My friend and I finally made the 25 minute drive from Birmingham to SCS. It is not as far from Birmingham as it sounds. It was well worth the 25 minutes. We had delicious food. Berry Salad with mix greens, and Sicilian Chicken with Fettuccini Alfredo. It was excellent. It was so nice when we walked in to be greeted immediately greeted by the hostess. The ambiance was beautiful. We sat on the deck surrounded by Lake St Clair. The inside is beautiful with white table clothes. We had a great time. the service was outstanding. The appetizer and bread they give you were good. The Davis salad was excellent. Pretty much that was it. The entree's not so much. My jumbo Scallops were drenched in oil. It wasn't good. The chicken dish our friend got was flavorless and the main knuckle claw with scallops wasn't very good. The pasta was not cooked enough. The dessert we got was donut bread pudding, the picture of it in the menu looked nothing like what we got. Plus it took forever! Disappointed in the food, especially since it wasn't cheap. I was in a party of seven adults and went here to have a nice dinner. Service was extremely slow. When we ordered any drinks and it would take at least 25 min. before we received them. This happened every time we ordered another round. The food took at least a 40 min. for the entrees to arrive. One entree was missing and took at least another 20 minutes for it to show up. It was just a pizza. They took it off of the bill. Two people ordered the lamb chops med. rare. Both meals came well done. Two hours later a member of the party became extremely ill. The person had the salmon. The experience was memorable for all the wrong reasons. I, in good conscious, would never recommend this restaurant. It saddens me to write this review but felt it was time to do so. Being a long time former customer of Jack's, which became Brownies for years, my wife and I have always enjoyed a great time, every time, being on the deck, either eating or having drinks while listening to some great music. That's all changed with HOOk...! We tried coming three time last year when they first took over and everything was different. It was a restaurant, an expensive restaurant with poor service and little to no energy on the deck. We were told the owner didn't want a boater crowd nor a bar crowd from several people had told us and was he firm on it. My question is: Why did he buy a bar on the water and not want a boater crowd or bar crowd?? Not too smart in my opinion.... LOL. The few times they had entertainment it was dinner music. All the fun of the gone..! Mandatory valet parking and a dress code took away from what the previous establishment use to be. Now, it's nothing more than an expensive restaurant on the water, that's it. We came again this year to give it another chance and it wasn't any different. In speaking to other friends of ours who frequented Brownies and Jacks in the past, they felt the same as we did. The best days of Brownie's is behind us. We hear the owner now wants to change things because business is not what he expected. I wonder why? In our opinion, it's too late. Once you lose your old Clientele it's very hard to get them back. Ask any business owner and they'll tell you the same. We've moved on and miss our days at Jacks & Brownies. read more

The service is great! The food only so-so for the prices. Been there twice. Inside: first visit tried their sushi, friend had salad, both not out of this world, just okay. Second time: outside, tuna poke bowl and their specialty hamburger. The poke bowl for $17 was small, appetizer size, the presentation was nice but not enough to fill you, so ate my husband's french fries that was with his burger. Specialty burger was covered in so much brown sauce the burger was disgusting to hold and eat so didn't finish it. Martinis with 3 olives, the martini glasss were only 1/2 full so only one olive was actually in the martinis, the other two olives were old and dried up. $15 for that sad martini!!! Sunny outside but there was only two umbrellas that were functional, the rest were broken. Prices are ridiculous for a boating hangout bar. Missing Jack's. We sat in the restaurant for 2 and a half hours before we served our meals and at that point it was wrapped up to go since we were ready to leave. I've been to Hook a couple of times. It's a cool vibe, but can be loud at times. Service is alright; Renee was our server most recently and she wasn't that stellar. She didn't ask if our party wanted another bottle of wine nor if we wanted dessert. This was surprising, since she revealed that she's been working at Hook since it opened and went through six months of training. I asked for olive oil for the bread and was denied-which is hard to believe. The wine selection was nice. The pasta dish with lobster, that was ordered during the first experience, lacked flavor; however, a large portion. The best part of the night was the Asian sea bass special. It was phenomenal! This is been my fifth time eating there since they've been open. Every time I've been there, it's been hot and cold. I've had one very nice experience. Saturday night was definitely the worst. We had a reservation for a table of 12, it was my girlfriend Kelly's birthday. My very good friend Mandy decided to come last minute, she was also employed there as a bartender. We were seated right next to the bar and had to continuously go up to the bar and get drinks because our server was slow. I actually waited 40 minutes for a mai tai. When it was brought out to the table, it was in a pop class, and it was yellow. No garnish no nothing, it looked like Mountain Dew. Our food took over an hour to come out, and my actual order of one sushi roll took an hour and a half to come out. Everyone had their steaks and was more than halfway done eating before I even got my order after I asked for it. My sushi also tasted like it was warm like it was sitting underneath the heat lamps. I wasn't thrilled, but I kept my mouth shut because I know Mandy worked there and I didn't want to cause any trouble and she kept on making excuses about how they were busy, she was trying to stick up for the place. The people in our party sitting across we're not so accommodating. They justly complained and we were told the waitress didn't wanna wait on our table anymore. When the other couples food did come out, their crab was cold, and it was not cut like they asked them to so they sent it back. I will post pics of the stringy shoelace calamari, it was literally one gross piece. So unappetizing. My friend Mandy went over to talk to the manager and the owner. Bobby proceeded to humiliate her by chastising her in front of the entire restaurant, including our group. We were 6 feet away from her. She was crying and they fired her in front of everybody. I have never seen anything so unprofessional my life. I walked up very calmly, because I did not want to escalate the situation and Bobby told me that he was in the middle of something and shoos me a wait with his hand. It was extremely condescending and I was floored, but I didn't say anything because again I didn't want to escalate the situation. Apparently Bobby doesn't want my business and quite frankly, I have no desire to spend my money there. I could go on and on with many more small screw up's, but you get the idea. I've only been here twice - and I don't know why. The food is outstanding. Some think it's pricey - I think an 8oz filet for $52 is reasonable if someone cooks it to perfection and serves with asparagus too! My friend and me had a side of mushrooms which it was a huge assortment & delicious. Our other friend had a pasta that was delicious and she took much of it home for lunch. Our server Renee was outstanding, always coming to inquire about another drink, etc. We asked our steaks to be cooked Medium but close to rare, NO blood. I couldn't have cooked it better myself. Tried 6 items *Raw oysters, fresh, delicious, large *Chowder, better than most, not straight up NE style, not quite brothy, but not that fake-mashed potatoes thickness you get in the Midwest. Large chunks of clams. V good flavor. *Garlic Asparagus, decent, a little over cooked, had one woody stalk. *Blake's brined wings, unique flavor that was very good, probably cooked perfectly, while I like mine a little crisper, we did not make that special request. *California Roll, better than most. Extra creamy due to the extra large piece of fresh avocado. *crab Cakes, about as good as anywhere in the area; the flavor was spot on, fresh, delicate, not lump but flake, with very little filler. We were looking for a friendly, dog-friendly outdoor restaurant space, but we found so much more! The atmosphere and view was so great. The staff was so friendly and welcoming, and the food was some of the best we've ever had. Kudos to the chef! You should jar up and sell that salsa, by the way. And our little dog, Huckleberry, was welcomed as a guest as well, even offering a bowl of water for him. Top notch experience from start to finish. Valet was awesome to help with the limited parking. Drinks and food were incredible, truly a level above most restaurants in the area at a lower cost than upscale restaurants surrounding Detroit. We tried Hook for a birthday dinner. We ordered sushi appetizer and they brought two plates of sushi which weren't ours.The server left one dish on our table as she tried to figure out who's sushi was on our table. They came back,walked around in a big circle and dropped it at the table behind us. That is so wrong.. I ordered clam chowder soup,never received it! I decided to have a non alcoholic beer and the waiter says we have two choices. I order my beer and 5 minutes later he says they have none in stock. Friday night at 6:00?? My wife ordered Ceviche and the fish was old and she didn't even eat it,they did take it off the bill though.Order scallops and the food was warm at best,it must of been sitting for 5 minutes before delivery.Two guest ordered the Salmon and it was not hot and the accompaniments were terrible.They also removed the soup off our bill.Way overpriced for the quality of food. Food was below average, better sushi at Kroger and the worst part was the lack of service and being out of most of the menu a hour after opening. She comes back and says they are out of the crab cakes which she didn't say earlier when she explained some of the things that were out of season. We waited 50 minutes for mussels!!! Chef Bobby did a beautiful renovation job from top to bottom on this once run-down St. Clair Shores dockside restaurant. The menu is creative and the food is delicious while not terribly expensive. Since it is a new restaurant with new staff, you have to give them a little grace while they figure things out. They just opened their doors and are slammed nightly. I'm guessing that they were not prepared for such heavy crowds so quickly. Once the staff gets the lay of the land and the chef gets the menu down, this restaurant will be a force to be reckoned with regardless of the season. read more

Looks great. Popped in today--- sat at the bar which was not full. Was served water from bud boy. Had to ask for a menu after a sitting for 10 minutes with our water. Sat another 10 minutes with our menus-- not one acknowledgment or word from the two servers. It was odd and uncomfortable-- we left. Paid $5 for valet and some water. I ordered the Filet Mignon oscar style... a $60 steak. I haven't sent back food in years but tonight that changed. I ordered it medium rare and the steak was literally well done, I've never seen anything like it. My new steak took over 15m to come and the waitress recommended we just get it to go. Not sure who thought it would be a good idea to book a rock band for Father's Day. It was extremely loud. So loud that the tables by the stage went unused. We had a reservation and we're seated late. It took 10-15 minutes for a server to greet our table and take our drink orders. Before the drinks came, we decided that we couldn't stand the loud music and having to shout at each other in conversation. So we got up and left. As did at least two other parties that we spoke with as we waited for our valet. The remodel is nice. Didn't get a chance to try the food. Service was slow. Food prices seemed a bit high, and the noise from the stage was absolutely terrible. Save the loud rock music for after 10pm on a Friday or Saturday night. read more

I had moved away from my home town of Grosse Pointe Shores for about 17 years and came home to be disappointed by a community that has been devoid of new and unique with quality and solid service in our food establishments. SCS has been kind of a stagnant, going through the motions type of restaurant community for too long. It is about time we have a place with a higher end, new and fresh look, clean and a welcoming restaurant with a unique twist. Well Bobby and Tom have done it!~ Welcome to SCS Hook. I have eaten there a couple of times thus far and have explored a couple of the unique dishes they have to offer. Hats off to Chef Bobby and his line chefs. I love unique and welcoming comfort flavors and to bring them together is a gift of a fine pallet and expert chef. My first venture out I had the sushi and the pasta. The fusion flavor of gaeng keow wan (green curry) in the mussels was indeed a pleasant surprise. Perhaps that is what I like best about fusion cuisine.. the surprise of unique flavors coupled with our own favorite dishes and flavors deliver with a burst of surprise on the pallet. First off, the food was great, but everything else is lacking. They are training new staff and we waited for a very long time before a waitress came over to take our drink orders. We waited so long we went to the bar to get our waters ourselves. The bar has very limited choices, no premium blended scotch so don't expect Chivas, Black Label etc. The Air conditioning is horrendous. When it came on we felt we were in a blast chiller. Bring a blanket! My wife's food came out 6-7 minutes before mine did. This is inexcusable, so bring something to occupy your time if you are the one waiting for your dinner. We may go back after they have had a chance to train the staff but we will either be sitting on the patio or at the bar, the sub zero HVAC experience was excruciatingly painful. read more

First time visit. Wasn't planning on lobster, until I saw the Lob-tober-Fest specials. I chose 2 8 oz tails + fingerling potatoes and vegetable medley for $75. Vegetable medley was mushy summer squash and zucchini with a few tomatoes swimming in oil; overcooked! Fingerling potatoes were tasty. I only ate 1 of the tails, took the other to go. The next day I looked closer at the tail, it seemed rather small, so I weighed it. I expected some shrinkage after cooking, but it was only 4.9 oz Disappointed! Wait staff very helpful and efficient. Carrot cake didn't taste like any carrot cake I've ever had before. Frosting was more buttercream than cream cheese. Again disappointed. Will try again, but not for lobster. Fish and chips, partially good, again the fish part only. The slaw wasn't great and neither were the fries. We got there right when the opened, I'm not sure how we were served fries that seemed an hour old. Dessert was delicious and plated well , had the key lime and the chocolate cherry tortes, at least those were worth it! Not impressed. Obviously it has an atmosphere geared to a younger crowd, which I understand. The thing I'm not particularly wild about is the food. I expect a whole lot more from Chef Bobby. Service was good, and the food isn't bad, it's just not great. Definitely way over priced, and not a lot of food. I will try it one more time, but that will be the last time if it isn't better. I've had friends that have had bad experiences, but I will be my own judge. Parking is ridiculous, and again another money grab. Very nosy, and I guess that's the new thing, because I have noticed more and more restaurants like that, so again, a younger crowd atmosphere. Stopped in this past week with my mom for some Jumbo scallops, Linquine Alle Vongole, Volcano roll and bread pudding. Everything was well portioned and flavorful. I was surprised they had kid menu options that my son was able to order from. Even his burger and fries looked great!
