This was my first time trying Holy Burger and unfortunately, the overall experience didn't impress me at all. I stopped in for takeout during lunch after running errands and the place was completely empty and appeared clean. However, both employees were in the back doing what I assume was side work. As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry, I completely understand that side work needs to get done, but customers should still be prioritized or at the very least welcomed when they walk in and say they'll be right with you. It took a few minutes before anyone came up to help me and both employees seemed visibly unhappy to be there. I ordered the Double Smash burger combo. The burger itself was very dry and lacked much flavor. The fries were at least fresh and crispy, they were honestly the only part of the meal I somewhat enjoyed. I also found the 7.5 oz canned soda to be disappointing compared with what's typically offered at other burger spots. For nearly $20, there are plenty of better burger options in the LES. Food-wise, this would probably be a mediocre 3-star experience for me, but the lack of hospitality is what ultimately keeps me from wanting to come back. Pickles and peppers on the side were nice after we asked. The chicken was super tender and juicy while still maintaining crisp, almost burnt spice breading. Not too salty. Very different than any other chicken I've had. Pleasantly surprised with the taste but disapointed with the smaller than expected size. Also less than expected number of tenders. The sliders were decent and at $16 for 6, it's a solid deal! Out of the 2, I preferred the chicken (was quite juicy and had a bit of spice). We got the small fry which ended up being a larger portion than we anticipated (never a bad thing when it comes to fries). They have an interesting seasoning on them where they were slightly sweet. Very different from other spots, a pleasant surprise for me but may not be for everyone. We also got the onion rings which had a bit too much breading. The sauce that came with it was good (ended up dipping my fries in there too). We didn't get a milkshake, but saw a few others inside with milkshakes and they looked really good. Attn: VEGANS! The food was delicious and the staff was nice, but we had a mixup with vegan/non vegan opptions. As someone with a dairy intolerance, I was so excited to order a vegan milkshake. When I ordered it, the cashier asked me to pick a flavor from the freezer, but there was no vegan options. I assumed there was a second freezer elsewhere, so I ordered a chocolate shake. I then watched him grab the non vegan ice cream. I asked him to clarify, and he said that was what they used to make the vegan shakes. I explained it wasn't vegan, and he insisted it was, and then showed me that they used oat milk with the ice cream. Alarmed, I asked to read the ingredients list on the pint to be sure, and the ice cream was definitely not vegan- something he also seemed surprised to learn. He gave me a refund no problem, but it had me thinking about how many other people may have received a non vegan shake without realizing it. This is a service issue at the location on 1460 Fulton St. in Brooklyn. My 12 year old son and I are repeat customers and we like the food.
