I would give this place negative stars if I could. This hotel" should be condemned. The room is DISGUSTING!! As soon as you open the door my nostrils were overpowered by the smell of smoke and general filth the more I started to look around, the worse it got. Found bedbugs in both beds. As if that wasn't bad enough, there are people doing drugs all over the place. This room cost me $290 which management would not refund. I would sooner give a homeless person the $290 I spent on a room for parents weekend, and slept in a tent on the side of the road. Avoid this place at all costs. See your kid on a different weekend and stay somewhere where you won't need to get a rabies shot at the end of your stay, assuming you survive the night. Diamond Member - 83 Stays in 2023 Alone Only a single issue remains since I began my stay and it is correctable so this is more a FYI in case you experience it too. 1) Dish Network - TV freezes every 3-4 minutes, picture is equivalent to that in the mid-90's. Inform the front desk if it is an issue andthey'll do their best to assist. They figured out and corrected issues as they arose. This place is a dump. The floors are filthy. The bottom of my white socks got black from the dirt. The toilet hasn't been cleaned in forever. There's black mold in the bathroom. The TV keeps freezing and the picture quality is horrendous. The hair dryer smelt like something was burning and kept stopping. I went to the front desk to and told the person there who didn't seem to know or understand anything and two days later, the problem still wasn't fixed. It took forever to check in and it took 3 people to finally find my reservation. The people here don't seem to understand plain English nor do they seem to care about any complaints. The parking lots and rooms are filled with people yelling and playing loud music until the wee hours of the morning and the neighborhood has way too many sketchy people just hanging around...I would give it a zero if I could. read more

This should not even be considered a hotel. It is an area for addicts and prostitutes to barter for drugs. People walking around like zombies. The hotel looks like it's falling apart. We took one step in the room and it was full of smoke. The manager took off and would not come back when we said we were not staying. He wouldn't take our calls either. They have cardboard and magazines covering the windows. It's so sad to see people living like this. They even advertise Narcon on site. It was very sad. read more

I go to conferences in Cortland a few times a year for workshops at the NY Grange just up the street. Since I'm traveling on the public dime I try to keep costs down when booking an overnight stay. If you are looking for luxury appointments, this is not your place. If you are looking for a place to take off your boots, take a shower and walk over to Hairy Tony's for a burger, this is your place. The room, shower and towels were clean and there was plenty of hot water. The only noise was at 5am when some road crew subcontractors nearby were banging on each other's door to get up and get ready for work, which was ok because I had to get up too. read more

This place is filthy, run down, there's bugs crawling in the beds, tubs are filthy and some rooms don't have hot water, the so called fridge in the room had someone else's leftovers.I don't know where they got the pics they're using but not from this place. Please, DO NOT STAY HERE. Shockingly dirty and dangerous. You won't know until you get here and see it in person, and then it's too late, that's what happened to my husband and I. Learn from my experience and heed my warning. This is literally like the criminal hotel from breaking bad. The room reeked of cigarette smoke and mold, several other reviewers confirm this. Our shower looked like someone was murdered in it, no exaggeration, see the photos. It was covered in grime, mold and cigarette burns. There were exposed electrical wires, broken and dirty furniture. The unit a few doors down had the window completely shattered, likely due to the homeless people who hang around outside the rooms. Every local I've met has told me this place has a reputation for being a run down dump where street workers and drug dealers live. Everyone avoids it, especially at night. The health department had to put up a notice that the office has Nalaxone for drug overdoses because so many have been reported here (see photo). On top of that, the manager is one of the most miserably rude people I've ever met. When we reported our findings and showed him photos, he invalided our concerns and treated us as though we were being unreasonable. He refused to refund us, despite the fact that we didn't stay in the room more than 15 mins. He took our keys, and then tried to kick us out of the office while we were looking a new hotel, even though we had every right to be there since he KEPT OUR MONEY! It's unbelievable that the state of NY allows this to function as is. read more

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. $108 dollars and there were holes in the bathroom door, the front door looked like someone tried to pry themselves out, it smelled like smoke, it was dirty and the curtains were torn. Don't waste your time or money at this place. read more

I rarely take the time to write reviews and complaints like this but I really feel like it is important to do to prevent other families and people from staying at this hotel. We booked through Hotels.com which we were aware was a non-refundable cancellation policy, which is why when we checked in, I happily signed the paperwork that stated so with the nice girl at the desk Rebecca. Upon checking in, our NON-smoking rooms reeked so bad of smoke that it was choking us. I am allergic to smoke and my throat was closing within a minute of being inside. The rooms were infested with ants and the smoke detectors were ripped out of the walls leaving just the exposed wires hanging, which we are aware is illegal. The sheets were filthy with stains all over the furniture and rug, food crumbs on the rug, and there were men smoking crack cocaine right in the room next door with the door open and right outside the room. We were traveling with my father who is a retired New York City police officer who knew exactly what it was. We felt extremely unsafe, uncomfortable, and it was not sanitary to stay in these rooms. I travel for work for a living and stay in hotels 6 months out of the year and I have never in my life checked right out of a hotel like I did that night. We took our bags and headed right to the front desk within minutes of seeing the rooms. The girl Rebecca was so upset at the condition of the rooms that she was actually in tears and agreed to refund us even though it was a non-refundable policy. This was not a cancellation, but a refusal of an absolutely disgusting and unsafe property. We stayed a few minutes away at a Hampton Inn instead that night. The girl at the front desk Rebecca did indeed refund me right after that weekend and I was shocked to see that we were charged again in July. I thought we were done with this nightmare. We have since been credited the three charges of $129.25 for my three rooms by American Express but the Econo Lodge Cortland refuses to accept responsibility, so it is only a provisional credit until the dispute is closed which could take a very long time. We are rightfully due this money after being promised a refund by the employee Rebecca at the desk and also because the rooms were not acceptable or safe to stay in. When I spoke with the manager on the phone recently he was extremely aggressive and kept saying there is a no-refund policy. However, what I kept stressing to him was that the rooms we booked should have been non-smoking, clean, and drug-free. What we got that night was NOT what is advertised online. Even the photos online of the hotel look like they are from a totally different property. He was totally unapologetic and said that the condition of the rooms have nothing to do with a non-refundable policy and that we agreed to no refund when I signed the paper upon check-in. Again, we had no idea what we would walk in to when we went to our rooms, otherwise I never would have signed. I kept explaining that we were promised a refund by Rebecca and actually did receive it before we were re-charged in July for these rooms we did not stay in. He says he knows nothing about Rebecca giving us a refund and that she has since been fired so he can't ask her. I said surely since she was an employee of yours you still have her contact information, but he refused to call her. I honestly would recommend sleeping in your car over staying at this hotel. I hope by writing this I have saved you all of the headache we had to go through. Hopefully we get our money back. read more

My wife and I got a room... Room 121 on 12/12/20 -12/13/20 There was no hot water... At best luke warm water I contacted the office they said let it run for 10 15 minutes i did no difference at all... I called office again they said ill send someone right over to figure it out... That was at 10 am im still waiting its been about half hour and still no one to make it right... I probably wont ever rent a room from cortland econo lodge again... read more

If I could rate this with negative stars I would! This was the WORST hotel I have EVER been at! We left after 2 hours and decided to continue driving instead of trying to get any sleep at all. Check in went fine other than barely being able to understand the man at the counter which I can only assume was the owner. I asked about the checkout process as I noticed there was a box outside the office door for key drop-off. Instead of just answering my question, he insisted on following me out of the office and trying to get me to extend my stay, and asked me numerous times to bring the key back to him instead of using the dropbox. Telling me that if I just wrang the doorbell it would wake him up and he would come out to get the key from me. We were only stopping to sleep for a few hours before hitting the road again early in the morning. We walked into the room and were instantly hit with a smell of smoke and air fresheners that was so strong it almost made you gag. The room was cold, so we tried to turn the heater on, and it blew dust and who knows what else out of it, so we shut that off. There were stains on the beds, and the room was filthy. There was used dried hardened wash cloths hanging from the shower curtain rod. The toilet and bath tub had burn marks all over them, the toilet seat as well as the edge of the bath tub which I had originally assumed were from cigarettes? However, I then noticed what I thought was an entire fingernail on the bathroom floor. I pointed it out to my husband and after he moved it with his shoe, we realized it was a piece of broken glass that appeared to have been from a broken crack pipe, or drug paraphernalia of some sort, which now has me questioning the burn marks all over everything. We left immediately, and found a place that we could shower immediately! It also made more sense to me as to why the owner/desk person wanted me to check out in person. Pretty sure he wanted to make sure that the room was actually empty and he wasn't going to find someone inside overdosed... This was the absolute worst place I have EVER been to! My friend and I stayed the night for a wedding nearby. There were no other hotels available for the weekend. We got a no smoking room. Upon entry it was obvious that someone had smoked in the room as the walls were yellow and there was a stench of stale cigarette. The tub in the bathroom had not been cleaned out and had hair in it. And housekeeping came into the room twice without knocking while we were still in the room, two hours before the check out time. read more

This is one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed at. There were cigarette burns in the sheets and pillow cases even though it is a no smoking establishment. The phone doesn't even work and we had to move the microwave around just to plug it in. The Air condition and some of the lights didn't work either. The other people that are here were up rly late making loud noises making it hard for us to sleep. The staff that works here was very nice and tried to help the best they could but we will definitely never be staying here again. read more

I stayed for 2 nights and did not have hot water either night. I called the front desk the first night and was told they would check on the boiler and call me back, which they never did. Went to the office the next day and told them again, no hot water. They said they would check and then come to my room and see if they could fix it. It never got fixed. I was also never able to connect to the WiFi, even after calling the help number they provided. The second night I was there, I was sitting in bed around 7:30pm after and all of a sudden my hotel room door was opening and some man walked in saying he was bringing me towels. Never knocked or announced he was going to come in, and I never requested more towels. Finally, I was trying to take stuff to my car the day I was leaving and got locked out of my room. I got several different new keys from the front desk (none of which worked). They tried opening the door with a manual key which also didn't work. After a while, they were somehow able to get it open, but only after it had taken so long that I was late for the training I was in town for. Overall this was a pretty horrible experience. The place was clean and quiet, so I guess it deserves a star for that, but the rest of the experience couldn't have gotten any worse. read more

This place is outdated and dirty. The owners are rude and you're completely over-charged for what you get. We were woken up by the owner at 8am because they "thought we left because our blinds were open." The only benefit is its location to Main Street and downtown. I frequent Cortland often and would never stay here again. So much better hotels in the area that are clean, affordable, and have a friendly and more accommodating staff. read more

Whatever you do, DO NOT book a stay at any Choice Hotel/Motel!!! Last month I booked a stay at their Econo Lodge in Cortland, NY for this weekend. Although they gave me a confirmation number I called to confirm this morning, since I had not received a confirmation via email --as they promised. It turns out they booked the wrong weekend and all they could offer me was a double bed, smoking room for $55 MORE. Yes, $55 more than the king bed, non-smoking room because this is a high traffic weekend. I spent 30 minutes being called a liar and a game player by the woman who took my reservation and another hour on hold and speaking with client services at the corporate office. Despite their inability to produce the confirmation email they claim to have sent (which would have proven their error in booking the wrong weekend), they said there's nothing they can do. So, I am making good on my promise to them --to warn others of their incompetence and shameful customer service. PASS IT ON! read more

Stayed Saturday, July 28. Bathroom sink wouldn't drain - told management on our way out for the evening. When returned at midnight, manager left note stating the drain couldn't be fixed but could move to another room. It's midnight, not interested in switching rooms. Brushed teeth, washed hands/face in tub, not ideal. Management was not available at check out; left message asking for discount for this or future visit. Management did not call so I called, left message and no one has returned my calls. Very poor customer service. read more

The room smells like smoke. Sprayed febrezze ourselves. Only to find out ever time heat blows out of the vents it actually blows cigarette smoke in the room. This is from a vent that you have no control and basically smells like fresh second smoke constantly. The secondary heater in the room is seperate. Needless to say no matter what the price I'll choose another place. read more
