We recently moved to Burke (from Alexandria) and after a busy morning working on our new house, my wife and I wanted a good meal. We simply stumbled upon Hopsfrog and are really glad we did! The food was excellent. We both had cheeseburgers and they really hit the spot. We also had the cheese fries, which were delicious. There were a lot of other things on the menu that we want to try so we'll definitely be back. As for the restaurant itself--when we went at lunch, the employees seemed to be doing everything right with regards to COVID. Granted, we didn't venture into the bar area, but the seating area in front was managed pretty well. Our servers (I'm really bad with names) were attentive and friendly. Since this is only a mile up the road from our house, we'll definitely be spending a lot more time here! read more

Nice hole in the wall little bar. Decent drinks strongly urge you to try the lemondrop. People can get loud in here but it is what you expect. I love their apple pie a la mode. Prices are cheap and servers are pretty nice. read more

Service was great. Food was good for everyday eating. Full bar. They have a new back patio area with 4 tables, good for an afternoon lunch. The menu isn't extensive but the food was good. Had the schnitzel and as good as any I've had before, and have had it in Germany. I'd recommend it if you haven't been here before. read more

Although food is good and service good the bar tender is snippy. I gave it a two because the music being played is so loud you can't talk. We asked to have it turned down but then the bar tender turned it up again. Will not be going back. read more

Ordered the mexican-themed family meal as take out for $46 and it was excellent! There were generous portions, especially of the fajitas, which came in entire tray! The Nachos were loaded with veggies and beans. The meat was well seasoned and the guacamole had a little kick to it and lasted three days without turning brown. The menu says that this feeds four or more. This could feed up to ten! Our expectations were exceeded! read more

Went there twice; once on Sunday for brunch, bloody Marys and beer. Had the Mediterranean Flaming Cheese which was so incredibly good I went back the following week for another bout of it. Also had an Athenian omelet which was unremarkable and Belgian waffle, very good, light, tasty, with delicious blueberry topping. This place is our Cheers. Everyone knows your name and preferred drink. And they always seem to be glad we came. The food is good the drinks are great. And the atmosphere is phenomenal Actually my wife discovered this gem and invited me in. Sadly my wife Sylvie and I are relocating to Austin Texas for work. we ordered for pickup in January 9th. when we arrived to pick up we were told the order was being boxed up. 10 minutes later we were told the order was accidentally taken by one of the delivery services ie..Grub Hub/Uber Eats. we were told they would need to start the order over and would be another 1/2 hour. We said no thanks and they said they would refund my card. it It is now 01/31 and still no refund after MULTIPLE calls to the restaurant and being promised they would escalate to owner to have refund processed. I would love to see the $66.04 I had stolen from my account for goods I did not receive, returned to me. read more

********second review********* These guys are still awesome. I usually tip them at least 25%, although I often do more. Melaura, one of the managers, cooks on weeknights when the chefs leave. As a burger guy, I can tell you that she makes a really good one. She also brought me a few sides and condiments that weren't normally served with the meal, once, they even MADE me some chipotle mayo. Make sure to tip her and Josh well when they serve you. The staff remains very friendly and outgoing. And I've met some really nice regulars at the bar, it's created some great networking opportunities for me too. I recommend these guys if you want a calm atmosphere, good service, a decently priced meal, and a watering hole that isn't always crowded like Greene Turtle or a similar bar. The menu isn't particularly extensive, and some menu options are better than others, but I enjoy it here a lot. read more

First time visit to this establishment. Saturday morning 8:30 place was deserted. Had to wait several minutes for an employee to appear-then finally I walked in the back past the bar to find someone. I had phoned in a to-go order at 8am & it still wasn't ready. Buyer beware- $3 for a side of bacon and $2 to get one slice of cheese on a burger. And the breakfast only comes with 1 piece of toast-not 2 like most other places. When I asked the server if $2 for a piece of cheese was correct he said yes because it's considered a "build your own burger" I said well then I guess I won't be coming back here-he said "ok". So all in all $31 for three breakfasts with NO drinks seems a little extreme. read more

Don't avoid it because of my rating and if your there for breakfast, try the pancakes with strawberry topping. I stopped here on a Sunday morning with a dozen friends after an early romp through Burke Lake Park. When we got there at 9 am the place was empty and they took us showing up without reservations in cheerful stride. Our timing was good because by 9:30 the place was packed. The waitstaff was pleasant and helpful as could be. The food was not fancy, not expensive, and pretty good. I had pancakes and they had a homemade quality except the were better than I've ever made. Heck, they even offer Fired Chicken and Waffles which I thought was reserved for Founding Farmers and the South. Oh wait, we're in Virginia... never mind. For me, a 3-star rating means I may never return on my own, not object of others suggest it, and not recommend it to others. If I should find myself back here for breakfast, I would order the pancakes again. read more

My first visit to Hopsfrog. We decided that it would be an ideal way to celebrate Leap Day 2016. We had a party that grew from 7 to 14 in the matter of a half hour. Our waitress Tran(sp?) was very helpful moving tables and setting up our group in the bar. Note: Happy Hour prices only apply to the bar area not the dining room. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I had the Buffalo Wings which were pretty good not to spicy (they have a fire hot version). My friend who ordered the Garlic Chicken Fettuccine noted that the chicken nor noodles did not have any garlic except on the bread. We had a very pleasant evening sitting among the frogs. If i was in the Burke area, i would go there again. read more

Servers were so nice and friendly! I had the best Reuben I think I've ever had in my life there. Chicken tenders were sliced breasts and hand breaded (AKA the good kind). Kitchen was backed up so it took over an hour for the food to come out but we were all happy and content. Plus they offered a discount even though we didnt mention the wait time at all! Not very much family dining seating (maybe 9 tables) but there is a separate bar area. I like that the family dining and bar was kept in separate rooms. Plus the prices were great. Tried this place out after church on Sunday. It's a mom and pop diner style place that seems to have a cool bar area. We sat in the diner section up front . My fiancé and I both ordered the burger. To start the service was okay. The place wasn't very full but the staff seemed to hang out in the kitchen instead of checking on customers. The food was pretty good overall. The burger was big with some crispy bacon and fresh vegetables as toppings. I got the onion rings instead of fries and was happy with the choice. Like I said overall it was good just wish the staff was more engaged and attentive (I had an empty coffee cup for quite awhile before someone even came back out so I could ask for more). This is an updated review. The first review is below and was a two. But I've updated it to four stars because we've returned here several more times (unlike what my original review said!). It's not the best but it's close and super family friendly. The bar is separated from the diners which is a plus bc they can get loud. The food is fine. But it's a local chain and I'd rather support them than an Applebee's or something. OP:We used to come here nine years ago and loved it. Now we've moved back and it's just meh. The French dip was bland and the meat was tough. The kids pizza was made from scratch, which was nice. I don't think I'd go back here. read more

I struggled between a 2 and a 3 star rating. The service was excellent. We were cheerfully greeted, sat immediately, and our server was very attentive. Our drinks never went empty and the food came out quickly. The food. Oh, the food. None of it was good. It wasn't inedible, technically, but it was not worth having eaten, either. The Italian panini sandwich was not special. It tasted like the sum of it's ingredients - turkey, ham, pepperoni and cheese. Nothing unique about it. It did come out fresh and hot, so that's something. The french dip lacked flavor in every sense of the word. The french bread it was served on wasn't bad, but the meat itself seemed like microwaved deli-counter roast beef. The au jus served on the side was similarly flavorless and the horseradish sauce had a disproportionate amount of sour cream to actual horseradish. The worst offender, however, were the french fries. They obviously came from a bag - WHICH IS FINE - but at least have the decency, as a restaurant owner, to buy REAL french fries. The fries they serve are not the kind that are cut from whole potatoes. They are, instead, the kind where the potato is process and then 'formed' into a french fry shape. These are the cheapest of the cheap, and potatoes are pretty cheap to begin with. Don't take my word for it, and if you're in the area I see no reason why you shouldn't give this place a shot, because clearly many people have had positive experiences here. However, it's unlikely we will ever be back when there are so many more options in the area. read more

This is a really cute restaurant, it moved from the main road of Burke Center Parkway back on the strip area going parallel to Kohls in that shopping center. The food is alright, typical bar food that is not bad. Drinks are cheap since you are in burke. They do have a regular crowd that is loyal to Hops Frog. Sunday brunch is very good! read more

Tony is the best bartender! I told him my name once and he remembered It the whole time I was there. If you want to go somewhere local and have a good time and enjoy all the staff this is the place. Went for brunch and can't believe I've lived in Burke for so many years and not eaten here. Very friendly service. The mimosa tasted of fresh OJ and very light champagne, the omelet was a little overdone with the toppings mixed into the egg (like flat scrambled) with cheese in the fold -- but tasted good. Home fries were awesome and so was the fresh fruit on the omelet plate. Definitely trying again for lunch or dinner. read more

Great little neighborhood restaurant. I recommend it. The food is always good as are the drinks. We were there for brunch today and the Hopsfrog omelets were very good as was the fish and chips. But for $15.95 with three average size pieces of fish, it seemed a bit pricey. Did it fill you up? Yes. But I would have been just as full at $12.95 for the quantity received. The prices for everything else seemed reasonable. The drinks were very good with sufficient alcohol (some places do skimp here) though there is no celery in the Bloody Mary. They must have celery in the restaurant somewhere. The apple pie and limoncello cake were very good as well. If there was one irritant, the drinks took an interminable amount of time to arrive. So long in fact, they were brought with the food we ordered...which did arrive in a reasonable time. Drinks should arrive in advance of meal. read more

2 stars because there isn't an option for 1.5 and 1 star is a bit too low. Lunch on a Wednesday Decent food. The Italian panini was good, not great. The onion rings were soggy (hot, but soggy). The "garden salad" came with lettuce and one giant slice of cucumber and one giant slice of tomato that required either cutting them into smaller pieces or eating them like a hotdog on a stick. Over all though, the food was decent (1.5 stars) Service was not good. I visited for lunch and was greeted at the door with blank stares from the bartender. I actually asked if they were open because they literally didn't acknowledge my presence. If it weren't for the free wifi, I would have left immediately. After seating my self and waiting for the waiter to finish her lunch, I got my order taken and was served fairly quickly. After taking a bite, I was asked how it tasted. It was decent. As far as being waited-on, that was it! My drink was empty nearly before my food arrived, an it was never refilled. No check ups. I sat for nearly an hour (again, I was using my laptop for some school work) and no refills. Not a good experience. Again, free wifi, but bad service and very mediocre food. Too bad for the waiter. A tip is only as good as the service. I'm usually a very generous tipper (around 20% when I sit for as long as I did); not this time. read more

Good service from server but the manager seemed very put off the whole evening. He seemed like it was a hassle that we had two children. We were one of three guests on the restaurant side so there was plenty of space. It was our first time. I don't think we will be returning. Our children were excellent too. Lived here for years, and had not tried this restaurant until recently. We were happily surprised with the quality of the food, most of which seems to be made in-house. The service is fast and friendly, the menu is diverse, and the monthly specials are interesting. This month, one of the specials was Wiener schnitzel. It was great! Huge servings, good service, clean if uninspired decor. We will be coming again. read more
