In the past I used Honke Heating without any issues. When I needed some work done with the heating system I called the Honke number I had only to get A&E. The diagnostic rate is much higher than Honke's was when I used them. A few weeks (less than 1 month with a nearly week long power outage time frame included) after work was done & a part replaced, the same issue happened again. I was told since I didn't buy their plan (pushy upsell tactic) that there would be a new diagnostic fee. I said thanks but no thanks. There are better providers out there. I had purchased a Comfort Assurance Plus Plan from my local place, Clawson Heating, to find out they had been purchased by A and E. I was worried that my unused CAPP would no longer be honored, but it was. They sent Carson out and he did a great job of going over everything in and on the furnace, took lots of picture which he forwarded to me, and he made recommendations on what needed to be done. He quoted me the reasonable price for the work needed and mentioned that he would be the one to come back to fix the winter so I'll have no problems this winter. Our old central air unit died. We shopped around and chose A&E to do the work. We already had a Trane furnace, so we went with that brand for air. We had dealt with Honke for years, then Clawson, so felt comfortable with them. Rick Coleman came out, looked at our existing air and furnace, and gave us three options to consider. Great communications and very professional. We chose option#3. Installation was quick and painless. The old A/C unit was removed, a new unit installed, new electric & piping installed, furnace rebuilt for the new coil, and everything was tested. The condensing unit for our heat pump stopped working. I got a hold of Honke who helped me about four years ago on another issue to request a service. I discovered A&E Heating took over the business since my last HVAC need. The lady on the phone was very pleasant and got me scheduled for a visit. She explained the service fee and what the technician would do, and the cost of any repair parts would be separate. Matt the technician shows up on the scheduled day to look at my system. He was very courteous, professional and knowledgeable. He identified the issue quickly and was able to make the repair immediately. When finished he walked me through the paperwork, which is all electronic now. I am writing this in the middle of the Pandemic, when I needed AC for both my home a rental property. Because both were around 25 years old, It was time to replace both furnace and AC. I asked around an got an enthusiastic referral to Honke from a neighbor, so they were the first company I called. Rick came onsite to both my properties (on the same day, back to back) whereas the other companies gave me virtual bids in which I had to fill out detailed forms, and submit pictures and measurements. Honke's bids were clearly the best value, only slightly more for high end Lennox HVAC systems than the two other companies who offered lesser brands which were also less efficient. Honke's installation was also a great experience. Both installations were challenging, but the lead installer, Barry, addressed all the issues with great solutions. The previous installation at my home was not done properly, so Barry reinstalled the intake and exhaust lines as well as rerouted the condensate drain line properly to my washing machine drain. He also found and fixed a serious but hidden issue with insulation blocking air flow inside the plenum. The back office at Honke has great service as well, thanks to Desiree. I really appreciate most rebates being filed for me, and that I have enough info on my receipt to claim the federal tax credits for 2020. There is some hot weather coming soon, and I'm grateful that we have much more efficient systems than before. I had Honke come out to check my furnace and AC because I'm selling my house, and right as the last heat wave was upon us, we discovered my AC fan motor seized up since I had last used it the previous summer. It was under warranty so I wasn't concerned about cost, but of course I was freaking out since my house was JUST listed the day before. This was a Friday and they had to order the new motor, and they installed it the next Tuesday. I was floored by how quickly this was resolved, especially in a time of widespread supply chain issues. My 58 year old furnace stopped working when the pilot light went out suddenly and wouldn't re-light. Other companies promised to call me back but never did, Honke's parts person returned my call in ten minutes. They had to order the part - it was Friday - so I braced for a long wait; I was scheduled for repair on Monday. The tech showed up 15 minutes into the scheduling window with part in hand. 20 minutes later I had a working furnace again, and the entire cose was less or only a few dollars more than every other estimate I had gotten for just the service call. One phone call, expert help, no hold time. Just over half an hour because the technician did a little extra cleaning on the furnace for me, and I have heat again. I had expected the worst but I got the best. Expert, compassionate (it was 52 degrees indoors!) help on the phone and in person. I have a furnace company now. read more

If I could give no stars I would. Called their "emergency services" on this triple digit day because our air conditioning went out. Left a message with the answering service. Waited for a call back 2.5 hours later we called and were told the on call technician " decided not to take our call". What???? No one called us back, just left is waiting for help. Thanks a lot. I am hoping this will serve others to NOT USE this business that does not fulfill their services advertised on their webpage. In response to the operations manager for his response two years after the fact; nobody had asked if there is anyone in the home fragile, or in poor health, etc. I do know and realize that In triple digit days there are going to be many outages and I never expected to be number one to be serviced. The fact of the matter is that we were told someone was coming out. It was not until we called back several hours later that we were told, I am literally quoting this " The technician decided not to take your call". No other reason given. Now your claims that I made other reviews for other Businesses-who did not come out are false and obviously intended to mislead, and devalue my review to benefit your business. $208 dollars for a $6 dollar furnace part seems like a good old fashioned bent over the barrel treatment. Diagnostic and then the capacitor replacement took all of 11 minutes. Definitely not please with Honke. Be careful they could be coming to your house next! A markup is fair and of course the diagnostic charge, but marking up a readily available simple part (that was in the van) 1700% is a Boeing move. Don't call Honke. read more

My furnace went out a week ago. A company recently bought Honke Heating and when I called the 24 hour hotline, the woman who answered was very rude and let me know they no longer offered 24 hour emergency services. I called back another time to confirm warranty information since Honke is the company who installed the furnace and it not been a year. The person who answered was certainly more professional but I was informed that it was a part warranty only and not a labor warranty. I called Lennox and confirmed that a one year labor warranty is standard. Honke/ A&E is no longer offering 24 hour services and they are not honoring warranties. $550 later, you can be assured I will not use Honke again or recommend this business to anyone I know. read more

When I updated my old Lennox to a new high efficiency Lennox w/ AC 13 years ago I kept calling them back every year for tune-up service. The cost is minor but it gave me peace of mind to know all was normal with the system. This year we had the normal service and a gas leak was discovered! Replacing a tube was all it took to fix the problem. So you see these annual tuneups catch problems before they are major or worse. We foolishy let our oil tank for our furnace run dry. Had we been awake to hear the noise a straw makes in an empty soda glass, we might have also heard the furnace fuel pump choking down mouthfuls of oozy gooey sediment. We had a repairman out from another company that this review isn't about and he tried a few things, then informed us our pump is seized up and won't prime. Furthermore, our 60 year old furnace no longer has parts available. So we're basically looking at $1200 in parts to get up and running. However, this guy has a used part he can hook us up with on the cheap. The next 4 days are spent trying to track this guy down for his cheap used part. We gave up... Enter Honke Heating & AC. They were able to schedule an appointment within 24 hours of my call. The service technician showed up a little late after coming off of a difficult call and a long drive. However, he was friendly and knowledgeable. I did my best to stay off of his back even though I wanted to see what he was doing. Within an hour he had essential rebuilt our fuel pump right in our basement. The bill was less than a quarter of what I thought we'd be paying. Our house is warm. Honke saved the day! As for "those other guys"... Well when we get bids to switch to NW Natural, Honke will be getting a call... The other guys? notsomuch... read more

Well, the work they do seems fine. We initially had them come out just to do yearly cleaning service on the furnace. They then needed to come out to replace a switch on the furnace (not a big deal). My beef is with the lackadaisical attitude they seem to have about giving an accurate time frame when they plan on showing up, or, at least following up when they know the guy is going to be late. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the office staff or the guy communicating to the office where he is. TWICE now I've been told between 10 and 12 and after 12, I have to call the office and find out where the guy is. "oh yeah, was just going to call you...uh...he's going to be late." Well, geez, glad I called since I have nothing better to do than wait for you guys all day. There are plenty of other companies to call. We were trying to keep it really local, but we will be looking for other options in the future. The customer shouldn't have to keep reminding the business to come provide their service ESPECIALLY when it's a new customer. Not a great first or second impression. read more

This was a great decision to go with them. We got a heating and air-conditioning mini split unit that mounts in the ceiling. It looks great. We have an old house with mishmash construction and they made it work. We are very satisfied with the function of the unit and what it comes down to is the cost to heat our house. We just got our first full monthly electric bill and are very happy! In one of the coldest month of the year it only took about $40 to heat our house which is about 1200 ft.² for the whole month. Had two bad experiences with them quite a long time ago and haven't used them since. About 20 years ago (I know, a long time, right?) We had them put in a new furnace and central a/c. That was in late April. They finished installing the furnace and started on the a/c but never finished hooking it up. They didn't send the electrician to finish the job until late August. The electrician refused to start or test the A/C because he wasn't qualified to service/test it. Finally in September, after the summer was over, we got our A/C working. Then about 5 years later we had them do maintenance work on the furnace and a/c. The tech just stood there, unsure of what to check or do. These were incidents from long ago and hopefully the same people are no longer there and things have improved, but we weren't willing to use them when our furnace went out and needed replacement four years ago. read more

The tech was friendly, knowledgeable, and competent. He did a great job of diagnosing the problem (hot-water based heat system)...then completely dropped the ball. Four and a half months later, after numerous calls to the tech (most of which went unanswered), the front office, and the service manager (very apologetic, but nothing else useful forthcoming), the needed part had still not been found and the repair had not been made. I have no beef with the tech--I understand he got very sick. But the company should have put someone else on the job, or even hired one of their competitors, at their own cost, if they'd had to, get the job done. Instead, they just left us hanging. We finally gave up and started over again with a different company. Since we had to shell out for another diagnostic service call with the new company, we eventually wrote to Honke, requesting a refund of our original service charges with them. This too was ignored. 6 weeks after sending them the letter we filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. A few days following, we got an apology and a check. read more

Any company can be great when everything goes right, but the true measure of a company is how they react when something goes wrong. We've all had that experience when a company makes a mistake, and when you bring it to their attention they just deny any and all responsibility for it and leave you in the lurch, I am happy to say that Honke is not one of those types of companies. A service person for Honke made a very understandable mistake on a service call (I wont go into details because they are not important here), and I didn't catch it for almost a year after it was made. At that point Honke could have easily denied responsibility and told me to get lost, after all Im just a home owner and not a retailer or anyone of consequence, but they didn't. The sales person took my complaint seriously and relayed it to their management. They maintained contact with me, paid attention to my complaint, and they went above and beyond to set things right. Heck, even more than just remedy the mistake, they made sure I was in a better position than I would have been should the mistake never have been made. When the repair was made the service person was polite and professional, the repair was made quickly and efficiently, and my home once again has wonderful climate control done for far, far less than the competing quotes I received. Honke is not only a great local company, but they are genuinely good people who take pride in their work and in their business. They give you all of the options and they don't try to sell you more than you need, and whether you are buying top of the line or just getting an older unit repaired they stand behind their work. We got three bids for a huge job, new AC, new gas furnace, new hot water heater, whole house air filtration and whole house steam humidifier. Found them on Angie's List. They beat the other bids, including Costco during a time of double cash card bonus, and pointed out rebates and incentives the costco installer didn't for the same units. The customer service has always been exceptional, office ladies are very nice. Rick was great fielding all my ridiculous questions, and the installers got this big job done in a day and a half. I also called them on a Sunday night when my elderly moms AC unit died, and they arrived early for a noon - 3 window, replaced the capacitor and sent me the bill at my request so as not to befuddle her, no questions, no problems. Last summer Honke Heating replaced my old furnace and water heater with new appliances plus air conditioninng. Their sales staff and installers are professional, efficient and thorough. I find their office staff somewhat lacking in good customer service. I had issues with the initial scheduling. Last December just as the 20 degree weather was starting, my electric furnace stopped putting out heat. Honke came out next day. Matt said he had to order parts. About a week later, and one heck of a cold house as cold weather had hit, Matt came to fix furnace. Only problem, Honke ordered wrong parts. We were freezing trying to heat a 3 story house with a gas fireplace. I called around and found the part but Honke told me they only ordered from a certain vendor. They order part again, comes in wrong again. This time, Matt says he could restring the heating coils at his shop and we would have heat. Cost would be an extra $240. Bringing total to over $700. He did the work, and we had heat for 1 week. I then went and got parts I found and fixed furnace. During all this, I had very unsatisfactory phone conversations with their staff. I got a sinus infection from breathing in cold air continually all day & night for 3 weeks. I did call and complain to the man in charge and got like a third of the bill back, although it took several calls then to get them to mail it. In the 15 years I have lived in the Gresham area, I have never had customer service like what I got from Honke Heating ever! Of course our heater went out on the coldest week of the year and with a 1 month old baby at home, we were in a panic. The wonderful folks at Honke Heating came to our house right away and told us exactly what was needed and delivered the part the next morning. The prices were VERY reasonable and as I said, the service and customer care was beyond words. We purchased the heater 15 years ago and hadn't needed to call all during that time. We were urgently trying to get a 3rd quote as our furnace was out and we decided to get another one who's company was listed on the NW Natural website. The owner himself came out and spent significant time with us discussing our options and giving us great information on the different kind of furnaces. Because of the time spent with us we decided to go with this company. We were not disappointed. They were able to install quickly to get our family heat even with the weather becoming snowy. They continued to work with us around our schedule and the installers were incredibly nice. The also seemed knowledgable about what they were doing and didn't seem to mind my questions.
