For the girls and I, this is our comfort spot! Semi and Maria always go above and beyond! They're incredibly friendly, attentive, and make you feel so welcomed every time you walk in. That kind of service really keeps you coming back. The food is amazing across the board, but I have to say... I will always spend the extra $5 for the mozzarella cheese on the spicy rice cake. 1000/10 every time. It's 100% worth it. We had a really long day and thought a Korean restaurant would be quick and easy, especially with side dishes. However, this place took such a long time, almost 2 hours to serve the food. The side dishes didn't come out until the very end. There was only one large party other than us when we first got there. Another family came in, and they were also waiting until we were done with our food for their order. Disappointing. This is as authentic as it gets! THE OG Korean food spot of Anchorage. Super friendly staff that were very welcoming in such a tiny cozy location. The food comes with almost a dozen small plates of various kimchis, and other tasty dishes like tofu, and lotus. The combo of the rice and kimchi is very filling so don't be surprised when you get full after just a few bites! The flavors were amazing and incredibly complex, love the pork belly they serve here. Overall fantastic experience and to top it all off I once accidentally left my wallet and didn't realize it until 2-3 hours later, I called them up and the staff held onto it for safe keeping! This was an excellent and authentic Korean restaurant. One of my coworkers was craving some galbi-tang so he picked this spot. It's fairly small inside but I did notice that there were a lot of people picking up take-out. The lady who seated us, also served us. She was very friendly. I wanted to try something new so I thought a Goat Stew sounded interesting. My order, the Goat Stew, came out in a hot, boiling bowl. It was a little spicy but fit perfectly with the flavor. The broth in itself could have been a little more favorable, but the vegetables/meat ratio was very good. We also ordered Mandoo and a Green Onion & Seafood pancake. My girlfriend and I had a terrific date night at Home Town. When we pulled just after 5, we were the only two in the restaurant. We received excellent service and were immediately brought our menus and water. I got the Spicy BBQ Pork and my girlfriend had the Short Rib & Cabbage Soup. My pork was the best I have had in Anchorage. Incredibly tender and bursting with flavor. My girlfriend said that her broth was very tasty, but the short rib proved to be a bit difficult to eat since it was served with the bone and in the soup. Nevertheless, when she did get to it, she said the beef was excellent! They also brought out 7 or 8 different side dishes for us to try alongside our entrees. Overall, a great experience! read more

Started off with the seafood pancake (haemul pajun). Nice crisp good flavor-could have used more seafood in it. Pork bulgogi (dwaeji bulgogi). Not my favorite marinade, was maybe a little sweeter than my taste buds prefer, but tender with a mild spice. Squid stirfry (ojinguh bokkum) really enjoy the flavoring. Good combo of peppers, onions, cabbage, and the pieces of squid were tender The standout was the budae jigae (army stew)! It filled the 4 of us easily. Best fried dumplings we've had... and we wanted to take home the sauce made for dipping them in! It wasn't as bitter and pungent as others. My wife said it was the freshest she has had since she lived in Korea. Fresh hot tea. I really enjoyed the food from Home Town Restaurant. I had kimchi dumplings and kalbi beef. It was a picture perfect dish and the flavors were very well defined. I love beef and probably eat too much meat, but it was the kimchi dumplings I couldn't stay away from. I think I ate half of them before I even tried the kalbi beef, but once I did I was very happy. The kalbi beef is delicious, but doesn't stand out as exceptional like the kimchi dumplings. ** Authentic Korean food in Anchorage that is open late hours. Decent selection of Korean food that is definitely enough to satisfy your cravings; only downside is a bit slow service. This was my first destination with my family after coming from the airport and thankfully this place is open late hours. My family of three ordered a few things including bulgogi, tofu soup / soondobo, and galbi tang. The bulgogi was exactly as expected, but what really stood out was the galbi tang. The broth was pretty flavorful yet not too salty and the short rib was very juicy and tender to top it off. The downside is that there is only one person serving so sometimes it's hard to get things like refills on sides and water. Thank goodness for Home Town restaurant! They're open late most days, which was a godsend when a friend and I needed a place for a late-night dinner. Most of our other options were fast food, wings/pizza, and bars, which wasn't what we wanted at all. Stumbled upon Home Town restaurant and I'm so glad we did. The service was fast, our main dishes were excellent, and the side dishes were tasty. I'm not super proficient in Korean cuisine but theirs was the first kimchi I really enjoyed! Win for me! If you have a 2 hour+ layover at the airport (and it is not the busy summer season) consider a 10 minute taxi/ride share to Home Town. It's in a less than attractive strip mall and the decor inside is not much to look at, but the family restaurant humbly produces very good Korean food for a fair price. I had bi bim bap, the great rice dish with the protein of your choice, greens, sprouts, carrots, and a fried egg, plus the spiciness of gochujang peppery sauce to mix in. I also had the mandoo (dumplings) steamed and they were also quite good and a healthy portion. I ate well for a reasonable price and, thanks to ride shares, easily made it back to the airport for my flight. read more

The spicy pork was super oily/greasy with little meat and a lot of kimchi which isn't usually added. I'm pretty sure the kimchi is store bought too. Dinners range from $25-30 per person and some things I'd wanna try but range from $40-60 and can't justify paying for. read more

The banchan (the little dishes they bring with the meal) were all so fresh and tasty - some of the best kimchee I've tasted. They also brought tea over right away which I love. There was some regret, as we bought waaaayyy too much food. All the food we ordered were as big as my head and filled me up! When I was done it looked like I barely made a dent in the ttoekbboki and ramen I ordered. The tteokbokki was spicy and hot. It was way spicier than I'm use to, but it wasn't bad. The kimchi pancake we got as an appetizer was good. It had a hint of kimchi flavor but it wasn't overly strong. I especially liked the crunch and texture. The place is small, but it can fit a lot of people. The pictures of the food in the menu helped with choosing what I wanted and what I'm going to choose for next time! Wow yelpers this place is legit and you get so much food for your money's worth. They have generous portions! This restaurant is small and quaint but don't let that fool you! There's alot of flavor in this small place. I ordered the Bulgogi and it was on point! The meat was tender, flavorful, and the food temperature was excellent. My friend ordered a soup and it literally arrived boiling! That is pretty impressive. I also tasted my friend's Bibimbop and the dumplings and I was very pleased with both. The best Korean food in Anchorage served by the Korean grandmother I never had! Seriously, this place is awesome! DO NOT be fooled by the humble exterior and interior. The food is legit, the portions ginormous, and the service warmer than a spicy hot toddy by raging Alaska bonfire. Speaking of toddys, Grandma gave me some tea as soon as I sat down, at no extra charge! I get stuff with a chili pepper icon next to it at Asian restaurants, so naturally I got the Spicy BBQ Pork. It was good and came with a massive amount of small, tasty, appetizer dishes (I have now learned that these are called 'bachan', thanks Yelpers!) I love this! Korean cuisine does "tapas" right. Oh what a nice surprise to discover this place around the corner. Went on a whim since there were no reviews on Yelp. Immediately I got the sense I had discovered some great secret... This place was PACKED with Koreans. I take that as a good sign. So my only qualm with our experience was the service, which was sufficient. One guy hosts and serves the whole place. As such, he doesn't have time to make suggestions or pay any attention to you whatsoever after he's delivered your meal. So if you want a beverage, condiments, silverware, etc you'd better get it at square one or you're screwed. You get only one round of banchan, which kinda sucks. But given the (by Anchorage standards) affordability, I wasn't surprised. The pickled seaweed was UHmazing btw! The food was admittedly amazing and affordable by Anchorage standards. The kalbi portion was just right and served sizzling at the going Anchorage price of 20 bucks. My bibimbap (stone hotpot) was also sizzlingly authentic and uber tasty. The crispy rice at the bottom was spot on. At 16 dollars it was on par with most other Korean places in town. So I really liked this place and I'll be back I'm sure. I'm torn between Hometown and Wonjo. Hometown is cheaper, but the service bites and you get one set of 9 banchan. Wonjo is more expensive, but you get unlimited 13 banchan and amazing service. While we did enjoy our meals, I got the spicy tofu soup with kimchi and he got the kalbi soup with noodles, we both felt the quality was not worth the price. We had the pork belly and beef soup. The pork belly came with Lettuce leaves, carrot and radish, mung bean, rice cake, cucumber, rice, 2 types of kimchi and a few other items. We also ordered the seafood pancake that came with an assortment of sauces. It was way bigger than we thought it'd be. The beef soup was huge and came in a piping hot pot. Again we had never done this before, but there was easily enough food for four adults for a grand total of 84$. Needless to say we were stuffed. Literally. We had to go walk around the mall after just to feel like we weren't going to bust anymore. When we walked in we were greeted and we kind of just sat where we wanted. It's a small quaint restaurant with a good amount of seating. The decor is very light and not overwhelming which is common in some restaurants here in town. It felt and looked very clean. Cooktop came out first. Then the pancake and sauces. Then she came and extended the table and turned on our cooktop. We all looked at each other wondering who would be brave enough to try their hand at cooking. Our server pointed at my husband and said you do the cooking. Lol. She was great! She gave us tips and told us how to do it. When she realized we had no clue what we were doing she just kept coming back to the table and moving things around while it was cooking and putting food on our plates. It was honestly like being at your grandmothers house and she just keeps serving you food you didn't ask for. Then she's say "yea you guys are doing good! Dip it in this one, it'll taste more better!" By the end of the meal there was still so much food on the table. She still gave us a pat on the back and sent us on our way with a box. This tiny hole in the wall does have really good Korean food but not too impressed with the bbq. Meat is frozen and not marinated. The spicy seafood soup tastes great but they use fake crab meat and tiny blue crab with a couple of pieces of octopus. Not worth the price. If you want seafood soup, Thai Siam has this seafood hotpot with a tons of real meat--shrimp, scallops, fish, squid/octopus. The gogis are delicious here and they have the best yakimandu in town. If you're craving for Korean food, don't come during peak hours because you will be waiting for a table and service might be slow. Order take out. read more

We were out to find a place to have a late lunch or rather early dinner. Craving something Asian, we stumbled upon the Home Town Restuarant. It was around 5:15 when we walked in and there were a few empty tables. I think the workers we're having lunch but they still stopped eating, came and welcomed us in and seated us. Real friendly folks. I ordered the spicy pork bbq and my wife ordered a spicy beef soup. Both were served with steamed rice and of course banchan. The banchan was just awesome-it had an interesting fish dish. It was small tiny fish that was pickled or something. It was amazing and actually was similar to a dish we have in south india. The portions were huge and the food was just awesome, yummy, delicious I can go on and on. I can't believe this small little place in an ordinary strip mall serves such awesome Korean food.
