Was in the area and had never tried this place before, staff and service wasn't bad. Ordered 1/2 chow mein and 1/2 veggies with jalapeno chicken and kung pao chicken. Jalapeno had a decent crisp to the chicken and wasn't overly spicy, the kung pao wasn't that great and overall plate was ok. My wife had the orange chicken and from the orange chicken we are used to from other places tasted off and very different. Inside seemed clean. Price range is about the same as other chinese fast food places.

I always try to support affordable Chinese fast food spots, and this one really impressed me. It's by far one of the cleanest I've seen in LA. I love that they cook smaller batches and only fill half the trays at a time. It keeps everything looking fresh and hot. So far, I've enjoyed the spicy chicken, beef and broccoli, shrimp with vegetables, and Kung Pao chicken. Every dish was flavorful and freshly made. I'll definitely be returning to try more items!

Was in the area and hadn't eaten much earlier in the day and wanted to have something tasty and also won't be too expensive. I thought of Panda, but wanted to try something more local. So after my search on Yelp, I found this small gem in this plaza in Duarte. There's a lot of tables inside, so anyone can have their boxed meal here. The tables are also pretty clean. The table I sat at had a grain or two of rice, but it's wasn't at all a big deal. The food here is pretty standard stuff with a few entree options, like Chicken with Green Beans, Orange Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken, and I think I saw Teriyaki Chicken as well. I went for their 1-item plate and they did a decent packing on my tray. It almost looked like a 2-item plate! The 1-item was like $9.47 with cash. They accept cards here, though I'm not sure if there's any minimum purchase or anything. But cash is always good for places like this, helps the small businesses. So I tried the Kung Pao Chicken with half Fried Rice and Chow Mein. It was pretty good, though the Kung Pao wasn't anything like the Panda kind - the chicken was deep-fried and slathered with some spicy sauce. It was still decent though. The rice and noodles were good. I think next time I want to try their other entrees, too.

I honestly loved the food. They have rice noodles which is not offered at Panda Express. They also have eggplant and tofu which is also not consistently offered at every location of Panda Express. And those are two of my favorites and they were delicious! Besides those two standouts for me, they have the regular Chinese fast food items: broccoli beef, orange chicken, fried rice, teriyaki chicken, chow mien, egg roll..etc. This fast food restaurant is located in a strip mall in the same plaza as Target. After you are done shopping at Target, stop by here to pick up lunch or dinner. I got the 2 item combo and it was $11.97 after taxes. Service was fine. The interior is simple and dated. It's more of a grab and go place. Check it out!

If you are looking for a quick and cheap eats, then Hong Kong Express is the way to go. I haven't been here in years and I'm glad it is still thriving. Service is typical of any Asian To-Go place and sometimes you come during the rush and all the best items are being cooked. I would advise going before closing so your selections aren't limited.

Concerning payment, this business only accepts Visa, Master Card, Cash, Zelle, and ApplePay.) My family and I arrived on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day (around 1PM). I'd made a reservation the day prior since I'd been searching for businesses that stayed open during Thanksgiving. Parking is very easy. The private lot is spacious with many spots. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. Staff mostly spoke Mandarin; however, there was one staff member that could fluently speak English. Staff is very helpful and professional, and staff answered all our questions. We ordered seven dishes; all the dishes arrived within 38 minutes and 16 seconds. Good pace. The Salt & Pepper Fish Filet ($14) arrived in nine minutes. Then, six minutes later, the Beef Chow Fun ($13) and String Bean with Minced Chicken ($14) arrived. Then, 10 minutes later, the Combination Fried Rice ($17) and Salt & Pepper Shrimp ($17) arrived. Lastly, around 14 more minutes later, the Scallion Oil Chicken (Half - $17) and Almond Tea ($7) came. We happily devoured these delicious dishes. The Salt & Pepper Fish Filet had a thin, crisp crust with hot fish. It's gently seasoned. The Beef Chow Fun had springy, bouncy noodles. Its beef came very tender but a little lukewarm. The String Bean with Minced Chicken tasted clean and fresh; its chicken came tender and juicy. The Combination Fried Rice had plump shrimp, tender beef, and moist chicken. I especially loved how the rice felt hot & fluffy. It was well-seasoned. The Salt & Pepper Shrimp tasted crisp, plump, and well-salted; these shrimp were fried perfectly. The Scallion Oil Chicken tasted very tender and juicy. And the Almond Tea felt hot, velvety with the fresh aftertaste of almonds. Every meal felt clean and fresh. All in all, we appreciated how every dish lacked that overpowering/masking flavor. "TASTY!" Concerning ambiance, Sands Chinese Restaurant (Irwindale) is clean, sleek, and minimalistic. The tables and floors are very shiny. There's about seven tables inside. There's also a customer restroom in the back. The location is also well-ventilated as soft music plays in the background. Overall, my family and I had a lovely experience at Sands Chinese Restaurant (Irwindale). The food is fresh, filling, affordable, and delicious. If curious, I definitely recommend. 5 out of 5

TK Cafe has thoroughly impressed me off first impression, and if I was closer, I'd probably be a regular here. For how much we ordered, the food didn't take too long to come out and genuinely, was so good. We got a lot here, from the garlic shrimp to the popcorn chicken, and so much more. The popcorn chicken was, without a doubt, my favorite item. We originally came here because a friend said they had the best popcorn chicken, and I'd honestly agree. It was crispy but also still a bit juicy and I feel like most places go heavily into the crisp aspect and it ends up just seeming overcooked. But it was a 10/10 here. The proportions are huge, so it's easy to over order. The crab rangoons were good on the portions and crispness and not overly filled with cream cheese which is nice. The noodles were good, pretty average, same with the Mac salad. The garlic shrimp was a bit overly garlic-y, but it was still good. If you're looking for a new Hawaiian spot, definitely check out TK Cafe. The proportions are huge and the taste is amazing. If I'm ever in Monrovia again, I'd definitely be stopping by!

And their beverage menu is extensive as well, from your basic teas to milk tea boba and slushies. It's pretty impressive how these folks are able to squeeze all this food in this tiny little restaurant. Decided to go with the dish that everyone who has been to Hawaii has eaten at some point: the loco moco. I thought it might be a good way to gauge how authentic their food is. Ordered a side of Portuguese sausage musubi as well. Yeah, I'm a pig. Loco Moco - 5/10: so yeah. This definitely isn't your traditional loco moco, or at least the dish that I grew up eating (808 born and raised). Two patties, mounds of rice, eggs (unfortunately served over hard...should always be over easy so the yolk comes out) side mac salad - check, check, check and check. But then they bury on the bottom of this dish a bunch of stir-fried veggies, which threw me off a bit. This dish ain't supposed to be somewhat healthy. And then they throw a very light brown sauce on it that definitely isn't gravy. More like a brown sauce you'd mix in with pan-fried noodles. Yeah, just not the way this dish is supposed to made. But at least they give you a lot of it! - Portuguese Spam Musubi - 7.5/10: this one was much better. All the elements were there, and yes, they used Portuguese sausages. Hard to screw up musubi, but believe me, it can be done. Two pieces come in an order and they're on the larger side. So yeah, a little disappointed. I will say though that if I'm in the area again, I might order some dim sum. Happy feasting!

However, if you want to try something a little different, there are some "traditional" Kaiping specialties that I haven't seen on menus anywhere else. I've always come with my family and have received great service because my dad knows the staff. They speak my home dialect so I'm sure there's some bias there. Foodwise, I've tried quite a bit and haven't had any dishes that didn't hit the mark for me. Standouts for me are the big claypot yellow eel rice, their specialty roast goose (the 2 dishes just listed may require a preorder but again, my dad usually handles all the ordering), their beansprout with pig intestine, and their egg plant with salted fish. The claypot rice is ordered by the kilo so really is a big party dish but has nice succulent pieces of eel, really well cooked rice, and then of course the crispy rice at the bottom. The goose is very flavorful and not super gamey, it has more of a meaty texture and bite than the younger poultry an American pallette may be used to so word of warning. I really like the beansprout with pig intestine, again not really gamey but very savory with very tender, fatty pieces of intestine (highly recommend even if you're hesitant with intestine). The eggplant with salted fish is also intensely savory with a pungency from the salted fish that may seem like a lot but melds really well with the sauce and overall flavor of the dish. Though I haven't tried every dish on their menu, I've tried quite a bit and can confidently say they'll bring out some tasty Chinese dishes.
