or in the confirmation email/reservation reminders, but whatever. Bed and linens were fine. Carpeting was fine. Stuff isn't in brand new condition, nor is it old and suffering. I managed to book this place using a summer deal they had going on their website that brought the price down a little. Definitely was about the cheapest we were gonna be able to get in the heart of downtown Denver, especially for a Friday and Saturday night.

I needed up needing to extend my stay and after hearing about them rave about 11th ave and getting to spend some time in the lobby I ended up snatching the last bunk bed room available. Which ended up working out great because my colleague from Boulder joined us and we decided to make it a night on the town, so he had a nice place to rest and saved him the drive back to his part of town late. There were little inconveniences. The oscillating motor on the AC unit in our room made a faint wailing noise which was a bit of a disturbance. Someone else in my group pointed out that they didn't have hair dryers. But all in all I'd book at 11th Ave over a hotel any day. The library was a cozy spot to get some work done and have a convo with my friends. I'll be back to Denver and ill be back to 11th Ave, for sure.

Tip: Call to reserve late checkout at 1:30 for $30. First come first served. Otherwise checkout is at 11 AM. It was nice to enjoy coffee in the lodge after a late night concert. Worth it to take the shuttle (mini school bus with a couch and disco balls!) for $15/person to be dropped up at the top of Red Rocks - beats the long line walking up. $25/person pick up - approx 10 min walk but it's all downhill to the party bus and seemed way safer than all the taxi drivers in your face outside of the amphitheater. Brooks is awesome and takes care of you!! We stayed in the Rose Retreat again. It's a small room, but I love the big shower and mini fridge with Brita. The window air conditioning unit kept the place nice and cool with it being 95° outside. Private hot tub and robes in the closet. Breakfast is included. Order at check-in and enjoy the next morning. There is also fruit, bagels, coffee and tea, with alternative milk available. Bottomless mimosas available for a cost. We enjoyed a nice chess game with coffee after a delicious breakfast. This isn't a super nice or updated space, but we had everything we needed for our mixed bag of early 30s friends. My friends and I stayed in the Stone St. cottage, which is heavily Grateful Dead/psychedelic/ classic rock themed. The room is listed as sleeping 3, which we did on night one, but easily slept 4 on night 2. The grounds were so charming and eclectic. The cottage we were in was a little wonky and slanted on the floor, but the rooms were clean, the shower worked great and we had more than what we needed. We checked in super late in the darkness so we didn't get to experience a normal front desk check in, which I'm sure would brief us on procedures like pre-ordering breakfast the night before, but the staff was so accommodating when we showed up hungry and ordered bacon, eggs and potatoes in the AM. Mary was the cook and she was rad, quick witted and whipped up a lovely home cooked breakfast. There are 2 dogs (that we met) on site names Shokti (gorg white husky queen) and Mr. Dog (precious, hilarious chihuahua businessman) and we loved to pet and visit with them while in the main lodge. That space is incredible: kitschy, eclectic, trippy and warm, just like our whole stay! I could go on forever about how adult-summer-camp-esque the grounds were! Every cottage is themed, though we only entered ours. The covered hot tub was a crucial touch for our group in the crisp 50 degree weather to take a morning dip and unwind after the show. I'm unsure if all cottages come with hot tubs so definitely confirm if that's something you're interested in. The walkability to all the necessities and some breweries/ eateries was appealing when we had time to kill. Cliff House offers a shuttle to and from Red Rocks for a fixed price per rider. The shuttle to the venue leaves 15 minutes prior to doors which was a little late for us, so we opted to take the shuttle back and it was a highlight of the trip. Brook's organized the shuttle, sent us incredibly detailed instructions on where/ how to find her in a short, yellow school bus. I especially appreciate the details because we had been drinking etc and needed the depth of care taken to make sure we found her! The bus was stocked with beverages and we played music and just bopped down the hill, laughing our butts off. This was such a fun stay for us and it was thanks to the grounds, location, home cooked breakfast and tea in the lodge, Mary, Brooks, Shokti and Mr. Dog. I will recommend to anyone I know traveling that way!

In a sketchy area of town (although the hotel can't help that), I was reluctant to go out alone even during the day. And it's never a good sign when there is a plunger next to the toilet in the room. The hotel itself was old and shabby. Worn carpets, uninviting. The room was painted bright orange. I felt like I was living in a traffic cone. There were no real curtains on the window in the alcove, making the room feel very open and not at all private. Never saw another person: no staff, no cleaning crew, no other guests. Everything was done via text, and the phone number they texted me the code to wasn't even my number. Had to call to get the codes, seemingly to a Virginia number. No remote in the room and it took hours after I asked for it to arrive. It had been left at another room! Soap was miniscule, there was no shampoo. The only amenity was a shaving kit. Bathtub was dingy. The only thing right was the air conditioning worked. Had I been able to cancel and get a refund, I would have left and gone elsewhere. Unsatisfactory all the way around.

The room was spacious and well stocked with normal toiletries.
