Whe explained Jain cuisine, which is interesting, and they accommodate Jain, Swaminarayan and vegan. She did all the ordering as she is from India and knows what to order. Went here with my coworkers and it was my first time trying vegan food and I was pretty impresssed! Folks are decent and the place is nice. But the service is average and the food is below average. Noodles are ok, cold nothing much to be excited about Found hair in the food. The amritsari kulcha and mattar kulcha were pathetic. It felt like pizza base bread from a package. And the sabzis had no flavor at all. The waiter did not even pour water into cups. It is all self serve - which is not a big deal really. But they added 18% service charge and tips on top of it. Food quality is not worth 225$ for 7 people. We did not get any desserts. After a bad experience in 2024 we had stopped going , but tried again today for an outing. I don't think we will go back ever. I am sure they are trying hard, but the truth is it is not worth it. Well that was disappointing and we were surprised because the last time we had food from Honest it was good! (But it has probably been at least 2 years ago). The restaurant is nice enough inside. The server didn't know the answer to pretty much any question we had- probably should've figured it was a bad sign and should've left. But we got a masala dosa, idly sambar, and a raj kachori, which we asked to be made mild. The masala dosa was sooooo bland. Another reviewer called it boiled potatoes and peas, and I think that's pretty accurate. One of the worse masala dosas we've had in DFW. The raj kachori came- and was extremely spicey, didn't taste fresh, and was misshaped. We told the manager that it was too spicey to eat, he said we should've said we wanted it mild. We told him we DID, and then he asked if we wanted more yoghurt. We said we didn't want more yoghurt we'd like to return it and he said that wasn't possible (??????). We then heard our server (the one who didn't know the answer the anything) tell him "I put mild in the notes" to which he responded "you don't put it in the notes, there's a selection for mild". So manager KNEW that the restaurant messed up the order and still didn't take it off the bill. Gave two stars instead of one because the Idly was fine. Anyways- sad that this place didn't maintain its standards. Won't be coming back. A little late in giving my "HONEST" review especially after visiting a million times( I guess that's a little too much but you get my point :) ). I and my husband both love the food here - from chat to pav bhaji to thali, I haven't tried 100% of the items but I believe have tried a lot of them. And believe me, one of my fav Indian "consistent " restaurants in the neighbourhood. Every time I have been there, I have never been surprised in a negative way, food always tasted the same. I truly enjoy their sev puri, pav bhaji, grill sandwiches, dabang dosa, and oh my god their "mutter methi malai" with Onion kulacha is delicious. One of the servers had recommended and ever since I haven't stopped ordering. There have been higher wait times when I come after 7.30 -8pm but mostly I get seated quickly. This has got to be my favorite Indian restaurant ever! I'm so sad they don't have one in Austin but I stopped by here in Dallas and it was amazing. They have done a great job capturing the flavors of Bombay street food (the pani puri water was perfectly spicy and minty) and maintaining great taste with their own twist (the pineapple jam in the bahubali sandwich was exceptional). Besides the sandwich we got pani puri, two plates of dahi puri because the first one was so good (they use fresh puris!), Chinese bhel, Punjabi thali and the cheese pizza. The food hit the spot perfectly (maybe not the pizza, needed more veggies) and I'm so glad I got to experience a little bit of Bombay in Texas. I also got their theplas and dhokla for home, I have tried the thepla yet but the dhokla wasn't the normal moist and slightly sweet which was disappointing. The kitchen is visible and so is the honest commitment of the restaurant owner to use good quality foods and serve their customers. We ordered a few items to get a variety of tastings, but our favorite was the chat items: Dahi puri, Raj Kachori, and vada pav The bahubali sandwich was overwhelming with the "processed cheese" toppings most commonly used in India. The black pepper and amul butter in the bhaji really added some flavor. I prefer the regular pav bhaji over the special, which contains dry fruits. Honest is famous for it's Indian chaat (street food) and the occasional vegetarian entrees. This time around, I saw something peculiar in the menu and wanted to try it out; the weekend Thali. We visited this place on a weekend night and I must say this was packed with people and the wait time was hovering over 20 minutes. We were a party of 4 and were contemplating whether to dine in or take out but allure of the Thali hooked us all in to wait it out. The Thali consisted of 2 curries (paneer + potato and Eggplant), rice, dal, papad, choice between roti and naan paired with a desert. They also have a la carte menu along with desert menu which consists of cakes and pastries. Talking purely about the thali, the food was fresh and delicious. Honest, despite being so famous for it's appetizers and chaat offerings, surprised all of us with this thali. Everything on the plate was so yum that we finished every last bit of food on the plate. Despite not being a traditional Thali place, the food offered was above the mark, and frankly, exceptional. Another plus was the service here; impeccable. From start to finish the servers were attentive and courtious. Even though the food was the main selling point here, not everything is perfect about this particular location. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side and feels congested; the tables are arranged very close to each other and there's barely any room to walk around. The parking situation also is limited. If you happen to be at this place during the weekends like we did, expect a long wait time. Honest impressed me with it's Thali and the impressive service. Everything was fantastic and the price was very reasonable. Although the restaurant feels a bit cramped, the food more than out-weights the flaw. Very good vegetarian Chaat and chowpatty food. Their service needs some cleaning up and both people who served us seemed a little confused about everything. We ordered the honest special pav bhaji, honest special vada pav, the dabeli, the sev puri, Pani puri, 2 jaljeera and one sitaphal milkshake. The Pani puri was very good as was the sev puri. I would've preferred to get the regular pav bhaji instead of the special one as the special one comes with cashews and raisins, the crunch and taste of which spoils the true effect of a pav bhaji (mashed veggies with delicious grilled pav). The vada pav was loaded but delicious. The dabeli was interesting as it looked like a grilled panini rather than the dabeli I've eaten before (with regular pav that is flattened some) but the taste was very good. The jaljeera was ok. Came here for with a friend on a Saturday evening. First impression, the decor is pretty nice and fun. There's a bunch of signs with different languages. The coasters also have cute cartoon characters with different sayings. I think that's part of what makes this place different from other Indian restaurants. This place is designed more like a fun casual place to hangout. Now the food. So I've been here twice and realized that this place is more of a snack type place than a meal/dinner kind of place. For this reason I ordered the Bahubaali sandwich, the chili paneer, the pista kulfi, and rah bhog ice cream. I feel like the Bahubaali sandwich is a must if you come here! There's a bunch of different layers and flavors that work well together. I also enjoyed the chili paneer. For the pista kulfi, though i enjoyed the flavor, I wish they hadn't cut it up into pieces as it made it harder to eat. The raj bhog also had a great flavor, but I was not a fan of the gritty texture. I think this place is a cool place to visit and try a bunch of different snacks. I do think that they need to work on their service. It takes quite long for the food to come out, to receive the bill, and notice small things like making sure water is available at the tables. I agree that they are busy but our pulav didn't come to the table for 45 minutes later until literally all the food was done and we had to ask for it 3 times. So, here is the breakdown: -Regular Punjabi thali - 4 stars (Good thali; definitely recommend to everybody and I will order this again). The Pav Bhaji is the best here, so close to that you get in India. Pav is so nicely done with butter! Love it. We also had the bahubali sandwich, it was alright, my husband loved it though. Good ambience but slow service, expect long wait. We had to wait for 30 minutes but decided to do groceries( Patel's nearby) during our wait time. We will be going back for sure! When it opened About two years ago we had visited it and then recently we have started going to this place again. This time we went as family of four and we're surprised that on a Sunday afternoon were able to quickly get seating. We started off with some coolers which were masala Coke and masala thumbs up ! this was a very interesting drink as it had a refreshing Jal Jeera taste coupled with the taste of coupled with the taste of Coke/Thums Up (an Indian cola) ; definitely worth a try. We tried the Mumbai classics which were Dabeli and Vada Pav ( Indian Streetside Burger) both of them were amazing We took the special Vada Pava, which had melted cheese inside & grated cheese on top and was super tasty and the beauty was the Dabeli had a nice crust on it and the flavor of the filling was amazing. We had heard a lot of awesome stories about the Thali and we definitely we definitely love the spread in the Thali. It had garlic Naan , paneer butter masala and a host of other things including an amazing Gulab Jamun dessert, overall the Thali would be a perfect choice for a single person with a good day braking meal, and can really fill yourself up . The kids tried the Aloo Mutter (potato & peas) sandwich which was grilled and it was really well presented, tasty and came with crispy potato chips, and a ton of grated cheese on top just like on the Mumbai street side. We tried the Punjabi entree "Methi Mutteralai" which is a specialty dish made with heavy cream fenugreek leaves and it's mixed with the peas, which is a divine concoction and earthy dish that goes very well with garlic or butter Naans . The mango lassi was the softener at the end of such a heavy meal and it comes at 50% off with the Thali, so it's a great deal to top your full meals Overall , to be completely "Honest" (pun intended) this restaurant is a nice family restaurant , with a hble ambience and great food, that works for any mood you may be in. Hands down the best Indo-Chinese spot in the DFW metroplex. Fantastic food, and great job handling/packing to go orders during COVID-19. The hot & sour soup has an excellent kick to it. The sandwiches (aloo mutter, cheese chutney, baahubali) are all killer, and the chilli garlic noodles were the star of the show for me. Excellent food at a reasonable price, Honest is a must go!
