4.5 stars ? We just got our roof done (April 2020) The good - we liked the quote process. They were one of the lower quotes with the best warranty. The guy wasn't pressuring (like other companies were) we even waited a year to make the decision and didn't get harassed along the way. They were really fast. Did our 2000 ft ranch in 3 days. They were pretty clean. Didn't leave a bunch of debris around our house. The roof looks great. The bad -- the communication part kinda sucked. We didn't know when they started, who to communicate to. (They did apologize and mentioned that that doesn't happen a lot). Luckily I would talk to the lead roofer every day before I left for work but not at the end of the day. Wasn't aware they needed access to the roof day 2. (Luckily didn't inconvenience me ) The biggest issue for us is that our new gutters got damaged along the way but since our gutters were only a year old they replaced them free of charge. Pretty good experience and will recommend to others ! read more

Great folks out here in SE Portland. Bidding was competitive. Work was fast, and solid. When the work wasn't "quite right" -- they scheduled a followup and met their obligations without complaint or upcharging. Our roof looks great and the gutters can breathe again! When I asked the estimator if he thought we needed new shingles on our 8+ year old roof, they said it was in good shape and shouldn't need to be done for another few years. I rarely give 5 star reviews. HomeMasters deserves one. From the initial quote to the final inspection, this is the best experience my spouse and I have ever had with a home improvement contractor over more than 30 years of home ownership. Communication was timely, appropriate, and informative, and we never once felt that anything was going the wrong direction. We actually dealt with two offices - our project manager works at the HomeMasters office in Tigard, and the scheduling and work crew are based at HomeMasters in Vancouver. The project manager was thorough during the quote process as well as in following through on questions. We had all of the details of what would be installed in the quote, and we asked about a couple of different options for attic ventilation. The roofing crew (out of the Vancouver office) was easy to deal with. Every time I came to look at progress, they asked if I had any questions or concerns. On one of these occasions, I pointed out that two exhaust vents had not been installed, and when the crew lead informed me that they had not located the vent lines when working on those roof sections, they also suggested that we look for the lines in the attic - which were found laying in the insulation. Once the vent lines were located, the roof vents were installed. The shingle color we chose is proving to be very popular - to the point that the roofing supply company (supplier to HomeMasters) shorted our job 3 bundles (1 square). The work crew informed me of the shortage as soon as they realized they didn't have enough shingles to complete our roof on Wednesday, and we had phone calls from the Vancouver office, keeping us posted on their progress in locating shingles to finish the job. Enough shingles were located (and delivered) by Friday, and work was finished on Saturday. Above and beyond: I have two antennas on my roof, one for TV reception and the other for ham (amateur) radio. I took the antennas down before work started, and expected to do all the work to reinstall the antennas when the roof was complete. The roofing crew helped me install the new tripod mount for these antennas - I had expected to deal with this entirely on my own! Final inspection was completed today - and there were no surprises. We know what to expect, and a rough timeline of when to expect things, for getting all warranties registered. read more

I needed to repair or replace a leaky gutter. 2 estimators were sent. They said that the gutters needed to be replaced, that to replace the gutters they would need to remove part of the roof and install a flashing. They inspected the roof and said that I needed new flashing on 2 skylights. They also recommended that the V areas of the roof be checked for dry rot--very threatening! I agreed to this extensive sales pitch--even agreeing to replace a skylight. The cost of the repairs was over$7,000. They replaced an opening skylight with a skylight that doesn't open. When I asked for an opening skylight the said that I hadn't specified an opening skylight and that would cost another $1,500. The V areas of roof were fine however when they replaced the tiles, they left a gap of about 10"" between the house and the roofing. Tiles were broken and missing. Good salesman. Homemasters showed up to quote my gutters and all went well. They had the best price by far, a great salesman, and within a week I was under contract. It all went bad from there. The install that would be a week or two out was more like three to four weeks. The people that worked on my gutters were great but didn't really communicate with me until the last day (after completing the work incorrectly). They left and I assumed my job was done. A week later a supervisor comes by to sign off on the job. He informs me that "due to my roof type and condition of roof they were unable to install flashing and felt as part of the gutter install". Not only was that part of their pricing but they just finished the job incorrectly! They didn't stop and ask or give me any options. This meant I had raw wood in many areas that water was leaking on every time it rained. After a long process of emails, phone calls and horrible customer service they finally agreed to credit us 1,000 for the lack of completed work. Then came the kicker - they provided a quote to come back and correct all issues and install the flashing and boards (that we thought they already had done) as well as replace a few tiles they broke. The quote was astronomical considering just weeks prior they could have done this as they were working and avoid it being an entire new job. After many discussions we felt at their mercy and agreed to pay the full amount - another 2600 which now made them far more expensive than the three other quoters. We had to fix the issues though! We also had to have them replace runs they had bent or damaged. Long and short they came back to fix it, told me it was as much work as the first time but somehow worked less than 8 hours total on this. The supervisor calls to tell me they can't fix the tiles because they are unable to locate my type of tiles. I say "don't worry I have some spares - I will put them outside and deduct 10 each from the invoice as that is the cost". He says ok we hang up and I'm finally done. Not so much. I get the invoice and the tiles are a line item for material I provided ! I immediately contact accounting and explain I provided the tiles and I understand that the labor is still due but not materials I provide. She gets back to me after talking to her manager and RAISED my invoices ! States due to location of tiles it was 25 each not 10!!! We go back and forth for weeks. A manager never calls me. To date hasn't called me. Finally my Husband and I decide we still owe them the majority of money. I send one check for labor and job and a second check for the tile install minus the cost of tiles. They cash both. No word. No email. 60 days later I get a late invoice for the balance of tiles only. I immediately email back again stating I'm not going to pay this and I have requested multiple times for a manager to call me. Today I get the response that "I have placed you on the Do Not Service list due to your lack of integrity to pay based on your contract". I have paid this company upwards of 5k and I'm on a do not service over 30.00. You think I'm kidding. I'm not kidding. I'm attaching the most recent email. This company is irrational- unprofessional and flat out non responsive to customers. When we were trying to negotiate the "change order" due to them not quoting the job right to begin with- my husband had to go into the location because they weren't returning our calls. I had to share my story. I'm currently refusing to pay the 30 and again requesting in writing someone reasonable contact me. I'm also going to file a complaint with the BBB today read more

We just purchased our first house in November with a 20 year old roof. We new we needed to be proactive, so I started getting bids on a new roof. My husband and I wanted something energy efficient since we don't have air conditioning, so were looking for metal roofs. I got about 5 bids before Matt, the project manager at Homemasters, came out. Now this house is weird because it is a manufactured house that was put on a daylight basement, so there are many differences about this house than a house built from the ground up. Matt was extremely knowledgeable about manufactured homes and how they are built. Because of this, he thoroughly explained how we had too much intake of air under our roof and not enough exhaust by far (I didn't even know that roof's had a ventilation system). He explained to me that we don't have to resort to super expensive metal to get energy efficiency and long life of the product. We settled on a black shingle that has an amazing waterproof and tearproof undercoating that repels heat instead of absorbing it (which is why we could do a black shingle and not risk our cooling bill!) Also, he showed me the "guarantees" of other shingle companies and their fine print that shows how their guarantees are basically garbage. CertainTeed's (the shingle company) guarantee isn't prorated! Now, this isn't my first rodeo of being a young woman who looks younger than she is. I have been talked to poorly, treated like I am dumb, and lied to by salesmen. But Matt didn't "mansplain"; just explained and answered questions. It was refreshing! Also, I looked up information that he gave me after he left and found that it was all true. With all of the extra venting we would need, the bid ended up being about the same as the other companies for shingles even though there was going to be a lot more work involved! The workers came a few days later when we had a break of rain. They were as quiet as they could be, very nice, and professional. They finished in 2 days and the roof looks amazing! Also, I was a little worried from looking at older reviews that they wouldn't pick up the debris from the roof. We have a dog, so I wanted to make sure that this was done. Well, they did an amazing job cleaning up! I think it's impossible for them to get every little piece, so there were a few pieces found here or there, but practically all of the debris was picked up! It turned out that the crew had accidentally put one of my tarps in the dumpster which we used to cover up the lumber they were using when it rained. We didn't care and didn't expect reimbursement, but we just let them know in case they were wondering where the tarp in their dumpster came from. Well, they are giving us a brand new tarp, even when I said they didn't have to. I really appreciate that! I would confidently say that when you choose Homemasters, you are choosing a company that is different than the one from years ago. It sounds like they got a new owner. My wife and I used Homemasters to do a full-roof replacement on our first home that we recently purchased. The first portion of the work was great; they were prompt, they had good estimators, and they really seemed to know what they were doing. The problem wasn't from the roof installation, it was literally everything else that they did. At the end of the roof installation, but before all the finishing touches were completed, they charged the remainder of the account, which we payed... lesson learned. During this roof installation process, they noticed that our current skylights were damaged and offered to replace them with new ones for around $1000, which seemed fair. During the removal of the old skylights, they tore chunks of drywall out (surprise!) and told us that they'd be sending a drywall guy to repair it. This took weeks, and numerous phone calls to get someone to come out and repair it, and we were billed with $700 on top to fix the drywall. During teardown they also noticed that we had some dry rotted sections of plywood, which they charged to replace. They did not replace them for weeks, and took numerous phone calls. They finally replaced them, but then said they would come back later to paint, and they didn't. More phone calls before they finally came back out. At minimum, 6 weeks. Last, but not least, the gutters. I called to inform them that after the recent rains we noticed some dripping from the gutters, and they told us that someone would come out to investigate (and if it wasn't a warranty issue, they'd charge us $75 for the trip plus labor). Nobody has come, nobody has called to schedule. I investigated on my own, and we have areas of standing water in our gutters, as they were clearly improperly pitched. During gutter tear down of the old stuff, I happened to notice loud cracks and violent swings of the gutters along the backside of my home. During this gutter inspection today, I noticed large chunks of my custom wooden window frames that were gouged out and refilled with white caulk... I should mention that they started work on my home in early June. It's been three months of this nonsense, and we're still fighting to get the work finished properly, or at least satisfactorily. This whole thing has been the biggest frustration. Save yourself the headache, and go someplace else. read more

I purchased their Bronze package which consisted of removing loose debris with a high volume air blower, clean out the gutters by hand, reinstall loose nails, clean out down spouts, hand scrape concentrated areas of moss buildup on the roof (which was minimal on my house), and treat the roof with a Zinc Sulfate compound to slow down moss and algae. Total cost for this package was $325. On November 15, I met with Don, one of the service managers so that he could submit a quote for the Bronze service to me. I wrote a check and prepaid for the service. Don told me that they were scheduling services about 2 weeks out, but that someone from the office would call by Tuesday, November 20, 2012 to firm up the appointment date/time. No call ever came. I ended up contacting HomeMasters on Thursday, November 29 and inquired about when an appointment was to be scheduled. I spoke with James and he told me that he was getting ready to contact me. We scheduled the appointment for Sunday, December 2, 2012. Areas that need improvement: 1. Don't make the consumer call you to inquire about when a service date has been scheduled. Be pro-active and inform the customer of the date the service is to be scheduled. 2. I would like to see additional information on the 'HomeMasters Exterior Report' which is mailed with the invoice after the service has been performed. More descriptive measures need to be included to give a more informed report on the roof and gutter conditions. Although I'm a hard consumer to please......I'll most likely use these guys in the future for my next gutter/roof cleaning service. read more

My neighbor recommended Homemasters. He was very happy with their service. I had a few other quotes done on a total tear off and installation of a new roof. The quote was competitive and the sales person knowledgeable and pleasant. All of the staff was very nice but.... it took them over 3 months to finish the project with over 15 unique visits to the house with every visit requiring that I 'check' on the quality and completeness of the work and communicate that to various managers. At one point, I did not hear from them for over 5 weeks while debris covered my yard and vent sat improperly installed in Oregon winter = rain. Do not use this company. read more

Cost me time and money and never set foot on my property. I called "Homemasters" because they were doing some work on the house across the street. Guess I should've looked on here first. We need to replace the barge boards along the roof line of our house before we have it painted at the end of the month, so I went ahead and scheduled an appointment for appraisal. It was for almost 2 weeks out. Hoping to get lucky I told them that they had a crew of 6-8 currently across the street and maybe 1 of them could free up a sec to take a peek , but to no avail. Worth a shot. figured this was still enough time before the painters arrived. On the morning of my appointment I received a call saying that it had been cancelled and that no one would be stopping by because I have a cedar shingle roof???? We live in Oregon, half the roofs out there are cedar. I have a voicemail saying that they weren't capable of doing the work. So when I called in for an explanation I was told that the job was difficult and expensive and they wouldn't do it. Unless I wanted a new roof I imagine. Most salesman jump at the sound of money in my experiences. Not this place. Maybe you shouldn't be called "Homemasters". The lost money is my daily wage (union operator). Glad I took a Tuesday off for this. Funny thing is was I asked if someone had to be home for the estimate or if I could just grant access to my property? The response was someone needs to be there. When Homemasters canceled my appointment for 3:30pm @ 9:00 am that morning, they told me it was because of information the rep found ONLINE..! Guess I didn't have to be home. read more

Beware! Beware! Beware! I purchased the, " Deep Clean Shake Treatment" They damaged my roof so severely that I now am having to replace my roof. I specifically ask the representative if the cleaning would damage the roof and he assured me they used low pressure and high volume water and would not damage the roof. After the first day the representative admitted that roof was damaged so severely that it would be useless to apply the treatment;, they still are trying to charge me for the treatment they never did. The irony of the whole mess is Homemasters offered to give me credit for the work if I would let them replace replace the roof. Homemasters is $13,000 (40%) higher than the next bid. The whole fiasco with Homemasters is going to cost me about $20,000. After talking to HOMEMASTERS and trying to resolve the issue I am seriously looking for an attorney. read more

I contracted Homemasters to do my roof back in September 2015 (~2 years ago). In the 2 years after the installation was complete, there have been only minor/medium issues. 1st - The skylight was not reinstalled correctly and there was a large draft in our guest bathroom. I called them and told them about the issue and they came out and fixed it. No question asked. 2nd - This one is a concerning one. Two months after the installation was complete, I went into my attic to get christmas decorations and I noticed a flue to disconnected. This flue was from my furnace!!! Not good! Because the upper half was going directly through the roof, I could not reconnect it myself. I called HM and again, they came out and fixed it. No questions asked. I truly believe both issues were honest mistakes vs laziness/incompetence. My most valued characteristic of a contractor is their ability to quickly and peacefully resolve issues. Both of my issues were after I had made my final payment and they did not delay their resolution response. I'm dinging them 1-star because of the flue issue. Had the flue been in another location, I might not have caught that for years. :( The cost to work with them is quite pricier than other companies we quoted, but like I said, we haven't had any major issues. 4 Stars...I would use this company again. Stay away from this dishonest company. I had them come out to do replace a section of the damaged gutter. They managed to upsell me into cleaning as well. My mistake to let them talk me into it. I signed the contract on spot and paid the deposit. A couple days later, the guy called me and said they don't have the same style. He asked me if I could live with two different styles of gutters on my house. I was like, of course not, seriously, why did you even bother to ask...He said he will look for other companies to do matching style. A few weeks later, I decided to follow up with him. "oh, I'll look into it and call you back" - that was the response. Today, the cleaning guys showed up. After they did their work, one of them pointed at the damaged gutter and said, hey this should be replaced. That starts the WTF moment. I immediately call their office as well as the contact person. The office told me there will be another work order while the contact person simply said they won't do the replacement because of me. Apparently the story is still developing but it's bad enough already to share with other folks for awareness. So, listen to other reviewers and do yourself a favor - turn around, spend your time and money somewhere else. read more

Disappointed in their service. Here is a letter I mailed them with my check for $600. I never got a response. I am letting you know of a concern about some miscommunication regarding HomeMasters Deep Cleaning Maintenance package. Prior to the service I called your office to verify the difference between the HomeMasters Deep Cleaning Maintenance package and the HomeMasters VIP Maintenance Package as your salesperson insisted we needed the Deep Cleaning Maintenance package even though our roof is only 3 years old and we had it treated for moss the previous year. Specifically I wanted to know the difference between the two. I was concerned about the scrape and broom on the VIP package vs. the low pressure high water volume on the Deep Cleaning package. When I called your office to get clarification on the two I was assured the water pressure was very low and the machine was designed to clean roofs and would cause no damage. Attached to your invoice was a document that explained that 'although Homemaster's uses a high end professional roof cleaning machine is not preferred because the process is harder on the roof than our VIP roof maintenance, however your salesman Dick said the scrape & broom causes more damage. Now I have a concern about the condition of not only our roof but the skylights because when the crew was washing our roof there was a torrent of water that came through the sky light where we have not had any leakage in the 3 years we have had these sky lights. We were also told the sky lights would be cleaned while the crew was up on the roof which was not done nor a downspout put back in place. The Deep Cleaning Maintenance package also was supposed to include an application of moss & algae treatment. Overall I am dissatisfied with what I thought we were getting compared to what we got. The cost to do this work was considerable and I do not feel it was worth what we spent on it. I recommend you ask homeowners whether they want a sign on their front lawn with your company name on it. I was not asked and I did not want that in front of my house. I still have it if you want it but will throw it in the garbage if not picked up in a week. I would appreciate a response to my concerns about the condition of our roof, the leak in the sky lights and whether a moss & algae treatment was done as stated in the estimate. read more

Our roof is 15 years old and developed a leak that came through in our bedroom. Based on a recommendation from our architect, we called Homemasters, even though they are located in Tigard and we are in Gresham. An estimator came out and gave us the hard sell on Homemasters replacing our roof (approximately $6,000) and estimated $250 to fix the leak. A bit high in my opinion, but okay. They came out promptly, looked in the attic, and said the leak was from missing flashing around a vent pipe. They repaired it and we paid. Next big rainstorm, the roof leak showed up in our bedroom again. We called Homemasters. They came out quickly, looked in the attic and said the leak is from the valley (about three feet away from the vent pipe). They fixed it. Big surprise when we got a bill for $278.50, including a $75 trip fee. My husband called them to discuss the bill and Homemasters did not budge. I just called them again today because I couldn't believe this was correct. The billing woman was very polite. I questioned whether Homemasters guarantees their work, and questioned why they didn't find the "second" leak in the first place. She gave the standard line that old roofs leak in several places, yada yada. When I asked how a leak three feet away was missed the first time, she said she would talk to the production manager and get back to me. Very quick return call from the nice billing lady. She said the cost would be waived if I have them replace the roof. When I expressed my surprise that this is how Homemasters is choosing to handle this, she said the most she could do is cut the bill in half. I will pay one half of this second bill and will NEVER use this business again. I understand that an old roof can leak in multiple places. I do not believe that they located the leak the first time, or if the leak had two sources, that they couldn't have addressed both leaks in the first visit. Three feet apart, people. I would probably have been unhappy but not outraged if they charged me just for the second repair, but when they added the trip fee, I couldn't believe it. If nothing else, I learned a lesson about using local businesses. This company was not interested in having a satisfied customer unless I was willing to spend thousands with them on a new roof. Just had new gutters put on my house by them two days ago and today I receive a notice of a right to a LIEN on my property through ABC Supply company because services were ordered by HOME MASTERS of Portland. Nobody was available to tell me what this was about today, so I said to have someone call me or I may have to cancel my check. I was told if I cancel my check, they will come take my gutters off. HomeMasters installed a garage door opener in July 2014. After installation, I mentioned to the installers that it didn't look quite right. When they operated the door, the track in which the screw drive sits slid in and out, pushing the motor back and then pulling it forward. It looked like an accordian. They assured me that this was normal. Huh? In November 2014, I called HomeMasters, because the garage door was not closing all the way. In the meantime, upon operation of the door, the track completely came apart, spilling parts all over the garage. The track slid completely apart and halves are now dangling from the motor and wall. By the time HomeMasters got around to calling me back to schedule an onsite visit, it was December. They sent 1 person out who accused me of locking the garage door then operating the opener in such a way as to break it. This is completely false. Since I've owned the house, I've never engaged the lock on that garage door. And I would never operate a garage door opener when the door was locked anyway. They stated that it was my fault and they refused to repair the opener. I contacted the manager of the office, and he stated that the garage door opener used was not a good one, and that he doesn't recommend using that type of opener. What? HomeMasters bought the opener! I had no say in which opener was installed. The manager does not recommend the very opener that his company is going out and installing? It would seem he should have some sort of control over that. Easy problem to solve and yet they don't. If a company cannot stand behind their product and services, then I will happily take my business elsewhere. read more

Went back to Homemasters, who had also bid on the job, and they honored the original bid price (was 2 months old by that time). Sales person (Doug) showed up on time. Crew showed up on time and when they were done, the yard was cleaned like they were never here. Roof looks great. Last guy here to do the walk thorough (Jeff), was on time and documented that all of the work was done as asked (like hooking up the bathroom vents). Doug Walhood gave me an accurate appraisal of the work that needed to be done, good advice and recommendations along the path to a proposal that I approved.They did a superb job, thoroughly completing all the details and leaving the job each day neat and tidy. Their work was superior, and they were very easy to work with at all phases of the project. They removed an old wood chimney chase that had worried us for years. Working on our job through the weather windows, less than accessible driveway, and steep slopes, they finished after about a week of steady, daily work. Homemasters has done work for me in the past, and I would not hesitate to use them again, or to recommend them. read more

After an unbelievable quote from LeafGuard for gutters, I called Homemasters. The estimator arrived exactly as scheduled. I told him I was interested in the gutters that looked like the leafguard. He looked over my yard and house and recommended a different ( and less expensive) type that would take care of all the fir needle problems. The guys showed up today and did an absolutely FABULOUS job. They worked through a torrential downpour, got all the gutters up and looking terrific, and treated my roof for moss, all in about 6 hrs and I have a really big house. The installers were two of the nicest guys every. I highly recommend trying this company if you're interested in something like gutters. Appears they don't work on our type of gutter and the technician acted like I was wasting his time. He did the work anyway and did a great job, I just didn't care for his attitude about it. The exception is the nice receptionist, she was very helpful and professional. read more

The team at home masters did a great job replacing our 20 year old shake roof with a Presidential Composite Shingle roof. They provided alternative financing when asked and had a very responsive team come out and do the work in just 4.5 days during a hot dry stretch of weather. They cleaned up well and were very courteous. The salesperson, Alan, was creative in setting up the financing options and very responsive when getting the competitive bid to us the beat 2 other roofing bids in the area. I would like to give a shout out to HomeMasters Roofing & Gutters. I needed a new roof & gutters this season. After checking around and getting the run-around I decided on HomeMasters to do the job. A very knowledgeable & nice man, Phil Clark, came out and walked the roof & checked gutters and downspouts. We needed a new gutter system put in as our old one was wooden and falling apart. He explained everything in great detail, the bid was in the middle of the four I had obtained, their warranty was better than the others. To top it off, HomeMasters is one of the few roofing companies that offered financing at a great rate. The entire job was done within one week! The finished product is fabulous. I found Home Masters through an Angie's List coupon. They removed moss from my garage and house roofs, applied an algae control and cleaned out the gutters and downspouts. I was unable to be at home while they were working but the roofs look good! The invoice was sent a few days after the work was completed. read more
