I walked in to make an order. I ordered the dinner size vegetables in brown sauce and instead of white rice I wanted veggie fried rice. I also ordered two veggie eggrolls. My order came out to $32 and I was a bit confused. She added rice as an extra order so she had to avoid it and start over then she gives me my food and I go to walk out and notice the ticket says pork egg roll. I go back to her and tell her they were supposed to be veggie. I had to wait for them to make a new raw. I get home and find out they are mushy spring rolls. The veggies were watery with no flavor and the rice was undercooked. When I first came here last year, it was amazing. I don't know what is going on, but they need to get it together. Even when I called to explain that my order was incorrect they hung up on me by mistake and then didn't understand me so I just hung up and said forget it. read more

I don't know what has happened to this place, it used to be my favorite place Chinese food place in Rochester. Their food quality has completely fallen off. Basic items like lo mein noddles were awful, my son said they tasted like paper. My frid rice was bland and not cool correct, meaning it tasted like raw pasta. The worse part was the hard piece of plastic I found in my dumplings. It's probably from a plastic fork the used to mix the filling but honestly with the multiple health violations this place is getting for food safety, I would never eat here again. read more

This is hands down one of the best chinese food places i've eaten at around Rochester or the surrounding areas! Everything is so fresh... The curry chicken with broccoli is my favorite.. The sesame chicken is light and delicious... The pork fried rice is so delicious , light, and the vegetables taste so fresh.. I make it point to eat lunch here anytime im working in the area... So for some reason Rochester has no good Chinese food, go look at the reviews and all the carry out places are crap and P.F. Chang's charges you the fist born child of your line lol. So Hong Knonh One is OK, they are not the best and have lost serious points in quality the last year or so. But, I get it. They are the only halfway decent option in Irondequoit and they get slammed. I really think they should prioritize people eating in vs take out but that's my 2 cents, what they definitely need to work on is their time frames and customer service. If you tell me 40 minutes, then give me attitude when I politely inquire at an hour how much longer the wait will be, then your answer should not be a snarky "10 minutes" only for us to sit around another 30 waiting for our food. How long does a side of rice , 3 eggrolls and 1 general Taos Chicken take?! I don't know why on earth we got a second asian restaurant 10 feet away and yeah they are slow and crappy too but at least they apologize. read more

Amazing customer service. Excellent recommendations and we we're able to go off the menu and customize! I'm impressed. It's americanized Chinese food however they have some menu items you can't get at most similar places like mapo tofu. They have an extensive list of tofu dishes! Three items were ordered. The ribs were overly sweet and tough. The mu shu pork was tasteless, and in a bland sauce that looked like pork gravy. Likewise, the pork lo mein was tasteless in a bland sauce like pork gravy. This was some of the worst Chinese food I have had. read more

I wish that there were more vegan options at I-Square, because Hong Kong One is always disappointing. The food is very bland and uninteresting. The last time I ate there, I ordered the bean curd (tofu) with broccoli in garlic sauce. I asked for it to be extra spicy. What I actually received was the same thing my wife had ordered, which was General Tso's bean curd. My portion of it was marked as being extra spicy, but it wasn't spicy in the least. And it had very little flavor of any kind. Also, the tofu was overcooked and quite chewy. I also ordered soup (bean curd with mixed vegetable). The soup was quite bland, as well. I think the staff assume that Americans can't handle too much spice or flavor, so the food is all prepared for the lowest common denominator. I eat at I-Square about once per year, and mostly just to sit outside on the roof. The last couple of times, I brought my own Sriracha sauce to make the food more palatable. The ordering process is a bit confusing, because the clerk didn't ask for my name. When the food comes out, there isn't any simple way to call the person who ordered it (and there were a fairly large number of people waiting for food). The clerk shouts out a few of the items that were in the order, and then the customers just have to figure it out. This system is just not very "user friendly". Overall, I just can't recommend this place. Go to I-Square, get a drink, and sit on the roof. Skip the food. read more

This place use to be called KJ's chinese, which i use to love in its old location. It now has different owners now and located in the same area. The last owner sold it to another family member (i believe) and everything is the same. same menu, same prices, same chef. the new location is in the I-Square market set back off of Titus. They still don't deliver, so i think thats the only thing i would change of the place. they have take out and sit down if you decide to stay in the "food court" like setting with the other restaurants that are there. the portions do seem a tad bit smaller when dining in rather than take out, but thats ok. i still had left overs. probably best to not eat all the chinese in one sitting anyway. i recommend the sesame chicken and lo mein, but then again everything is good. read more

My go to for Chinese Food. Their Sesame Shrimp is by far my favorite dish. It is pretty much the only thing I order. Staff is fantastic.

Went here on a moments notice and was extremely happy with the excellent customer service and quality of the food. The food was fresh hot and probably the best sesame chicken ever. Fresh & hot , they may cook to order. The food is delicious. Crispy vegetables perfectly cooked , fresh spring rolls that are more than twice the size of most Asian take outs. The staff is courteous and maintains safety precautions . Someone walked in without a mask while I was waiting and they gave him a mask , nicely told him if he didn't put on he would have to leave. Most people appreciate this extra step that is uncomfortable for employees to take. read more

We opted to try Hong Kong One, as the reviews were rather mixed, and a common thread of mall food court Chinese kept popping up. Seeing that it was new to me, I gave it a fair shake. I couldn't even bother to take a picture of it, as I was so disappointed. I'm all for trying new places, hell, that's the beauty of Yelp! I would be lying though, if I said I was pleased. The staff were wonderful, they deserve the 2 stars. The food was substandard mall food court Chinese fare. The General Tso chicken combo I ordered was ordered extra spicy, but tasted more like orange chicken minus the spice. The fried rice was lacking in flavor, and barely recognizable as a fried rice that one would come to anticipate. The fried dumplings were unfortunately lacking in any discernible flavor outside that of the oil. I'm hopeful they can get their food on the level of neighborhood Chinese takeout, they have a great location, and possibilities. read more

The best Chinese I've had since KJs used to be in Irondequoit. Sesame chicken, wonton soup, chicken with steamed vegetables, and pork dumplings are my go-to items. I'll make this very simple.... YUCK!!! The only thing that saves them from getting one star is that the CRAB RANGOON is GREAT!!! As for the rest of the meal; it was awful! This makes me really sad because this used to be one, if not, the best place to get Chinese in this area. The order consisted of: Shrimp Rolls Crab Rangoon Steamed Dumplings Won Ton Soup Chicken w/ Snow Peas Beef w/ Mushrooms Chinese Sausage Fried Rice I placed the order on the phone. I gave her the number and the name of the dish. Like I said the CRAB RANGOON is great!! Here are the problems I had with this order: Shrimp Rolls- NO Shrimp and they were boarderline burned (that gave the a nasty bitter taste). Steamed Dumplings- Under cooked, very little filling (2 of them had none); I asked for extra sauce and got none. They were absolutely tasteless. WonTon Soup- The broth was a strange darkish color but tasted O.K. The problem......in a quart of soup there was only 4 small WonTons. They were over cooked and falling apart. Chicken w/ Snow Peas - The chicken was over cooked and dry, the snow peas were like mush (my guess- they were frozen. Beef w/ Mushrooms- first of all there was NO BEEF it was chicken!! Again over cooked and dry. The mushrooms were salty, mushy, plain old everyday white button mushrooms. The order was placed around 4:30. I called at about 6:45 to complain. I was hung up on twice and then no one answered. I believe that they are open until 8:00/9:00!!! I will be calling tomorrow to talk to someone in charge. This is my favorite go-to Chinese restaurant here in the Irondequoit neighborhood. We go here at least twice a month and the food is always well seasoned, not greasy and vegetables are vibrant and flavorful. The staff at the counter are always friendly and very helpful and as regulars, have made suggestions to me that have become new favorites. I always look forward to seeing them. It is located in the I-Square food court and sometimes the acoustics can be loud. Its frequently crowded with families with small children. We love this is doing so well in our neighborhood and if we don't feel like sitting with them, we get take away! read more
