Then I stopped coming for a bit, something about bats and flus...now a few years later, I'm back. Everything is still top tier - been coming to Ethan the last few times, he has been great and dishes out some amazing fades with precision. Weird to give an establishment I've been going to such a poor rating but my most recent experience left a horrible taste in my mouth. My second to most recent haircut was by Jody and I was very pleased with it that I specifically requested her again. Admittedly, I was almost ten minutes late to my appointment, which upon arriving, she reminded me of and I apologized for. If she would've turned me away at that point or she accepted the apology and made the rest of the experience pleasant, we wouldn't be here. As she sits me down she again reminds me that I was late and, I quote, "try to be better with your time management next time". At one point she asked me how the top looked and I mentioned that it looked a bit too round and uneven. To which she tells me there is nothing she can do about it and that the previous person to cut my hair had created that mess. I'd like to reemphasize here that she did my last haircut so I guess I was either mistaken about the quality of her work, or she was doing a half ass job this time. All my previous haircuts here have included a neck shave, fade, and I've always been handed a mirror to check the neck-line. None of which happened this time. At this point, though, I just wanted to get out of that chair rather than force her begrudging hand any more. read more

I came in for the first time to get a haircut after growing my hair out for awhile (reached below my shoulders), i had my hair done by alana, i gave her two reference photos during the consultation, i tried to be thorough with what i wanted and we went from there. the vibe was chill, we got to talking as normal until she started complaining to me about her personal life which i wasn't so sure how to answer so that was already uncomfortable to me. after the hair was done she quickly showed me the back with the mirror, paid and i was on my way. everything just felt super rushed. i was excited during the cut but after leaving and looking at it closely i did not get what i asked for at all even after showing two references. i'm not one to leave reviews but this one i just have to say something. i was really excited for something new and i walk out with really choppy uneven hair, no blending in the back so my hair sticks out weirdly and i have to wait for this to grow out to get it the way i want it. read more

I've been going to Britney for a couple years now, and she remains the only barber in the city that I trust -- even after moving across the city. We get along well, she's very caring and supportive, and of course she knows how to cut some hair. She really worked with me to figure out what style worked for the look I wanted, and continues to work with me when I want to try something slightly new. I've been here around 15 times in total. Previously, I had 3 different barbers who I each saw regularly but they each left the store abruptly one after the other. So recently, I booked with a new barber (Dave "Spoon"). I told him I'd like to have my hair cleaned up (it had been a month and a half since the last haircut) and I'd like to grow it out eventually. He sincerely responded, "How about a 2?" referring to the razor guard size and was fully serious. (What in the world?) That should've been my first red flag. I told him 8 is always the lowest I prefer. Despite booking a 45 minute appt like normal which always lasts around the same amount of time, the full haircut lasted under 20 minutes. He hadn't spoken much throughout, which is ok, but in retrospect it felt like the haircut was simply rushed. After, I quickly noticed my sideburns are uneven by an inch. I will not be coming back and will officially look for a new barber in Austin. read more

Nice staff but terrible work , made it abundantly clear that I do not use product and that I wanted 1.5-2 inches on the top. The entire cut was done with me turned away from the mirror and I was left with hair on the top much longer than 2 inches and a style that requires product to form into anything remotely decent. I want to begin by saying that I used to go to the Grand Barbershop in the Triangle, but then I followed all the cool barbers here when they went to start their own place up. First things first, this place highly discourages walk-ins in favor of appointments. This makes sense - no one has time to wait around at a barbershop anymore. I arrived right around my appointment time and was greeted with the incredibly clean, all-white room that is the Honest Barber. I waited 10-15 minutes for my barber to be ready for me, which was a bit longer than I would've liked, but the free beverages (both alcoholic and wholesome) made the wait more pleasant. When the time came, I sat down at David's chair for my haircut. I showed him what I wanted, and he got to work on my long, messy mane. In the meantime, we talked about our lives - his was pretty fascinating; mine not so much - and essentially just enjoyed each other's company. David did a great job with my hair and then shaved my neckline with the classic straight razor, which I find is rather unappreciated in 2019. I was a little dubious because he didn't ask if I wanted the back square or rounded, but I assume he saw how it was before and followed suit. It would've set my mind a little more at ease if he had communicated this though. All in all, $30 + tip for a high-quality haircut and drinks included is a great value, and Honest Barber is my new go-to barbershop in Austin. Honest Barber is awesome. We have been using them every since they opened and it's always been great. We originally found the barbers from a previous location and followed them here. I am a creature of habit so I find it very comfortable and relaxing to utilize the same barber consistently. I always had Regan cut my hair and we would spend an hour chatting about old movies,comics and whatever else came up! My hair was always cut perfect and I got to have a great time with an awesome guy! Unfortunately Regan is no longer with us and it makes me incredibly sad. I can't imagine not seeing him and talking with him about literally anything until my face hurt. I will continue to go to the barbershop and honor his memory. He was a great guy and helped make the barbershop a great place! I want to continue to support this awesome shop and the great people that work there! I would easily give it 10/10 read more

Mediocre haircut uneven left side and side burns left feeling unsatisfied wouldn't recommend "spoon" at all

I've been going to Honest Barber for my haircuts since before the pandemic started and more recently after I was vaccinated. My hair is a bit exotic by American standards, and a lot of barbers tend to struggle with it, but I worked with Ethan and he did a pretty good job with it. He was also very communicative in asking how I wanted my hair and understood what I meant even when I didn't really know how to describe what I wanted. Highly recommend him in particular, although in general everyone seems nice and does a good job. As restrictions have been lifted (despite the pandemic still going on), Honest Barbers still maintain high standards for hygiene, as a mask is required, temperatures are checked, and everyone sanitizes their hands between each haircut. read more

3 months after the start of the Covid-19 lockdown without a haircut I was starting to look pretty Feral. Got a reservation with Eric, so off I went. Got there, was glad to see everyone in masks, my temp taken at the front door, we both cleaned our hands then off to the chair. Now, I'm ok with describing what I want but not good when it gets down to the finer details i.e blade guard number, etc. Left him with what I wanted "low fade, parted ivy league/military cut with textured top". I came here 9 months or so ago when I first moved to Austin and wasn't very impressed with my initial cut. I tried a few other places but still hadn't found my new go to barber. I needed a haircut in March before the shut down and with COVID still going on and my hair getting more out of control, I started looking for a place to go. However, out of an abundance of caution I wanted to go somewhere that was taking the situation seriously. I checked out the Honest Barber website and was sold on the precautions they were taking: - Barber and customer both wear masks - Temperature taken at the door - Hand sanitizer provided - Contactless payment through Venmo - Customers wait outside until the chair is available - Sanitizing the chair and equipment between cuts I had initially scheduled an appointment with another barber but he texted me to say he was moving out of state and he recommended Ethan. Now I'm going to be recommending Ethan as well. Ethan texted me the morning of my appointment with instructions for my appointment. When I arrived he did a great job of turning my lackluster explanation of what I wanted into a reality checking several times throughout the cut to make sure he was doing what I wanted. I recently took my 12-year old son here to see Brittany based on a recommendation from a co-worker. Brittany was awesome! She took the time to talk with my son about what he wanted his hair to look like and was honest with him about the time and effort he would need to achieve the style he originally requested. She then offered an alternative suggestion and explained how he could achieve a look that he would really like. My son took her up on her suggestion and loved his haircut! I'd been going to Great Clips for years and I finally decided to grow a beard at the age of 66 and so I needed to find a barber shop that can do beards. I did lots of Google searches and I chose Honest Barber and made an appointment online with Greg. He was very nice and personable. I was very pleased with how my haircut and beard trim came out. Since this was my first-ever beard I knew it was going to be needing a good outline and I didn't trust my shaky hands to do it at home. Sure this is a barbershop but that's not the real reason to come here. I stumbled upon the restroom one session and found myself in a world of clouds. Clouds were used to make the toilet paper honest barber carries in their restroom. They take walk ins but just pretend you're going to get a cut and head straight to the restroom. Sure stay for a bit if you're in need of a good haircut but that's only the second best thing about this place. If they put that much attention to detail for your wiping needs imagine the amount of detail they'll put on your hair. 10/10 would wipe again. read more

All my favorite barbers from The Grand have moved over here and now things are even better! They take appointments(!!!), the working environment seems to be much better for everyone, and the place itself is beautiful -- they've really put a lot of thought into it and it shows. The barbers are as excellent as ever -- they really listen to what you want and are skilled to the max. Also, as a genderweird person (who is not a cis dude) -- this place professes to be an inclusive barbershop and they absolutely mean it. I honestly feel respected and affirmed by everyone here. Found this tiny shop thanks to the friendly folks at Reddit r/austin when I moved to town this Summer. I've had 3 cuts by Alexis so far and he does an amazing job and is an interesting dude to chat with as well. Parking is weird, there are some unmarked spots that are ok to park at, it's a little worrying but they'll tell you if you are in a bad spot. Prices are what I would expect for a cut. Linzy did my hair for the first time last month & I've NEVER looked better.
