Went to have a nice seafood dinner with family visiting from out of town. The prices are wildly high for the quality of food. I had a $35 Seafood Mac and Cheese and they didn't even bother to brown the breadcrumbs on top after obviously microwaving it. My dad had some fried shrimp that had come from the freezer and the risotto on both my mom's salmon and my brothers dishes was undercooked (hard) and inedible. For the nearly $300 we spent for 5 people, all we paid for was the view. I do not recommend. Drive down to Edmonds or Seattle where literally anything is better. read more

Hook & Cleaver has some highlights and some low points. The Highlights: The staff is great. Our server was very attentive, had good tableside manners, but not too much time. Situated on the hill above the waterfront, the views are amazing (even though it was dark and raining). The food was enjoyable, nice fresh fish. I love menus that feature everything on a single page, Hook & Cleaver knows what they are. The price was fair, about what you could expect from a waterfront restaurant. The low points: Even though its been open for 2 months, it feels old and dated. I know they tried to remodel, but it was cheaply and sloppily done. It is a holdover from the 80s. Yes, l I be back. The service and dinner was great. I hope they continue to invest into the facility. Yes, I recommend. Its a nice dinner with a fabulous view for a reasonable price. read more

This place is our "cup of tea". Great service from the host to the waiter. We met the bartender and most of the employees in the restaurant. A very personal experience. They were very attentive and friendly . They treated us with respect even though we didn't plan on going somewhere this nice so we didn't look our best yet we were welcome. Food was outstanding from the Calamari to the strawberry shortcake. The neighborhood has great vibes, safe and beautiful views of the Ferry and lighthouse. The only wish for a place like this is they would have cappuccino offerings after the meal. We settled for coffee which was delightful anyway. read more

There were a few bumps to start the evening off. We arrived early in the evening to an empty lobby & then waited five minutes or so before we saw anyone at the front desk. After being seated we had a bit of a long wait before being served water and another long-ish wait before our server arrived. Our server was very friendly and informative about the menu and wine, of which samples were kindly offered. We ordered the Halibut Croquettes which were absolutely amazing, the Salmon and the Prawn Scampi Nero. The Salmon was also good although the Brussels sprouts were so undercooked that they were crunchy. The Scampi dish was disappointing due mostly to the quality of the Prawns which were quite small and extremely salty. The lobster sauce was tasty, although a bit salty as well... and I should mention that I love salt. I did not have the opportunity to tell our server because they did not check back after delivering our entrées so I just struggled through it. Overall the experience was okay, even with a slow start and a disappointing entree'. Unfortunately, I would not recommend the Prawn Scampi dish. read more

Stopped in for a quick bite and drink. Enjoyed the clams and the Old Fashioned was spot on. The ambiance is very modern, all in black and white decor, and for me not very inviting. View is great but not so good as to get me away ft the other more traditional pubs in the area where feel more at home. I just enjoyed one of Hook and Cleaver's "Tasters Menu" nights and it was a fantastic experience. At $75/person it is absolutely not an every visit sort of thing but was absolutely worth it. The meal consisted of three courses (soup, cheese board, and main) with a wine taste (not a glass) with each course. Food enjoyment is very subjective of course but the chef selections for this meal nailed it for me. The butternut squash soup was so good I strongly recommended that they try to add it to the regular menu. The cheese selected, cambozola was described as a cross between camembert and gorgonzola was seemed accurate for me. The dijon mustard and blackberry jam accompaniments paired well with it. The main was an expertly cooked filet mignon with mashed potatoes with a peppercorn demi glace. Hook and Cleaver seems to offer these special menus about once a month and I will keep my eyes open. read more

I miss Arnies charcuterie board but the new place is promising. Everyone was warm and friendly and welcoming. Seated the Thomas's section and he is fabulous. Couldn't have asked for better and friendlier service. Our salads were great (although I'd have preferred tomatoes to grapes on the wedge). I had the salmon and requested it minus the glaze which they were happy to do. It was fantastic. My date had the prime rib and for once he couldn't finish his meal. It was so good but healthy portions. We capped the meal with chocolate crème brûlée which was delicious. Can't wait to come back in the summer and the sunset will be better. read more

Where this restaurant shines is its great customer service and views. The food, on the other hand, is extremely mediocre and overpriced for what it is. Both the meat and seafood tasted not fresh (most likely frozen). The steak was on par with a steak from Applebees or Outback...but triple the price. The steak sauce is great though. Typically I don't like steak sauce but in this case it made the cut taste better. Nothing about my experience would urge me to want to return or recommend. read more

Ummm. Delicious. Always a fan of the location, the new Hook & Cleaver offers a simple hand crafted menu that is well thought out, full flavored and a definite pallet pleaser. We ordered the surf and turf salad, meat was perfectly cooked and the whole dish was perfectly spiced; and the fish and chips with a perfect crisp crust and excellent jojos. Went here for my birthday lunch and was treated like royalty. Our waiter was absolutely amazing, seriously. He recommended different things for us to try which were all amazing (we ended up taking the appetizer sauce home). He even surprised me with the most amazing ice cream. We laughed with another waiter walking by and found out he is one of the stand up comedians who comes out for their evening events. I'm definitely going to be attending! Went there with some family members who really like the restaurant. This was the second time my wife and I have been there since it changed from arnies . We always had a great experience at arnies. So they still have the awesome views and atmosphere and the staff are great but I ordered a bowl of chowder and my wife and I both ordered halibut fish and chips.when I ordered the food I asked for Tabasco sauce for my chowder which I always like to add and the waiter said of course. Well when they brought out the chowder it was a cup And not a bowl so I asked (is this a cup or a bowl? ) waiter said it's a cup, I'll bring you another cup, it's the same thing as a bowl. Ok cool. No Tabasco sauce. I did finally get some when someone else brought out the other cup of soup but I had an eaten half of it by then. So then the other food arrived and our Halibut was dry and overdone and the breading was dark brown. The fries were ok and no coleslaw is served with the meal. For 32 dollars you get a few fries and a a couple pieces of overcooked halibut. I had two beers and my wife had one margarita and one glass of Chardonnay. I left a decent tip like I always do so the grand total was something like 160.00. You would think that being a seafood restaurant they would do much better on the halibut and chips, I could get better than that at Kidd valley hamburger restaurant in Kenmore for half the price,although I wouldn't have the view or the atmosphere. Still I don't know if I will go back to Hook and cleaver anytime soon. read more

Like to give the new restaurant a try. I ordered the Halibut, water said it was the only fresh fish on the menu. I asked for no vegetables and just potatoes. It was served with vegetables and no potatoes. Waiter corrected it. The portion of halibut was tiny, maybe 4 ounces. $40 for halibut and only a few bites. The rib eye was the best the new york steak was okay. The peppercorn sauce was great on the NY steak, as was the cilantro sauce for the rib eye. It took a long time to get drinks. Appetizer came quick, food took a long time as well as the desert. I understand if the restaurant was crowded but only a few tables had people. The view is great, the ambiance is still an older restaurant. 3 people $300, a bit much for what you get. I will not likely go back. read more

We came to celebrate a birthday with a large group. We were so excited to try out a new place in our neighborhood. The waiters are super patient and attentive, no issues there. The food on another hand was not good. A few appetizers were ordered and it was not worth the price. . I know it is a new restaurant and they are finding their rhythm, the chef needs to tweak the recipes to match to the $$$ they charge. So writing this in hopes the chefs sees this and takes actions: Wedge Salad - dressing was very vinegary and runny. Impossible to eat. Ahi Poke - the way they serve it is peculiar, on a bed of chopped iceberg lettuce with some strange dressing. Doesn't go well with ahi. Steamed Clams - swimming in broth and only 2 pieces of toast served with a large bowl of "soup". Thr clams themselves were ok. Calamari were good and crispy. Pasta Nera - overcooked pasta and seafood. Al dente is a key here. A few of us ordered steaks - the Fillet was very good. The sides ordered were subpar: loaded potatoes were served cold (we send them back to reheat, came back cold again) Mac&cheese - very greasy macaroni swimming in very liquid cheese :( trying to mask it with bread crumbs and reheating on broil is not going to help the situation with cheese. Beans - very strange tasting, says butter and bacon, but butter tasted sour. Keep it simple and classic Carrots - the amount of garlic on top of the carrots is overwhelming. Grilling up the carrots with nice caramelisation would taste so much better. The ambience of the place is non existent. You spend $$$$ but sitting area feels like cafeteria. Throw couple of nice pictures on the walls, Christmas lighting in the dining area will do the trick as well. read more

We were excited to see what Hook and Cleaver had to offer. Granted we only tried 3 items on the happy hour menu but the overall experience was average. The crab and shrimp cakes were the best by far. I would give them a 4.5- they were full of crab and shrimp and minimal filler. The bacon jam was too salty. I couldn't eat it and I Love bacon. The halibut croquettes were bland. The flavor or the croquettes themselves was bland and the lobster beurre blanc had less flavor. The server told us this was her favorite because it had fresh halibut in the croquettes. The menu says it is salted halibut. The "happy hour" menu did not offer much of a discount vs regular menu pricing. They are new so we will give them another try. read more

After being seated quickly, we waited a very long time for someone to take our orders. The food came quickly. I had ordered the Cleaver Breakfast; eggs, toast, potatoes and gour slices of bacon. The toast was missing from my plate and I received only three slices of bacon. When I pointed it out to the server, she said she appreciated the opportunity to yell at the cook. No apology. Where to begin about tonight's experience. First... PHIL FORGOT THE CHEESECAKE!!!! Just kidding, an inside joke so Phil will remember what rambunctious table took a little too long post closing time to get out. Legit - Phil and the bartender tonight (I didn't grab your name and I'm so sorry!) both went above and beyond making sure our experience at Hook & Cleaver was nothing short of 5 stars. We arrived about 25min before our reservation and headed down to the bar for a drink and to wait for the rest of our party. This is something we like to do to gauge the vibe of the restaurant, as you can sit and sip a drink, hear banter between employees and also observe other guest experience with the wait staff. It didn't disappoint. The bartender answered all of our questions (Bacon Vodka anybody?) as well as went upstairs to check in on our position for a table. We made sure to close out our tab there for a direct tip to the bar. Upstairs, Phil, even though busy taking care of other tables, welcomed us and checked in. We had to wait a moment before ordering, but honestly the dining room was full and we were in no hurry. When he came back, we quickly ordered apps and mains and off he went, all of them locked in with his amazing memory (seriously Phil, how do you do that??) Now to the food. We ordered the sourdough, bacon jam and some fries that had a great sauce on them for apps. Our mains were the classic H&C cheeseburger, the ahi, the sirloin with a gravy sauce and the rack of lamb with the rosemary demi and the Mac and cheese and elote sides. Everything was a show stopper. Like, we took a bite and the world stopped while we worked our way registering the flavors in our mouth. We all quickly shared bites to share the experience and I can honestly say it's been a minute since a meal has been an experience. Each sauce had multiple notes that blended into the perfect complementary flavor profile. For dessert, we ordered the flavor of day (week? Month?) ice cream and apple cobbler. Due to how a party member ordered, the cheesecake was cancelled (hence the joke), but honestly after our complete gluttonous behavior during the meal, there was minimal room for more desserts. The apple cobbler was perfectly cooked and had the party members eating it quietly humming "yuuuummmmm" under their breath. The salted caramel ice cream was a dainty flavor, perfectly balanced flavor but not overly sweet. So all together, probably more of a 10 star restaurant. Highly recommend to anybody looking for an experience and not just a meal. read more

I live in Mukilteo and was excited for H and C to arrive. They did a great job with the remodel (which was very needed). My husband is GF so I called ahead and asked if they had a GF bun for the burger. The gal said yes and that 50% of the menu can be modified to be GF. We sat in the bar and had a blue cheese dirty martini which was excellent. Then we had our waitress ask about the bun, which they do not have. We planned on ordering the ahi poke, but that wasn't GF either. We don't eat steaks and everything else on the menu had gluten. We were so disappointed that we paid for our drinks and went somewhere else. Edit/update: got a lovely responds from manager. They changed the soy sauce in the ahi poke to a GF soy and will be making updates to the menu in the future. We are excited to try them again when the time comes. read more

Service was wonderful and first time in since it was Arnies. We went to the bar for happy hour and it was basically empty on a sunny Saturday which was so different from Arnies. The bartender was fantastic, drinks great and good variety on the menu. The food was so so. We had the prime rib dip which could have used a bit more meat and the cheese melted. Arnies prime rib was stellar. Cod and chips skimpy portion. Not sure I'd come for dinner as prices look a bit high plus the added surcharge but will probably give happy hour another try. read more

Went to Hook and Clever for our anniversary. We were seated right on time. The server was very nice, but it took 15 minutes to get the iced tea I ordered. It seemed to take a while to get our food, but we weren't in a rush. The Halibut was excellent. The surprise came with the bill. 4.5% added for the staff. No notice that this would happen. For me, that comes out of the tip I would normally leave. I usually tip very well. Since the restaurant decided to require 4.5%, I backed that out of what I left. I wonder how many people don't notice the charge. Probably won't return. read more

Opening at 3pm I arrived just in time to be the first patron the view is amazing and the ambiance and atmosphere were a welcome respite, the service was definitely on point for a five star restaurant I would give it a 4.5 star rating but highly recommended. I've really tried to like this place, but just can't get there. Prices are crazy, along with a mandatory 4.5% service charge which the restaurant retains. Why not call a spade a spade and raise your prices even higher still? Tried drinks one night in December, and it was terrible. Staff stood around talking amongst themselves, ignoring patrons in the bar area. We left to get wine elsewhere. I tried ordering takeout lunch for my staff during one of our very busy days. The food was only so-so at best (salads and burgers), and the burger was missing the side. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to go back and ask for it. The "remodel" that took months was pretty much just a poor paint job, and really looked terrible. The ambiance of the place was lost with a cheap coat of black paint, no artwork, etc. We now have to rely on nearby Ivar's or Turning Paige for our office lunches. read more

The place just opened a couple of weeks ago so I have to give them a little time. We went for Happy Hour and ate from the HH menu. I had the fish and chips and that was excellent. Very tasty and fresh, both the chips and the fish. My wife had the poke and that was also very good. The atmosphere was lacking. There seems to be a lack of warmth in the lounge area. The bar area had lights overhead and they reflected on the black countertop too much. Its was blinding at times. Turning down the lighting in the lounge would add a lot to the warmth of the lounge. Service was average. I ordered a Sambuca at the end they didn't have any coffee beans, not good. read more

When will the owners of these establishments, who live in $$$ houses pay their employees what they are worth and stop putting it on their patrons to make up their salaries. So we were big fans of Arnies and dreaded to see it go. We tried the Hook & Cleaver for the first time tonight. We went with another couple. The food was very good. We had a big variety. Chicken, salmon, clams, crab cakes and everything was done perfect. We all had the green salads and they were fresh and delicious. I wish I had thought of taking pics of the food because every plate was beautiful. We ordered the rolls because they don't offer the complementary sour dough bread Arnies always did and frankly we all missed that bread. Our waiter, Mike was wonderful. He was knowledgeable about the menu as well as the wines. He was attentive but not too much. We felt very well taken care of. If our next visit is like this visit, we will become fans of this place like we were fans of Arnie's! read more
