Do not go here for bbq. Not worth it, definitely better bbq around. They gave terrible service, management is a joke and shouldn't be in the business, they do not accommodate their customers and are very rude and offensive. We left immediately after spending $55 only to be verbally insulted when asked for a replacement of a side item that was under par. They also had very inappropriate shows (child violence and gore) on one of their tvs that was very disturbing. All around this was a terrible experience, possibly the worst we have ever had. Holt Bros BBQ has about three locations in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina and the barbecue is quite consistent between all of them. They are all casual restaurants where you order at the counter, take a seat a wait a couple of minutes for your meal to be brought to the table. They do have outside seating available at all of their locations in addition to their indoor tables. The barbecue itself is quiet good. In South Carolina if you ask for "barbecue" it means pulled pork and Holt Bros does it right. Not chopped pork. Granted there are places in both Carolinas, mostly North Carolina, that chop their pork. Well, they are wrong. That just creates a tasteless mess. The correct way is tender, smoky, strips of juicy pork on either a plate with some sides or piled high on a bun or bread with some slaw. Holts does it the right way. They also offer a wide variety of BBQ sauce based on your taste. In the eastern areas of South Carolina, spicy vinegar based sauce is kept no but they also offer sweet ketchup based sauce and mustard based or gold sauce. All are good. Oddly enough, when I came here with one of my vendors, I had already eaten a lunch that my wife was kind enough to pack for me that morning so I only ordered a few wings but wow were they good. Holt Bros smokes their wings and gives you a side of Bama White Sauce (Roll Tide). Absolutely delicious. You definitely can't go wrong picking this place if you're looking for a good place for some barbecue while you are in the Darlington area. read more

While passing through Darlington today decided to stop at Holt Bros BBQ. Decided on a 5 rib plate with fried Okra and hushpuppies. The ribs were some of the best I have ever eaten. The Okra was cooked to perfection and the hushpuppies were also very good.I am surprised at some of the reviews but what I got today will lead me back here again in the future. read more

What an experience.. I usually don't rant but I have to share this with you guys. I ordered pickup from Holts BBQ and they got two of the burgers wrong on my order. We picked up around 8:30pm and when we got we home we noticed that both burgers were not what we ordered. So I call and I speak to someone and they tell me there is nothing they can do because it just hit closing time. She recommended that I bring the burgers back tomorrow to see what the manager could offer. I asked to receive a call back from the manager/owner and they haven't made contact. As a small business.. this is shameful. Truly. Not to mention the food we received was old... sat out and thrown together. Purchased a Pulled Pork Plate, mac & cheese, hushpuppies, slaw and bun yesterday 06/01/23. The pulled pork was tough, could not eat, mac & cheese was not good at all and at the bottom had hard pieces of something in it. The hushpuppies were not done inside, could not eat. I worked a double yesterday in NC and was unable to call about the disappointment until now, literally 10 minutes ago, today 06/02/23. I called the lady told me she spoke with the owner and he stated that he was gone for a while yesterday and had another person working and that might be why the quality was off but still with giving the knowledge she told me the owner stated they have a policy that they do not do exchanges or refunds, once it leave the store that's on me. How you going to not give me any of my money back and you sold me Raw food???!!! I explained to her no one is going to cut open hushpuppies to make sure they are done or stand in the restaurant and taste test the food before they leave. I am very disappointed with the lack of business orientation and concern for the customer (ME) after I chose their location to spend my hardworking money by which was not pennies- my bill was $17.58. I will never eat her again and will tell all my fellow associates that work locally in the area to not support this location/business. read more
