Vishnuji is the only authentic marathi restaurant we have in DFW area. Marathi food comes from the state of Maharshtra. Most of the Indian restaurants common in US cater to North Indian or South Indian cuisine. This is as authentic as it gets. The food simply takes me back home with fresh ingredients and unique culture dishes. Misal Pav is hands down my favorite here which is pulses curry with fried noodles served with side of bread. If you enjoy spicy this is a must have. They have several amazing deserts as well such as srikhand and puran poli, freshly made in-house. Went in for a weekend buffet. Good spread of mostly Maharashtrian dishes with a few "North Indian Dishes". I focused on the Maharashtrian items and really enjoyed the simple but flavorful vegetables. I had, Saoji Vegetables, Cauliflower, Potato and the Daal. All had great flavors and cooked well. The Kothimbir Wadi and the Medu Vada were good too. The variety of chutneys was impressive and so were the desserts. My favorite of the Jalebi, Shrikhand, and Carrot Halwa was the Jalebi. I believe I make a better Shrikhand. They had Pulao, White Rice, Poori, and Chapati. My least favorite was the Poori. It was way too thick. Overall a good spread though not overwhelming and value for money if you have a good appetite. Having lived in Mumbai for 21 years, Maharashtrian food is very close to my heart and this restaurant did complete justice to it. This restaurant is owned by a famous chef in India. I would highly suggest trying Kothambir wadi (coriander is the key ingredient), sabudana vada (tapioca), vada pav, misal pav and thali peeth. We've also tried other dishes like pitla bhakar and they taste good as well. In terms of the food and taste, this restaurant has been consistent. Now, people would argue but you can definitely try it once (don't completely rely on the bad star ratings that the restaurant has got). Visited this restaurant on a Sunday for lunch and was extremely pleased with my food and overall experience. The Sunday lunch was $13.99 from 11:30 to 2:30 and it was a vegetarian buffet that consisted of simple Maharashtrian food that was filled with flavor yet felt light and healthy! Something has changed at this place. All of our favorite dishes were way off from what we remember eating here regularly. I've spoke to someone at front and asked to see if Chef is on leave or something, at first they refused and when I complained about food test they said yes about chef changed. They should have just explained me proper reason so we can return back; now with this kind of response and food tasting we are afraid to return back specially my kid who loves some of their dishes. I tried the Lunch Buffett at this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. This place is purely vegetarian and is affiliated with the famous chef - 'Vishnu Manohar'. This restaurant famously serves 'Maharashtrian food cooked home style with healthy ingredients'. Let me be frank with you guys, I just avoid going to places that are purely vegetarian because you never know what you'll end up getting, sometimes the food is sweet, sometimes the greens that they offer are not a part of your diet or maybe they don't have enough options for you to get excited about. So, when my friends suggested this place, I was a bit skeptical, to say the least. This restaurant just blew me away. Let's talk about food; they had a couple of fried appetizers (mix pakora and palak pakora) Dal, rice, a few entrees (Chloe, aloo-bhindi and cabbage) and a couple of deserts (Gulab Jamun and Mango phirni) along with papad and soup. I never got the chance to try the soup but my god the rest of the food was delicious. The aloo-bhindi was the star of the afternoon. It was authentic Maharashtrian tasting and the potatoes were so soft it would just melt in our mouths. Dal had the home style flavor and tasted excellent with rice and Chloe. Over to the deserts section, Gulab Jamun was typical and nothing fancy, but the mango phirni was just unbelievable. Papad was ok, I mean it's papad, what more do you expect? For $15, this Buffett was an absolute steal. The soul of Maharashtra can be felt after tasting the food here. I wanted to try the much talked about Misal-Pav but I was told they don't serve that during lunch Buffett which was a bummer. Not everything on the menu would be called cheap but it's reasonable. There are times in your life living outside of your home town that you wish for some 'Ghar ka Khana' (home cooked food) and this place just hits you with nostalgia. It's almost an exact replica of what you would get, food wise at least, in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The authentic Dal with rice, the bhendi sabji paired with soft, home cooked style roti and the Chloe would just remind you of home. The lunch Buffett was extremely satisfying and kept us full for the rest of the evening (quite literally). Was our first time here, as we wanted to go off the beaten track and try something new. Hard heard about this place on Funasia Radio, and since we lived in Maharashtra for about 5 years, wanted to reminisce the old days. The staff are super courteous, and the interiors have been decked really well, and the finish on the walls was like in the village walls, a nice touch. We went crazy on the appetizers first: Kothimbir Vada: small green fried cubes with a good coriander flavor and has a nice crunchy bite to it, complemented well by Coriander chutney. Misal Pav: this one really was assembled well, and was as close to local Mumbai and Pune flavors as you can get here. The misal had great spunk, and flavor. Thoroughly enjoyed. Saboodana Kichdi: this was as authentic as you can get. I used to share my Marathi colleagues lunch boxes and the kichdi here was as close to home made as you can get. We asked for some fired chilies to complement the kichdi. Definitely do try this. To close the dinner, we chose to try the Thali Peeth and Poori Shrikhand. Both were authentic flavors and were very tasty. Overall the place is super cozy, nice responsive staff, and prices are very reasonable . For all the items we ate, our total bill with a 20% tip was $40+, which we didn't feel was too bad. This experience has made us want to go for the weekend buffet next . read more

The worst palak paneer I have ever had. The raw onion was still crunchy and there was no cream or cashew cream to thin. So it was just this dark green mush with chunky raw onion. Even pieces of the tomato were still whole and crunchy. I'm very disappointed and I will not be back. Decided to try this place inspite of all the reviews. Dined in on a sunday with some friends, they had buffet and we were looking forward to a Maharastrian cuisine spread. The food was like any other buffet, with some soup and regular appetizers like pakodas and aloo bonda, with roti and 3 curries. They also had a seasoned rice which was just bad, oily and tasteless. We didnt get to try the desserts The appetizers were decent, some over salted and roti was good, the only highlight of the lunch was the lemon coriander soup. When we went back to the buffet line the second time, all the appetizers were gone and didnt get refilled anytime soon. It would have been good if they had some maharastrian specials on the buffet. We used to go there often. Food quality went down sharply down from the first time to the last. We still gave it a couple of more tries. They used plastic containers to store hot daal. Their vegetables often seemed either watery or very oily and lacked taste too. When showed the excessive amount of oil floating in paneer to the owner and noted that it's not healthy, he said this is how people like it. Vishnuji Ki Rasoi is one very unique Indian restaurant in the metroplex. Unlike others who primarily are based on South Indian food (dosa, idli etc.) or North Indian food (tandoori, paneer, chicken tikka masala etc.), it's food is based on the central region of India (named Maharashtra). You will still find those North/South Indian foods on the menu but those are really not why you eat here. Also this is a vegetarian restaurant. We ordered Vada Pav (potato fritter in a roll, with chutneys on the side), Schezuan noodles and a traditional dish of Maharashtra named pithla bhakri. That is really a flatbread made of a regional millet alongside a saucy, gram flour based curry. One thing to add - traditional Maharashtra food is spicy and this restaurant does justice to that. Each dish is by default pretty spicy, and is served with ground chilies on the side. Each of these dishes was exceptional and had a unique flavor that you cannot find anywhere else. The place is pretty basic (paper plates etc) but really delivers on the flavor for the most part. After a filling, spicy meal nothing better to round off the meal than srikhand (hung yoghurt with sugar, cardamom and saffron). Again the taste and flavor was perfect. The service was a bit slow since we went around lunch but we were out in an hour. The decor and ambiance reminds you of rural Maharashtra - from the texture on the walls to the paintings to the decor when you enter. We had a terrible experience with the service at this place tonight where we waited 2hrs to get our order. We ordered takeaway at 6:15pm & reached the restaurant 20 mins later. The lady at the front desk asked us to wait since the order wasn't ready. After waiting about 30 mins or so, when inquired again, she found out that the kitchen doesn't even have the order details. So by 7:20pm we came out and waited outside after informing the front desk lady to inform us when the order is ready since they have delivered food outside to other people. We still didn't get our food by 8pm. We were truly furious by then, and did show our displeasure at the front desk employee who then directed us to another person while she went inside the kitchen and we could hear her screaming at some employee or maybe cursing at us. The guy working there was atleast a bit courteous and did offer a refund. We finally got our food at around 8.10pm. Don't really like leaving a bad review but this was one of the worst experience in DFW desi restaurant, and the attitude of the front desk lady didn't help either. When we asked why does your closing time say 10pm on the website if the kitchen closes at 8.15pm, the manager / owner was rude and so dismissive. I believe the waiter was saying they were deep cleaning the kitchen. He did look apologetic. But really bad attitude on the part of the manager.
