I'm from the Detroit area and we used to have some good Chinese Restaurants there. I'm always finicky about Chinese. I tried one place in the area and hated it so I went in to Honto with no expectations. My first disappointment is that they were out of noodles for the Pad Thai. I'm not sure how that happens, but it did. My only other disappointment was the fried rice. It had little flavor to it. It tasted like white rice with a little bit of soy sauce. I'm referring to the rice that came with my meal. If I ordered the meal, maybe it better. I got the almond boneless chicken with hot and sour soup. I freaking love their hot and sour soup. You get a nice sized cup with your meal and it is so good. They also give you the fried wonton slices to put in it. The almond chicken was good. I prefer less gravy, but it wasn't so much that it ruined the meal. It was two breasts deep fried to perfection. In addition to my meal we got some fried dumplings. They were different than others I've had, but very tasty! When I go back I'll probably just order those and soup!

General Tso's Chicken

I've been to a lot of Chinese restaurants serving American Chinese foods, and I am 99% certain that Honto makes the best General Tso's Chicken. Their other dishes are also great, e.g. Mongolian Beef, Garlic Sauce Chicken, Egg Foo Young, Pepper Steak, etc.) The chef is Cantonese which I think is why these dishes are done differently and better compared to those at the other places I've been to. 10/10 recommend.

Happy Family

Always great! Tried Happy Family today ..amazing ! Fresh and juicy pieces of shrimp, scallops and meat. I love this place! The only thing I would want with this dish is a skinny (glass or rice) noodle but the rice will do because the meal itself is amazing!

Kung Pow Chicken

My wife had the orange chicken and she really liked it. It was very well presented and the sauce had a very fresh orange taste to it. The chicken was lightly battered and appeared to be battered in-house. The hot and sour soup was very flavorful as well as the crab Rangoon. The restaurant was clean and quiet.

Wonton soup is good

Hontos is a nice, small, family run Chinese food place. The soup us good, the prices are very, very low. Food always seems fresh, although the quality is only fair. The menu has a variety of conventional American style Chinese dishes- things like cashew Chicken, Mongolian beef, or garlic shrimp come with one side-And an egg roll, for six or seven bucks. Three stars- mostly for friendly, fast service and inexpensive food.

Service was fantastic but I ordered General Tao and the chicken tasted really weird chewy. And the rice was super dry

I wanted to like this place but the food is way too salty and overpriced for the portions. Sorry not sorry.

Good cheap chinese. Worth a try. Avoid New China King in Howell, they are horrible people.

Don't expect the world's best anything - you are picking up freshly-cooked food defensively - anything you get here will be better than the gas station taquitos or the Arby's roast beef sandwich binge you will regret in 30 minutes. But to be clear, it's not going to be particularly great. Something about the time of day that I pass by through this area gets me so excited to toss in a pickup order just to see what I get. The Singapore-style Mei Fun is reliable. Get it plain without the Singapore curry spice if you're more suspicious. lol. Anything like String Beans with Garlic, or Beef with Broccoli, is going to be perfectly acceptable for a road warrior like you. The location, consistency, and ease of triangulation with regards to ordering over the phone (or having your shotgun passenger order) about 10 minutes before you reach this Hwy exit merits a solid 4-star review. The food is 3-star ish, but the mere existence of this place warrants a bonus "Oasis" star.
