Now that I've been here a few times I feel like I have a bit more to say. I live in the area and always see this place but haven't started going until recently. I'm simple and burgers are a go-to for me so I had to check it out. First off the burgers... 100% beef, with vegetarian and protein options available. Their cheese and buns are what really make the burger, the meat isn't insanely good as other have raved on here unless "insanely good" just means salty. Also for the people comparing then to In-N-Out, have you been to In-N-Out? They're nothing alike aside from "animal style-esque" fries some people concoct. Came to this place on a whim because I was craving a big burger. I got the California Burger because I am a whore for avocado (who isn't?). It had a lot going on: avocado, red pepper, grilled onions, arugula, tomato and honey dijon mayo. Despite all this though, it tasted a bit bland to me. It was a little messy but that's to be expected with anything containing avocado squishing around in there, but it just tasted surprisingly bland. I also got the onion rings, which I LOVED and the strawberry cheesecake shake. The shake was good but I missed a strong strawberry taste. It is a strawberry CHEESECAKE shake after all so it makes sense that the strawberry would be more subdued but I still missed it. It is topped with whipped cream (which I could have done without) and these amazing crumbles of cheesecake crust! That was a nice touch and they give you PLENTY! It was kind of pricey as everything is sold separately ... the three items came out to over $16. I would say Hook Burger is average at best. Very much like the Habit but with more comfy seating and less of a fast food feel. My albacore tuna burger was very bland as it the tuna was just thrown on the pan without a single seasoning. The french fries were soaked in oil and pretty much fried to a crisp. It's a burger place that has a reasonably good ahi burger, but I've eaten several of their other burgers, and none of them are anything to write home about. We'd go there periodically when I was with someone who wanted a reasonable burger in this specific part of Pasadena and didn't want beef *and* didn't feel like the Habit. That's a weird set of criteria for a restaurant to fulfill. The employees are super-friendly - I really like them. The whole place, though, is trying a bit too hard to be an alternative to Dog Haus or the Habit, and although it has beer, it's not amazing beer. There's just no single thing that draws me to Hook. Mrs. C & I each ordered a burger & shared sweet potato fries & salad for our sides. My bistro burger was awesome. It had a really soft bun with avocado, lettuce, tomato 2 slices of pickle on the side of a nicely cooked burger. The salad was definitely more than a plate of boring greens. It had dried cranberry, walnuts, croutons, red onion & feta cheese with a citrus vinaigrette that was just awesome. It's similar to Panera or Corner Bakery where you order & pay at a register, and then they bring the food to you. When our food came out our runner volunteered to get us refills. For a place with self-service drinks, that was a first for me. I decided not to trouble the guy, but thought it was really nice of him to ask. Each table has extra napkins & ketchup, and there are stations with mustard, Tabasco, malt vinegar and tons of other stuff. I really liked the modern design of the place, and instead of boring plates the burgers come on rectangular plates, the fries are in paper-lined holders & the salad dish is round, but has a variable height around the sides. Came here with some yelpers for a night of burger tasting. Hook Burger also has other options besides burgers including grilled sandwiches and salads. For this particular night out I tried the Maui Burger ($5.75) and the Bistro Burger ($6.95) as well as their onion rings ($3.25) and sweet potato fries ($2.95). The Maui Burger has fresh pineapple salsa, teriyaki glaze, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. The Bistro Burger has roasted red pepper & onions, melted jack cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and honey dijon mayo. Although both burgers were really juicy and thick, I found that the chunky pineapple salsa to fall off the Maui Burger and did not provide the pineapple-y taste I was looking for. On the other hand I really loved the Bistro Burger. The roasted peppers and onions gave this burger the flavors that stood out to me. The onions rings were large and had the perfect batter to make them crispy. I really liked them as well as the sweet potato fries. To top off the meal I ordered their caramel latte milkshake. I am OBSESSED with how juicy their burgers are, I am not much of a meat eater, but I talked my husband into ordering two of their burgers so I could share one of them with him, wound up eating most of it, it is THAT good! All together it was the most perfect burger I've had in a while, it was nicely cooked, moist, juicy, and most importantly...the RIGHT SIZE. My friend had the Fire Roasted Chili burger which was also super tasty. The chili really brought out the fire in that burger. To add on to our wonderful burgers, we enjoyed the trio side (onion rings, sweet potato fries, and regular fries). The onion rings were easily the best out of all three. Lightly battered and crispy. I normally don't like onion rings, but I was able to eat the whole ring! The sweet potato fries were too sweet with the brown sugar on top, I could skip that. The fries were regular fries to me. Now for our in between dessert (sipped on it in between meals), we had the oreo cookie shake. Delicious! Absolutely loved the crunches of Oreos. Thick and creamy shake! Think of a high-end Carl's Jr, but at the same prices. I came here with limited expectations and left with a full stomach and a smile. The staff was full of smiles and very welcoming. They made some great recommendations based on my "tastes" for the day. I settled on the Bistro burger since I was in the mood for something a little spicy. I was pleasantly surprised to see how affordable the burgers were. A majority of them were between $6-$8 dollars with fries or onion rings being an extra $2-3. They soon delivered the food and was pleasantly surprised how well it tasted. The ingredients were very fresh and you could tell the bun was baked the same day. The burger did not fall apart but stayed together in my hands. The burgers are a little stacked so those with smaller mouths may have issues if they order too man extras. They serve alcohol which is very cool. A cold beer with a hot burger and fries is a welcome change from the A-typical family friendly fast food joints. You order and pay at the register and they bring your food to the table so I wasn't kidding relating the experience to Carl's Jr. Be warned though, if you are super hungry & have a large appetite you will be tempted to order two hamburgers. The Hickory Burger is very messy as the onions and sauce kept sliding out, but it was tasty. I love this area because of all the shopping trips and errands I can take care of in one go. My boyfriend ordered the Prime Burger and I got the Bistro Burger. We asked them to cut it in half and then traded. Cheesy couple thing, I know. The Prime Burger was pretty good. Typical gourmet burger with the usual topping. The Bistro Burger was so yummy! I loved it. However, I did wish they had mushed guacamole inside instead of actual big chunks of it. When the waitress came around to clear our plates, she asked how was our meal so I let her know about my guacamole. She laughed and said she agreed and will let the management team know. I am all for a scrumptious burgers and Hook Burger was quite yummy! Located in Pasadena, I've driven by plenty of times but never ventured in until my dad tried it with his friend. The restaurant itself has indoor and outdoor seating. I will say it's not a very big place with many tables able to accommodate a party of two but larger groups I didn't feel as many. It's seat yourself style, so order first and grab a table after. We decided on the Prime Burger and Grilled Chicken Sandwich on sourdough bread, the Pretzel Burger minus the onions, and a side of onion rings. Food came out in a timely fashion and I did like my pretzel burger and the onion rings even though I don't like onions but hey, if you deep fry it, I'll eat it. Service was attentive with staff always coming around and making sure tables were clean or refilling water. A note- sitting in the very back corner round table near the windows, I didn't quite enjoy having to swat something away often, but I did let the manager know and he said they are working on it. read more

The food is just meh. In SoCal, the land of In-n-out, Umami Burger, and a plethora of other excellent burger joints, you've got to be truly spectacular or innovative to stand out, and Hookburger doesn't do that. The biggest problem with the burger is the huge amount of lettuce that is folded into it. It's fresh, crisp lettuce, which is good, but it acts almost like a spring that pushes the burger apart from the inside. One bite and shwoop, everything's falling out of the back end. Taste was not memorable, the patty itself was a bit bland. Only good thing I noticed here was that you can have dijon mustard as a condiment. A nice double-double beats out Hook Burger every time. read more

While my burger was good, I left this place hungry. I've been living in a cave for so long, that I've actually never really been to a burger place where I wait in line to order, find a seat and have the food come to me. (McDonald's and In N Out don't count since I utilize their drive thrus haha.) So, we ordered two bistro burgers, two sides (fries and onion rings) and an orange cream soda float. They were all so good and burgers were nicely plated. The bistro burger doesn't come with cheese so you can add that to your burger for 75 cents. You also get the option of adding in bacon or avocado. Honestly, if we were to ever come back, we'd probably get two burgers each but we'd probably feel so unhealthy... so it's quite fortunate that this place also serves salad... which we know we won't order. The orange cream soda float was so good. They also have oreo cookie and caramel latte shakes that I'd be interested to try. Great burger place! I order the bistro burger ($6.95) and my boyfriend ordered the Hickory Burger ($6.50). Plus a side of fries ($2.50). The burgers were good, we both enjoyed it! And the fried were great also! Service here is good. Everyone here is nice and friendly. The place is pretty clean. They clean up their tables pretty quick after a party leaves. How this resturant runs is you order and pay, and they give you a buzzer. Your buzzer will light up when your food is ready to be picked up in the front. You can sit whereever you choice. There are also outdoor seating in their very own patio with heating lamps up above. They also serve alcohol here! I will definitely recommend this place. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with Hook Burger. I pass it everyday on my way to work. I've paid it no attention until my coworker told me to try it today. I am SO glad I did. The service was outstanding for a burger joint like this. I was shocked at how nice everyone was, and how they took their time to explain and how accommodating they were. The food was really good too. I came for lunch and didn't expect to sit down and eat so I didn't snap a picture, but very pleasing to they eyes and the taste buds! read more

Visited Hook Burger in Pasadena, last night for the first time! Very clean and well decorated place. (Love the American Historical Flag with 46 stars) The Food was amazing, Bbq chicken salad was one of the best I have had. Hickory burger was excellent. very tasty and filling. Raspberry ice tea top quality. One of the things though impressed me the most was the young lady Lizbeth with her very friendly and accommodating service had to offer. From making sure we are feel comfortable to going out of her way to explain and describe the menu. She is truly exceptional. She loves her job and it shows. I highly recommend Hook burger. We've driven past this place many times and finally, we decided to come here for a late lunch after some shopping. First thing that stood out was the customer service. A girl ran to the door and opened it for us as we approached. Then, standing in line and staring at the giant menu on the side of the wall, the cashier asked us if we had visited before, and since we hadn't, she ran out from behind the register to stand with us to help navigate the menu. Wow! Talk about babying us every step of the way lol. I didn't think it was that difficult of a decision to order the hickory burger, which she said was the most popular. We waited for our food for a good while, despite it being the odd meal hour of linner. We noticed two employees circling the restaurant in case anyone needed anything. They definitely take good service to a new level here, especially for a semi fast casual restaurant. Our food arrived, and the server once again asked if we needed anything. I think perhaps it was a bit overkill, but I do appreciate that they want their customers to feel taken care of. The burgers themselves were decent. Large portion, tasty flavors, but nothing to write home about. The sweet potato fries were delicious because they tasted very wholesome and clean, just how we like it. Not greasy or salty. I saw the theme coming and knew this was affiliated with another restaurant. Little did I know this was a part of my favorite place, The Habit. One would expect a place that is a step up of their sibling to be a bit better and tastier. Let's just say, I prefer The Habit, but this place has potential. I mean the potential is there, but it's just not hitting a home run. The staff is friendly, place is clean and decor great. I had the Hickory burger and thought the bun was a bit thick and a bit on the hard side; bacon was soft and had a crunch to it with some ultra thin crispy breaded onions. The meat patty seemed like pre formed patties, not hand made like at The Habit. Fries were shoestring standard and the onion rings were good and not greasy. I'll give this place another try and maybe get the ahi burger ( another favorite of mine at The Habit). I'm not giving up on this place. read more

I ordered the Spicy chicken sandwich w/avocado sweet pot fries and a drink $18......the sandwich was supposed to come on brioche bread instead I had a thick sesame bun, there was absolutely nothing spicy on this sandwich. The chicken was a thin cold slice and the bread was so thick I couldn't taste the chicken. The fries weren't cooked all the way & a few were raw.
