I am giving three stars based on the vibe and ambiance of this establishment. It is absolutely beautiful--the setup is amazing! It is a really nice place and way to celebrate the cherry blossoms and catch a really cool outside vibe! However, I was not impressed with the level of service that we received yesterday, nor was I impressed with the food itself. We sat down at 11:15am and our server did not come to our table for almost 30 minutes. We were so grateful that a few other servers stopped by to fix and move our umbrella because the sun was unkind (thank you ladies). Everyone was nice, but service was exceptionally slow. When we place our orders, our food came out and everything we ordered was completely underwhelming. My black bean burger was...thick mush. My daughters chicken sandwich was a bunch of grey, white and brown colored chicken that seemed to come from different parts of the breast and my friends poke bowl was not great (see pictures). We did not finish our food and we decided not to order the bottomless because we just were not impressed from the start. For those who have not visited, be aware that if you book a garden table you do not have backs to your seats and the table you eat on isn't at the same level as your body. These are not necessarily cons, but just be mindful of the environment. I would say this place is probably best for drinks alone and not food. read more

This place is beautiful! Absolutely gorgeous!! But this is a place to go with friends. Started with just me and Alex and for some reason we were finding it hard to hang out it just the two of us (this is never usually a problem) ... we think it may bc we could never get quite comfortable - hard benches and no backs on the seats, legs a little cramped. But then our friends joined us about 45 mins later and it was a great time. There are other seating areas with backs so I would recommend asking for those if available! Service was sensational. Every server was very friendly and attentive. The food was good (over priced but good). Wine selection is ok. House wines are not good but they have many other drinks but you will pay significantly more for them. For palpable wine I will pay the extra. The cocktails are very good too. We'll made, DC prices so not unreasonable. There is something for everyone All around would definitely come back again and this is definitely a destination for a day drinking with friends day! read more

I was NOT impressed whatsoever with my Prepaid experience for the Viking Hut. In accordance with the protocol, we arrived to the venue promptly at 1:30 for our Saturday reservation (a time that wasn't chosen by us, but assigned to us so we obliged). Upon arrival, we were told that there would be two sources of heat provided - the heating lamp with two settings in the ceiling and the table side gas heater for additional warmth. I was happy to hear this since it was below freezing/freezing rain and we were essentially sitting outside. As we were finagling with the heat lamp to turn on the second ring, our waiter approached and we asked if we could have the table heater turned on as well. We quickly learn that the heat lamp is not working properly, so gave up on that source of heat and anxiously waited for the table heater to get back. Our waiter, Torrin (bless his heart), came back with some very disappointing news that they had ran out of gas for the table heater so that was a no go as well.... Now, I'm no business manager, BUT I believe a 1:30 reservation is near the beginning of the workday :(. They shouldn't be running out of supplies that early, Especially in below freezing weather where the main selling point is an outdoor experience. Torrin, who really tried to take on responsibilities that were out of his control, did what he could to make our experience more enjoyable (one of two saving graces for my review). We never spoke to a manager, nor got a sheer apology for the lack of preparation/accommodation that was being provided to us. Did I mention this was a prepaid experience and we are here for 2.5 hours to drop hundreds of more $$$ on food/drink?!? Torrin found and provided us blankets; he gave us the drink specials and recommended some good bites. The food and drinks were pretty good (second saving grace) - the mulled wine was nice and hot unlike our heated hut. The fries were banging, pretzel was nice and hearty, and the dry rubbed wings were delicious as well. Our pizza aired on the extra crispy/burnt side, but overall the food was enjoyable. We asked to move inside on several different occasions to no avail. After 2 long hours, another employee came over - who we presumed was the manager, and asked how we were (we later found out she was not the manager, but a server as well). After speaking with her, we were able to spend our last 15 minutes indoors. The staff at hook hall is great, but I really do have to question upper management and how this all is being ran. My party of six was so excited that we finally got off the waitlist to be able to enjoy the Viking experience, but it is such a shame it had to be tarnished in such a way that the customers don't matter once they make a prepayment. read more

I don't drink alcoholic so the bartender was able to accommodate and created some mocktails for me that were quite tasty! Also some nights have karaoke in the main inside hall -- now that's a real treat! Hats off to Hook Hall for doing an amazing job creatively adapting to pandemic conditions and creating a great experience for folks to come out in winter and enjoy a firepit, sip on mulled wine, and eat good food in their Winter Viking Village. There was something for all price points where you could reserve a firepit for $15 or spend a little more money for a private cabana-like structure. The service and atmosphere were great. I really wanted to like this place since I've heard so many great things about it. Honestly, the place and experience was extremely underwhelming. We ordered a cabana experience, expecting to be outside where the decor is much more bright and inviting but instead, we ended up in a tiny hut inside that wasn't pretty and felt dirty. It was extremely hot inside as well. Hopefully this place takes some notes from guests and revamps the inside space so it's just as appealing as the outdoor space. And hopefully they invest in some fans or small air conditioners because it was uncomfortably hot for most of the visit. The waiter we had was named Ashley and she was amazing and the only reason I didn't give the place one star. She explained that Hook Hall was previously only a bar without the food and that's why the menu offerings were so slim. I tried the spicy harissa wings which were tolerable but not that great. I heard that the pretzel and lamb pizza were good though. Their Long Island Iced tea was good and the table came with a complimentary bottle of champagne, which was nice. This place is a huge warehouse with lots of seating and offers games for guests to play, although we didn't. After our meal, we went outside to check out the decor and take some pictures, which I think is the main draw for this spot. I had the spicy miso honey glazed wings and a side order of fries. They gave me a lot of food & it was pretty decent. Nothing to rave about. I had friends who order the chicken tenders (be mindful that they do not have honey mustard). Also, had a friend who enjoyed the ahi tuna poke bowl. The prices are reasonable and available on their website. Cabanas - We had a bottle of champagne that was "complimentary" with our cabana (you have to pay for these cabanas). Make reservations ahead of time. Be prepared to pay for it upon reserving. The cabanas are heated but dress according to the weather. Parking - SUPER HARD at night. If you can Uber, do so. Don't get caught slipping in someone's neighborhood & get a ticket. Be mindful of the signs. Service - the service was OK. Our waiter wasn't horrible, but he wasn't super attentive. Despite the confirmation email stating the deposit secures the booking and will be applied to the final bill, staff seemed unaware. The manager (Aymeric) on duty the night of Jan 14th dismissed our concerns, offering no resolution. He informed us that the confirmation email was the final bill in question (BULLSHIT). He was a horrible manager and managed to lose customers that would have brought a lot of business to them if we would have had a great experience. Our server, Shonte, was the only bright spot. She was the only one that tried to smooth over everything after our encounter with the manager. Additionally, they lack takeout containers, the credit card machine doesn't offer a tipping option, and the servers need better winter attire for outdoor service in the cold. read more

We enjoyed the slow hip hop beats, tvs surrounding the interior showing college football, and most of all, the cool brick walls with candle wax dripping down. Behind the bar there is a second space, which in summer was a patio, but with winter upon us, it's been transformed into a cozy chalet. It's enclosed with fire pits and thick blankets draped over couches. Soft string lights give the place a romantic glow, and the menu features hot mulled wine. They serve it way too hot (haven't you guys heard of the McDonalds coffee incident? This stuff is steamin'), but after letting it cool for 20 minutes or so, it made for a fun treat. Major bonus points to them for being on the DC drink passport, which is what drew us in and earned us a buy one get one free lager. read more

This place was huge which is nice because there's a lot of spaces and it's not as crowded. However, the bars are very disastrous. There are 2 bars, inside the well-lit area and inside the warehouse looking area which are connected to each other. Regarding the bars, they literally didn't have anything. We ordered a few beers off of the menu and they had none of them available. What kind of bar/beer garden tells their customer they didn't have half of the beer list?! I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed the experience at Hook Hall. This was my first visit and I loved the outdoor space and how group friendly the space is. It seems that you only need a reservation for the cabanas which all seemed to be occupied when I showed up on a Saturday around 5pm. The outdoor bar area was a little chaotic and busy, but I was able to get a few drinks after a little bit of time. They have a pretty good selection of food drinks including cocktails and beer. There are plenty of outdoor games such as table tennis and indoors there's giant chess and arcade games. They also have a ton of tvs on the inside playing sports as well. If you're looking for a sports bar you can find it here, but if you're looking to have a friend gathering or a pre-game or party, it seems like this would also be a great place. read more

He was barely around. * other workers don't seem to want to help. We ask for anything from anyone in a bright pink shirt they say "I'll get your server". * we ordered food and drinks. One of my friends ordered a bacon egg and cheese and it arrived with no bacon. Took a long time to get this corrected since we didn't have a server checking in or other people willing to help. * Drinks were missing/late for periods of time (along with our server) so it was hard to get those festive "Cheers!" in and order more. * tried to order from the bar, and was told we need to order from our server. * napkins, silverware, straws missing * a runner dropped off food and we asked if he could take the ice bucket that the champagne was in so we could have more room for the food on the table. he said "I'll get your server" before we said we needed the space for food and gave us some attitude when taking the bucket. * at no point during our time there did anyone come by to pick up empty cups or plates. * we wanted to pay and leave, and again no Isaiah in sight and "I'll get your server" from others. * husband lightened the mood for my group of friends and started yelling from the cabana (video attached) and that was the only way we were able to get help from the wonderful and cheerful Monisa. I wish she had helped us the whole time! She helped us pay our bills and even picked up some dishes to take back (as a server should). She mentioned that the tips are shared which makes me wonder why nobody wanted to help us. *on my way out, I asked if I could take a picture at empty cabana swing. The lady who seemed to be protecting them for the next party said "fine, but don't touch anything they're all sanitized for the next party"... Ok where were you earlier for mine then? Anyways don't waste your money for these people to act like they don't want your business. I would definitely say there can be improvement on the over all concept. My friend and I had a cabana reserved. The location didn't have any music or DJ. You're pretty much listening to your own conversation & the surrounding noise of the other patrons. There was a TV in our cabana but we no control of changing channels without assistance from a very busy waitress. The food selection is slim. It is not an venue to come hungry; only to hang out with friends & drink if that's your thing. My personal suggestions would be to have a DJ, improve/ expand the food menu, and maybe offer hookah. The service wasn't the best ( in regards to getting our food), our waitress was pretty busy but her attentive customer service was great. Had an amazing experience at Hook Hall while celebrating a friend's birthday. We booked an 18-person Cherry Blossom Emperor's Quarters group seating area several weeks in advance for $250 which only reserved the table and one bottle of celebratory champagne. They allowed us to bring cupcakes and balloons to celebrate, and we ordered delicious drinks and food to all share. They were super COVID friendly, even separating our group into tables of 6 within our cabana, and separating different parties by several feet of distance and decor for safety. They offered so many fun and seasonal drinks - my favorites were the frozen cherry margarita and the samurai punch. We got a 2 pound Bavarian pretzel, festival fries, and edamame appetizers - all came out quick and were tasty! Would love to come back and try their next theme soon :) read more

It may not be located in the most savory neighborhood, but that's how you know you're in the right place! I've only been there during the cherry blossom festival so that was their theme, but apparently they re dress and redecorate based on themes and seasons. Also, DOGS ARE WELCOME!!! Cherry blossom themed drinks were all great and decently priced! We didn't try any of the food but I'm sure it'll be worth it. We sat by the fire tables and while we wish there were backs to the seats, it didn't deter from the fun. We will definitely return again when they switch up their themes again. read more

So we made and paid for a reservation a month ago for an outdoor cabana for 9 people. When we got to there today, Saturday 6/5, they told us because of the new theme we had been moved indoors but we were never notified of this change before we walked in for our reservation. The inside was pretty dead but it took about 20 min to get waited on by our server. And it then took another 20 min to actually get our drinks, even tho the bar was dead empty (pictured). We honestly thought about just walking up to the bar to order instead. It seems like they might need more bartenders (only 2 today), especially on the weekends. We also had a few issues with our drinks as well. I ordered Pineapple Crushes the entire but we got completely different drinks throughout the day (pictured). The same thing happened with the Moroccan Mule. My friend ordered an Orange Crush and there was not even a taste of orange in it, just soda. I do not recommend getting this here. Save the orange crushes for Baltimore! I was super excited to come here because it was my first time but honestly I was so disappointed. I'm not sure I'll want to come back. I came this past weekend for a holiday party for the first. First things first, hook hall is HUGE. I did not expect such a big venue when I walked in. It's not just a bar it really is a "hall." They have games spread out, including a human size chess board, and TVs all around. They also have an outdoor bar area that is enclosed for the winter, which is nice. I ordered the cucumber cooler, which was really refreshing. It was made with gin and basil and was a nice flavorful drink. Their drink prices are comparable to DC prices. They also allow dogs in the venue, which is rare in DC and great for pet owners. I enjoyed my overall visit there. However, I do have one critique. Because it's so big, more people can fit in than a usual bar, BUT they only have ONE bar in the main hall. And the bar area is the size of an average bar, with only two to three bartenders working at a given time. This is insane for a venue of their size. The bar gets packed so quickly and even if you are there midday on a Saturday, you will find yourself waiting in a pretty long line for a drink. So fair warning. Other than that, it is a nice addition to pet worth. Hopefully, they will put another bar area in the main hall soonish. read more

I attended the Candle Making and Cocktail event on 11.27.22 at Hook Hall. I was quite disappointed with the event as a whole. It began when I entered the building and was greeted by the hostess who weren't aware of the event. Next, the facilitator running in late and not addressing event attendees who were on time for the event. Next, children running around within the space for the event which is supposed to be a calming experience. Lastly, the tickets weren't even checked at the door which means anyone could have walked in and sat down for the event. The facilitator was nice however didn't provide an experience that I thought I would receive based on the event information provided for the event. I do understand that their were a number variables ( children running around, loud music, etc.) within the event space that effected her providing that planned experience for her guest. The price for the event did not equal the experience that I received yesterday. read more

It's a very large space with many TVs I look forward to coming here for something like a national championship game of some sort. The bar outside has quite a few beers on tap and the bartender I had outside was super friendly and nice. The outside seating area is very cute with the small fireplaces and a blanket at each cabana. They also had some mulled ciders and other warm drinks. My one gripe! I opened a tab and later on in the evening they said they couldn't find my open tab. So I gave them my card again so they could open it. I wake up this morning to two charges. I will be calling once they post to my account and will be giving them a call if it's not fixed. read more
