We were looking for in-home respite care services for my mom & were referred to Home Instead & another company by "A Place for Mom". I spoke to Taylor Lee from Home Instead first & she was SO helpful & friendly, even suggesting some helpful questions I may want to ask from other providers. I decided not to bother looking any further & did not regret my decision! Taylor & all the care professionals who helped my mom were wonderful & I didn't have to worry at all! We have been using the good people of Home Instead Windward for home care and support services for nearly four months now, and we are very happy and satisfied with the quality of service & support provided. In my opinion, the company, Home Instead Windward, is a quality service organization with a high level of competence and dedication to personal home care services in Windward Oahu. We have had a Home Instead Windward person, Ariana, come to our home weekly and provide certain services, such as food preparation, personal care for my wife (diagnosed with mild dementia), and light house work. Ariana is a social person, and is a calming influence with my wife, and she shows a clear capability for positive social interaction. Home Instead Senior Care has been a God send for our family. Patti has been so amazing and such a tremendous blessing. I can tell that she truly cares about my father, she's not just simply doing a job - I feel like she's treating my father like her own family. She takes him to pick up lunch, for walks, she purchased house slippers for him because she noticed his had holes in them, and she's started taking him to his doctor's appointments when she can and that has helped us SO much! In the very beginning, my father, who has dementia, was very against having someone come into his house and he kept telling us we were "wasting our money". But, now I can tell that he trusts her and even looks forward to when he knows she's coming. I cannot say enough good things about this company, and Butch and Kyle who manage it. It all started out this past Christmas when we had major issues with Attention Plus (AP) not providing the services we expected, contracted, or paid for in the care of my great aunt, who suffers from Lewy Bodies dementia and requires 24/7 caregivers. Butch was able to staff us with caregivers in the week prior to Christmas, within three days of initially contacting his company and requesting services. My initial intake phone call with Kyle was amazing. She listened to all my concerns regarding AP, and was just as appalled and shocked with the care we had been getting as we were. She put the wheels in motion, and got us set up to meet with Butch and to do an assessment asap. Our family was personally covering care while this transition was taking place, so having Butch be able to staff on less than a weeks notice was amazing. We have now had them providing services to us since Dec 17/ Jan 18, and have secured an excellent team of regulars, who we are completely at ease leaving my aunt with. We know they do a great job because we continually keep the communication lines open, give and get feedback for any issues or questions that arise, and keep tabs via camera and notes to the caregivers. With my sister taking the M-F/9-6 shift, she is also able to provide training specific to my aunt for any new caregivers, as well as help them learn my aunt's routine, needs, transfer procedures, etc. Butch also indicated that they have a lot of expertise in dementia specific services, so if you need that type of care, I think you would be very happy with their services. On a caregiver specific note, they have an excellent procedural notebook that each caregiver fills out, reads, and takes notes in to keep abreast of what is going on with my aunt. There is an online checklist program that they fill out each shift, and we can monitor schedules, leave to-do lists, or communicate via that online forum. It works pretty well, with my only complaint being that it won't send photos or videos if I want to share them with Butch or Kyle. The other thing I like is that if someone calls in sick or is unavailable for a shift, that Butch and Kyle personally come in and take that shift. This also keeps them familiarized with their client's needs and level of care, which helps them be better at their jobs, as well as better able to staff the perfectly matched caregiver. All in all, I would give this company a 5 of 5 stars. They are a HUGE improvement from Attention Plus, who I wouldn't trust to keep a potato safe. Please keep them in mind if you are looking for caregiving services!!! It is worth every penny to have that peace of mind. read more

I was very reluctant to try a senior care program for my mother as I wasn't sure how comfortable she would be or how I would feel having to have someone else care for her. Home instead Kailua exceeded my expectations and made the process of transitioning the care Of my mother by myself to someone else seamless. Every interaction I had with all the people I've encountered at Homestead was compassionate and professional. The initial greeting from Alex instilled confidence in those that will be be providing the care. Nizzq the supervisor of the caregivers explained exactly what was going to happen and took the time to alleviate any fears i may have had. We had wonderful care from all of the caregivers assigned to my mom however I would like to make a special note about Ariana and Ashlee who managed to get my mom to do more for herself and inquired with me about household chores that they could do. After two disappointing experiences with "private" (read: "work for cash, under the table") in-home caregivers, we decided to utilize the services of a professional organization. Although Home Instead is relatively new to the Islands, I could not be happier with the service provided by Butch, Kyle and the caregiving staff (particularly Kanoe, our caregiver). Going through a bonded, licensed organization is more expensive, and absolutely worth the additional cost in professionalism, expectations, responsiveness and peace of mind for the family. These are not insignificant concerns when looking for in-home care. From the moment Butch took my first call of enquiry, he was very proactive and genuinely concerned with our family's needs. Kyle is much more than an office manager; she is liaison and family support person extraordinaire. And I think my mom and dad would like to adopt Kanoe, our primary caregiver, because they have been so pleased with her services. These are the issues my family experienced when using "private" care, and issues I no longer have to worry about now that we use Home Instead: 1. A caregiver quitting or no-showing without notice 2. Miscommunication about expectations of the care provided, leading to family frustration 3. A caregiver taking things from the home without permission 4. Lack of professionalism from caregiver 5. Personality conflicts 6. Inflexibility of schedule To be sure, there are other organizations out there, and rates for level of care are similar across the board. We called and interviewed a lot of them. We settled with Home Instead because we felt like Home Instead truly cared and were doing everything possible to meet our needs and requirements. It is stressful, difficult and emotionally draining to shop for and find decent in-home caregivers. Do yourself a favor and eliminate a little of that stress by placing your trust and your family's needs in the hands of Home Instead Senior Care. Kyle and Home Instead were literally life savers. My Dad was in hospital in Hawaii with no relatives in the area and was released with heart problems on Christmas Eve. I too had a disappointing experience with another caregiving company. When I met Butch at the Senior Fair, I could tell right away that he was someone that I could easily work with. He came to my house within the week and we got started right away with care for my 90 year old mom. The cost is higher than the other agency but I saw right away that it was worth it; there are many more services at "Home Instead" than with the other agency. I love the website; you have your own sign-in and can leave messages about your loved one's care. Kyle, in the office, gets right back to you and takes care of anything you need. There is no need to call in to the office, this system works very well. Other bonuses I did not have with the other agency are that the time can be set and there will always be someone there at that set time. I also love the caregiver's notes that I get each time telling me what happened between my mom and the caregiver. I can follow up on the website with any note that I do not understand. Butch asked my mom several questions in her interview and found someone that is perfect for her. My mom doesn't like many people but she loves Brooklyn! She looks forward to her coming and does not mind receiving the care she needs that I can not provide for her. read more
