we ordered pickup from home taste last week and were really impressed with how great the food is. we were really excited by a more traditional menu, since so many chinese restaurants feature the standard "american" chinese and this was very different while still being really approachable. they are known for their hand-pulled noodles, but we thought this would be easier to eat as a dine-in meal rather than takeout, so we opted to try the beef dry pot, lo mein, and orange chicken since we were eating at home. the food was ready exactly when they said it would be and was piping hot. it also smelled amazing. the beef dry pot was definitely my favorite. it was a little more expensive than the other 2 dishes but well worth it. we had ordered it spicy, and it really was but without overpowering the other flavor. the beef had great texture plus there was a huge variety of vegetables including seaweed, potato, and mushrooms. i was also impressed with the lo mein which was seasoned really well plus had a lot of shrimp, egg, and vegetables, not just being primarily noodle. we can't wait to go back to try the hot pots, pulled noodles, and the burgers. excellent new restaurant in the area! read more

I work in Arlington and my co-workers and I frequent take-out from Home Taste for lunch a couple times a month. The food is delicious! This is a great option if you are tired of the run-of-the-mill Chinese food. We usually order take-out so I can't speak for the dine-in service, but they always have our food ready within 15 minutes. I highly recommend the Beef Noodle Soup and the Beef Hand Pulled Noodles. My only critique would be that sometimes the dishes contain spices/herbs in large chunks. For example my co-worker found a large piece of ginger in her soup and I had several pieces of cilantro in my soup that still had the stems on them. Not a super big deal. Let's start this review by saying that we will be back to try Home Taste - Arlington again. Why? Because the restaurant holds great potential. It could be an excellent take out or casual dining option. That said, Home Taste - Arlington is not ready for the masses. My partner and I recently ordered take out - A lamb chinese hamburger, 8 fried dumplings, and noodles with chopped pork in fried bean sauce. We arrived before our order was ready. Each dish had its problems. The the flavor of the hamburger fillng was really, really good. Delicious. However, the filling was just warm, not hot, and the bun was stale - hard to bite through stale. "I can't finish that bread" stale. Next, the fried dumplings had clearly been made ahead of time. Maybe hours before our order and kept warm under a heat lamp or something. Our dumplings were not cooked to order. In our limited experience (we're not experts), fried dumplings should have a crispy outside, perhaps a bit of oil from the frying, and be HOT on the inside. These dumplings were not at all crispy and the filling, while very flavorful, was warm at best. The biggest problem was the wrapper. It was super gummy. Stick to your teeth doughy. Outside cooked, too thick dough (so, obviously handmade) not fully cooked. Finally, the noodle dish. We ordered it with hand-pulled noodles. Ours came with thin noodles. A simple fix for a new restaurant. But, once digging in, we failed to detect much, if any, bean sauce. The pork was flavorful. The cucumber crisp. For the portion size - and all dishes had generous portion sizes - there should have been more pork and cucumber. Even after thoroughly tossing the noodles, there were some servings without much meat or vegetable. The bottom line? Our experience of the Home Taste - Arlington dishes had much to be desired. HOWEVER, everything could be really, really great with some attention to detail. Like "I gotta have noodles-with-pork-in-bean-sauce right now" craving good. I love the hand pulled noodles here! I always get the noodles with bok choy, and as a vegetarian I appreciate that there is even a dish on the menu I can order. Very simple ingredients, and every time I go in there the food on the tables looks delicious. Sometimes they get a bit overwhelmed with takeout orders and waiting tables, as there is usually only one person working, so if you are doing takeout I would recommend ordering online. The service is a bit confusing/confused/unorganized sometimes, bringing the wrong dishes to the wrong tables and such, and once taking the wrong order. If you like home made noodles, this place is for you. It serves noodle soup with different meat and vegetables in spicy broth. Yum. The first time I ordered takeout online, I drove to pick up the food immediately. Ended up waiting for half an hour. Don't rush to pick up but wait for their text message. They'll tell you when you should be there. Because the noodles are hand made and home cooked, really one dish at a time, beware of long cooking time. Just delicious food, a great late lunch on Christmas Day. The four of us shared cumin lamb (with delicious homemade noodles), the chicken "casserole" (really more like a soup, with broth, delicious mushrooms, fish balls, noodles, etc.), Chinese cabbage, dumplings and the scallion pancake. Not a bad pick in the bunch, although the cabbage was somewhat less exciting than the rest. We have eaten at both the Watertown and at the Arlington locations. The Watertown restaurant has a larger menu but the food is good at both locations. We had lunch recently at the Arlington restaurant. My wife tried their spicy braised beef hand-pulled noodle soup and I had the house special fried rice. The flavor of the beef noodle was good and spice level is moderate, but the dish suffered from a lack of beef and too much noodles. The house special fried rice was well executed but bordered on being too salty (however, goodies like shrimp and meat were plentiful). Overall a nice lunch experience that can be made more enjoyable if they provided hot Chinese tea instead of cold water in a plastic tumbler. read more

Great option for noodle soups. They come with a choice of thin or thick noodles that are made in house. The broths are rich and full of flavor. I highly recommend their scallion pancake also. If I had to complain about anything it would be that their dumpling wrappers are too thick, but it is a personal preference. It is easy to see why this place is often full at dinner or lunch. Scallion pancakes and pork steamed dumplings are definitely recommended by me. Four of us went to this restaurant at 6 o'clock on a Sunday night. There were tables available, but nobody took the time to seat us. In fact they told us that the table that was clearly set for four was "almost ready", but didn't bring us to that table or allow us to sit there until we were standing there in front of it and the server for about 10 minutes. When we sat down, no menus were brought, although tables seated after us received both menus and glasses of water. We were effectively ignored for 25 minutes until we finally gave up and left. Meanwhile, the phone was ringing off the hook, with nobody answering it. Very frenetic place with only two women trying to manage the front of the house, including bringing food to tables, taking all calls for takeout orders, and attempting to juggle tables and seating to accommodate customers. It wasn't clear that we would have our order taken or that the food would actually come to us in a reasonable time.If these are growing pains, or the mark of a new staff, we would advise waiting intil this place gets its act together. Another point: the kitchen doors are blocked, but when they swung open while we were waiting for our table we could see trays of food cooked and sitting on the floor. With all the great reviews this place has had, we were really looking forward to it and wanted to like it. Given this experience we will not be back. read more
