Hampton Inn Cortland - Guest room

Classic Cars, Classic Service…read more August and my weekend plans where to visit the Northeast Classic Car Museum and Hampton Inn Cortland was my choice for lodging for the weekend. Roughly a half hour drive from the museum. Checking in was a breeze, a quick visit to the front desk, the regular orientation about the hotel and my keycard in hand, a quick stop at the 24-hour coffee bar and I was off to my room in under five minutes. My room was a King Study W/Fridge-Microwave-Sofa bed Room. After the long drive my room was very inviting. The temperature was comfortable as the air conditioning was running. I found the room and bathroom clean and fresh and waiting to provide me with my weekend relaxation time. After getting settled in for the evening I enjoyed a bit Pandora on my tablet using the complimentary Wi-Fi access in the room. The internet was speedy for my needs and I had no drop outs or slow downs even while on skype. To round out the room amenities there is a mini fridge, a microwave, a coffee maker and a collection of coffees and teas provided and of course a television with local programing. Sleeping was nice, the bed was comfortable, the room darkening blinds kept out all outside light including the morning sun and I heard no outside sound, even in the quietest part of the night. Morning brings a complimentary continental breakfast buffet. I had a small bowl of oatmeal with a couple of slices of freshly toasted, well toast. There is a variety of breads and toasters provided. There was also a small selection of hot breakfast items including eggs as well as all you need to make fresh waffles if that is your desire. After breakfast I headed out for my daily adventures. Upon returning to my room I found it in the same fresh and clean condition I had found it when I first arrived. I enjoyed my weekend at the Cortland Hampton Inn and if my future plans find me in the area again I will be booking here again.

The ambience is nice, feels like what you would most likely see in a hotel. Last of all, the pool. The pool is freezing and I wish they would add a heater in the pool not just in the rooms. Thats what made me give 3 stars. I mean at least the beds are comfy.

It is an 1890's style mansion built by Mr. Wickwire, an iron magnate. There are a handful of rooms and a couple of suites all very quant and accommodating. Apparently his family also built a few of the neighboring mansions. As a Cortland Alum I try to book a room every five years or so for my 5 year Reunions. The college holds many events here for alums and I would suggest calling ahead to check busy weekends. My wife and I have stayed in almost every room here - our favorite is the Rist suite. It is large and has a spacious sitting room for entertaining and relaxing. It overlooks the back gardens which are lovely. A modest breakfast is provided with the room and coffee is always available. The staff are delightful and accommodating. It is a nice B&B. We always bring a few bottles of wine for personal consumption. There is no liquor license. There are many outside spaces to relax in and the front porch is a great spot. It is perfect as a home base when visiting town. We will be back. Mark & Nancy.

Full disclosure; I am an alum of SUNY Cortland and have a serious affection for this spot but I challenge any objective human to have a different experience. Stunning period antiques, magnificent decor and impeccable attention to detail and service are just some of the features to love about a stay here. Conveniently located to downtown Cortland and a quick drive to the Finger Lakes Region, Ithaca and even Syracuse. A quick walk to the SUNY Cortland campus of course. Each room is magnificent and the staff leaves no need or want unattended. The rooms are quite reasonable and you can event rent the entire house for a family, reunion or group! We rent out the entire house every year for a group on an annual Finger Lakes motorcycle trip. There is no place like this. The staff is practically invisible and yet every need is met. No meddling owners bothering you; they are there if you need them but leave you alone to enjoy every room in this historic mansion. There is ample off-street parking, verandas to relax on, stunning gardens and great breakfast. Events are incredible and they do it all; graduation, christening, showers, weddings and business meetings. Truly the best of the best.

I booked this hotel for graduation weekend at Cornell in Ithaca because of the cost. I saved almost…read more$800 by staying here as opposed to the Hampton Inn in Ithaca. It is a 1/2 drive from Cortland to Ithaca and 18 mile distance traveled each way and it was well worth the savings. It was a very pleasant stay, the hotel was very friendly accommodating and gracious the whole weekend. We had adjoining rooms and we were conveniently located right by the indoor heated pool with jacuzzi. They have a free hot breakfast daily in the morning and there is always something to drink or snack like chocolate chip cookies all day long that the grandkids really enjoyed. The rooms were cleaned daily and they have comfortable feathered pillows. There is a big refrigerator and decent small microwave in every room besides iron and ironing board and hair dryer. I would definitely recommend anyone needing to stay around Ithaca to come to Cortland for the savings and the service.

However, the room we had looked like it had barely been vacuumed. Whoever vacuumed just did a quick run through. There were remnants of candy, food, especially in the kitchen area. The toaster still had crumbs all over it, the interior of the fridge had food spills and gunk caked on the shelving. There was also no silverware which is odd for having a mini stove/kitchenette. The hotel needs some updating. The pool is shut down for "foreseeable future" per a sign. There are places in the bathroom where the bathtub/shower walls are starting to peel away from the wall. I would not stay at this hotel again.

My boyfriend and I stayed here in June and it was THE WORST. Upon check in the lobby smelled…read moredisgusting...like stale pond water...then when we got to the room the stench was worse. The sheets did not look clean plus the placard you place on the bed to get new sheets was STILL on the bed - so we asked for a clean set of sheets. There were dirty towels still in the bathroom from the previous guests. Stains on the couch. Top of the mini-fridge was dirty. Bathroom vanity was dirty. Clearly the "cleaning crew" gave zero cares about actually cleaning. Fortunately, we read the reviews and traveled prepared with lysol spray and wipes. The only reason we still stayed here is due to the booking site's "no cancellations" policy. I understand Cortland ins't the most booming of places, but this hotel should be ashamed to even operate at this level of low standards! Even for the price, its NOT worth it. Also the free breakfast was a joke. Pastries and a waffle maker set up in this large conference room that was also musty!

It's very close to the highway and the best part of the hotel is there are plenty of places to eat open night or early morning so if your coming in at an odd hour you can find food. The rooms were quiet and clean, and plenty of towels. While there were some television channels not working proper there was plenty to choose from. I am surprised by people who reviewed it 1 star- I'd disagree. This is a budget hotel and should be rated as such. There are three separate areas of the hotel and I stayed at the third. No elevator so you use the stairs (they are wide and it's only 2 stories). The hotel is nothing special but not bad. What you would expect to pay for a lower end hotel and served just fine.
