First off this place is in a weird plaza with absolutely no other Asian food around. You would definitely not be faulted for thinking it is some sort of Americanized Chinese food. Yet the menu is a small but authentic set of items, mostly Shanghai style. The good: the food was mostly excellent. The 生煎包 (panfried pork buns) was one of the best I've had in the U.S. , 荠菜肉丝炒年糕 (rice cake with shepherds purse and shredded pork) was a really nice texture and flavor, and braised eel 鳝鱼 what is a rarely found dish in the US and quite tasty. The bad: prices were high but this would be ok if it weren't for... The ugly: the service is literally the worst I've ever experienced at a restaurant. When we first sat down, we were one of only three tables so service was swift and reasonable, but pretty quickly the restaurant filled up and we stopped getting our food. In fact, we never got two out of the three items we originally ordered. It also took multiple tries to get more pan fried pork buns, and when they eventually came 45 mins later, they were soggy and not nearly as good as the first batch. We also never got water refills and the three guests who came later just never got water. Finally, I pointed out a hair in one of the dishes, and they never even offered any compensation. The waiters kept forgetting in general. If I'm craving this stuff, I might come during a less busy time. Sadly, the bar for that might be a little high due to this poor experience. read more

Great spot with solid flavors across the board. The pan-fried dumplings are a must--crispy on the bottom and juicy inside. The curry beef pot stickers really stand out, packed with rich curry flavor and perfectly seasoned. Highly recommend the chicken and crab roe served over rice or noodles--the crab roe adds an extra layer of umami that makes the dish feel indulgent without being heavy. The restaurant offers buns and Shanghai style cuisines and it is popular with locals. It is a modern Chinese restaurant. We order crab XLB (juicy, soup inside, sweet, and yummy), pan fried crab & pork bun (juicy, soup, sweet, and tasty), deep fried salt & pepper pork tastes like pop corn chicken! And Shanghai shredded pork fried thick noodles is savory, sweet, and not too salty. Came in a little before their lunch hours were ending, so felt a little bad asking if it was too late to sit down, but the waitress (maybe owner?) was very warm and welcoming and invited me to sit down anyway. I saw the reviews before coming in and saw a couples dishes I was craving, so I ordered the braised pork w/eggs and green onion noodles. Restaurant was nice, quiet (since it was just a handful of stragglers and other people late for the lunch hours), clean, and typical decor of a Chinese restaurant. Wait wasn't too long, but could've been a bit faster. Though the pork was good, I think they left the sauce on the heat for way too long maybe? I know because I cooked this dish at home myself before, and I could tell that they reduced it for far far far too long and the sauce was right on the edge of burnt, and was thick/molasses like, and a bit bitter when it should have been sweet/umami. Like the sauce was dark almost black instead of more red. But! I will give it to them, it was pretty tasty especially when mixed with rice so I guess I couldn't complain too much! If you're looking for tasty Shanghainese cuisine in the Chino area this one of the few options. It's located in a very random strip mall in the corner near Turner's Sporting Goods. So there is plenty of parking in the huge lot. The restaurant itself is a large size but for some reason they decided to close half of it. Likely from staff shortages, at least when we came here for lunch over the weekend. They do speak english for the non-mandarin speakers but it absolutely helps if you do speak native or bring your friend to help order. The menu is very classic Shanghai foods with popular XLB items and stir fry and large table dishes. If you don't know Shanghainese foods are sweeter in profile. Note the service here is not great as with many HK/Shanghai restaurants but it's almost expected you need to be aggressive to get any service. We got the pan fried pork baos. These were super delicious and one of the best in the SGV area for sure. The bottom is perfectly crispy without being burnt, and it's filled with super HOT juice so be careful with your first bite or the the juice WILL spray out and potentially burn yourself. The safe way is to bite a small hole and drain some of the juice into the soup spoon they gave you. Don't say you didn't get warned or sue them for burning your own mouth lol. The meat filling is well seasoned and pairs well with the black vinegar. The cold Shanghai style shredded chicken with house special chili sauce is a very classic side dish. The paired chili sauce is delicious with the good amount of sweet and savoriness of the soy. You do have the option of a spicy vs non spicy version. The boiled chicken is served ice cold and super tender. Yes the meat itself is only very lightly seasoned so you must use the dipping sauce. Yes you can pour the entire sauce onto the dish if you so desire too. The final dish we got was Kung Pao Chicken as a measurement of the chef. This version was very heavy on the diced white onion but very tasty. They do skimp abit on the chicken vs the veggie ratio. So overall the dish itself looks abit unbalanced since all you see is bell pepper/onions. Like where's the chicken? The sauce is tasty but just ok. They did finish it with a classic splash of black vinegar as you can taste it but just enough sweetness/soy. Overall a good place for a variety of Shanghai style foods or just to come for your XLB, pan fried baos. We will be back again to try other items. read more

Found this place on yelp after discovering Happy Together was closed for renovations. The place was maybe half full when we came in. We were a larger party, but the two workers in front immediately told us to basically go away as they were too busy to serve us. I've honestly never had that happen at a restaurant before. They're understaffed since Covid, and still is, half of the lobby is closed still. If you come at lunch or dinner time, be prepared no one will greet you or take you in for 15+ minutes when no line there. Racist restaurant: Do not go if you have brown skin. My wife and went here after seeing good reviews online, on our first visit we barely walked in the door and were told they're closing. Odd as we were there at prime lunch hour, but thought they may keep odd hours. On our second attempt, we walked in and waited a few minutes by the door before an employee came up to us. I asked for a table for 2, he gave me a very condescending look and said none available, my wife asked when one would be available and he said he doesn't know?! Fact: there were 2 tables free, one had to be cleaned after a recent diner. The other side of the restaurant had tables stacked with supplies. As we're walking out, another party with at least 5 asian people walked in and the same employee was all smiles and started pointing to the big table that needed to be cleaned. I am sure they did not have a reservation to remove any doubts. Pity that such a place exists in Chino, where there is a broad demographic of people. I ordered the Pork XLB, glass noodles, shrimp noodles, and the pork wontons. Most dishes are packed with peppercorns and it is SPICY. Service was great and the staff is hard at work! When we mentioned to the server that the dumplings tasted a bit too salty, they seemed offended and replied, "You're the first person to say our xiaolongbao is salty."
