Absolutely the best experience I've ever had in a barber shop. Rudy does not treat you like any old customer, but a client who deserves his full attention, and it really shows in his work. He works to understand what you want out of your haircut, versus other barbers who just ask what length and number you want on the sides. I would recommend them to anyone who looking for a barber in the Austin area. Regarding covid procedures, a mask is required during the entire appointment, and the barbers wear one as well. I was the only person allowed in the shop during my cut. They also ask you to wash your hands before sitting down in the chair, and Rudy washed his hands multiple times during my cut, and entire station is wiped down and sanitized between each client. Todd "greeted" me by berating me for touching his door knob. I sympathize completely with his worries about COVID threatening to shut down his business, but as I had already sent him a picture of my vaccine record, I would have expected a friendly reminder instead of a rebuke. Concerning the actual haircut, I am admittedly very introverted and know nothing whatsoever of style. The very reason I chose an upper-scale hair salon was that I wanted some guidance, some help, on what sort of new hairstyle would suit me, but I got no useful advice, and on the contrary, faced sarcasm for asking him for a recommendation. I told Todd I wanted a haircut that required very little maintenance, but looked reasonably good, to which he replied that if I wanted something out of my haircut, I'd have to put in the work (as if there were no maintenance friendly haircuts for guys) I tried again, and asked: "Well, what's fashionable these days?", to which he cynically replied: "Mullets are fashionable among teenagers." I fail to understand why he deemed sarcasm an appropriate response to a polite and reasonable question. Other hairdresser usually have little portfolios of recommended/fashionable haircuts, but Todd wouldn't even give me any advice, and furthermore, with his condescending passive-aggressive attitude made me feel as if I was to blame for his inability to give me the simplest guidance on my style. Finally, I showed him an old selfie, and asked him for that haircut. I am not even pleased with what I eventually got. In conclusion: I do not recommend this place. When an appointment is available, my plans with my boyfriend are non-existent. My boyfriend has been to a few salons and Todd is the only one he raves about. I'm a Austin native, and I've struggled to adjust to the price increases that the city has seen in the past couple of years with barbershops. I have jumped around from barbershop to barbershop paying anywhere from $30-$60, because that's what most places charge now, but most barbers don't know how to give a good fade, and they especially don't know how to groom thicker coarse hair. If you have think hair, as I do, you know that it takes a skilled hairstylist to deal with this type of hair, and R Todd and Rudy Baldwin are both skilled barbers and hairstylists. My first visit was with R Todd, and he did a phenomenal job, I became a loyal customer right away. Great conversationalist and very professional. My second visit was with Rudy, he's another Austinite so right away we hit it off and had great conversations, I usually don't talk during a cut.I enjoyed the cut so much I began to schedule biweekly appointments. What I like about Rudy is that he understands the struggle that guys with more hair volume go through, so he applies certain texturing techniques that tame my hair and make it manageable. Even after a few days when my hair has grown right back, I can feel the quality of the cut because my hair grows back evenly and tamed, something I do not get if I go anywhere else. I also like that I can take a pic or an idea of what kind of cut I want to Rudy, and he will do the cut exactly how I pictured it. OR if I don't have an idea of what I want, I can rely on his recommendations, and he gives me a great cut --it's freaking art. I won't go to another barbershop. I recommended Rudy and Todd to my friends and coworkers, really picky guys btw, and they love both of them. There's no gimmicks at R Todd Fisher's like most places that offer beer as an incentive, but they give you an overpriced Great Clips cut. Let me start by saying this is 100% the most soul crushing haircut I've ever received. I'm a guy with a unique look, sometimes it's longer and sometimes it's shorter, but I have a certain look and feel to my hair - I've had it my whole life. It's gone now. Totally devastated. I had longer hair going in, and I asked for the same shape, but within 10 seconds I had an electric razor shearing me like I was in the Army. I'm not the same person. I'm not Adam Levine. I don't like the shaved sides. There was literally no warning. I hate how insanely short it is. So much. And I'm forced to live with it for months and months. There was no discussion, just some light banter and whooosh! instantly my persona is obliterated. It doesn't necessarily look awful - but IT ISNT WHO I AM. I'm not a "fancy hipster". I'm not what they made me into. I had a look and they killed it without second thought. I'm a musician who plays a lot of gigs, and let me tell you - I'll be be wearing a beanie for a long time. I played it off cool, because what else am I going to do when (without any warning whatsoever) someone starts shaving my head. Once you drag those f***cking shears across someones scalp, there's no going back. To my barber: don't make irreversible changes to someone who didn't ask for them. My appearance isn't something to be so reckless about. Seriously, please, for the love of god, if you have longer hair, or a unique look that isn't that "trendy hip shaved sides thing", watch out. Because it seems like that's all they do. That being said, Todd himself was really nice. He didn't cut my hair, someone else did, but Todd is a cool guy. I probably should have scheduled with him. The Yelp review don't lie, Todd is fantastic. I've tried my fair share of hairdressers and barbers here in Austin and while I have found some good ones, Todd is great. Perhaps it's because he specializes in men's hair, or that he stays on top of his game more than any barber/stylist that I've met - he was recently out in LA for a week attending a hair conference. Note: I wrote this same review on Peacock Salon's main profile page. I've been going to Bird's for the last 7 years, and found it difficult to maintain a consistently good haircut. Stylists were constantly moving from store to store or quitting, or working on days when I couldn't make it in. I never felt very confident going in that my hair was going to turn out the way I wanted. Well, with my wedding coming up in a few months, I was motivated to go out and actually find a good stylist/barber that I could keep coming back to month after month, and never have to worry about leaving dissatisfied. It would appear I got it right on the first try. Enter Todd Fisher. I was really nervous going in because I had never gotten a real classic, Mad Men style men's haircut before, and I knew that's what Todd's specialty was. He immediately made me feel at ease (after complimenting me on both my shirt and shoes, which is always nice, even for us dudes). I pretty much told him that my hair was in his hands, and we briefly talked about what I DIDN'T want. When he told me that I had the perfect hair for what he had in mind, I really trusted that he knew what he was doing, and I relaxed as he went to work. I don't think I've ever had someone cut my hair so meticulously and carefully. He took his time and made sure that every strand of hair was just so. He even took a couple seconds to trim my eyebrows. No one has EVER offered or bothered to trim my eyebrows. It's the little things, you know? And that's what a haircut experience with Todd is all about. You feel like he really cares about every little detail. I must say, i walked away with the best haircut I've ever gotten. Period. Todd says he's a perfectionist to a fault, but if you're cutting hair the way he does it, you kind of need to be. He takes his time, every time. I've never seen anyone blend the sides of my hair by hand, and so meticulously. If you are worried about not being able to style your hair every day as good as he does it, let him know and he'll give you a little styling lesson. Highly recommend Rudy for anyone with curls looking for a fresh cut, rather then the usual shearing... His quality and attention to detail gave me the best cut I've had in Austin in over a year. He's also excellent for offering advice on styling and care that doesnt revolve around him selling you expensive product (though they have a good selection!) Wow. I spend so much money for This guy R Todd Fisher was extremely rude and catty . He trimmed the eyebrow hairs with clippers and made them extremely short which made my eyebrows look thin and made me look sickly . I did not ask him to trim the eyebrows , he just did it and made them look so ugly . This man is so shameless and did not even care. He turned into a sassy queen and acted like he was going to trim more of the eyebrows off. Complete rude , overpriced , and the haircut itself was not worth the high price . All you have to do is step into Todd's shop to see his real respect for the barbering trade and its traditions. And in turn, Todd reinvigorates this tradition, client after client, style after style, with a superb technical ability that expresses a highly developed aesthetic sensibility, albeit one filtered through Todd's unique and always dapper personal style. Reviews here for Todd alternate from 'great barber' to 'total a-hole' and I wouldn't know about the former, but I can attest to the latter. The shop on Mueller is nice, clean, and full of vinyl records, appointments are relatively hassle free online. These would earn stars except when you're refused service they stop mattering. I asked for a cut that I could "wash and go without product" to which he responded "Then I am not your barber." No warning of what might happen without product, nor any sales pitch for the value of men's hair products, not even a list of cuts that might work without product (surely there are some!). He simply had me leave. I took off work, planned for weeks, walked through the rain (there's no parking in front), and was rudely refused service. Of course, in the end, he's correct; he's not my barber. So if you're looking for a barber, and you want to use (buy) product, I guess you could go here, but don't say I didn't warn you. read more

The man is an artist, and his new location at Peacock Salon surrounds him with amazing talent. From the moment I enter Peacock, I feel loved (e.g., free beer-- and I'm not talking about Miller Lite, I'm talking about Modelo and shit). Here's the skinny, kids: Todd has been cutting my hair for about 9 months (I can't believe I haven't yelped this before)...and he's been fantastic. I met Todd after I emerged from a very bad hair-cutting experience with a hairstylist in Cedar Park. I had major trust issues at the time - if you saw the haircut that was the final straw with my ex-stylist, you'd understand. It was the equivalent of Jerry's bad haircut on the bad haircut Seinfeld episode only it wasn't funny at all because it happened to me. Anyhoo, Todd is a great listener, and extremely careful with my hair. And he did what I asked perfectly- to the T- each and every time. Todd is like a magician with hair! I once loathed getting my haircut here in Austin. Seriously. I spent several years getting cuts that were ok, but I wasn't completely happy about. I wouldn't consider myself picky, but I had trouble finding someone who consistently got it right. I've been going to Todd for over three years now, and I have never once come away with a cut I wasn't happy with. He's consistent, and has a fantastic eye for getting the cut right. Every time. In my own experience, there isn't anyone else in town as good as Todd. And besides giving you a good cut, he's a funny guy who won't bore you with mindless smalltalk. This guy refused to cut my hair when I came today Saturday at 4:15pm. He said the shop closed at 5pm. He was with a customer and it seemed like it was done because he was just about to wash his hair. I've been Todd's client for seven years. He's the kind of man you're jealous of because he makes a living off his talent. What he does for a living and what he's really good at are one and the same. 'Remarkably gifted' is another way to put him. I've walked into a bar and had total strangers approach me and ask, "where'd you get your hair done?" For years I've received compliments from friends old and new because of his work. He's not rushed. He's precise, meticulous. The standard haircut service is a 45 to 60 minute affair. He will go over time if it isn't flawless. He will get the fade, blend, or 'disconnect' perfect. The portfolio on his site shows how well he does polished, classic, and modern styles. Not only is that true, but he can just as easily do more 'messy' and 'edgy' looks, which I'm often after. Outside of business hours, he's continuing to refine his craft by traveling and attending various conferences to consume and learn as much as he can. And it's paid off, clearly. He now has his own place, he chooses his own product, he has his own apprentices. You really ought to try him. I enjoy my visits to his shop. He was clearly taught the art of Southern hospitality. He'll greet you with a hug, offer you a drink. In the chair he's smart, has an attractive sense of humor, he's conversational and charming. But if all you want is to relax quietly, he's just as sensitive to that as well. His store is never noisy. It's never crowded. It's never rushed. Todd also stocks quality product, including my new favorites Imperial and Layrite. For years I've preferred Kevin Murphy, but I've switched to both of these alternatives at his recommendation, and I love them. Other yelpers have already mentioned the various positives, and I agree: clean and attractive storefront, excellent taste in music selections, online scheduling is easy (Todd will schedule for you at the store if you can't). Tip: Bring cash to avoid a small card fee when paying. A final reflection: On most occasions I try my best to 'trick' Todd into giving me a bad haircut. It's never worked. I'll arrive with some wild idea about 'what I want to try next' with my hair. I'm also a terrible communicator. None of this really hinders Todd in the slightest. He listens, talks me through it, makes a couple suggestions of his own, and then works his magic. All these years I've never sat in the chair feeling 'nervous'. Only excited. I consider myself someone with high but reasonable expectations. When I walked through the door I was really impressed with the decor. It had all the elements of an old fashioned barbershop mixed in with a modern touch. But like a high priced production Hollywood film with a plot that goes nowhere, I quickly learned that it was all smoke and mirrors. It was like the barber equivalent of the soup nazi minus any charm. Many of the reviews were right on point, for these folks, following directions on cutting your hair isn't their forte. The sides were cut shorter than at any point since college as was the top of my head (counter to my instructions). At one point a friend called me as I was waiting for my Uber. I picked it up and in the softest voice I could muster up, I quickly told my friend I'd call her back. Here I am a grown man, and I received the most paternalistic, aggressive reprimand one can imagine. To some reading this it might conjure up some romanticized barber version of "no soup for you". But trust me, it was anything but. If you're going to pay $60 for a haircut (which I don't mind) at least be respectful to your customers. Show a little courtesy and mutual respect. But this experience was seriously anything but. All in all, it was a lousy one that I hope others don't get to go through. read more

Really nice shop. Six chairs and two barbers that work part time. Appts don't come easy so book weeks ahead. I work in sales for a fortune 100 company in town. Have travelled the world and great haircuts all over. First cut with Rudy was average. Second time around I made suggestions as to how we could improve and Rudy didn't want to hear it from his customer. I've never experienced total arrogance from a barber in my life. Even in markets like New York. Whats usually a two minute conversation with a professional turned into a frustrating debate. I left before the scissors came out of his vest pocket. For a premium price (of which is usually worth it), it's not too much to expect from even the most arrogant of stylists, a reasonable conversation about how to proceed. For Rudy it was seemingly to complicated for such an "artist." I'll now use this experience as a case study in my business as an example of ineptitude service and how to lose a an easy going and potentially Loyal and quality customer.
