I love hanging out at Hook Hall DC. I've been here a few times for different types of events. The space holds a good amount of people which is nice and they have an outdoor bar and seating for the warmer days! I was here for a music event yesterday and this place was a whole vibe. I've had their food in the past which is your typical American food but sometimes food vendors come through depending on the event that's being held. Parking in the area isn't the best but I've been lucky to find street parking for the most part.
Hook Hall is not the move for a special event. I planned an event here for the cherry blossom theme, booking and paying weeks in advance for a cabana. I had conversations with Hook Hall's "Moments Makers" team about how special and important this was to me. Well, let me tell you, they did not make my moment. I got a call a few days before my party, telling me that the cabanas would not be cherry blossom themed but would still have the winter theme. Disappointing, but fine. I can't move my event in that timeframe. We get there and I was given one tent nearly 30 people. There were no cabanas anywhere. I was practically in tears. My friend who has visited Hook Hall several teams was shocked, as she had never seen the tents before. She said it's always been cabanas. Other friends had noted poor experiences here, so it's clearly a trend. We had to beg to use another one. Interestingly enough, cherry blossom cabanas were available two days later. We had to beg for service which was absolutely abysmal. Not all that friendly and extremely slow, with forgotten orders. I stuck to champagne and heard the mixed drinks weren't bad. I tried a pretzel and it was not good at all. It was clearly frozen and was served pretty much in the same state. Yes, this place is cute and if you just go and hang without planning an event here, it's probably fine. But the management, Moment Makers team, and the staff really did not make my moment at all. I hope they are able to replace the entire team, because it is a fun place but the execution is awful. Website is also terrible, which is uncalled for in 2023. If you want to feel like an afterthought and understand that you might not get anything you were promised, Hook Hall is the place. If you want detail-oriented and great service, Hook Hall is NOT the place.
Decided to book this place for their hot tub which is $300 and they call me the night before to tell me it's not working. Come to find out this place doesn't have the authority to operate a hot tub in DC so they cancelled my reservation and asked if I'd like a cabana instead which isn't a third of the hot tub costs. The operations manager Jackson tells me that he would give me a bar tab with the remaining money from the hot tub on a bar tab, ok cool. I purchased one round of shots which was only $60. He advised me on the phone that the cabana was only $100. That's $160 total. I've contacted him to get a refund and no response. Don't book this place because it's a damn scam. The place was empty and there wasn't shit today outside of Jenga. My experience was honestly awful outside the free champagne. We left immediately after and didn't even use the entire 2 hour slot. I want my got damn money back!!!!!
Checked out this establishment because I was attending an event. Unfortunately, I couldn't try other items on the menu because they were only selling brunch items at the time. Not being a big fan of breakfast foods, I settled on the cheese quesadilla. There really was nothing special about it other than it probably was the lowest priced item on the menu ($6). I would say the venue is pretty cool because the current theme was ski chalet. Overall, I would rank it as mediocre, but I'll have to go back to try more items on the menu.
Hook hall seems to be clutch for a chill spot to hang out from midday into the night. Our party had a fun time, but thats mostly because we booked a cabana for the initial part of our visit. Its not a necessity, as there is free 'garden' table seating (on a first come basis), but if you plan on being there for a while on a really hot day or rainy day, or windy day, you'll be much more comfortable in a cabana. Plus, the cabana comes with personal table service, but the garden seating is only self serve. They also have a "tea room" and "captain's quarter", which are larger cabanas that are meant to host up to 10 to 20 ppl. This seems like a fun option if you want the privacy, but it seems a little secluded off, and not too great if you like to people-watch. Also, based on other reviews and my own experience, the self service portion should be a little more clearly laid out for guests. Seems like the outdoor bar and the indoor bar only serve certain things...and I didn't understand the algorithm of which bar serves what and when to whom. I tried to order a few old fashion FROZEN drinks (which is on the menu) to treat my friends to one last round before we head out..but Hook Hall is not making them..so maybe that should be displayed somewhere or taken off the menu. The food is "bar food", but honestly much better than expected. The service was kind, and attentive, but I could see how it could become 'wobbly' if it got really busy. And the music selection could be a little more diverse overall. My party mentioned that the bathrooms were very clean, so that's a huge plus. Overall, I like the decor and the different themes...some are better than others, but its fun concept. Street parking is available on Georgia Ave and side streets, but may be a safer bet to Uber, Lyft, Taxi, etc. Overall, Highly recommend trying out this place out.
Visited Hook Hall after work on a Tuesday. The outdoor space was super cute and the drink I ordered was good. I also ordered the nacho fries which were decent. I was disappointed with the food selection and portion sizes. My friends ordered tacos and they had to be the smaller tacos I've ever seen. They don't have waiters so you have to order at the bar. They also didn't really have a happy hour menu or discount. I will say although I'm only giving 2 stars, it does seem like a fun place to hang out and play games with a group while grabbing a few drinks just not a place I'd want to come for food or to relax after work.
*Updated review* The Cherry Blossom Experience going on right now is worth checking out! My friend was celebrating her birthday here and reserved a cabana. There's a max of 6 people allowed. It came with a bottle of champagne. You can order from the menu - there are some cool cherry blossom themed drinks! I tried the Japanese whiskey cocktail - really good. The miso wings are delicious. Didn't care for the sauce that it came with. Our server, Monisa was awesome. Kudos! If you want to check out this IG pics worthy experience, you have until May 30th!
If you are considering hosting an event at this establishment then DON'T. They make you pay a ton of money upfront for the bar guarantee, do not give you quality service and will not set you up for success. I traveled from Atlanta in hopes to throw a premier event and feel like I got scammed. Since they already had my money, I had to go with the flow. Here's the email that I sent to Natasha (manager) post event with all my concerns (PROCEED WITH CAUTION!): Thank you for letting me host my event at your space. I wanted to address the following concerns in detail: -refund deposit should show $3000 not $2000; my original receipt (attachment 1) already has $1000 charge for a refund so the bar minimum getting dropped by $2000 should be added to the original $1000 making it $3000 -5 security were billed at $30/hour for 6 hours. Only 3 showed up. Also the event was not set up until 3:30pm and ended at 8:15pm. Security line item should be reduced to roughly $450 give or take -The limited security hindered the team from monitoring patrons from the outside that were coming in. There were dogs brought from outside in which some of my guest mentioned they were allergic too and left. Also, there were patrons from the outside that brought their kids in and they were running around playing tag while the event was going on (kind of killed the vibe). No where in my contract does it say that animals or kids can roam the building while the event in which was private is taking place. -By no means was the floor plan followed which was evident by the way the staff was arranging the furniture and when asked about the floor plan was clueless. This included the stage and long bar by the entrance which was initially not set up at all/in the wrong place. There were also people still eating with children past the event starting. There seemed to be a lack of concern that my event was even taking place. -To expedite set up, I assisted with moving furniture. This was shocking being that the floor plan overly stressed to get back to you and your team. We had to cancel the formal part of the book signing because of the delayed set up on addition to patrons that were wrapping up eating their food. -The speakers were no were to be found initially and ended up having technical difficulties in which one of the speakers were not even working. This further delayed starting the event because the dj's were confused on whether or not their personal equipment was malfunctioning. Lastly, it would have been nice to have my event on the website or posted on the story as I see others are (I see the family day is on the website which makes sense about the kids running around my event).

I love Hook Hall, and it is always so much fun! This Saturday was one of the best times I've ever had here--excellent ambiance and fabulous drinks! Also our bartenders, Kel and Niaria are two of the most wonderful people we have ever met and made our experience the best one I have ever had at any outdoor beer hall in DC. I cannot recommend it enough. I will be coming back here time and time again. read more
This place is beautiful! Absolutely gorgeous!! But this is a place to go with friends. Started with just me and Alex and for some reason we were finding it hard to hang out it just the two of us (this is never usually a problem) ... we think it may bc we could never get quite comfortable - hard benches and no backs on the seats, legs a little cramped. But then our friends joined us about 45 mins later and it was a great time. There are other seating areas with backs so I would recommend asking for those if available! Service was sensational. Every server was very friendly and attentive. The food was good (over priced but good). Wine selection is ok. House wines are not good but they have many other drinks but you will pay significantly more for them. For palpable wine I will pay the extra. The cocktails are very good too. We'll made, DC prices so not unreasonable. There is something for everyone All around would definitely come back again and this is definitely a destination for a day drinking with friends day! read more

I was NOT impressed whatsoever with my Prepaid experience for the Viking Hut. In accordance with the protocol, we arrived to the venue promptly at 1:30 for our Saturday reservation (a time that wasn't chosen by us, but assigned to us so we obliged). Upon arrival, we were told that there would be two sources of heat provided - the heating lamp with two settings in the ceiling and the table side gas heater for additional warmth. I was happy to hear this since it was below freezing/freezing rain and we were essentially sitting outside. As we were finagling with the heat lamp to turn on the second ring, our waiter approached and we asked if we could have the table heater turned on as well. We quickly learn that the heat lamp is not working properly, so gave up on that source of heat and anxiously waited for the table heater to get back. Our waiter, Torrin (bless his heart), came back with some very disappointing news that they had ran out of gas for the table heater so that was a no go as well.... Now, I'm no business manager, BUT I believe a 1:30 reservation is near the beginning of the workday :(. They shouldn't be running out of supplies that early, Especially in below freezing weather where the main selling point is an outdoor experience. Torrin, who really tried to take on responsibilities that were out of his control, did what he could to make our experience more enjoyable (one of two saving graces for my review). We never spoke to a manager, nor got a sheer apology for the lack of preparation/accommodation that was being provided to us. Did I mention this was a prepaid experience and we are here for 2.5 hours to drop hundreds of more $$$ on food/drink?!? Torrin found and provided us blankets; he gave us the drink specials and recommended some good bites. The food and drinks were pretty good (second saving grace) - the mulled wine was nice and hot unlike our heated hut. The fries were banging, pretzel was nice and hearty, and the dry rubbed wings were delicious as well. Our pizza aired on the extra crispy/burnt side, but overall the food was enjoyable. We asked to move inside on several different occasions to no avail. After 2 long hours, another employee came over - who we presumed was the manager, and asked how we were (we later found out she was not the manager, but a server as well). After speaking with her, we were able to spend our last 15 minutes indoors. The staff at hook hall is great, but I really do have to question upper management and how this all is being ran. My party of six was so excited that we finally got off the waitlist to be able to enjoy the Viking experience, but it is such a shame it had to be tarnished in such a way that the customers don't matter once they make a prepayment. read more

We love coming here for the drinks and of course they fun unique outdoor seating design. They even added a secret hidden door to a whole cocktail experience. I don't drink alcoholic so the bartender was able to accommodate and created some mocktails for me that were quite tasty! Also some nights have karaoke in the main inside hall -- now that's a real treat! I was here twice: once for the outdoor cherry blossom themed tables and the second for the hidden door cocktail experience. Overall a great recommendation for a fun night out with friends! read more

Hats off to Hook Hall for doing an amazing job creatively adapting to pandemic conditions and creating a great experience for folks to come out in winter and enjoy a firepit, sip on mulled wine, and eat good food in their Winter Viking Village. There was something for all price points where you could reserve a firepit for $15 or spend a little more money for a private cabana-like structure. The service and atmosphere were great. We enjoyed their Bavarian pretzels and pizza. I would definitely go back for their well-situated outdoor space! read more

SUPER CUTE AMBIENCE! If anything will bring me back to this spot, it is the cabanas & decor. Perfect for a girls night out. Menu - the many changes based on the "theme" so some food items you see on Yelp may not be on the current menu - check out their website for the most recent menu. I went during the Cherry Blossom "theme". The menu is pretty limited, but there are options for all (vegan-friendly options available). I had the spicy miso honey glazed wings and a side order of fries. They gave me a lot of food & it was pretty decent. Nothing to rave about. I had friends who order the chicken tenders (be mindful that they do not have honey mustard). Also, had a friend who enjoyed the ahi tuna poke bowl. The prices are reasonable and available on their website. Cabanas - We had a bottle of champagne that was "complimentary" with our cabana (you have to pay for these cabanas). Make reservations ahead of time. Be prepared to pay for it upon reserving. The cabanas are heated but dress according to the weather. Parking - SUPER HARD at night. If you can Uber, do so. Don't get caught slipping in someone's neighborhood & get a ticket. Be mindful of the signs. Service - the service was OK. Our waiter wasn't horrible, but he wasn't super attentive. They were pretty busy the night I went. However, our food came out really fast, and it was hot! Overall, this spot is worth the visit - even if it is just to explore the cabanas. read more

The real draw in of this place is ambiance and themed spaces. The cherry blossom (current) theme did not disappoint. The designer of these spaces, and marketing team really should walk away with the kudos here! Beautifully decorated, secluded, and the fire kept us warm on a gloomy day. The drinks? Did the job! I enjoyed the Samurai Punch, and all other members of my party were happy with their choices (and liquor to mixer ration). The staff? Great! Super polite, professional, and on top of everything. The food? The only reason I'm knocking it a star. The chicken club/sandwich was so subpar. Burnt bun, pickles were not listed as a topping on the menu otherwise I would have gotten them without (I hate them! Lol), chicken was tender but fatty. The shining food item was the two pound pretzel, so much in fact, I'll be back just for that alone. read more

Went here while visiting the city with my hubby for lunch and it was sooooo good! The environment & vibe was amazing. We had a few drinks, the only downside I had while being there would be my drink had WAY MORE ice in it than it did liquid. I paid $14 for basically ice. *BEWARE* BEWARE*BEWARE AVOID RESERVING A CABANA AT HOOK HALL. They charge a $99 fee to sit outside, with inadequate heating making it uncomfortable. Despite the confirmation email stating the deposit secures the booking and will be applied to the final bill, staff seemed unaware. The manager (Aymeric) on duty the night of Jan 14th dismissed our concerns, offering no resolution. He informed us that the confirmation email was the final bill in question (BULLSHIT). He was a horrible manager and managed to lose customers that would have brought a lot of business to them if we would have had a great experience. Our server, Shonte, was the only bright spot. She was the only one that tried to smooth over everything after our encounter with the manager. Additionally, they lack takeout containers, the credit card machine doesn't offer a tipping option, and the servers need better winter attire for outdoor service in the cold. read more

Came here with a large group of friends for a birthday party. We booked a cabana for private seating, but since we were located at the tail end near the bar, there were plenty of guests walking through our area which was a little frustrating since several of of guests constantly had to move their seats to make room. Loved the fact that it was pet friendly, so our Corgi just chilled on the swinging cushioned chair the entire time. There was a nice variety of beers and mixed drinks on the menu. Unfortunately due to COVID, the kitchen was closed. Luckily they allowed outside food to be brought in, so pizza and beers? The staff were very attentive and didn't miss anything from our several large orders. Would definitely return here! read more
The Oasis space created outside is perfect to hang out with friends and your loved ones. You can actually forget you are in the city, it feels like vacation. The cabanas are fun and semi private which is perfect, especially during these different times. The staff is friendly and attentive. The drinks are refreshing and the food is descent and filling. Why doesn't this place have 300 reviews yet?? It's amazing. The inside is huge and spacious, full of cornhole and ping pong and huge bar serving cocktails, crushed, and draft beer. Good beer list, nice outdoor sitting, great Cabañas for big groups. The cocktail menu seems interesting as well. I am a big rum lover and I saw a good selection. The ambiance is cool and young, cool indie music (although the music was a bit too loud for good conversations) and plenty of games. I loved the fact that babies and fidos are welcome. read more

Hook Hall is so much fun!!! We rented an indoor cabana for a surprise graduation celebration. The cabana included a bottle of champagne with the large sparkler. We all ordered drinks and an array of bar food/appetizers. We were all a huge fan of the two pound pretzel with queso and stone ground mustard. After our two hour block was up, we went outside to the courtyard area. We played cornhole, enjoyed the music and great atmosphere. Really fun place to hang out with your friends! read more

So we made and paid for a reservation a month ago for an outdoor cabana for 9 people. When we got to there today, Saturday 6/5, they told us because of the new theme we had been moved indoors but we were never notified of this change before we walked in for our reservation. The inside was pretty dead but it took about 20 min to get waited on by our server. And it then took another 20 min to actually get our drinks, even tho the bar was dead empty (pictured). We honestly thought about just walking up to the bar to order instead. It seems like they might need more bartenders (only 2 today), especially on the weekends. We also had a few issues with our drinks as well. I ordered Pineapple Crushes the entire but we got completely different drinks throughout the day (pictured). The same thing happened with the Moroccan Mule. My friend ordered an Orange Crush and there was not even a taste of orange in it, just soda. I do not recommend getting this here. Save the orange crushes for Baltimore! I was super excited to come here because it was my first time but honestly I was so disappointed. I'm not sure I'll want to come back. My friends have been here a bunch and they said it seems to be going downhill. Not sure if it's just because of COVID but still said to be disappointed. read more

I enjoyed Hook Hall! Went for my sister's birthday, she enjoyed herself. I liked the drink menu, however the food could have been better. The tea rooms were amazing!!! Nice spot for a special occasion (bridal shower, birthday...). read more
