the chicken was over cooked and the gravy for almond chicken was horrible. the egg rolls were greasy and no sauce, the pork fried rice not good and overall nothing edible but the soup. the chicken was so over cooked, almond chicken we had to use a steak knife to saw into it. we had to throw it out. sorry we won't return. not sure but what a disappointment. I ordered take out for lunch on a busy Saturday. I got the orange chicken lunch special with steamed rice and egg drop soup. Flavor/Quality was in the 3/5 range, which is pretty much the maximum score for cheap Americanized Chinese food. The chicken had a good crispy breading, real orange peal, and I thought the egg drop soup was hearty and savory. The downside was the rice seemed just slightly undercooked, and the chicken was a little heavy/greasy. Quantity/value: A big lunch, bigger than one comfortable meal, for $7, which is almost unthinkable in this era. A few points were lost because I felt a little sleepy/queasy after eating, but I did enjoy the food while I was eating it. The overall score of 3/5 is mainly a function of all the quality Asian food that I am fortunate enough to get my hands on, but for semi-rural Michigan, I was definitely impressed. read more

Huge portions, no MSG, great flavors, super affordable. To switch things up from my usual chicken dishes, I had a shrimp dish and wow! the shrimp were jumbo! I really appreciate no MSG as MSG will trigger an instant migraine for me. The portion sizes are huge and results in multiple meals. Picked up a lunch special and was amazed at how big the portions were. China House has a very easy on-line ordering system and easy pickup window stocked with a lot of hand sanitizer for peace-of-mind pickup in the time of COVID. China House is the absolute best Chinese food in the area, and I'm including nearby cities like Ann Arbor and Brighton when I say that! I've tried a LOT of Chinese places over the past few years, and China House is the only one I've ever been willing to go back to! Well worth the drive from pretty much anywhere in either Washtenaw or Livingston counties! Their sesame chicken is particularly on point, but we also love their general tso's chicken, fried rice, and crab rangoon. read more

Good & Filling Food! I want to say the food is the typical Americanized Chinese food you will find at any other little hole in the all Chinese restaurant. However the staff here are friendly and if a mistake is made or something was forgotten they are quick to make it up. There is a young guy that answers the phone sometime and he can seem a bit short or even grumpy but that won't stop us from ordering food here. Everyone has their good days and bad days. Ordered sweet and sour chicken for my daughter, as I always do. When she was eating it She bit down on what looked to be a hard, sharp piece of plastic. I called to alert them of our findings. Much to my surprise, they didn't say, "I'm sorry" or "Let me replace that for you." Instead they asked "What color was it?" Are you kidding me??? After reading other reviews, this isn't the first time this has happened. I bet it won't be the last either. Eat at your own risk. We've taken our business elsewhere. read more

Usually get a carry out from here at the end of a busy day house renovating, it's a 20 minute drive and lately they have left things out of our order, not cool Also last night a Sunday, the teriyaki beef was so dehydrated and over cooked it would have passed as jerky, (elephant hide jerky) the photo makes it look better than it was. A couple of pieces were so bad, it really was impossible to actually bite. I just thinks it's deceitful to knowingly put something that visually inedible in a box and take your money for it. Let me preface this by saying I'm originally from the East Coast and have grown up on Chinese food from NYC and Chinatown etc, so my standard is pretty high. I wasn't expecting gold from a place in Pinckney, MI and while it wasn't bad, it was pretty much what I expected. I got shrimp with vegetables and my husband got chicken lo mein. I liked my dish a lot, nothing wrong with it. My husband's lo mein was a little light on the sauce which is good for the waist line but not so much on taste. We also each got a soup, mine egg drop, his won-ton, and we were both sorely disappointed. They were both totally tasteless and soup is a big deal to us and how we judge most Chinese restaurants we go to. We didn't eat in, I ordered out, but for eating in it looks like the kind of place where you order at a counter and then take it to an open seat. I probably won't be back unless I have a really bad craving, I'd rather go into Ann Arbor and get better. read more

Cheaply prepared over price swill. Fried rice does bot come with veggies other than onions unless you order veddie fried rice. How much does 3 tablespoons of frozen peas and carrots cost these days? We recently moved to Pinckney and I stumbled upon this place exploring the downtown area. I love small towns and their restaurants and I am glad this place doesn't disappoint. My favorite dish (my "go to dish") is shrimp egg foo young. Although this place has a gravy that is lighter in color (resembles chicken gravy), I was impressed that it tasted good. This dish typically comes with a brown gravy and it really threw me off the first time I saw it...but, never let looks fool you...always give it a try. The only issue I have had is every now and then (like today)..I get egg shells in this dish and that is never a good thing. For me, luckily...I'm not easily grossed out and well, I'm a pig and will eat it anyway but, it could definitely throw some people off. Other than that the egg rolls are fantastic and I LOVE shrimp toast and this place is one of few that actually carries it...so happy for that! :) read more

We frequent this restaurant often since it is the only Chinese restaurant near us. The food is not bad for the price. However, on occasion they have shorted us something from our order; rice, sauce or fortune cookies (love those). The last time they shorted us was an appetizer. When we reordered and let them know about the shortage. their response was "prove it"???? So sorry, they lost a customer over a nasty comment and $4 appetizer. Customer service can go a long way, hopefully they can live and learn. read more
