I got the Shanghai chicken to go. The dish was actually really good and they get it out pretty fast. You also get a small discount if you pay in cash. However there was clumps of hair on multiple chicken pieces. I tried to pick it off but there was just too much and it was too sticky. Passing through Chino Hills on a road trip and decided to come here for dinner. This is an odd Sichuan and Shanghainese fusion restaurant. I am more of a Shanghainese food aficionado and their Shanghainese offerings are few and disappointing -- stewed pork belly and eggs were way too fatty to the level of unhealthy, beef noodle soup had good broth and noodle but the beef was way too tough and rubbery. However, their steamed cod was a winner - super yummy sauce and tender flakey fish... but then I could easily make this dish at home. Great place for some soup and stir fried noodles! This establishment replaced the old JJ Noodle, and quality is the same as before. Perhaps, they kept the old chef from before? My friends and I ordered the beef noodle soup, beef chow mein, spicy seafood chow mein, Taiwan Style chow mein, cucumber salad, and the Hot & Sour soup. For the chow mein, we ordered knife cut style (刀削麵). While, the beef noodles were ordered with regular noodles. Almost everything was delicious. The only thing that could be improved on is their Hot & Sour soup, which was far too sour to our liking. But, besides that service was amazing and the noodle dishes is satisfying! THEY MOVED! I was so distraught and thought they closed when we saw Marugame Udon move into their old spot. They're now across the parking lot, next to Peyton Dr. instead. The interior is brand new and very clean, and the food is, as always, so incredibly yummy! They serve the most authentic Chinese food in the area. The kidney was cleaned properly and didn't yield any strange scent; it was very tasty and not super greasy either. The dishi s going to taste more like homecooking like its name, so don't expect exquisite flavors. The service was prompt and friendly for a Chinese restaurant. I picked up food here on the way home and was pleasantly surprised. The food was quality and the flavors were legit good. Positives were being able to choose level of spiciness which is great. Mild for me still had a good kick. The shrimp was perfectly cooked. Not dry or tough. The fried pork chops were crispy, not overcooked, not dry inside with a flavorful batter. The green beans still had some crunch to it and the sauce coated the beans well. All that with the mixed fried rice topped off to a great meal. Portions are perfect size and you get a good amount of food. They def have the wok hay that is characteristic of good Chinese food. Will def go back again to try other dishes. read more

Home Cooking is the best Chinese food in the Chino Hills area (since forever). The first I visited Home Cooking was 13+ years ago. It was the best and (probably) the only authentic Chinese food restaurant in Chino Hills then. There are more authentic Chinese/Cantonese/Taiwanese food restaurants opened in the area today, but Home Cooking is still the best, especially when it comes to vegetarian options. The service was excellent. It's so nice of them to offer us warm/hot water on cold days. The food was not the best in SoCal but it's one of the best in the I.E. area for sure. They don't have tons of vegetarian dishes. But it's enough for a meal for a party of 4. We had: - cucumber salad 拍黄瓜: They were able to not add sugar to this dish for us. This was not the northern Chinese-style cucumber salad which was spicy, but it was super delicious. The cucumber was fresh and crunchy. This was our favorite dish in our meal. - black mushroom with gluten 香菇面筋煲 I liked this dish a lot. This was a high-protein vegetarian dish. What's not to like? This dish will be perfect if it's more flavorful. - scallion noodle 葱油拌面 The noodles were too thick for my taste. I would like the dish more if they put more scallions with a different noodle type. - Cauliflower Griddle 干锅花菜 (vegetarian) We were so happy this was a vegetarian dish. It's not spicy enough for our taste. But this is ok since this is not a Hunan or Sichuan style Chinese food so we didn't expect spicy Chinese food here. They used to have really good, non spicy beef noodle at the original location. Now it's just flavorless sliced beef. Tonight we tried the house noodle soup which is supposed to have sausage, along with fish and shrimp. It was skimpy and flavor was mid at best. read more

Passed through today by accident and ended up ordering two appetizers (cucumber salad and wontons in red chili oil). I was very satisfied with my simple, but delicious to-go order! The cucumber salad was light, savory, and crunchy. Though you can't see it in the photo, the wontons were the perfect amount and had a flavorful garlic chili oil. If you're afraid of the spice level, don't be intimidated as it was enjoyable and more flavorful than it being spicy at all. The garnish was a nice mix of fresh cilantro and green onion. The service was incredibly polite and quick. They have an order ahead option that might be great if you're ordering a full dinner, but for a brief walk in for 2 appetizers, I was in and out in 10 minutes. I was craving some Chinese food and I guess since it's the first day of March I wanted to try out this Home Cooking restaurant near my place which is located in Chino Hills. During dinner time I noticed how busy this place was and also how well the food tasted. It does taste like home cooking! The dishes that I had ordered was frog (don't knock it until you try it) which is made with chili spices, bean sprouts, celery, mushrooms, and even had lotus which I rarely see! It tasted yummy and if you haven't had frog it reminds me something of a similar taste to chicken. We also ordered lamb, which is also cooked with chili but to me, it isn't as spicy as some places so if you are new to Chinese dishes maybe go with this one! Either way, it really tasted like fresh vegetables were used in the dish and almost like a home-cooked meal. If both the lamb and frog isn't your style don't worry they even have this tasty deep-fried orange chicken! Not too sweet and it isn't at all spicy! Great for kids or if you just want something simple! The next dish was steamed egg, stir-fried vegetables and a steamed cod, and a seafood soup (got to always order a soup for Chinese dinners). All of the dishes are what I would consider a very traditional Chinese meal. It's filled with flavor but not overwhelming. Plenty of vegetables which I'm a fan of and enjoy. Food Reviews: - The sweet and sour spare ribs is super dry and the sauce is so thick. - The noodle with chicken is so salty and they put too much white pepper. I literally could taste the white pepper. - Crispy tofu is alright, the sauce, again, is too salty. - Homemade Dumpling is ok. Nothing spectacular. Service Reviews: - They don't prepare you with proper utensils. When the dumpling came, they didn't even give us the sauce. We had to ask and they only gave us one sauce dish. We had party of 4. Have eaten here a handful of times and so far it's consistently good and never a bad choice. We ordered the spicy crispy chicken and the spicy boiled three flavor. The chicken's spice blend is so flavorful and balanced, and the boiled pot is delicious. Mild wasn't quite spicy or numby enough for us, but medium was spot on -- might try spicier next time just to compare. The owners are also very friendly and helpful with menu. The food here is really great and offers quite the variety. My favorite here are the Yipin Red-braised Pork / Peppery Chicken. These dishes are great in their own way. The braised pork is rich and full of flavor. The peppery chicken is spicy and packed w flavor from the Sichuan chilies. This place used to be a really good choice for Chinese dishes here in Chino Hills, until it was sold to a new owner. Although the name and the dishes offerings remained the same; but the tastes have changed, most dishes were too sweet, even for a Shanghainese place. You will probably have to go to Wuxi 无锡 in China to find sweeter dishes. The quality of the beef itself was very low and no amount of sugar can mask that. On the other hand, the quantity was good and the prices were reasonable compared to other Chinese eateries in Chino Hills. It's sad that two of the better restaurants in town (both in the 99 Ranch Market Plaza with the other one being Tasty House) have gone through ownership changes and the quality went down on a steep hill. read more

This is one of my husband and my favorite restaurants in the area. We always come here when we crave Chinese food. If you're looking for a quick bite, you can't go wrong by picking Home Cooking. I'm actually surprised that the rating aren't higher. I chalk it up to the fact that the main clientele are old school Chinese folk who don't use Yelp. This restaurant is located in the 99 ranch plaza so parking is plentiful. The staff here are always working efficiently since they get busy during the lunch and dinner rush. They have a decent number of booths and tables so we often come here with my sister and her husband. I've tried most of the menu at this point but below are some of my recommendations if you need help deciding what to get: - Fried Tofu : these r a must have every time I come here. The outside is crispy but the inside is buttery soft. The dish is served with a savory sauce that gets soaked up by the tofu slices. - Cumin Lamb: if u love spice and flavor, do not pass this dish up. The meat serving size is very generous and the spices r delicious. This dish tastes super authentic so if you've never tried it, I highly recommend it. - Beef Roll: even if I'm ordering a ton of mains, I still have to get the beef roll. It's a classic that reminds me of home. - Fried fish and tofu: this is also super good! The fish is flakey and the sauce that is served with it is out of this world! Don't hesitate to come here. The food is authentic, delicious and affordable! Tip: I've noticed that tons of ppl order pick up from this restaurant. They always have pick up orders even through the pandemic.
