I have gone twice now. Once was for drag bingo, the second for Mother's Day bunch and a comedy show. One thing I am not a fan of is that they don't open the doors till the exact time they tell you to be there. The buffet is good. Offering different menus for each event. Including eggs, sausage, bacon, home fries, and much more. They have a full bar as well. The drag show was fun as well as aging disgracefully show. They have long tables where you can sit and meet others as well as smaller high top tables for 4. Nice place with fun events. You should try it yourself. read more

Hometown tavern has so much potential, but is lacking something. I've been three times and have not been impressed. The first time was for line dancing. I enjoyed that part. However someone offered to buy me a drink. I didn't really need it, but didn't want to be rude. Well they walked out on their tab, and the bar tender made me pay for it. They said he had a habit of doing this, so why serve someone like that without asking for a card first! I was not pleased. Came recently for a drag brunch. The food was great. However they def sold more tickets than they should have. We were so far in the back that we couldn't see and the queens didn't come back to our area. Very disappointing. Prizes for this event were very odd and cheap. For the cost of the tickets, they could do better! Like give away a free drink or a gift card as a prize! Hometown Tavern is always a fun go-to for me and my girlfriends. Whether we're celebrating a birthday, line dancing, or most recently drag bingo, we can count on having a great time with good drinks. We don't usually come for the food specifically. It's decent, but there aren't many gluten free options, which can be a bit limiting. That said, the atmosphere is what keeps us coming back. We somehow always end up sitting at the bar, the staff is consistently friendly, and the place is clean and well kept. It's a great local spot to meet up, relax, and have a fun night out. read more

We came for the soulful brunch event with a local psychic medium. The event included a ticket to the 'show' and a breakfast buffet. The event started at 10:30am and people waited outside for the doors to open. We were checked in and seated and were able to help ourselves to coffee set up on top of the bar. If you wanted a different drink (mimosa, soda, tea etc) you had to go to the bar in the other room and get it yourself. The buffet was set up on top of the pool table in the room and we were invited to help ourselves with the exception of the bacon and sausage, they had a staff member handing out those two items. While I didn't get a feel for the typical service, hospitality, or food from the menu at this particular event, I'm not sure I would return because it didn't feel like a very welcoming place. read more

When I asked to speak with the manager I was told she was "Busy" and given the name/number of the owner. Went on a Friday night around 7:30-8 and this place was empty, should have been a warning sign. We sat at the bar and were being helped by the manager. I had to ask 3 times for my drink because she was more interested in talking to her friends and had the audacity to cop an attitude with me. In the span of the one hour we were there eating said manager took 3 shots of some sort of clear spirit, clearly likely the reason the service was bad. The food was abysmal, honestly I think the nursing home next door served more seasoned food than this place. I ordered the steak tips and it was served in a bowl with chopped raw onions and mushrooms and literally not a grain of salt or pepper. The mashed potato was lumpy with uncooked potato chunks. I must have been in a strange mood to punish myself before Christmas. Or perhaps, I was in a jolly mood to give this joint one more try. I came here a few times before. I was not impressed with the food quality. Well, I thought, enough time has passed, may be, just may be, the food has gotten better. WRONG! In some sense, it got worse. I don't understand how this place can survive with the calamari and the wings they serve. In Rhode Island, people take calamari seriously. All tasteless and need serious amount of salt and pepper. I think the pre seasoned Swansons from the frozen isle taste better... sad. One thing that is going for them. A good selection of cheap beer and cocktails. The live bands are nice also. We came to find this place on a snowy night. We had planned to go to another restaurant, which happened to have been closed due to the snow. We hopped around to a few different restaurants which were also closed. Luckily, we found the Hometown Tavern. They had a lot of menu options, which I appreciated, since I was hoping to get a healthish meal and you just never know when you go to a random place like that. I got the chicken spinach wrap, and my partner got the chicken Caesar wrap. We both enjoyed our meals. It was a Tuesday night, and the place was relatively empty, which was why I was surprised the service was a little slow. However, everyone was friendly. The inside was kind of like a sports bar type place. They had TVs and stuff to be able to watch the game, and on the other side of the bar, there was a place for bands to play. What a good time Sunday afternoon at Hometown tavern. It was like taking a step back to the good old days... 2019! There was music, laughter, and a whole host of people having a good time. I don't know the name of the band but they were good playing a mix of blues, rock, oldies and country. We sat near the garage doors that open up to an outdoor patio. The place is spacious and they kept the seating far away from one another for proper social distancing. The food was good. The portobello burger was very tasty and very large plated. The hometown burger too was good. They both were bigger sized burgers. The hometown burger was cooked exactly how I liked it, on a fresh bun. Both came with a size side of fries and a choice of onion rings or salad. We both chose a salad. The salad was very generously sized. Fresh veggies, nice Italian dressing, and a perfect accompaniment to the late lunch. For drinks we got a couple old fashions. The price was good, the drink size was very good. We went to hear Dueling Pianos on Friday night. They were fun and engaging. Show started at 830pm. We arrived at 715 for dinner pre-show and ordered at 730pm. Our food didn't arrive until 930pm. All 3.meals were cold and overcooked. Totally terrible. Granted, it was a very busy night but the length of time and quality of food was awful. The wait staff was very apologetic. We've been here quite a few times. Tonight the bartender was an actual jerk. He must be new or SOMETHING. We are all over 23... and he bent my friends REAL ID (yeah we are not sure why it bent like that, but we had other forms of ID to prove it was actually real), and then said "it failed". We even had proof with a CDL permit and multiple credit cards the ID was very real. We asked what to do about the situation, because they broke it and it's real. They were rude and said to take it up with the manager. We had absolutely no patience for this. First off - were not sure why they thought it wasn't real in the first place. Second - the bartender was absolutely rude about it and served everyone else. We are all very clearly over 21. We had proof. I myself just had a birthday, where my real 26 year old ID expired. I was traveling during the time it expired on my bday literally this week. I said I had proof of renewal, and multiple IDs to show that it was real. They were rude and wouldn't let me show them. I've never been so humiliated. I am 26, and my birthday was literally 3 days ago. Now - we have to call the police and figure out what to do about my friends ID. We didn't do it when we were there because we just don't have the time for that We even know someone who works there who would've vouched for us all being WELL OVER 21. They were rude, embarrassing, and totally inappropriate. Again, we're not sure why the one 23 year old ID failed. I get why they were skeptical about my (4 day expired) real 26 year old ID... but we asked if I could show the proof I renewed it. He wasn't nice. He was a jerk. Now we will NEVER be back - and now my friend is calling the police to see what to do about his ID. BTW I flew home with my very real, super scannable 16 year old ID yesterday. Good sports bar in the Warren/Barrington area. Came here to watch the Super Bowl. Good number of screens all around, none particularly bigger than the other. There's a bar area and then a live music area with a stage and space for dancing. Got the tavern burger which tasted pretty good. Their curly fries are delish too. Escarole soup was good though somewhat cold. Wings were Aok, too much batter. Overall decent experience, service was good. Would come back to check out their live music sometime. read more

My husband and the boys were mindlessly driving wanting something quick to eat on our way home from work, school, daycare. We picked hometown tavern as it was one of the Bristol/Warren spots we had yet to hit since moving this way. We walked in and it is a bar setting. I was surprised but that didn't stop us from grabbing a table. Once seated a waitress came and got our drink order. She said she would bring crayons for the little one and asked if we wanted bread. We said yes to all the above. After about 10 mins she came back and asked to take our order. I asked for the crayons. She seemed annoyed however.... I'm sitting here with two cranky kids.... I was ready to put my order in. My husband put in an appetizer, he was still deciding and opted for the waitress to come back. I put in my sons order at that time. The waitress left and then didn't come back for 20 mins. At this point my husband was thinking about not even ordering because it was taking so long. She finally comes back. Husband orders and I remind about crayons again. Husband was going to order more apps but in the essence the first already took too long. We wait again, about 15 moremins for the apps. This same behavior happens again and agin throughout the meal. 2. 5 hours later here we are. This is a shame as the food was really good. read more

I had been curious about this place for a while, since they often host some great live local bands. I headed down on a Friday evening because Neal and the Vipers were playing. Knowing the band's long-standing popularity, I arrived early in the hopes of finding a seat at the bar. As luck would have it, I procured the only empty seat. It was 90 minutes before the band was to begin. It was a friendly crowd and many of the people seating around me knew each other as well as the bartenders. I like that familiar, homey feel. The women sitting on either side of me were friendly and we quickly struck up conversations. The menu was standard pub fare with a few surprises, plus a list of daily specials. I like to stick to the specials when I can, so I decided on the Scallops wrapped in Bacon. When the people around me had their Fish & Chips delivered, I had some serious menu envy. Must return. The scallops were huge and skewered. Unfortunately, the bacon was scant, undercooked and not at all crispy. It came with fries, which were very good. Clearly a rookie mistake and I wouldn't order it again. My date arrived late and by the time he ordered, I was feeling a little hungry. We decided on a pizza with mushrooms and bacon. I had two pieces, but because I was starving, but because it was so good! The crust was thin and crispy, the cheese gooey and the toppings just right. As the night went on, the crowd thinned and more seats became available. It seems a lot of people had stopped after work for a drink or a bite, but weren't staying for the entertainment. Food was not good. I was disappointed. Ordered the bacon wrapped scallops, clam cakes and a "gourmet stuffie". The scallops were frozen from a bag wrapped in 90 second bacon and they were cold. Clam cakes were all dough those were hot atleast. The gourmet stuffie was not good at all. Nothing in it just the stuffing portion. Looks like they took stuffing mix and added Chourico to it. I also had the red clam chowder which was good. To drink I had a raspberry mule which was very tasty. The ambiance is nice. They have bands every weekend. It's been a while since I've been to this location. The last time I was here this building was called fat belly's. The food isn't anything to write home about. The nacho we ordered were left under the broiler a bit too long and the grilled chicken on it was exceptionally dry. The shrimp Mozambique seemed different due to the use of mustard instead of saffron. The taste of mustard was strong and salty but the shrimp was cooked very nicely. We ordered 3 burgers, teriyaki wings and steak tips. The blue burger cane out w/out Gorgonzola cheese, came out medium well and was ordered medium rare, as for the other two burgers, the Barn Burger and Tavern burger both were ordered medium well and came out well done. read more

Used to enjoy this place when it was Fat Belly's, McBlarneys, and when first opened as Hometown Tavern. Now living in Texas I was looking forward to having a few beers with my friends while visiting Memorial Day weekend. Stopped in around 8pm, and the place was empty, only half the bar full, even with a band playing... I now know why, the bartender Joe was the rudest bartender I've ever experienced in my 15 years being able to legally drink. Joe was yelling at bar managers who were doing their job, and giving an attitude to an older gentleman (that wasn't drinking alcohol) who was just trying to order some food. Unfortunately I will never be returning to this once great establishment. Joe should also find a new career, perhaps in law enforcement. read more

After working a long shift at the hospital. I ordered a Bleu burger to go. As I got through half of my burger. I found not 1 but 3 long hairs ( 2 blonde 1 brown) in my French fries. I called Hometown and spoke with the owner John. He was not apologetic. "These things can happen". Was his response. He then asked "what would you like me to do"? Well gee, maybe apologize? Offer to credit my debit card. Maybe.... make sure your kitchen staff wears HAIR NETS ! He did offer me another burger. Thanks... no thanks. Being a guy I listen with guy ears and see with guy eyes. So it's no surprise that in my effort to visit Hometown Tavern to support a great new bartender, I showed up a week early. But I'm no quitter so I stayed for lunch. Let's start with service. My bartender Joy was just that. As pleasant and attentive as she was pretty. She just made me feel like an old friend and our conversation went from teaching to restaurant hopping. If nothing else, the thought of seeing and talking with Joy again would be enough to bring me back. But the food was not just good, it was delicious. Manhattan Clam Chowder and Clam Cakes. Finding Manhattan clam chowder in New England is a really difficult thing. I am a fan of the white clam chowder, but I definitely like to mix it up when I can. It was hardy with that little bit of spice. Just the way it should be. The Clam Cakes were golden brown with a nice crisp outside with a soft almost cake-like middle. The tarter sauce seemed homemade because it really was tasty. I've driven by Hometown Tavern hundreds of times. Even given a worker a ride there in the past, but I've never been in. Can't imagine ever driving by again without stopping. A truly great discovery. Absolutely Exceptional !!!!!! read more

I normally wait until a new place has been open a bit before visiting and reviewing and maybe I should have in this case as well. It was eh. We stayed in the restaurant portion and did not visit the lounge area. There were no obvious changes to the restaurant area compared to the previous restaurant. First off, the service was fast and friendly. Food also came out fast. We were there on a Wednesday evening and it was not too crowded at the time. We started off with the meatball appetizer. It consists of two large meatballs covered in cheese. These were pretty good, but they needed more sauce. There were also hot and lukewarm spots in them like they weren't reheated well. My husband had the sausage and broccoli rabe sandwich. It was really tasty, but could have used a bit more sausage and also had hot and lukewarm spots. I had the chicken parmesan sandwich, which oddly had provolone, not parmesan. It would have been better with the sharper, stronger parmesan. It was also too bready. The bread to meat ratio was off. Mine was piping hot, probably because it went through a fryer. This also could have benefited from more sauce. Draft beer menu was good, but the house cocktail list was super limited with only eight cocktails and four of them were sangria. I tried one of the sangrias it was super sweet and didn't taste like it had much alcohol in it. I do think with time some of these issues could get worked out, like the reheating of the food, a larger cocktail list, etc. We'll give it some time and visit again. read more

So the former Fat Belly's and McBlarney's is now Hometown Tavern. They've been open for about 3 weeks now and I wasn't impressed at all. If you've been here during it's run as Fat Belly's and/or McBlarney's then you will realize once you walk in, it pretty much looks the same. We got here this past Friday around 6:30 pm and it was jammin. We walked in and there was no one at the host/hostess station. So we waited there for like 3-4 minutes. While we are waiting, I see at least 2 bartenders and 3 different waitstaff look at us and then went back to what they were doing. Finally the hostess came back and said there would be about a 5 minute wait. Ok that's not bad at all. We get seated and our waitress was very friendly. We put in an order of drinks and an app (BBQ wings). Took abut 15-20 minutes to get our app. So I was like, I hope this isn't how the rest of the night is going to go. We did place our order for our main course when we ordered the apps. So we finished our wings..and waited..and waited..and waited..and waited.... Our waitrress came over and apologized for the wait and asked if we would like some bread while we waited. Of course we said yes. So we were brought a basket of hot rolls and butter. We finished those..and waited..and waited..and waited... Finally an HOUR after we finished our apps we got our food. I got a burger with onion rings. I asked the waitress if i could have a side of BBQ sauce for my onion rings. She comes back and says they don't have it so she gave me A-1 sauce instead. Umm so you have BBQ sauce for your wings and there's also BBQ sauce on my burger but you don't have any??? My burger was subpar at best. But at least our food was hot. Overall this was not a very good experience. From my understanding the same people who owned Tuscan Grille own this place so you'd think they know how to run a restaurant but I guess they think 1 hour ticket times are acceptable. My husband and I went here last night for the 6th time to enjoy a night of entertainment, Family Feud, which we love & highly recommended! So far the food & service has been dicey, hence the 3 stars. We had the Caesar salad, which was pretty decent, homemade croutons, fresh lettuce, fresh shaved cheese would have made it perfect but only grated cheese. Next we had fried pickles, again not bad but came out fried very dark usually because oil is old & not changed in days. Our main entree that we were sharing was a Sausage broccoli rabe pizza. The pizza looked awesome but we were not happy with it. We each had one slice & Felt it tasted to greasy so sent it back. Then asked for a plan cheese instead. This is the big problem, the manager ROSE came over to correct us, telling us we were wrong and the pizza was fine. Obviously her actions are not management like. On a positive note, our server JESS S. did right by us. She was awesome! Apologized, returned the pizza, took it off the bill & ordered the cheese pizza. She unfortunately had to take backlash from the Manager ROSE which we did witness for doing the right thing. She's lucky to have a bartender like JESS S & long time server's like Angelo! read more

So I came to this local bar for dinner. The chicken parm was awesome and a great deal on Sundays. Haven't been here more than twice, since we just moved here recently. The reason for less than five stars? I'm sitting at the bar and this older female waitress comes over and absolutely BULLIES the young male bartender, to the point she's looking at the bar and counting parties (12) and taunting him about how he can't handle that many parties and her drinks at the same time. Then she's pissing and moaning about how she is SO much more busy than he is and needs her drinks immediately when they are ordered, and irritated, pulls the bottle from him and pours her own wine. He is kind and apologizes. Then I observe her going over to one table, *sitting down* and just chatting for about five minutes, then going to a couple she knows at the bar and standing there for TEN minutes laughing with them before going back to her table of 10-12 which is no doubt "stressing her out". The very young bartender, who by the way was providing excellent service to everyone here at the bar, was actually continuously working, not just chatting with his friends. So if you ever go to Hometown Tavern, please sit at the bar, not at the tables. The service is excellent. read more

This is a nice place but the hours are all over the place. On my first visit the place was open but there was no food until 1:00. The bar is big and they have a lot of TV's and the food that I have had is good. My bartender was very attentive, friendly and was right on top of things. If I knew that they would be open on a regular schedule I would probably stop more often on my way home. read more
