This has been a family favorite for many years. We would do our traditional Christmas Eve dinner at the restaurant before the Christmas mass at St Joseph in Howell, MI. Always a great meal. I just ordered takeout today for my wife and daughter who was visiting with our grandchildren. We all were blown away by the quality and taste of the takeout. From the fresh vegetables in our Wonton Soup (including pea pods) to our spring roll and beef chop suey, Orange Chicken, and Sweet & Sour Chicken entrees, and a side of chicken fried rice...all was executed flawlessly and to great enjoyment. This is a family run business and we appreciate their presence and dedication to serving our community some really great food. Thanks for years of memories and traditions. May 30th. I Spoke with the Manager Janice. I explained my disappointing experience. Janice was very respectful, Janice apologized and left note to replace the order. Janice told me shrimp are pre battered, said I should order something in place of it. She noted so anyone could see it. Janice told me when she's in the store her brother is not and vice versa. She told I need to come to the store for the replacement. Today 6/12/25 at 5:29 I called the store to confirm the note. The gentleman told me Janice was not in. I asked if he was her brother he said "I'm one of her brothers" he asked if I wanted the same order, I told him I'm coming in. When I arrived he said, I know who you are we don't usually get the whole order wrong. I let him read my review & pics. He said we did get the extra steak right I hope you take the review down. He said "I think it was me when u called" I said yes and immediately you said Dynetta, I'm reviewing your order. Today it took me a min to decide what I was getting instead of shrimp. I ordered the chicken pad thai with extra bean sprouts, eggs, crushed nuts & lemon. I SPECIFICALLY said twice I want FRESH Chicken and Beef. It was TMI but I told him I have digestion concerns, I will wait longer to have FRESH Chicken & Beeg. He opened containers to show the food. It wasn't extra beef. He said it is and, this only cost $9 it's a 3rd rice, 3rd beef etc.I was confused and said Iwill just pay for extra beef. He said I'll get more beef. I left the store at 6:46 but went right back in, they forgot the nuts. He said I chopped up a plate of nuts myself. I went thru the food with my fingers. He said well they are in there. He quickly walked away as I asked for the lemon too, he didn't acknowledge me but he gave me nuts &lemon. At 8:17 I called because I had processed chicken in my rice. He said for 30 years we serve the fried rice with rolled chicken unless fresh chicken is requested, rolled chicken is more expensive it cost 9lb? I said I don't care how much it cost. I SPECIFICALLY asked for fresh chicken and beef. He said I showed you the rice. I told him I didn't notice. ( I seen fresh chicken in the pad Thai and didn't think it would be diffrent) He asked if everything else was ok. I told him I didn't know yet. He said You are just now eating. I was taken aback am I supposed to eat when you feel I should. He said the food has been sitting in the containers all this time. He then said I have 4 people here now, rice wrong I will redo it. I will follow up tomorrow. I cannot begin to express the BLATANT DISRESPECT, HOW DARE YOU QUESTION ME ABOUT THE TIME IM EATING. HOW DARE YOU TELL ME HOW MUCH PER POUND THE ROLLED CHICKEN COST. I have NEVER experienced this lack of customer service. I would like to know if he feels this comfortable disrespecting other customers or was it just me. Is it because I'm a woman? Or is it because I'm a woman of color.As far as the food my hubby enjoyed the pepper steak it was fresh. Pad Thai noodles & bean sprouts over cooked both tasted the same, chicken was fresh. Couldnt eat the rice. I deliberately took pics in front of clock. At this point I could care less about the food. He tried to hide it when I was in the store. He was clearly aggravated, but I didn't acknowledge it. I didn't place blame when he told me it was him who took my order. I didn't even address his lack of accountability when he said over the phone he was one of Janice brothers. I ALREADY KNEW IT WAS HIM AND HE NEVER EVEN APOLOGIZED. Got mandarin chicken,crab ragoons,silver noodle something beef. All deep fried tasted like old oil and burnt. Beef had alot of grissel. Sauce was off,rice was ok. Threw $50 in trash. Had to cook anyway after a long drive. Im a good cook but was pressed for time. Bad call on my part. read more

I grew up eating Chinese Food from a place in Madison Heights called Golden Wheel. Finally, a place that almost matches it! When I say almost, it's the closest I've found to it any where including Oakland and Livingston counties. It's about 85% similar. I was so happy to find out they have bean sprouts eggs rolls! You have no idea! The egg rolls were filled with bean sprouts, chicken, and whatever else they put in it. I actually would have liked less chicken and more sprouts! They were good though. Nice and crispy and not drippy with grease. The almond chicken was on point. Again, fried to perfection without being overly greasy. The brown sauce was good. I would have loved some mushroom pieces in it. The fried rice was ok. It was a pork fried rice. The flavor was good but it was a little dry. That was the only part of my meal that I really had a "complaint" about. My meal was $8 amd change which I thought was very reasonable. That was with the extra egg roll I ordered. Other places I've been to charge a little more, but have two chicken breasts, this meal came with one. I'm not complaining though. It's a huge breast and this meal could easily feed two normal eating humans. Next time I'm going to try out their chop suey and see how that tastes. read more

The menu is what drew me; authentic dishes reminiscent of my father's Chinese Restaurant. I chose takeout so didn't experience the ambiance. Appears they mostly only do take-out. I ordered Beef with Snow Peas and Black Mushrooms and Pan-fried noodles. The beef was tender and the mushrooms were large and meaty. The noodles were crisp, however, the sauces took away any positive points of all the food. The sauces were too dark (almost black, too much soy sauce) and gloppy (cornstarch/not enough liquid to provide correct taste, texture and color for the gravy). The reviews I saw prior to ordering ranged from poor to excellent so I decided to give it a go and rely on my own opinion. I disregarded the posts about the sauces. Sorry to say I won't take a second chance. Will cook at home when I have the times and energy. Found a nice Asian market in Novi for the dried black mushrooms and fresh snow peas! Pan frying noodles at home is time consuming but worth it. read more

I was hoping to find a nice local Chinese restaurant to enjoy. The pictures looked good. I'm trying to give you guys my most honest reviews so you don't waste your hard earned money. They do ramen, pad Thai. Stay in your wheel house. Upon walking in we were greeted by the owner. He was handling "take out" The two servers we're sitting at a messy table with masks on and seemed not to want to be bothered with "dine in" customers. I had to use the restrooms which are pretty dirty so I wasn't feeling it already. Our server came over and mumbled something through her mask apparently "do you want menus"? I honestly couldn't understand a word and politely asked "im sorry what was that"? It took her two more times to speak loudly enough for me to decipher what she was saying. My 7yr old daughter said she had terrible body odor and wanted to get up and walk out. I then checked in to yelp and to my dismay I clicked on the health dept code violations. which they've had three recently. I honestly should have just walked out. I'm honestly just sticking to Panda Express from here on out unless a place has over 4 star rating or comes highly recommended. The soups were honestly ok. The entrees were room temp. The fried rice was overly soy sauced and gross. The almond chicken my daughter wouldn't touch had like a weird gravy at room temperature was like fear factor. The meat itself seemed ok. The general chicken was good. The sweet and sour pork was ok but they must have left all the gristle fat in the pork then battered and fried. The egg roll was super greasy and bland. Everything was greasy greasy. It really started reminding me of kitchen nightmares and I was Gordon Ramsay eating old nasty food before I actually see the kitchens actual conditions. After paying I asked the guy doing take out if he was the owner, he said yes. I asked so what's going on? Are you not to into this? He replied his sister and he inherited the business. Employees were hard to come by. He never asked how was the food. If he would have I would have told him. I think he's complacent doing take out. I won't be going back ever! Worst Chinese food ever! Ordered Hunan chicken tonight and it tasted like Tabasco sauce on breaded chicken! Nothing like it should have tasted. Hunan is supposed to be sweet and spicy. Just got back from our first visit to Golden House. The food and service were amazing. My husband got the general (tso) chicken and I got the pad thai. Each dinner came with an egg roll and soup. The hot and sour soup was one of the best I've ever had. Both entrees were delicious. Some of the chicken in my dish was a bit on the "yucky chicken" side but it was not terrible. This is the epitome of small town family restaurant. Owners know your name and are always friendly. We have been eating here for years about once every couple of weeks and I am surprised I never reviewed. We like the soups and appetizer pan fried dumplings to start. All entrees are great, almond chicken, sub gum and sesame chicken. I like their Pad Thai a lot, it is not on the menu but try it. Fried rice is a great side as well. When I stopped by Golden House with Dr. Wife and my parents during a visit to Howell, I was reminded of how good Chinese food can be when its cooked with love and when its cooked by people who truly know what service is all about. Walking inside, it looks a lot like any Chinese restaurant that got its start in the 80s (Golden House was the first Chinese restaurant in Howell, founded in 1987 by the Kwan family). There are several booths, a few lose four top tables and lots of traditional jade art lining the walls. While the restaurant screams 1987, the food screams "I'm here and I'm delicious." It's no secret that Chinese food can be an incredible value and Golden House stretches your $8 into a few days worth of food. I opted for the Mongolian Beef, which came with an egg roll, fried wanton chips and a choice of egg drop, hot and sour or wanton soup. And it wasn't the little cup of soup, it was the real deal bowl of soup. Egg rolls were crisp, full of bean sprouts, Chinese cabbage and other delicious morsels. They weren't overcooked. The hot mustard on the table is clearly made in house and its a screamer. Great balance of heat and flavor that really set the spring roll off. My hot and sour soup was equally good. My main course had vegetables that were absolutely fresh. Nothing canned here. The spicy brown Mongolian sauce had a fine balance of heat and sweet flavors. Beef was tender and of a high quality. Tons of veggie and vegan options. They tell me they also have a gluten free menu. Two different people helped us out and I think we got no more than four "have a good days" from the Kwans. A great locally owned Chinese place that I'm sure has been serving this community well for all of its 22 years. I'll be back if I'm ever visiting my family and have a hankering for Chinese. read more

Orange Chicken was overly breaded with little meat, beef with pea pods was OK - a bit more flavorful than the rest. Service was friendly - but young (son of owner maybe? 6-8 years old running food back and forth, taking money) - so help must be an issue and I'm sure costs keep the food from being as hearty/generous as it once was a few years ago. Small storefront, and not many patrons sitting inside, but many customers purchased food for takeaway, so we knew that was a good sign.
