I had ordered togo for two pasta dishes and when I sat down nearby to enjoy it with my child I had noticed a piece of white hair in the pasta dishes that we were sharing and when I went back to ask for a refund I was told no very rudely and accused of lying to them saying none of the cooks had white hair and all of the other staff laughed and made fun of me for asking for a refund rightfully, I have never experienced that poor of customer service before and it is appalling. Disappointing. The reviews tell it like it is. Well the ones that say the service is terrible. The staff definitely doesn't seem like they want to be there. We were sat by the only friendly person in the place, the hostess. Took awhile to get anyone at the table for even water. Flagged the hostess down for a wine list-it was 5pm on Saturday, wouldn't you seat people with a wine list? Anyway ordered pizzas cuz it's a pizza place it was ok. My husband ordered the gnocchi appetizer. It was delivered by a chef who said nothing and Idk why that appetizer is even on the menu. Not good. We wont be back. My friend and I were originally going to a different pizza spot in Dana but they were closed. We found this lil spot and wanted to try it. Unbeknownst to us, we were surprised by all the restaurants down this stretch of road. Mary was our server who was taking care of us for the afternoon and she was so sweet. We both wanted something refreshing to drink on this hot day so we both ordered Sangria Spritz. Everything on this menu looked good but we both decided on pizza. I got a mushroom and garlic style pizza and my friend got a garden style with a bunch of veggies. They were a little overpriced but tasted really fresh. My friend asked for a side of ranch which we were quickly told the chef won't allow them to serve it with his pizzas. Mary did however offer my friend a side of blue cheese or a yogurt sauce they serve which was very nice considering they had no ranch. Overall it's a cute spot to grab a bite to eat in Dana. Wow, the Neapolitan style pizzas are mouthwatering! First time, and the menu has SO many amazing looking dishes. We shared the arugula burrata salad which was impressive in its freshness and quality of the burrata cheese! Haven't been this impressed with fresh ingredients since dinning at a high end restaraunt in Vegas. Open air seating on the inside - the cooler ocean breeze felt amazing. What a welcome addition to Del Prado! The hostess was very friendly and helpful which makes a huge difference on the overall experience. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable even though the place is new. For two of us to share, we picked the chopped salad and pepperoni pizza with mushrooms. Chopped salad was good, not outstanding, but good. For me, the chickpea preparation wasn't my favorite and I love it when peppercinis are sliced and tossed in the salad. And not unusual to most restaurants, the olives just don't have much flavor. Still, I ate the whole salad happily. Now to the pizza...The flavor of the pizza was outstanding. The crust took a few bites to get used to as it is a bit softer than my previous experiences with napoletano pizza. However, after my first slice, I adjusted and was very happy. We ate our whole meal and left feeling like the pizza is quite light as it doesn't leave you with a heavy body feeling. We felt happy and ready to continue on our day. We will be back soon! Came to the Lantern district for a nice Saturday dinner. We tried to get a table at a nearby pizza place which shall not be named, but the wait was 2 hours. Therefore we went looking for another nearby dinner spot. Homeslice looked busy and we were lucky to be seated quickly. Our waiter was initially pleasant, but unfortunately was very absent in his service and did not check in or refill drinks without being flagged down. We went with an appetizer which was mediocre, but we all know the pizza was the highly anticipated dish. The crusts were tasteless and bland. The toppings lacked flavor and didn't make up for the crust. As mentioned earlier, there is a nearby pizza place on the same street which I would recommend over this spot every single time. This place offers some of my favorite pizza in town! I'd even say it's my favorite pizza ever. The only reason we come back here so frequently is because of the incredible dough and tasty toppings like Calabrian chili honey. That being said the service is below average so don't come with high expectations. The bartender with dark black hair is truly no help. (We told him our pizza didn't come out with charred pineapple and he insisted it was underneath the cheese we just couldn't "see jt" well how did you CHAR the pineapple on top if it's underneath the cheese? ‍‍ he assured us that's just how they do it even though we eat here often and always see the charred pineapple ONTOP. non the less we didn't argue but when we took it home and finished the whole thing guess what. . THERE WAS NO PINEAPPLE!!) The past 4 times our pizza has been brought out wrong but we preface the dinner or pick up order with "THEY ALWAYS FORGET SOMETHING ON THE PIZZA CAN YOU DOUBLE CHECK IT BEFORE IT COMES OUT?!" and of course they kindly say yes but it always comes out missing an ingredient listed on the menu. Maybe this is because they're low on inventory or maybe they're just in a rush but it always makes us laugh. We jokingly always tell friends that come with us "order the Delacroix but it might not come out with sausage" "try the forger but they might forget the pine nuts!" Food is pretty good for the most part. My husband and I went to eat last week and he ordered the Ahi Sandwhich and ate half there and took half home to eat later. When he bit into it a big piece of wood hurt his tooth. We live next door and walked it over and showed them. They gave him a $20 gift card.... A $20 gift card??? That's offensive. Really wanted to like this place because we're local. We've tried it three times now and it's just disappointing there's a reason truly has a 2 hour wait and we got into this place right away. The pizzas were lacking sauce and cheese and they don't have any ranch... what pizza place doesn't have ranch? Instead they bring us out blue cheese and they CHARGED us $2 each for the blue cheese that was not even good and doesn't go with pizza? The pizza had chilli flakes, tons of them, which meant I couldn't feed to my toddler. The dat dough was stale and horrible with a bit of garlic on top, looks like they made it yesterday so not fresh. There were so many great choices on this menu, I didn't know where to start. That alone, made me think I might need to go back. Tasting the food convinced me I will be returning. I ordered the seared ahi sandwich. It was very messy and hard to bite into. Some people like that. Me, not so much. But it was delicious and I ate every bit of it. The Calabrian pepper and honey sauce was amazing. I can't eat spicy foods; the garlic aioli was more spicy than this sauce (and in the future, I'd probably leave that off). The menu is creative and intriguing. I saw so many things I wanted to try, especially the pizzas. The "desserty feels" martinis sounded wonderful: Key Lime Pie Martini, Tiramisu Martini, Camp Fire S'mores Martini, and Espresso Martini. This is in a less congested area of Dana Point on Del Prado, so parking was easy. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to go back. read more

Today was my second time eating at Homeslice. Both times the service was good and the restaurant is clean and airy. My friend and I each ordered the chopped salad. The $18 salad is mostly chopped romaine lettuce (not blended greens as stated in the menu) topped with about a tablespoon of very finely grated cheese and about a tablespoon of black olives with two pepperocini peppers and a handful of "crispy chickpeas" that were leathery and tasted stale. About 1 and a half very thinly sliced pieces of salami cut into six pieces are placed around the edge of the plate. This was the second time we ordered this salad. The first time was just after they opened, we thought maybe the restaurant was going through a learning curve so we decided to try it again. It was no different today. We left feeling hungry and ripped off having paid $72 ($36 plus a tip each visit.) I wish I had taken a picture of this woeful salad. The pictures posted online by others is deceptive because the plate is not large. I am sure that management will not reply to this review because they have not replied to any of the other reviews on this site. I'm literally so saddened to write this review. I have been a huge fan of Homeslice since they opened (we were there opening day). The food is great. HOWEVER, they really need to get the business side of the restaurant figured out so that it meets the standards of their food. The last couple visits have been subpar, but none more than our visit today. One, they apparently don't open until 12pm now, ok, seems weird for the main strip on Del Prado, which is supposed to be the main draw for food and entertainment. But again, OK, we went to another local favorite at 11ish for appetizers. We waited until just before 12 and popped over to Homeslice. Arrival time 12:06pm. The hostess proceeds to tell us that they are not sitting anymore tables for 35 minutes because they only have one server and don't want to overwhelm him.?!?! The restaurant was not full (not even half full and its small), bar was totally empty, and they turned us away??? I worked in the restaurant industy for over 12 years and my son currently works in the restaurant industry, so we are super forgiving but I have NEVER heard of such a thing...6 minutes after you opened!!! I get it, we all have hard days, but this to me, and to everyone in our party, (only 4 of us) found this super crazy, and also reallllly bad customer service. Totally bums me out!! read more

I had the Plato Pizza. It's really just a small hot soggy flatbread with fancy but tasty toppings including a balsamic drizzle. Had they actually made this with fresh pizza dough I would be giving it a higher rating. Don't be fooled it's a flatbread appetizer mislabeled as pizza. Why call a restaurant Homeslice if you can't even make an actual pizza dough from scratch? My husband ordered the meatball sub. It looked like a 3 bite child size serving. For $16-18 just for a tiny sandwich it was a total rip off. Obviously helping pay the rent in the building. Also made the mistake of going in the evening. Inside seating is the same as outside seating. Open air concept means you're freezing whether you sit inside or out. Staff there was pleasant enough. Our waitress was ok.
