Where do I start???…read more This place is an absolute GEM if you are staying in the Trumansburg area. We chose to stay here for our elopement at Toughannock Falls (5 minutes away) and it was perfect in every way. We stayed in the Junior Suite which had 2 bedrooms, creating the perfect getting ready space. The bedding is luxurious and so comfortable. The room had a fireplace and the bathroom had a standing shower and a tub. I regret that I didnt take pictures of the room, only videos, but if you look on their website, they have detailed pictures of every toom available! Guests have access to the entire downstairs, which includes a living room, a dining room, a tea room with many tables, a microwave, and a tea station, and a study type room that has an honor bar and a record player. The outside grounds are absolutely stunning, with flowers everywhere. The fountain out front was the perfect location for a first look! We had a traveling hair/makeup artist and our photographer come to the location and staff were fine with this and at times, we had the whole place to ourselves. I later learned that the space hosts micro weddings up to 23 people (I think this is how many people can be hosted on the property). This hotel is self service. When you enter, there is a key to your room waiting and some info booklets. There is a number to call an on-site staff but there is not a staff in the main house all the time. It was very very quiet and comfortable. I could hear that there were other guests in the hotel at times but I couldnt make out voices or conversations which was nice. Literally the only inconvenience we ran into was when our takeout order didnt come with utensils or napkins. We couldn't find any on site which surprised me based on the other things that were provided, like ice machines, glasses, tea stations, alcohol, etc. Just a small thing to remember if you stay here! The cutest little breakfast and dinner spots are nearby as well. It really is the perfect little Ithaca retreat and so close to so many waterfalls ans activities. I cant wait to go back!

We drove up in September for a CHIN event at the Watkins Glen International Raceway, and our stay at the inn was a highlight. All of the reviews are so true; this is THE place to stay. In addition to serving us a fabulous hot breakfast (alight, beautiful scone, Ithaca Farms yogurt with homemade granola, French toast bake with a bourbon honey sauce and peaches and blueberries, coffee, hot tea, OJ), they provided us two days of breakfast to go since we had to go the track much earlier than they were serving the hot breakfast at 8:30 a.m. These were the goodies in our two days' breakfast to go: fruit (perfect strawberries and nectarines ), bread (croissants , gorgeous french with butter, banana bread), hardboiled brown eggs, mozzarella sticks, chocolate biscotti imported from a bakery in New Jersey , wet wipes, thick napkins, utensils, OJ, water, nut snacks, Nutella/pretzels, peanut butter with special crackers, divided between the two days, of course. Not only did David and Brian welcome us with a lovely wine happy hour on our first day, they also recommended hikes to take, wineries to visit, and restaurants to try. Among their recommendations, these were the restaurants we enjoyed: -Graft: local wine and beer. Tomato salad, mac and cheese with chicken sausage, and bread plate. -Maria's cheeseburger, a hole in the wall with fabulous cheeseburgers, near Colonial inn ice cream at which we ordered salted caramel and peanut butter blast, chunks of peanut butter in chocolate ice cream. The ice cream was soooo creamy! -Jerlandos: pizza and garlic knots (YUM), which we ate outside. We had $5 off $35 coupon from a wine map. -Sinclair's gas station for fabulous subs/hoagies! I have a picture of a whole sub that my husband and I shared (and could have shared with one more person!) and of the thick, fluffy bread, homemade every morning at the store, which is in a gas station! Thank you so much to David, Brian, and Dom! Y'all made us feel at home, and your lovely home is so welcoming and comfortable. Hope to see you again next year!

Instead, it was tasteful and interesting, with beautiful art, books and movies and games, and interesting corners in our own room and the whole house that made it a unique place to stay. Delicious coffee & snacks 24 hrs a day. A beautiful sunroom to play backgammon in and read a book. All the little touches that make a bed & breakfast a truly *special* place to stay. Came here for my honeymoon, and was impressed through and through. Beautiful house, a beautiful room, and a wonderful set of hosts. Breakfast was outstanding, and the cook catered to my vegetarian hubby and I! The best restaurant in the Cayuga Lake areas is literally a 2 minute walk from the doorstep of this B&B. We have mixed reviews of our stay last night at the Cook Mansion. First off... we had to second…read moreguess ourselves when driving in. The home itself is quite lovely and stately. However, there was no attention to detail with weed filled borders and no flowers or mums in the lovely urns gracing the front (unused) entrance. Our host Kris was very welcoming and gracious...Quite a conversationalist and made us feel at home. The interior of the home, had large common rooms, and was clean. It is in desperate need of area rugs, more furniture, wall decor, flowers... anything to add warmth. The room in which we stayed had a comfortable bed and huge bathroom. Both very clean. However, staying at more B & B's than we can count, we were disappointed with the following: 1- A HUGE black plastic bag covered the waste can in our bathroom. I know that sounds petty, but we're in a B & B...not a Motel 6. There was no floor mat when exiting the shower so egress was onto the linoleum. 2- The windows were not only painted shut, but nailed shut. So, no fresh air. (Kris did provide a fan for our use). Most importantly there was no speedy escape route if there was (God forbid) a fire outside in the hall. (Fellow guess we met at breakfasts verbalized the same concern(s). 3- Breakfast was quite disappointing. Scrambled eggs, hash browns and Canadian bacon. All served in chafing dishes in the new, large kitchen. Again... this is fine, however, in a B & B, the breakfast is usually a looked forward to 'event'. Numerous boxes of Entemann's pastries were also available. Plastic utensils were set out, along with plastic cups for juice. Even though there was real silverware, glasses, etc., plastic was set out. Serving ourselves was perfectly fine, there was just no attention to detail. Large containers of sugar, powdered cream, etc., were set on the counters instead of lovely servers. It's the little things that make a B & B. So, all that being said we will not return. Although it is clean, right next to the lovely falls and within minutes of Watkins Glen.

We stayed here for 2 nights in the Cottage Blue/French Yellow Suite - which are two adjoining rooms with a lot of beds - great for a group! The room was so cute and adorable. There was a half bath in the room and a full bathroom across the hall. I absolutely loved the breakfast they provided on the weekends. Lou & Vickie cooked it themselves! The first time we had German eggs - mmmm cheesy eggs - I finished my entire plate because it was so yummyyy! The second night we had peach french toast, which was also very good! There were also homemade biscuits, scones, parfait yogurt with fresh fruits. All the food was nicely presented and delicious! They also serve coffee at 6:30AM for those early birds! This is also a great location if you're visiting Watkins Glen State Park. We were able to walk to the park and save $ on parking. Overall, I had such a pleasant time here at Lake Valley Legends! Lou and Vickie are the ultimate of hosts - friendly, welcoming and so kind. They're also fabulous cooks! The place really felt like our own. 4 of us had two adjoining rooms which was basically our own little suite. One room had a half bath inside and our full bath was down the hallway and only to be used by our two rooms which was nice. We were able to come in and out of the house as we pleased. Everything was so easy. Saturday breakfast: Fresh fruit (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries) with vanilla yogurt and granola to start Coffee, orange juice, water, tea, milk German eggs was the main course - i would compare it to a cheesy frittata Then we were on our way to Letchworth State Park, we came back late afternoon and showered and rested. It felt like we had the place to ourselves. Not once did we feel uncomfortable. Sunday breakfast: Ambrosia - homemade and delicious! Coffee, orange juice, cranberry juice, water, tea, milk Peach french toast - so decadant and sweet. It was more like a baked bread pudding. This was the best! Notes: This place is within walking distance to Watkins Glen State Park if you are up for the walk. It's about a 15 minute walk or 0.8 miles. Once you get to the top of Watkins Glen you can even walk home (all down hill on the walk home since the park is all uphill walking!) You can get there early and not pay for parking too (before 8 am) A great weekend at a wonderful B&B!

The pic below is just one of at least 12 places where you can sit in total silence and write. There were gazebos, benches, nooks inside, a tent covered breakfast area outside and that's before you get to the fireside camps where other people were "glamping" but hotel people can go sit by one of 12 fire pits! I also went out there during the day and took a nap on a leather couch in an outside tent covered living room in TOTAL SILENCE. Well not total silence. There were birds, frogs, and crickets. There were people if you wanted people (and I met two dogs!) but what struck me was the absolutely silence and solitude I could find. I desperately needed it, and I've NEVER found it like this before. If you go and don't want a balcony, room 104 is the quietest. There's a double door (room and hallway) so any children screaming in delight or adults laughing in the common area is blocked twice. Oh! And there's a trail head to buttermilk falls on property and it's right across from a Buddhist temple which just adds to the ambience. Plus the most delicious food and cider and lake views are found in Ithaca. If you need this, GO.
