Just a few steps from the nearest metro station. I rolled in here at 2:30 AM, a 5-6 appeared to be regulars sat chatting in the bar. I came in uneasily but was easily accommodated. But it was rather quiet during the wee hours. But after me few oddballs came in ordered a cocktail and stared into oblivion in silence. When I was there they it appeared they had the Jack's' Abbey takeover the NYC metropolitan. I had a few of their lagers and some other stuff. They blasted some kind of Metallica/Kreator which was pleasing. The bartender mostly chatted with the "regulars" but that's okay. Hops Hill is a small bar with a great beer and whiskey selection. It's a classy-looking establishment with tealight candles and whatnot. There was hockey on the TV, if you're into that sort of thing. On a recent Sunday night, the place was a ghost town--only two other people. I only find fault with the squeaky, uncomfortable chairs. Otherwise, this bar seems top notch. read more

Loved this bar. Pretty small bar with outside seating, that served a wide selection of craft beers and whiskey (or is it whisky? Whatever, I'm over this debate). Anyway, I didn't try any of the food, so my review is only on the beer. I had a sour beer and then a whiskey and my friend, who is particular about his IPAs, had a couple of those, and we both went with the bartender's choice. We were both more than satisfied. Only downside is that they kept the lights so bright, evening as the evening went on. But, if you're in the Clinton Hill area and looking for a smaller bar that's quiet enough to have a conversation where you're not shouting over the music, then definitely check this place out. read more

Where to begin. This is far and away the best beer bar in New York. Unlike many craft beer bars that have opened in the past few years Hops Hill is welcoming and unpretentious. Cozy clean spot that is great for beer geeks and novices alike. Bartenders are knowledgeable and I've seen them guide countless beer tourist to the perfect brew. Staff is friendly and doesn't get put off by questions or asking for a sample. I've had Black Albert, Cantillion, Prairie and Hills Farmstead on multiple occasion at or cheaper than take out places... In a bar! Always seems to be a regular generously sharing a rare (and pricey) beer. The friendly, fun staff atttacts some fun and interesting customers. Taps are rotatating and they always have a beautifully balanced draught list anchored typically by an extremely fresh local IPA and usually a rare as shit imp stout and sour. Barrier, Finback and Secret Engine all made beers for their anniversary. Shows some respect in the community. I've witnessed the owner clean the line between EVERY keg. I've worked at bars and this is unheard of. Ideal place for a brewer to debut a beer. Oh they started doing sandwhiches and they nailed that too! At the end of the day it's more than just a beer bar. I see people sipping wine and hitting up their crazy large unique liquor selection. Neighborhood bar that's open late, inexpensive and worth the trip from Manhattan. What a spot. I'm so lucky to live so nearby. Great great great beer selection. And it's always changing! They had Zombie Dust one night! It was dope! The bartenders are super friendly. The prices are reasonable. It's cozy. Great clean bathroom. Power outlets everywhere for you to charge your phone. Right by a citibike station and the Clinton Washington C. Spent an hour here while waiting for a table at Emily. Extensive beer list, and knowledgeable bartender. You can also try any beer before ordering. I was introduced to Other Half brewery in Gowanus and had their citrus IPA. Patrons were welcoming, and there was even a TV so you could watch the game. read more

Stopped into this joint after dinner with a friend for a few drinks to end the night. This place has a cool local vibe. There's a good bit of seating at the bar and and surrounding tables. They offer a range of beers; there's something for everyone. The beer selection was good, but being a craft beer lover it could have been better. Hops Hill has an excellent (and apparently constantly changing) selection of interesting beers. I had my choice of three different IPAs, my personal favorite, the last time I visited, and the bartender was knowledgeable about all of them, plus very friendly. The bar was fairly quiet for a weeknight at 7pm-ish, but I can see it getting very crowded on weekends. Great location right on Fulton, close to a ton of restaurants and the C train. I have been here a number of times and haven't had a bad time. While the beers can be on the more expensive side, the beers they serve are not your run-of-the-mill beers. An amazing and underrated bar. The quality of its draft list is really understated by the unassuming entrance. I wish it were in Crown Heights, I would go all the time! It's always pretty quiet and chill when I go in. I usually go to read and have a beer. It's a little dark inside for day drinking, but they have small little back patio. Between the bottles and taps it's really got the best selection around. They are willing to take some risks and throw on some weirder beers. They also do crowlers, so sometimes I'll stop out of my way and grab something yummy to take home. read more

There for the first time last night. Drinks are ok. Bathroom wasn't clean. My entire group was aghast to witness a trio of sitting at the bar with a dog. The women walked in and placed the small dog ON the counter--you know, the place where we all place our hands and where drinks and napkins go. A dog who was previously walked on the slushy, dirty NYC street! The bartender must have thought this was cute, because he proceeded to provide a small dish for the dog to drink out of--ON THE BAR. We watched this dog lap water all over the counter. After that I couldn't stop noticing how the glasses are not washed, just barely rinsed, at the bar. I could barely drink out of my glass. Ugh. This bar's definition of cleanliness is the fastest way for that A rating to go down to a C. read more
