The food is typical Chinese, but they have a large selection and it was some of the best Chinese I've had in awhile. The portions were large. They also have a good selection of combination plates - I.e. Sesame chicken with fried rice, egg roll and a side - such as boneless ribs or noodles. Absolutely amazing, delicious food, but the male delivery driver is absolutely insane, and because of this, we won't be ordering from here anymore. Every time we order, it's always one of us at a time, we order a 20$ plate and tip the delivery driver a few dollars on top of it (tipping is completely optional by the way- especially when someone isn't waiting a table), and every time we order (and tip!), the woman at the front desk is calling us back on our cell phone numbers that we give for delivery purposes (that should not be saved, ever, we are complete strangers and this is completely unprofessional), and begging us to "tip a bit more next time", because the delivery driver is angry that it's "not enough". The delivery driver is also extremely rude whenever he looks down, counts the money, and decides it's not enough. Our new roommate ordered from here for the first time a while back, and when the woman that took the order saw our address, she started begging my brand new roommate to "tip some more", so this man would stop complaining. She tipped a perfectly reasonable amount, and at 10 pm that night, two hours after she had gotten food, this delivery driver started calling her phone, 100% to complain about this tip, and I knew it was him, because it had happened to the rest of us before. We are a home full of women, and we no longer feel safe ordering from this place because of this man that clearly is battling with some sort of issue, that now also has our address. Was in the mood for some good old American Chinese food and was actually quite looking forward to it actually. Unfortunately the overall experiences had its up and downs. I wasn't quite expecting the near 2hour delivery time from when I ordered till when I got my food on a busy Friday evening. If I had know when I ordered on DoorDash that the restaurant themselves were responsible I think it's better to call to place order ahead of time. I did get an update when I called an hour after my order time and they were courteous enough to let me know. Their food is pretty decent but definitely not worth waiting so long for it lol However they had some redeeming qualities.. the food was still relatively warm and I really enjoyed the boneless pork ribs and chicken wings. The other are more meh but for the price it's not a bad choice if you're craving for this type of food. But definitely get in contact with the restaurant before you order online otherwise pick up would probably be the best. We ordered Vegetable Lo-mein, Tofu Vegetable Stir fry and scallion pancakes for pick up. Well the lady who was taking our order didn't wait for us to talk and hung up. But they got the order right. Vegetable Lo-Mein - ordered a large. not a lot of veggies, but it tasted good. I was disappointed when I saw a few bean sprouts and bell pepper. I was hoping to get more veggies. I have ordered from this place before and have faced same issue then too. Tofu stir fry - ordered a large, this was great - quantity, quality and taste, comes with a side of rice. I don't know why other reviewers hate on this place. For American Chinese it's good. If you're looking for home style or authentic Chinese look elsewhere. Number One Taste is clean (you can see the whole kitchen), the food is fresh, tastes good, and is reasonably priced. My kids who are tweens love the food. If you're missing Lucky Dragon in the Center on Medford Street I recommend trying Number One Taste. I like the dumplings, and the scallion pancakes are extra crispy and plentiful. read more

First, the Hot and Sour Soup: it was neither hot nor sour, completely bland. We tossed the rest. It did contain the expected ingredients, but had no taste. I love their beef teriyaki. It is sweet and savory tender and wonderful. Their egg rolls are wonderful.the whole menu is good. I usually do take out as Hubby will pick up and pay so I don't know about the atmosphere. I can't complain about the service since I don't eat there but the food is always fresh and ready. A friendly staff who are clear and concise when ordering. The take out house is clean. Fair prices. For a quick grab I'd say give it a try. I feel that the food I had was good but for each thing there was something missing their mark that I'm sure could be tweaked. Hot and Sour Soup - Flavor, ingredients, amount of heat - perfect. However with soup be careful to re-examine what makes it gelatinous? In restaurants it's normal to have batches of soup that will sit out covered, which is totally fine, but soups can be adjusted to avoid that texture. Spring & Egg Rolls - Perfect amount of crisp, while maintaining a balance in being flakey, fresh, and not soggy or dry. However I was disappointed to see very little inside the spring rolls, but the egg rolls were fine. Crab Rangoon - I like the fold style they utilize for the shape, but there was a stale taste to the filling. It has kind of an unpleasant aftertaste resembling a cooking wine perhaps, and maybe this could be someone's acquired taste...simply put it didn't seem too fresh, I hope they can try different methods. Chicken Fingers - Golden and Crispy to a T. Definitely liked these. Get these on the go and I doubt you'll be disappointed. Kung Pao Shrimp - Far too watery, I wish there was more variety of vegetables - could use more red peppers, chili's, nuts, and could be cut more evenly. The shrimp are tiny and did not taste fresh. Bland taste not to be desired to finish. The sauce was mostly just water. Reduction makes a difference. I would love more hearty and fresh flavors. Fried Rice - Perhaps using some more egg whites, sprouts, peas and carrots could bring more flavor to round it out, but it tasted fine. I'm glad for a take out house, they do seem above par. Easy ordering process using the BeyondMenu app but mediocre food in my opinion. Got the Shrimp Moo Shu and it was made with the mini, almost colorless shrimp that usually come frozen. The veggie dumplings also appeared to be bought frozen and steamed rather than made from scratch at the restaurant -- artificial green color wrapper. This is the second time in a row we have been disappointed.The house fried rice was flavorless, the beef and broccoli was so overcooked that the broccoli was like mush or was the broccoli old and soft to begin with. The boneless ribs were ok but could have been cooked a little more and lacked the glaze that gives them flavor, the Lo Mein, pork egg foo young, and scallion pancakes were better although the pancakes were very hard from what I was told. I have tried this place a couple of times and ordered a few different dishes in hopes I would find something they do well - no luck. Both times I threw most of it out. Bland egg rolls with no pork. Tried this on Grubhub for the first time and choose this location because we want to support local Arlington business whenever we can. They definitely paid attention to notes about low oil and no msg ... that's enough reason to reorder for us. The chicken and string beans entree is very tender. The lunch specials are good. General Gau (Tso) chicken is good. Kunpow is standard too, except they put chicken instead of beef as ordered. Called. They offered to remake it without fuss. Appreciate the service. Added extra tip. Crab Rangoon is great- crispy and not greasy or soggy. Orange chicken is good. Nice meaty chicken bits and a good tangy sauce. Boneless spareribs tasty and not overly fatty/grisly. Chicken fingers had just the right amount of breading and were fried to a nice crisp. Peking dumplings are good and well filled. Ok, now onto the reasons for the 3 stars. Overall service is ok. Ordering over the phone is hit or miss. I think they only have one phone line as often I get a 'Welcome to Verizon, your call cannot be completed as the callers line is busy.' Ordering online is through Beyond Menu. No fees for pickup orders but lots of fees for delivery. But again with hit or miss order over the phone what options are there? Also, no option to pay in cash when order online. And finally the recent experience that brought this review to life. New Years Eve. The Black Friday of the Chinese food industry. The one day of the year where practically every resident in the United States orders feasts to celebrate. You would think a Chinese food restaurant would prepare for the onslaught of orders. In this case the answer would be a resounding NO! 1) order over the phone- remember what was said above about that? Yeah no joy after 2 hours of trying. So to the online order it is. 2) Honestly gave them adequate time. Arrived about 50 minutes after placing online order to pickup food. Was told going to be another 20-30 minutes because it was 'a large order.' Is there a small order on NYE?? 3) waited in the car for another 30 minutes. Went back in and was told they were still working on the order. Really?? Going on an hour and half now. How is this possible? Finally after another 20 minute wait (1 hour 50 minutes from time of order) left with food. Also while waiting chatted with a few customers who had ordered earlier in the day to pickup their orders for dinner. Apparently that didn't help as they were also waiting for about 45-50 minutes. So in surmise- good food. Definitely try them for delicious food. Just beware of NYE (or any other major Chinese food time) Next year well order somewhere else for NYE. read more

I ordered some apps--crab Rangoon and scallion pancakes--and two dishes--cashew chicken and sesame chicken-- a few nights ago. Fresh, the food was disappointing. It was dry and bland, and we did not eat much of it. When I tried reheating the leftover rice and the sesame chicken, it was even worse. Lots of food for the price and the combo came with a Soda Kung Pao Chicken - pretty bland with no spiciness at all. I was skeptical at first being that they are in a location where there was a decades old Chinese takeout restaurant with mediocre food. This place is a great addition to East Arlington. Every time I've gotten take out the food was very well prepared, the portion above what one would expect, and fair prices. Their Hot and Sour soup is the best I've had in a long time and has just the right balance and viscosity. Their Moo-Shu chicken was excellent with lots of chicken and wonderfully prepared vegetables.
