I found out about "Hoppy's" through my dad and I at least stop by here once a week. Lol. I don't live in Sunnyvale, but this place is definitely worth stopping by. Lot's of lottery winners here from what I heard, so come on over and test your "luck". Good amount of average beer and also a decent amount of boutique brew here for pick up. Pricey and rare, but they cater to the young crowd that likes to spend cash. I like the fact that they have a blood orange IPA to go, I'm not a big fan of reg IPA so that's a win in my book. It's like 2.50 2.79-ish. Not bad at all. The service here is pretty straightforward and overall friendly, but I don't expect anything less than S-vale. My favorite local spot. Been going here for a long time; really since high school. Hoppy is great. He's a very hard worker and so kind. There has never been a day he's been in a bad mood. Great little shop. Good beer and hard alcohol selection. Really good luck on the lotto tickets too. I've won every time Ive purchases a ticket from him. If you live locally, make this your spot to swing by. If you're not a local, come by anyway a win the lottery. read more

Nice workers. Really homey feel. They have a wall of winning scratchers when you enter. I didn't win anything unfortunately. Parking is kind of hard, but their customers are quick. They're in and out within a couple of minutes. read more

Love , love , love Hoppys ! The store is family operated by Hoppy, Ivan, and Ken who are always providing the best customer service and selections from wines,Liquors beers, lottery tickets , to special flavored ice cream selection of the month. Did I mention Hoppys has some of the best prices anywhere for your adult beverage of choice and smokes. Hoppys is a candy store for adults and the kids ( snacks, candies and locally made fresh donuts daily). I can not say enough great things about Hoppys it' one of those last standing great mom and pop establishments that you have to come experience the awesomeness that reminds you of the nostalgia of your favorite childhood local store market, and if you are looking for a new market to call your own, then come down to Hoppys. read more

Hoppy is the best! I've been a customer for a few years and always feel welcome when I come into his convenient store to rent a U-haul truck or to buy something. I've rented trucks from Hoppy numerous times because I know that I will get exceptional service. I always receive a big greeting from Hoppy when I enter his store, even when he is busy helping other customers. Hoppy is very accommodating and friendly and genuinely appreciates the business his customers bring him, which is why he has such loyal clientele. You need a soda, beer, chips, vodka, winning lottery ticket or a uhaul? This is the place to go! Hoppy is so nice and friendly, he makes you want to shop there instead of stopping at some place that might be more convenient. Also, they are always selling winning lottery tickets. My husband, family and friends have all won on scratchers and quickpicks more than once! read more

This place for some reason sells a lot of lottery tickets. Almost everyone (except me) who comes here gets lotto tickets. I actually come here for the U-Haul. The chinese guy behind the counter was always friendly and helpful. I even returned the U-Haul truck one time after I used it for removing the demo work in my house. He was cool about the truck being returned uncleaned. He does seem to need some help behind the counter though since a lot of people come for lotto tickets. read more

Cigarettes are (relatively) cheap here--both Camel and Marlboro. There is actually a dude named Hoppy who owns and runs this place--he is one of the most gregarious people ever! He always remembers you and has a great laugh. They have a wide selection of quicky foods and toiletries, etc. This place also rents U-Hauls at reasonable rates, and usually has at least 5-6 trucks on hand, with boxes for sale inside the store. read more

I went here to rent a UHaul. The chinese guy behind the counter was "awesomely" friendly. As mentioned in one of the reviews (here), there are a lot of people who come here to buy lottery tickets. The store has pretty much everything, good collection of alcohol, decent snacks, and the rest all is usual, but FIVE stars just for the friendly chinese guy. read more

These are the nicest people. About two weeks ago I lost a small "cosmetic" pouch. I've been looking all over to no avail. Yesterday I stopped by Hoppy's for a lottery ticket and the clerk asked if I had lost my wallet. I hadn't so I didn't think much about it til I was almost home when I realized it might well be my little blue pouch. I went back this morning and there it was. They had made an extraordinary effort to figure out who had lost it by looking a video tape and then recognizing it might be mine even though I'm not in there all that often. Called over at 5pm on christmas day asking for pliny's. The owner said he had some and to come by. Drove for an hour, swung by at 9pm and his helper who cannot speak english said he will not sell me any. Got him to call his boss and he continued to refuse. Several people were walking around carrying their items in their arms because they couldn't find a small cart either. I typically use self-checkout as I find it more convenient. However, one time I came in the morning and the self-checkout was closed. The one staff member at the registers left to talk on her phone and was texting when she came back. She seemed a bit annoyed to be there. Other than that, service-wise everyone I've talked to when I stop by has been kind. I prefer Safeway Cupertino over Safeway Sunnyvale because it's cleaner and has a better layout. My only complaint would be that the store always seems too hot but since I'm never there for more than 15 minutes it's not a deal breaker. The whiskey could be cheaper but they do have a solid selection/collection. I say selection/collection because I'm not sure which one is worse, the liquor store that doesn't have anything interesting or the liquor store that has more than a few interesting whiskey's for well over MSRP. They do have some rare/limited whiskeys but it will be at luxury pricing. The more available whiskey's are priced competitively with the Lucky grocery store next door but overall expect to pay a few dollars more than somewhere like a BevMo! or Total Wine. Some of the beer could be fresher (check the dates), Never bought any wine from here so can't comment on that, snacks and sodas are present but nothing special. They do have some decent cigars though.

I've been going to this liquor store, mainly for Lottery and a quick refreshment for many years…read more Mainly, because of the location is convenient if I'm going to Safeway or headed home from work, however, I think I'm just going to go out of the way and go to the liquor store that's on El Monte instead. The owner is the friendliest and most welcoming when you go to their store, it's clean and he doesn't give you dirty looks, like you're being a bother to them when you ask a simple question. Almost every single time that I've purchased something at Bailey's the same 2 guys behind The Counter are extremely rude and condescending. The only one that seems to be nice is the shorter Hispanic man, he is always friendly but the other two guys that are there the majority of the time should not be in Customer Service. I asked a simple question about a Lottery timeline that I've never asked before, he points to a sign and rudely says it's right there instead of just saying the time. It's just one example every single time I've gone in there. I try to smile and strike up a conversation but they're just very blunt and rude. It's like they don't like female customers is the impression that I get, maybe it's just a culture thing I don't know. They just look like they want to get you out the door as fast as possible. I was always raised to say thank you and I say thank you even when I'm purchasing something I've never heard them say thank you once. Last comment on the lottery tickets, they get in a huff thanks for if you're deciding on which ticket and they have to "bend a little further" they say "let me know all at once so I don't have to bend twice" OMG!. I've never heard such a response from a merchant, it's not like they're working hard behind The Counter. A little exercise would be good for them. I've never left such a blunt review, but I just had it with these two guys that are so rude & condescending. I won't be back again, rather drive an extra 10-15 minutes to El Monte. Reading some of the other reviews, I get the same impression. For the business Owner, you really should look at your staff and how they treat people nothing is guaranteed and times are tough right now with people spending money you don't want negative employees representing your store. The Bailey shopping center as a Whole has really went downhill and you have drug addicts that hang out in front of the store, so no one will go there past daylight. I would try to retain the customers that you do have & be nicer.

At first, I was thinking this must be the on on Maude Avenue, but my GPS took me past Seto Fish and Chips on Borregas Ave to this little tiny plaza where Guadalajara Market is located. Upon entering, you could sense authentic Mexican aura, where Mexicans & Latinos alike frequent. It felt a little foreign to me at first (being a non-latino), but after browsing the entire store, not very large in comparison to your typical supermarkets, but spacious enough to find your fresh meats & produces. I must admit it was a bit uneasy at first, because folks & cashiers speak Spanish, I was wondering if they can speak English. After finding what brought me here - weekly flyer specials on 67 fl oz Canola & Olive Oil Blend for $5.99 (normally upwards of $10 even at Walmart), and brought to the cashier, who stepped away at the time, however, another Mexican lady who manned the Money Wiring Service next to the register area, spoke in fluent English, "she will be right with you! That put me right at ease, as I wasn't sure if they can speak English. The cashier then showed up, and who was rather nice as well. So, if you're in this neighborhood, I highly recommend it

I really, really liked the previous owner and was sad to see him leave so I was hesitant to come and give the STORE another shot however, I'm so glad I did. The new owner is awesome! He's super friendly. He always has a smile on his face. You could tell he's worked hard to make improvements to the actual store and bring in some new merchandise as well. I mainly go for lottery tickets and then an occasional refreshment or snack so I'm not spending tons of money, but he still is so friendly and Always strikes up a conversation and always has a smile on his face. That's really appreciated these days. We all need that, because I have another liquor store That's closer to my home that sometimes I'll go to in a pinch for a lottery ticket, but they're so rude that I'm not going there anymore. I'll go out of my way to actually go to El Monte now even if it's an extra 15 minute drive. I know small businesses are having it tough these days, hopefully things go OK financially and he will be there for a long time to come.
