Brats. Home fried potties, pork chop, red cabbage

Ambiance and service was good. Authentic German feel.. The prices were fair. The food not so good!!! I ordered the 2 meat and 2 sides dinner. Although the food presentation looked good, the food was cold. It seemed like they must have made a large amount of food and put the pans under a food warmer light. Dished it out when ordered and served it. The bread was good but didn't seem like authentic German bread. Not impressed. I did check reviews before going. Would we go back idk. It could have been an off day.

We didn't feel like cooking so we did a coupon search for ideas. Found a BOGO entree one for Horst Gasthaus. We don't do German food often, not that many around us, so it was a perfect choice. The restaurant appears to be a converted house just off of Rt 17 behind another business. Parking is tight and they were busy. Outside doesn't look like much but the interior was nice with lots of themed tchotchkes on all the walls. The set up was definitely a house with the various rooms turned into various sized dining rooms and bars. It was busy looking but cozy. The service was quick and helpful in picking from a decent list of German beers. I settled on a Tucher Hefe Weizen which was very good. For dinner I had the Veal Jager Schnitzel with mushrooms. The Veal was very good. The German potato salad was, ok. The green beans were very soft and not really tasty. Of course it is subjective. I like a little bite to my veggies. Since it was our first time here and we have another coupon, I would try them out again. Will update at that time.

Live music adds to the experience

If you like German food, this is the real deal The atmosphere & decor is reminiscent of being in Germany. Servers are dressed and individually designed authentic costumes. Iced t cold boots of beer, a good selection of German wine, live accordion music, and great food. I recommend the fried pork chops.

It's been a minute since we've been back, but being we have a German exchange student living with us, we thought we'd give it a try. What a great night! We were so lucky to have Bettina as our server First, she speaks German which was such a blessing. Ask for her if you dine here. Second, everything was exceptional. We started with the brezel appy, the Gasthouse plate and suppe. The Schweinshaxe was a special that I highly recommend. We also had the Swiss style chicken, pork cordon bleu and chicken parm. All went over well, including the mashed potatoes and rotkohl. They also had several Octoberfest options on tap. One of the best things about Horst Gasthaus is the ambience. Live tasteful accordion music on Th, Fr and Sa too. Es war eine Fantstic-Nacht!

I was very excited to try Horst Gasthaus because I love German food, and there are no authentic places where I live. The restaurant is decorated to make it feel like you are in Germany. Even our waitress was German and dressed in traditional clothes. We started with beer, wine, and soft pretzels with cheese. The wine was a nice German Riesling, and they are generous with the pour. We loved the pretzel, and the cheese was very tasty. You are served fresh rye bread and butter, which was also very good. I had their Wiener Schnitzel with spätzle and cucumber salad. Everything was amazing. The schnitzel was crispy and flavorful. The spazel was covered with a yummy gravy. The cucumber salad was light and complemented the heavy dishes. I also tried the bread dumpling and sausage, which were delicious as well. For dessert, we shared the German chocolate cake. It was really good. Based on how popular they are, I would make a reservation.

Our entertainment for the evening.

Mathius "Matt" was our server and we were so pleased. He immediately welcomed us and shared the specials. He's new but was very knowledgeable. We went with Weiner Schnitzel and the Pork Schnitzel. We both had the delicious green beans while I had the creamy potatoes and my dad had the German potato salad. He was very happy. The entertainment by Pat was so special and was nice that he took requests. All in all, the atmosphere and decor is great and the service and the food was really good. We will definitely be back and bring our family and friends.

Happy monsters.

Wow! The kids ate everything. I enjoyed an elderberry martoonie while the male folk sipped their larger German beers. Had an assortment of all the things. Pam was an amazing server she made lovely recommendations and was kind and funny. Happy hour offers $1 off drinks and $2 pork chops (@ bar only) 4-6 pm. They do not take discover cards. Can not wait to return. The seating was generous and the posters, stencil vines, and decorations made this a whole wonderful experience.

We take a look at the menu and notice that the pricing even for being downtown was very fair and somewhat surprisingly cheap. Especially once the food came out, they could be charging 50% more and I'd still be happy. The mac & cheese is something I've never tasted before very different but comfortable at the same time I believe three different cheeses are in it. I don't really like waffles or pancakes, but my girlfriend told me to try the potato pancakes and they blew my mind with the chive, sour cream and applesauce sides.. Now we could've just ordered from the appetizer menu since everything seemed perfect from there, but the Brussel sprout appetizer was by far my favorite with poppyseed vinaigrette. We had plenty to take home, and I finished it off the next day still amazed at how well it was put together. I got the chicken schnitzel for my main and it is perfectly prepared and cooked. The breading was fantastic crunchy in every delicious way I even use the applesauce as a dip along with the mushroom sauce that it came with my girlfriend got the Rachel sandwich and she loved her choice as well. Overall, everything we ate from the appetizer menu to main course menu to even the french fries and dipping sauces was phenomenal and again I cannot stress it is enough. The price is unbelievable for this quality of food.

Unfortunately, the service was very poor. The woman helping us was rude and seemed irritated the entire time we were there. We felt unwelcome and uncomfortable, which really took away from the visit. It was disappointing because the food was so good. With better service, this place could easily deserve a much higher rating.

I was honestly very surprised by how much I enjoyed everything. The inside of this quaint little restaurant has a strong German feel. The staff are dressed traditionally, which makes the whole place feel charming and authentic. It is honestly adorable. I would love to return when they have live music to enjoy the full experience. We started with the potato pancakes and the sausage platter, and both were excellent. Every sausage on the platter was seasoned so well that I did not even need mustard. I ate each one exactly as it was served, and the flavor was fantastic. The pretzels that came with the platter were also very good. The potato pancakes were phenomenal. I easily could have eaten more, but I wanted to save room for my entrée. For my meal, I ordered the veal schnitzel with spaetzle and potato salad, along with mushroom gravy. The veal was incredibly tender and absolutely delicious. I loved it so much that I want to try making it at home. The spaetzle was fantastic and something completely new for me. The mushroom gravy really brought everything together and made the dish feel complete. The potato salad was just average, but everything else was outstanding. My boyfriend ordered the pork schnitzel with spaetzle and really enjoyed his meal as well. Between the music, the cozy atmosphere, and the wonderful food, the entire experience was warm and memorable. This was such a great introduction to German cuisine, and I would definitely return.

We ordered a couple of the Chicken Schnitzel Sandwiches and some fries, and I'm not exaggerating when I say it was the best schnitzel I've ever had. The sandwich was huge--definitely didn't skimp on the portions--and the breading was perfectly crispy and flavorful. Also, a huge shoutout for the small details: the bottled Diet Cokes were ice cold. Most of the time at these outdoor festivals, you're lucky to get a 'cool' drink, but these were refreshing and perfect for a day out in the sun. If you missed COV here in Little River you can catch up with them at the Myrtle Beach Food Truck Festival on April 10-12 "

I first visited about five years ago and remembered it immediately when we were back in Myrtle Beach. This time confirmed it wasn't nostalgia talking. The food is still outstanding. The pierogi were top tier. Tender dough, well filled, and clearly handmade. The potato pancakes were crisp on the outside, soft inside, and exactly what they should be when done right. The Polish sampler plate is a ton of food and easily the best choice if you want to experience several traditional items in one visit. It's perfect for a first timer and more than enough for a solid lunch. The folks working there are incredibly friendly. Sometimes places like this can feel a little intimidating if English isn't the primary language, but everyone was welcoming and kind. I never felt like a stranger or like I was imposing. Just the opposite. This place feels like a neighborhood deli you'd stumble into somewhere up north, not something you expect tucked into Myrtle Beach. Great lunch spot.
